My husband and I have an M1 and S1. I'm used to the M1, messed up a Stanely today on the M1. Hubby recommended your video for the S1, THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! You're video is by far the absolute best!! Thank you! *Oh, and sometimes the hubby is right! :-)
We do get it right occasionally.. thanks for watching
i Have the m1 looking to get the s1... do you have any tips for me on the switch? Im nervous but need a upgrade
@@LydiaCarey-cd4wq it’s a better machine in my opinion
Just the video I’ve been waiting for from you! It’s been an immense help, thank you.
Glad you like it
I really like how you do your videos! Your step by step is so easy to follow. Other sites either skip steps or assume the user knows all the nuances of the S1.
Thanks, glad it helps
Thank you Thank you....this newbie is extremely grateful!!! Good info, helped me do my first tumbler 😊
Glad it was helpful!
Hey Clack great video especially for a newbie XTools1 owners. Your'e timing is spot on my tumblers just came in...
Good deal. I hope it helps. Just my process….
thanks! I bought myself the 20W version for Christmas and after watching your video I was confident enough to start my first tumbler project. We'll see how it turns out as I have to run the speed a little more than half the speed you have listed on your video- thanks for the content, also love how organized your shop looks!
Yea, output and even the tumbler coating can vary the speeds
Absolutely a great video! I’ve had my S1 for awhile but I’m just getting ready to run some tumblers with my RA2 Chuck. So this video is “just in time”😀
Have fun, glad it helps
This is exactly what I needed, thank you, keep em' coming!
I plan to. Glad you like it...
This was really helpful. I've had my S1 for a few days now and just got the RA2 today (it shipped separately). I was hesitant about the tumblers, but this helps. You are correct about the S1 videos. They are limited in multiple topics. I've seen some pics in the Xtool FB group of full wraps on the big 40oz tumblers but haven't figured out how they account for the size variance from top to bottom.
I appreciate you making this.
Glad I could help!
Thanks for the video!! I have been reluctant to start these tumblers but I feel a more confident now.
Glad it helps, enjoy.
Mann, I appreciate your videos so much. I bought the S1 based on your recommendation and others. My riser base and rotary come in today. I can’t wait to give it a try.
Have fun..
Thanks for the video. I just got the S1 (my 1st Laser) and have a few tumblers just waiting for me to feel confident enough to jump in. With this video I think I can take the leap.
You can use green painters tape and low power to test first
@@TheClackShack That's interesting... So it'll just burn onto the green tape to show what your burn will look like?
Extremely helpful, Thank You
Glad it helped!
Thank you! Your videos are awesome!
Thanks. I try ....
Super helpful and I appreciate you! I always recommend your videos on the S1 groups I’m part of :)
Awesome! Thank you!
Great video. New to lasers and not a ton of videos on the S1 yet. Very helpful! Thanks
Glad you like it. Thanks
Another awesome video like always. Thank you.
Thanks
Great Video Clackey, I am running tumblers today. But still learning my S1.
If you get it set up right, you will thank me. It is all about keeping them still.
Thank you for the helpful video. Please make more videos about using the Xtool S1 40W. Trying to figure out the settings and how to make things on my new laser.
I have a few already... will try
Thank you for the video.
You're welcome
Thank you! We’ve been looking for a video with the RA2 with the S1. We were playing with the RA2 tonight.
I hope it helps… I couldn’t find an S1 tumbler video
yup once you set the distance you can then use the y and x axis and click the arrow and it will move and you can adjust the MM distance that it moves each time you click the arrow button.
great video by the way thank you
Yep
Great video! I'm sitting here waiting for my S1 to arrive today so I can get it all set up and get started. I would be gentle with the magic eraser though, they're basically high grit sandpaper! Ask my wife who use one on some clear acrylic sheet once haha
Yea, they can remove material if you bear down.
Great video! Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the magic eraser tip! I just rub it and wash it inder the tap water. Cheers from Texas!
Any time… very welcome
*Nice One!!! I just received a Fiber Laser I’m Excited to try some Tumblers too!!!*
Have fun!
Thanks, I been looking for as many S1 video's as I can and since it is so new not to many out there. I would like to find some using the 1064 IR for the S1.
Glad I could help
Nice jig setup for the RA2, with that being stationary, and using the chuck, you could put a mark on the right side enclosure that aligns with the guide rail once you find the center, then you can go back to that spot without measuring for the center, as long as you're using the chuck.
