Thank you, I haven’t tried my rotary yet. This was very informative with good tips on how to make it work the same every time.
I have jigs to help also. Downloadable files
Thanks Clack! Tried a bunch of different methods with varying success. Used your method and it rocks. Used a couples of large sockets for the weight.
Thanks. Sometimes you have to get creative..Glad it helped. Subscribe for more… thanks
Awesome video, Sir! Thanks for the info!
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for the video. I am new to the laser world. Have not done a tumbler yet. Now I will.
Good luck
Great Video - easy to follow along
Thanks
Finally got my RA2 set up and used (experimented with) and this video was invaluable. Thanks!
Glad it helped!
Wow that turned out awesome
Thanks, I have been practicing
Thank you good sir! Also thank you for helping me in the Facebook group of D1 owners!!!
Not a problem.
I have this exact same laser! This video is great! I also noticed I have the same watch as you're wearing in this video. It's a really good watch also.
Thanks,, I agree
Thank you. This was very helpfull.
It works well for me, thanks
I see what you mean by a socket now. Thanks for the video!
Your welcome, thanks for stopping bu
Cool tips thanks
Thanks…
Thank you ❤️👍🏻
Your welcome
Very Cool !!
Thanks
First off thank you for sharing all of your knowledge, trials and tribulations!! I’ve learned a great deal! I have a question!! Can the xtool ra2 pro be connected to the atezr l2? I want to know for sure before I even try so not to mess anything up..
Yes, it can but requires the correct cable.
very cool!!!
Thanks
That's a cool cat that cruised on thru
They do that often..
Hello, just found your channel and love it. I just bought a d1 pro 20w and downloaded your jig kit. When I’m engraving tumblers some come out great and others seem like the metal is scorched. Any suggestions? I’m using 100pwr and 70 speed?
If it’s marking the stainless, speed up or cut power about 10%. Sounds like you are marking the stainless. Never run more than 1 pass. With a 20, you gonna need less heat. 100%at 70mm s works with a 10’watt. I would either cut the power to about 70 or speed up to about 100 mms
@@TheClackShack ok I’ll give that a try. Thank you and have a great Thanksgiving
Great video and setup! What do you use for the lines/cm setting?
I run 50mm/s to 70mm/s depending on color. Blue and light color goes slower. Black gets 70mm/s
Great video as always, Just had 1 question, you burn at 100% power, but laserbox basic settings for coated metal only call for 50% at a much slower speed. Was wondering if you could explain the difference,
My burns get done faster is the main difference. The amount of heat generated to the surface of material is affected by two factors, the amount of heat exposed to and the time of exposure. Higher heat with less exposure or lower heat with longer exposure. Either way can be used to obtain a specific surface temperature of the material.
That’s my personal opinion based on my experience. Settings to me are a matter of preference. My method is to test various combinations and pick the result that I prefer. That is how I came to these settings. My laserbox settings by default were 100% at 70mm/s for coated metal. Some may be different.
Thank you, that helps
Great video! If I could ask a question.. So, if the tumbler is any color no prep is needed? If it's bare stainless, you use the Cermark? Thanks!
Correct. Powder coated or painted. The lighter colors require a slower speed. 70mm/s for black down to 50 mm/s for white. On a 10 watt
Great job. New sub today.
Thanks, hope you like the channel
Thanks Clack Shack, I'm new at this , what do you have your intervals set at in lightburn . Also some of my engraving I can notice the lines very minimal but still dark it's not a Shiney picture.
I usually run 254 on metals or coated items
Thanks the prompted response. Im going to do some test runs at that number.
Hello, I draw a cross mark for the center of the logo. If I do framing without the rotary rotating it is perfect and it goes right back to the x. I turn the Rotary on and it goes completely to the right and then comes back short of the X about a half inch every time. So I have never successfully done a cup. Something is off and you can forget about their support
Slow your framing speed down, you are likely having some slipping on the rollers.
@@TheClackShack I would agree but if it were slipping it would end in a different spot. It ends in the same spot every time.
