So nice that you acknowledge and show sensitivity to the fact that these are times & that people do need to stretch a dollar. You're an amazing man, Kent. God bless you.
Oh Kent, my mother, Rest her soul, would make a dish so similar, never would buy those kits, but she fed me and half the school...No one went hungry, at out table.... thanks for posting this video!
Mom tried it once or twice; she figured she could do better and cheaper with what we had in the house. There was no need to spend the, what? 59 cents or so for a box of stuff and then buy the meat. My next exposure to it was in college with a couple of neighbors. They ate it, but... eh, not that great. This was early to mid 70s.
When I got into the construction industry after high school and moved in to my own place, my sandwiches were named after the hamburger helper I had the night before. I was lucky, most of the job trailers had a microwave someone brought from home. Tomato sandwiches were the best during the summer. TY Ricky Raines.
Boy, I remember back in the '70s we'd go to the store and walk out with cans of tuna, boxes of mac and cheese, cheap ground beef, and Hamburger Helper if it was a good week.
My beloved late wife would sometimes ask me when I'm cooking- "Honey, are you sure that's not too much cheese"? I would always reply- "Of course not! I can still lift it"!! Lord, I miss her so.
Kent, that hamburger helper takes me back to the US during the troop disengagement from 'Nam,... we teenagers thought we were sooooo sophisticated because we could feed ourselves a hot meal with a frying pan n what was in that 'helper' box. Little did we know, how hard the real, real world would change us from such simple things. Hats off to you and all your family 2 n 4 legged!
Thank you for recognizing the first responders and I would also like to recognize local law enforcement in every city around the country. They also fight battles daily and keep neighborhoods safe. Thank you Mr Rollins.
Being a veteran I appreciate you always have the Stars and Stripes flying and you remove your hat at the end to thank all our active duty men and women, our veterans and our very brave first responders, I know this because I worked trauma with them for 11 years. Kent, my cap is off to you my friend. God bless you.
You're right Kent, they invented HH about 3 years before I moved out on my own and it sure came in handy over the years when money was tight. Yours looks much better though! Thanks for the video and y'all take care.
When you are feeling down, listen to one of Kent's videos and you will feel better. If you saw him on the Food Network when he was the runner up on the show, his personality was so strong that one of the judges actually cried when he was let go. Kent, you have always been a winner🏆 as far as I am concerned.
You two and the important taste testers bring joy to my life during this crazy time. I have been following you for a long time and have made many of your recipes for my family and friends. Although I enjoy the food, I enjoy you all and the smiles my family and I experience while watching you more. God bless you, my friend.
Okay, Kent: I have never been a fan of hamburger helper, but my husband and two teenage sons love it. I saw this recipe yesterday and decided to whip it up for dinner last night. I was AMAZED at how delicious it was and even had a bowl myself! My husband finished off the pot after I went to bed and my son woke up this morning mad because he wanted the leftovers for breakfast. He wanted me to make it again tonight, but we settled on 'in a few days, haha. Just thought I'd let you know how much my family enjoyed this new dinner staple in our house! Thank you for another great (and easy) recipe!
Kent, I look forward to watching your videos every time. No matter the mood I'm in It makes me happy to watch you cook. Sometimes I wish you were my neighbor so I could come over and watch in person. Haha. You're such a down to earth person. People these days could learn a thing or two from the character you have. Thank you for continuing to make content. And thank you for the comfort you bring with it.
I don't comment very often but I do watch all your videos and l like them all. I love this video and the tips to make hamburger helper better. It's one of my favorite foods that my Grandma made. And I miss her dearly. I appreciate you Kent and Shannon for the upbeat positive energy and enthusiastic videos. That kind of positivity is greatly needed and appreciated these days. God bless you all, and thank you for all you do for the communities and especially the farmers that keeps the country going. Stay safe and healthy, God bless you both, can't wait for the next video.
My son uses your recipe to fry fish. I am going to try this recipe for sure. I love my iron skillets. Some were given to me by my Mother. Nothing like a good cornbread and beans in the iron skillets.
Cowboy Kent I grew up on hamburger helper and like you said it helped stretch my parents budget and it brings back so many memories my we didn't have much but what we had was family. Great job god bless
Thank you for showing us how to cook in cast iron on the grill, too. We'll definitely be doing that! 😁❤️☀️ Love to your Beagley, from our two Beagleys, Stormy and Copper. ❤️🐶❤️🐶
As a person from Wisconsin, I say "Yes" to the cheese. Can never have too much. FYI-WI is No. 1 in making cheese from cows milk. No.1 in making cheese from goats milk. We are also the only state that still makes Limburger cheese. Powerful odor but tastes great with mild onion in a sandwich.