I just use tool lines in the software.
Great video. I have the 20W version and going to do some tests on a few practice tumblers. I am curious about the power and speed I will need using the 20W. I hope I don't have to buy the 40W module to do projects I see others do. Being my first laser, I figured a 20W would be more than enough for making some boxes and engraving stuff like tumblers. Thanks for the great content.
The 20 will work, just a little slower. Stay around 200mms you should be ok. Only way to get the best settings is to test.
@@TheClackShack Thank you sir. Great videos and you have helped ma a lot.
Thanks for the video this has answered a lot of questions I had before setting my RA2 up! But i do still have a question I checked your Etsy page I did not see the Jig file for the base you use for your RA2.
It is part of the XTool D1 jig kit. I haven’t added it for the S1 yet
You should be called the Clack shack jig shop lol 😊
If the shoe fits…..
Many thanks for that tutorial, it has cleared up a few grey areas. Do you think you might do something similar using lightburn? The crumb tray on my s1 has to be fasted to the bottom of the riser. But good advice to make sure everything is fastened down. Now what about mugs or items that have handles?😊
I have other videos with lightburn, the principles are the same.I may revisit it when I am able.
A couple of small, homemade, semi-soft foam wedges at the corner may help keep the crumb tray from moving around.
Not to the extent of accuracy that I want. It needs to be fixed in place for my taste. Thanks though
Hi 👋, Clack Shack, I am new to all, I can not afford one at present, but I am trying to learn how to use it, I hoping to start a business in the new year, I did try and go on there website but it keeps crashing and closing my device down ???, and I don’t know the reason why,
I will try and find more info on your site, and others, I think I will have a problem as I am in my 70s and I live in France and I can’t speak French, you seem to have a good following, keep up the great work, Merry Christmas and a happy New Year, Phil from the moulin France
Good luck. It is fun but be ready to learn some new tricks.
Thank you for the video, it was very helpful. What lpcm settings do you typically use for tumblers on your S1, 200?
200 is my go to for most higher resolution burns.
This is great! I will definitely be buying the jig once I get my S1. What are you using for the brackets to hold your RA2 to the plywood?
Nothing, the plywood has a hole in it for the RA2
Sorry-I meant to keep the plywood attached/secured to the S1.
@@TheClackShacksorry, couldn’t get my other comment to tag you, but I think we’re curious about dimensions and thickness of the base piece of plywood and brackets that stabilize the RA2 if you are up to sharing those for us.
Try timing the different speeds with a stop watch, I got the S1 and recently discovered that engraving at 600mm/s is actually slower than engraving at 300mm/s since the time it takes for the laser to accelerate and decelerate for a higher speed takes more time than going at a "slower" pace. Now my processing time is much faster and the machine barely moves around.
Yes, it will also adjust the speed down if you get near the edge of the area. It is wild sometimes how things can effect the results.
I was going to bring this up too. I have a design that I had set to go at 500 speed and it would have taken 15 minutes flat. Changed it down to 350, decreased the power from 100% to 75% (better for laser longevity anyhow) and it knocked off 39 seconds. Doesn't sound like much until you count the fact that it was a bulk order. ⌛= 💰
Thanks for the info! Question: how did you get rid of outside line? You did on this video but I couldn’t see how you did it. Thanks!
Not sure I understand what line you are talking about. It could be something that was in an update after this video
Can you use the mesh focus trick with tumblers like they advertise with doing things like bowls? Thanks for your videos👍
Maybe in the next video. Didn't want to be an hour long...lol
Roger that, just wondered if it could be done, to go lower on the tumbler. Thx again!
Thank you very much for this video! I used the setting you recommended and engraved some solid color tumblers. They turned out beautifully. However, when I engraved a rose gold coated tumbler with power100 and speed 500, some of the engraved area look brownish. I wonder if the power is too high. The rose gold coat seems to be thinner than the solid color. Do you have any suggestions? I am using S1 with 40W as well. Thank you in advance.
If the metal is tarnishing, it is likely too hot, The best way is to sacrifice one to science and test.
Thanks for info. Do you have a vid of actually setting up the tumbler in the lathe? I have it and haven’t used it yet on my s1. Thanks
Just set the end in the chuck and tension it. Just need to keep it straight.
Cog hill sent me over
Thanks for stopping by...