Can you do a video for metal coated wine tumblers with your jig setup stop block? This is a very impressive setup.
I don’t have any to do at this time. I will next one I get.
Great video. I have not yet bought lightburn so do you have setting for laserbox or suggestions for setting that may work? Thanks.
Black or dark tumblers, 100 power at 70 mm/s
@@TheClackShack Thank you very much
Question for you. xtool d1, any reason why when i frame (using laserbox) and then engrave image is centered top to bottom but off to the right? Thanks in advance
thank you so much for this video, have you had issues engraving? when I engrave xtool d1 leaves lines :/
any tip for that, i really appreciate it
I haven't had any issues with the machine, I have had plenty of operator issues. Make sure all your belts are tight and the timing linkage is secure and correctly adjusted. Also, make really certain that the tumbler rolls smoothly on the rotary. I have seen a few folks complaining about the lines and some have been firmware related I believe. I hope you get it worked out, its a great hobby.
@@TheClackShack thank you for the answer 🤟🏻 yes I've checked everything but I still having same issues but is the rotray even I just buought the new RA2 rotary same issue
but thank you for all your tips I love this hobby
Great video, do you have the 5watt or 10watt version of the D1? Thanks again.
10 watt
My husband and I are new to this, I may have missed this in your comments, but, we have the D1 10w pro, now am I correct in saying that we cannot use laserbox? Right now we are attempting to use XCS.
I am not sure, I have not tried using it with the pro. I still use my 10 for general engraving.
Have you ever had any distortion in the image on the cup since it’s a curved surface? And if so how did you fix it?
Not enough to be concerned with. If it is, you have to distort the image to correct it.
Great video how about showing the programming on the computer. How do you like the machine any problems ect. Buying my wife one for Xmas lol
I have other videos about engraving tumblers. Just search my videos for "tumblers"
I bought the Arducam autofocus 8mp, What is the best distance from the honeycomb or the height it should be at?
I have found that the flat lens cameras seen to work be at about 20 inches. I would do some testing based on your setup. Just make sure it covers the entire work area.
Great video! I did an engraving on a yeti tumbler, but it start to rust after washing it a few times. I was wondering if you’ve had this problem before?
I have never had one rust, they should be stainless steel. Maybe it was a bad batch of steel.
When you etched it, did the metal come out rough/etched? I just got a tumbler like that as a gift and I’m wondering if that’s going to happen to it. I suspect the power was turned up too high and accidentally watched the steel.
Does lightburn have a built-in taper adjustment feature?
That is something that I have never used in lightburn. I would have to research it. I have always used XTools software for tumblers.
We’re having trouble with some of the colors (like orange and white for instance) that are leaving little “colored streaks” on the logo. All of the other darker colors have been fine. Any suggestions? By the way, your jig for the rotary is awesome! We just paid for it today and for it cut out! Thank you for the great help on your channel
Lighter colors require more power or slower speed. I range from 50mm/s on light colors or white, 60 mm/s on darker colors and 70 mm/s on black. Also, you can crank the dpi up some and get the really stubborn spots off. This will also make the laser lines less noticeable.
@@TheClackShack do you know how to bump up the dpi in laserbox basic?
@@dustycrewracing lines per CM
@@TheClackShack I figured but wanted to check. Shoot it to 240 which is the highest?
@@dustycrewracing it will go to 300 but that is excessive in most cases. 240 should be plenty.
Which cutting program are you using ?
Are you engraving or scoring ?
Can we see what your settings look like, on your computer screen, when doing this project ?
In this video, I used laser box basic. Now I use lightburn. I have more videos and tell the settings
also... I am getting some random streak lines on my tumblers. any recommendation on that?
I would have to see it. Make sure the rollers are clean and tumbler is sitting securely
your jig and setup routine is genius! you don't happen to sell all that do you??
Yes, look for my Etsy shop to download the files for XTool. Same name as the channel. Thanks
I would be interested in that too
Awesome video...is that a Yeti tumbler or a knock-off version? Thank you.