Kent, my Mama made many a meal using Hamburger Helper, good loving memories! I have to try this, old school comfort food. The military has something similar called mystery meat alamode!! We thoroughly enjoy your videos and cook books, keep up the good work!🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Oh the flood gate of memories opened up as I recalled momma makin hamburger helper and tuna helper when I was growin up. I was a little taller than old yeller but still looking up at the cattle. We didn’t have much when we were young and momma worked hard to stretch every dollar in the budget including using coupons. Between things like this and our garden and canning we always seemed to be blessed with enough to eat.
Thanks Shannon & Kent (Beag & Duke). Hamburger Helper was usually the first item on the grocery list while I was growing up. Well, with six kids sitting down at the Supper table plus mom and dad, we had to stretch things out. There were usually some fresh vegetables from dad's garden to stretch it out a little bit more. Mom usually always had Sweet Tea or milk for our evening beverage. Great video presentation. Thanks again for sharing. Stan
Cowboy Kent, I just love watching y’all cook. Your enthusiasm and jolly spirit reminds me of my own bull riding Uncle, who passed when I was little. He was always trying to bring a smile to people’s faces. So thank you for the smile today.
Leave it to you to make me want hamburger helper more than I thought could be possible!! I haven't had the box stuff in forever (grew up without much money so ate it a lot). This looks amazing!! Thank you for yet another great video!!
I have eaten plenty of hamburger helper down through the years and still love making it and that dish you made looks great with all the ingredients you put in it. Everyone must have enjoyed eating it too and complimenting you on doing a fine job.
Hi Cowboy Kent and Shan!! I love every one of your videos and recipes. My mama used to make this type of dish when I was a young teen in the 1970's. She worked hard every day and then came home and cooked for us. She was a great cook from Mississippi and my Daddy was from Verdigris, OK. He cooked our breakfast every day. They're gone now for quite awhile. Your recipes and your great humor and caring nature reminds me so much of my parents. I look forward to each new video. God bless you guys and the pups.
I'm new here. I subscribed to the first video l saw of you and Shannon yesterday. I also enjoyed your interactions with your dogs, your dancin, your respect for our flag, and your final words for our military at the end of each show. l wanted to learn more recipes so l put you on my tv and started binge watching your channel for a couple of hours! Real good feel good stuff!!! Thank you.
Thanks for sharing your great recipes, it looks delicious! I didn’t use the cream cheese & sour cream, but I did add red/green peppers on hand , light cream, tbsp tomato paste, tbsp “better than bouillon “paste, tbsp ketchup & mustard, cheddar, mozzarella turned out delicious! Add or subtract what you & your family likes! I loved hamburger helper growing up in the 70’s & 80’s. We had a big family 5 kids and my parents!! Through the years on a quest to eat healthier, I stopped buying boxed prepared foods and starting creating healthier versions! But it does give me good childhood memories! Thanks for the memories & honoring my fellow American veterans! Happy holidays! 🙄🙏🏾❤️
My brother used to make this when we was kids he 10 years older than me but he just mixed macaroni and cheese and hamburger meat we raised our on beef its the first recipe I learned how to cook still cook this today over 30 years later. Thanks Mr kent for bringing back great memories
Today I learned that I'm older than Hamburger Helper. :) I ate it pretty often as a kid, and all the way up through college. Yours looks a lot tastier than the stuff from the box.
The world needs more cowboys like you, Kent. You got me started on using cast iron and now I cook a meal for my family at least once a week (with the help of your carved spatula). Keep up the great work and thanks for being you.
I have never had such a good time watching a cooking video. Like granted and Ill be watching every video. Thanks a bunch for the great positive message. God bless.
Love watching your videos and seeing the pups . This one does bring back a lot of memories , my mom was always stretching a dollar anywhere she could . We didn't have a lot on the farm but we never went hungry . She would make hers from scratch as well . Thank you for for sharing with us . She also had a wood cook stove that she would use in the winter and when I was going to feed or move the stock I always knew there was a couple of leftover biscuits from breakfast wrapped in a dish towel for me to take . Best of times !!!
This is similar to how I make mine (it's a little (or a lot) different every time). What Kent is too humble to mention is that this is much better (and much better for you) than what you get from the boxed Hamburger Helper.
I have made this twice now. My husband can't stop talking about how much he likes it. He says it's even better the next day. The only leftovers he will eat a few days in a row. Thanks for another great recipe!
I can’t wait to try this! I’m loving your new cookbook and planning on ordering some of that Red River Ranch seasoning this week. I give thanks in my prayers for you and Shan continuing to put out videos that give people hope and happiness in times like this! (And your dogs are adorable!)
