I blew my motor last week, and because of this show I felt confident and capable enough to pull my own motor and swap with a new one. Buying a parts car from Copart, but I had the engine pulled in a day and a half. I know this'll get buried but it was the thing I've done I've felt most accomplished about in my life, so thank you Chris.

@@HBKfan4lifeRKO haven't dug into the motor yet, but I think it was a mix of low oil 🤦🏼♂️ and a cam chain tensioner failure. Apparently a common problem on the Mk6 GTI. The low oil was stupid, but when I did my first oil change I dumped LiquiMoly into the engine, popped under the car, and immediately stripped the soft (plastic?) torx bit plug. I had to drain the oil out the dipstick tube, and I forgot to get it serviced. And that's on top of my abusive driving. Motor is seized and it's only at 77k

Definitely figure out what's making that noise and then assess if you should fix it or not. For instance if it's a power steering or alternator bearing, send it! If it's in the timing assembly definitely replace it.

Well no surprise they dont colormatch. Opposed to what people believe, usually there are 3-7 different colors coming out of the factory with the same "color code". Basicly everytime they change something on the process the color differs a little. Some cars have even bigger differences with the same code colors and there can easily be over ten different colors for the same code. Vag is one that makes different models and brands in different countries with the same code colors and they arent allways even close to similar if looked side by side. Anyways the subie looks nice and I wouldnt be too worried about little things like that with a budget build!

Yeah why doesn’t he just polish the whole car? It would get the oxidization and swirl marks out of the clear coat, at least a little. (I doubt he will take the correct processes when compounding and polishing as he hardly washes his car) Some people don’t realize how much polishing really brings the depth and color back. Maybe one day?

The thing with some of the cheaper HID bulbs can be a few different things. 1) The actual length of the glass can be different causing the optics to be off resulting in less than optimal output. 2) The way the glass is affixed to the plastic bulb housing the glue is generally cheaper and can "leak" and almost essentially feel like the bulb is glued into the projector. In time this can also damage the internal of the projector.
I owned a 2006 Sti. The factory clutch is very heavy, so it gives the feeling of an upgraded clutch. I traded the car with 190k miles and the factory clutch was still working without slipping. For the secondary channel name, "Don't B, Build"
I have a stock 07 Wrx, my clutch feels upgraded but it’s still stock, I find the hawk eyes have really aggressive clutches. When I press in my couch is pushes me back into my seat and I love how firm it is

Halogens are 3000 Kelvin and light everything evenly. High Intensity Discharge Xenon (HID) at 4500K make lane markers and signs glow. HID above 5000K can make it difficult to see dull objects like animals. 4500K was a good choice.
the lightbulbs are what got me you don't need two working bulbs for a test drive during day time after which the car will sit in the shop for at least another week
Yeah, they were pretty stupid there. After all, if the ballasts from the old lights worked in the new ones, then the old lights essentially work. Just change the HID bulbs....oh they did that didnt they? They could have done some restoration would have taken 20 mins max per light but they spent $300 and keep calling it a budget build. And yes, they don't need lights to run during the daytime, they could've order it in cheap from amazone or ebay. Not well thought out.
I bought my Integra that ran and drove (still does) for the price you bought those headlight housing, bulbs, and front piece. Not so much a budget build, but you guys do make good videos and do good work though. Definitely a good little Subaru
Two things you should definitely do before you keep driving it and beating on it. Replace the water pump and timing belt with new pulleys and a OEM water pump for an 02 WRX. They're cast and are better quality than the STI ones. Second is get a tune and not just a Cobb off the shelf tune. We are currently dealing with an STI that had one and is now knocking

The thing is - this was supposed to be a budget project. Upgrading the engine would take it beyond what it meant to be a budget project.

It’s a rally inspired car forget about the paint. I even have a SUMO lift kit that might fit that wrx HMU

loud pulley is usually the AC idler, just pull the ac belt and see if it gets quiet. if so it's a quick swap.