Hassle outfitters from Amazon, they do not have a factory logo. Should be a link in the description.
Do you know how the settings differ between the 5w and 10w version
Unfortunately I do not, slower would be my guess. Probably about half speed.
Same here.
Thanks for watching…
How did you decide on the XTool D1 over all the others?
Lots of research. The versatility of the design, mostly metal construction, diode output power, small size of focal point and reviews were the biggest reasons. The construction of the machine appeared to be much better than many of the others. I was not disappointed.
Do you have a video using lightburn with xtool d1 rotary? Thanks
Not yet. Will soon
@@TheClackShack what software do you use for tumblers with the xtool d1?
@@mikeledee8786 laserbox for burning. I design in lightburn. I am gonna start using lightburn just havent so far.
How do you rotate an image on lightburn?
the easy way is to use the rotate tab in the tool bar. using 90 degrees or -90
What’s the speed
And power you use on lightburn? I have. D1 10w
100% at 70 mm/s on black. 60 mm/s on light colors
@@TheClackShack thank you
@@TheClackShack I also have another question, what settings do you use for xtool d1 10w for engraving on black slate coasters? I am engraving 4x4 a very detailed photo on a 4x4 slate at 50 speed 80 power it’s taking like 1 hour 35 mins
A thought would be to put a pointed dowel pin in that cedar block at the same center height as the tumbler center, it would eliminate so much surface contact. Will be like using the live center on a lathe tailstock.
Yes, I have actually looked into adding a bearing to turn but so far it works great as is. Thanks.
Is that a 20W laser? Good information 👍
No, that was my 10 watt standard
What settings do you use and software? Thanks
I use laser box basic for tumblers, 100 power 60mm/s
What do you put your material settings on??
10 watt I run 60mm/s on dark colors. 50mm/s on light colors
What are your settings? Power speed etc
On black, 100% at 70 mm/s, light colors or blue 100 % 60mm/s
How do you set the framing speed in lightburn?
Move tab, right side
@@TheClackShack Is it where it says speed?
If so what do you set yours to?
@@shellyjorgensen2441 yes, about 50
Mm/s
@@TheClackShack Thank you and Happy New Year!!
Ok, so you are using 100% power with 70mm p/s...what is your material setting...Stainless Steel or Coated Metal?
The material setting is just a reference to preset power output and speed. The stainless steel preset is much slower. It is typically called coated metal in laserbox basic. There is actually not a "material setting" those are just preset names.
Do you use the air assist?
I don’t currently have air assist.
@@TheClackShack Thanks
I have the M1 and when I do the engraving I see that it is very dark, it is not the same color as the metal
If you cleaned it and it is still dark, you either leaving coating or getting too hot and marking steel.
@@TheClackShack so I have to put the power in 80? Or 90?
How long does it take to do a job like that? Like how long does the xTool D1 take to engrave.
Most tumbler take 10 to 15 with the 10 watt
@@TheClackShack if you don’t mind, what are you settings? I tried to a baseball logo size 3x3 inches and the time was 150 mins.
I had it at Material: Default
Power : 100 %
Speed: 10
Lines Per CM: 100
Sharpness: 50%
did you say it ran that image in 15 minutes? Mine takes over an hour to do a similar sized image.... any help?
Yeah, most tumblers take 15 minutes some 10.
@@TheClackShack what file type are you getting these times with? I’ve tried jpg and svg. Last two tests were 2 hours plus….
@@TBC_custom , I use background cleared PNG files that I edit in photoshop.
@@TheClackShack thanks! I’ll try that next
@@TBC_custom I burn them in laserbox because it is very simple to use.
How many Lines per cm?
I generally run at least 200, finer images maybe 250
@@TheClackShack thanks
MAYMAY sent me
Tell her hey
70/100, not 700/100 mm sec? 70 sounds very slow
I use mm/s not mm/m. Multiply by 60 to get mm/m.