Hey! Thanks for the video. Im fixin to order my S1. Do you have instructions on how to set up the stabilization system (board, brackets, and RA2 jig)? I think this would be incredibly useful to have from the start. I didn't see it in the etsy store. Thanks so much!
I have a video on the S jig system. It isn't difficult though. It is different on UK machines if you aren't in the US.
Just got our S1. I'm going to put this one on the wife's required watching list. LOL. Do you think there is any way the S1's curve following could be used to engrave the taper/curve on the tumbler?
You may could but the image would need to be adjusted to avoid skewing with the diameter decrease.
My S1 is on its way, but the problem with the moving tray has me concerned. I saw another video where the guy flipped his riser base over and was able to screw the tray in from the bottom? Now I can't find the video but was wondering if that is a possibility? Thanks for the great content.
I would leave it able to be moved to different levels. You can use painters tape on the edges to hold it while in use. This wouldn’t make everything exactly repeatable but with the two point system, you could get good results.
Great video. I have a M1 and the rotary kit which I have never tried. Since then I have bought the S1 and love it. Is there any way I can use the M1 rotary kit with the S1??
I am not sure it will work without the adapter. The S1 was made to work with the RA2. I am not familiar with the rotary for the M1.
I am not familiar with the M1 rotary. You would at least need the S1 adapter to even connect it.
Just got our S1 this week. Hoping to setup the RA2 in the next few days. Your test burn file of different powers and speeds. Is that something you can share?
I use the tool in XCS. It is under array
Great video. Just one question How importen is it that the tumbler is 100% in level ?
The more level the better but a small deviation isn't gonna make much difference. Square with the gantry is much more important.
Any ideas if the results will be similar with a S1 20W? I decided to go with it and figured I may be able to get the 40W later, if 20W wasn't good.
Speeds will differ but once you find the right settings, results will look as good.
Hi and thanks so much! I'm trying to find your jig for the RA2 for the S1. Are you still selling it? If so, can you drop the link? Thanks!

Any chance you would put that cutout for the RA2 on your etsy shop? I'm new and not quite sure how to make a tight fit for the ra2 to sit in. Thanks
It is already there in the xTool D1 jig kit. I just used the RA2 portion.
Love the videos and I purchased the jigs for s1 off your etsy
Do you have the jig for ra2 you can make available
Yes, its in the S1 kit.
i think i might have gotten an early or incomplete download i only have jig item file and jig system cut file @@TheClackShack
@@growan_fitness6430 message me from your order.
Higher speeds need to be a large size or it becomes slower with small engraving sizes due to the over run the module needs to travel to engrave @ the set speed. I have done months and months of testing. I have had the S1 since the beginning of June
engrave a 1 inch square @600mm/s and then engrave same size square @200mm/s and see the time difference.
Ok
Sure
This is applicable to all lasers using a similar gantry system. The engineers design in this over-run to reduce stresses on the gantry, but remember it only reduces them. High speeds still force the motors to work harder when switching directions, so it affects the unit's lifespan as well. Most people (YT creators I've watched and myself) have found they get similar or slower times when going over 200mm/sec on anything under 3-4 inches (or large jobs that have lots of directional changes), so using this slower speed doesn't really effect run time at all, and gives you better control with laser power and longer motor life.
When using the rotary chuck (instead of rollers), do you always have to vertically invert your images in XCS? I have seen some folks with the RA2 that have said they did and others that say they didn't.
The ones having to invert have it set up wrong. The placement of the chuck dictates its rotation. Place it like I do and you will not have any issues. Just make sure the writing on it is right side up from the front.
Hey Clack the new wooden bottom you made and the brackets to anchor it down how did you secure the brackets to the riser?....Thank you
They are just against the edge to prevent shufting
They are just against the edge to prevent shifting
hey Clack, your Childersburg fan here. I have the Xtool D1 Pro 20w with the rotary tool. Is it the same rotary used in this video or would I need to buy another specific to the S1?
The new RA2 should ship with all three cables. Mine did.
The cable will be different
I had mine ra2 flip, burda image same way you had in xcs and realize I had to mirror my image, if I put my ra2 the way you have it, does that mean I do not need to mirror my image on tumbler
When you rotate the rotary, it runs backwards. Yes, mine is not mirrored.
I apologize if somebody has asked this, but did you have to do any leveling when setting this tumbler up?
Make sure the engraving surface is as close to level as possible.