Dan, I've been there several times. It never gets easier, but I'll never have a home without a furry pet - they give far more than they take! My best to you and your family. Cowboy Kent's Beagle is so incredibly well behaved ... until he puts the broth measuring cup within The Beag's reach on the ground. :)
Sorry for your loss...One of these days when we get to heaven, every one of our pets we lost are gonna be there to welcome us like they always did...full of joy and unconditional love.
Dan, I know first hand the pain and sorrow losing a pet😭😭. I grieved for my Gretchen for 18 months. My new best friend is 13 and the love of my life. I always call him my son❤️❤️.
Yall and Dr dale have been a big part of my life and I love seeing all your videos, i work EMS and I appreciate the shout outs! One of the best quotes I ever heard hunting with Dr Dale about ole Rocky Vinson at camp was " never insult the cook!"
When I need chopped garlic for a recipe. I like to grate my garlic with a cheese grater. I find it really breaks the garlic down, and releases the flavors and juices. Also you don't bite into a piece of garlic, if that's not your thing.
Kent, I'm from Enid, OK. Years ago it used to be very good by the box, but now they aren't. I agree that you find it better to make your own hamburger helpers. Even chili macs too.
Thank you so much for sharing these ideas on how to stretch your budget. I feel like this video was particularly heartfelt given the times we're living in right now. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and helping lift people's spirits. Your channel and all the work you folks put into it is very much appreciated.
You taught us a lesson many of us never knew about Hamburger Helper, loving this channel Kent, and I'm a WISCONSIN native. Appreciate the shout out to WI always, and the patriotic theme. Giddy Up Cowboy Kent!! Please keep em coming! I did ham steak with Red-Eye gravy for the family last Sunday, they loved it!
Economy is important, now more than ever! Thank you for sharing a way to make an inexpensive and wholesome meal free from the preservatives of the package mix.
To this day I still make this for my family except the cheese isn't smoked and I add tomato sauce as well. I tried the stuff out of the box and didn't like it, but after doctoring it up, I made it edible. May God bless you and Shannon during this crazy time. Thanks for sharing.
I add a little green, yellow, and red pepper to mine. Sometimes add a hot pepper if I have it. Also my wife believe s in onions as a spice. Plus a nice red wine to keep the mix from getting to dry
So nice that you acknowledge and show sensitivity to the fact that these are times & that people do need to stretch a dollar. You're an amazing man, Kent. God bless you.
As a Mexican I feel honor to have such a good person helping your fellow friends and cowboys, God bless you and continue your beautiful life.
Jose Gonzalez we welcome you to Texas and look forward to you earning your US citizenship.

Howdy jose! welcome to My country TEXAS!
I'll never get tired of Hamburger Helper. Loved it since I was a kid and 30+ years later I still love it.
Same here. That's my winter comfort food, next to beef stew and any kind of rice and sausage dish.
Oh Kent, my mother, Rest her soul, would make a dish so similar, never would buy those kits, but she fed me and half the school...No one went hungry, at out table.... thanks for posting this video!

REAL cooks didn't need those kits.
Being a child of the 60’s & 70’s, this brings back tons of dinner time memories.... I am going to try this one out!!!
I am a child of the 80s & 90s and I too have many a memory of Hamburger Helper. Just not like this.

Giddy Up Cowboy Kent!! Please keep em coming! I did ham steak with Red-Eye gravy for the family last Sunday, they loved it!
Best part of my Wednesday
I still can not get over the Story about You Kent Rollins, It was amazing story and It touched my Heart and Brought Tears to my eyes.
Still on the topside of the grass, Ken & Shan! Been watching you for years and it's NEVER dull! Thanks for honoring us Veterans ever episode! Rich
Thanks for watching Rich and for your service
Economy is important, now more than ever! Thank you for sharing a way to make an inexpensive and wholesome meal free from the preservatives of the package mix.
You are so welcome!
Cowboy casserole. Merica!!!
One of the most wonderful meals in the world. A childhood favorite that I still enjoy a few times a month.
Kent got so excited he purt near missed the whole skillet lol. I made a similar variation on Monday, huge hit here. Bonus less sodium than the box.
To this day I still make this for my family except the cheese isn't smoked and I add tomato sauce as well.
I tried the stuff out of the box and didn't like it, but after doctoring it up, I made it edible.
May God bless you and Shannon during this crazy time.
Thanks for sharing.
Definitely trying this out. When is the next cook book coming out?
I add a little green, yellow, and red pepper to mine. Sometimes add a hot pepper if I have it. Also my wife believe s in onions as a spice. Plus a nice red wine to keep the mix from getting to dry
Sounds great
