      Do not be discouraged. It is not true that a good craftsman needs a lot of years to master the craft. The secret is inspiration and common sense. Edgar, one of my youtube students, became an excellent leather trimmer in less than 4 years. He is an example of perseverance.

    Oh my gosh Cesar!! What an awesome tip with setting the under material onto the bolstered area before gluing down the top material! It really helped with taking on the shape!! Absolutely beautiful seams and stitches. As always. Thank you for such a helpful lesson. It made a world of difference with the final sewn material pattern shape not fighting against the bolster shape. BRILLIANT AS ALWAYS!! ❤ hugs and kisses to the whole family.

      Thanks so much again for such a kind comment!
      Interesting commentary. In fact, for concave areas the foam and vinyl should be over the foam base to take the same shape. Otherwise, a frustration of wrinkles would appear. The same procedure should be done if no foam is added. Regularly this technique could be applied on boat seats or some sports seats.

      The ideal sewing machine (old or new) to sew leather is a triple transport (walking foot) one. Well known trademarks are Juki, Consew, Pfaff, Adler, Brother, Singer, etc. th-cam.com/video/U3HBXBDDKoo/w-d-xo.html

      I am located in Mexico.
      The machine I show is a Pfaff 1245-706. It can be a different trademark: Juki, Consew, Adler, Brother, etc. To do upholstery you need a triple transport sewing machine.

    What is the general purpose of adding the foam padded material underneath the vinyl? Also, for stitching the edges of the pieces prior to sewing them together? Thank you

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Some cars come upholstered this way. It helps to erase irregularities adding a kind of 'body' to the surface. It behaves like a 'lining' those expensive pants have.
      The first sewing is done at a distance of 8 mm. The final sewing is done at a distance of 10 mm. The first sewing helps to flatten the edge making the final sewing easier.
      In some upholstery shops an overlock sewing machine is used to flatten the edges instead.

    • @petermacey5953
      @petermacey5953 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you so much for the reply. I understand the foam helps to pad or disguise the seam underneath and how the initial stitching can help align and flatten the seam. Thank you for all your videos, they are very informative

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I use a glue sprayer (3M American trademark) I bought at Homedepot store, here in Mexico. I only used it for the video. Not really good. It is too sticky and does not glue well. Hopefully, you have good sprayable glues in the place where you are located.
      For a real job I'd better use a sprayable glue to be applied with a glue spraying gun.
      Landau glue is one of the best sprayable glues in the USA:
      www.dap.com/products-projects/product-categories/adhesives/contact-cement/landau-top-trim/
      In Mexico, we have the 5000 sprayable glue, Peavoch, etc.

      @@Cechaflo awesome, thanks for the reply! Do you ever use premade binding for under those seams? I have long runs for big marine cushions and would like to not have to cut strips if possible

      If you do lots of cushions with double stitches, I would suggest you to purchase rolls of premade narrow strips (1/2") useful for those seams backing.
      Similar to bias binding rolls

    What is he really using to stick the leather to the foam please?

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are exceptions when we attach vinyl or leather to foam material. It is the case of concave surfaces like this one of the video. It helps to keep the concave shape.
      This other sample shows the same technique: th-cam.com/video/xxEBaHlH-4w/w-d-xo.html

    so i hadnt considered the stretch of the sew foam and vinyl. Do you do you put stretch with stretch or does that end up causing bagginess and wrinkles?

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The vinyl and backing foam should stretch the same direction. At the fitting process it gives the desired shape.

    Hi Cechaflo, I love your videos! I have a couple questions for you. What is the device you use to hold down the backing for the French seam at the 12 minute mark? Also, where did you get that top stitch guide foot you used for the French seams? Thanks!

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The device in min. 12 is a kind of guide that helps to keep the backing strip stright enough. I did it out of a piece of metal sheet. The guide is similar to a waist bag guide that grasps its strap.www.amazon.in/GoTrippin-Camping-Outdoors-Polyester-Adjustable/dp/B088LHS5LP

    You never showed the part where you added seam allowance after you made your templates? I have always used heavy plastic to make my templates