I took out the crumb tray to allow clearance for the rotary. I get an error code saying that the six screws, that tell it that the riser is installed, are not installed properly. Do I need a work around?
Yes. Look for the screw with a brass ring around it. That is a sensing screw. It has to be in to close the sensors circuit. As long as those screws are in, it should work. May need a small washer
@@TheClackShack I figured it out right before you replied. I took some hot wire and ran it across all three screws on the riser side to act like the crumb tray. Worked with no problem. I think we have different risers. yours opens mine does not. Thanks for your help and your videos. You made learning this a no brainer. Thank You'
clack nice video I see you have a lot of boxes that you made in your shop do you have an app to make different size boxes.
I use a base design from boxes.py and edit to my liking.
Did you have a problem with the chuck? The chuck arms, where's you place the 3 grip arms, are loose on mine. Is that the way they are ? Or can they be tightened? TIA
They have screws in them that may be loose. I haven’t noticed any issues with mine
Hello! When I try to start tumbler engrave, it tells me the crumb tray is not properly attached. Help showed me screws needed to be placed. There a not any screw holes in lowest slot for it with riser. Is there a crumb tray detection setting I can put as ignore?
Look for the screw holes that have small pieces of copper in them. There are three screws on the sides that must be tightened until thew touch this copper. I had the same issue when I was trying to install the screen printer tool.
Found something yesterday, I forgot to hit start after selecting process and getting to the start screen. I went straight to machine button and laser moved off of work area and just burned a spot. hit start before machine button.
Yea, that button will re-run the previous job. Good for repeats
Have you tried on Your LaserMatic MK2 to do tumblers?
Yes, I love the setup but to do really large ones you have to get creative.
Oh OK Thanks Sir@@TheClackShack
Hi Friend. appreciate your work. Do you have the dimensions of your plywood piece that your RA2 templates sits in? I am sorry if you shared this already.
I sell the Jig system in my Etsy shop if that is what you are talking about.
is the riser necessary for tumbler engraving?
To get the depth without just sitting it on blocks, yes. You could work around it with some carpentry skills.
All the Dewalt tools on the wall back there, but use a Milwaukee tape measure. LOL Just kidding.
It is a tiny pocket tape measure, I couldn’t resist.
I've been having a heck of a time with getting tumblers to take full wraps. Is there a way to extend the xcs canvas to that I can have it wrap a stanley. When I try with the s1, the canvas is too skinny for the wrap. It seems goofy that i can't use xcs to fully wrap a tumbler. Am I missing something?
The software should turn off the Y axis limits when using the rotary but I haven't tried. You could set the machine up in lightburn and create a profile just for tumblers with a larger Y work space. This way, you could set the axis as big as you wanted.
@@TheClackShack good call. I went to Lightburn to get the full wrap setup making the y work area bigger. Appreciate the help. Just grabbed a few more of your jig setups on etsy today. Apprciate all the good stuff you put out.
Glad you got it working. Enjoy@@pnwprepared
Just tested my machine in XCS with your issue. Try spilling over the bottom of the work area and not in the top. Apparently if you put the extra out the bottom, it works. Who knew?
would you be willing to share your jig you made to put your RA2 in so I can cut one too.
It is part of my xTool D1 and S1 jig systems in my Etsy shop.
@@TheClackShack found it and bought it. what thickness of wood did you use to make the jig? 6mm?
@@shift838 it’s not material specific, 4mm or thicker
Would the Power and Speed be the same with the 20w ?
Not exactly. 20 watt would be lower speeds
It would be slower..
The 20 watt would need lower speeds.
It seems everything is for the 40watt what about the 20watt with uk raiser base ??
I don’t have the 20 watt and not in the UK. That’s all I can do…lol
Assuming xTool sent you this unit for a review, would this be a laser you would spend your money on?
If the work area fits your needs. That is the only limitation so far. They do have a power feed if that’s your thing.
Pleaae do mire S1 videos using XCS 2.0
I do a good bit with XCS, just not always on the S1
Mine won’t let me enter anything over 120mm in the diameter I can’t find any answers any ideas ?
If you are in XCS, I believe they have limits set. These are only 75mm. The RA2 cannot support anything bigger than that without it hitting the bottom.
@@TheClackShack the wierd thing is i did a larger cup before and then switched to a small tumblr which in inches was about 7 around the base but it wouldn’t let me enter anything over like 4.4 or it would just auto set back to 4.45 or so
