Ohhhh maaaaan. I've had a Java Black Pearl '04 STi for 16 years and have worked hard to keep her running and looking great. She's put 100k on the new shortblock and just rolled past 270k on the chassis. It's so rare (and a treat) to see GD STi's in stock form and excellent condition. I couldn't look away from the screen! Kudos to you Devin (and your lady) for putting so much time and care into getting that one sorted. Cool video but it's not really a return to stock video. It's a detailing and restore video. I know at the very least the airbox wasn't stock, and I assume it has TVG deletes. Although it did look like the stock turbo cover which is a common change out to a blanket. You were at one point using different spacers for the wheels but changed the wheel bearings to fit the new setup.
You make it look so easy it's literally insane. Wish I had your skill so I can put new shocks, tie rods and a new exhaust on without having to pay someone else to do it
It’s good to see someone not only maintaining but rebuilding and taking care of that car. You went as far to buff it and put ceramic coating on it as well as repowder coating the brakes and rims. Looks good guys
Ну ты вообще молодец, настоящий мужик! Редко такие люди попадаются кто знает как обращаться с машиной. Уважаю! Это самое лучшее видео из тех что я видел.
connectors are okay for a little water. Engine bay gets wet when you go through rain and what not. Just don’t use high pressure and gotta make sure the battery is disconnected and make sure you let it dry for a while. But honestly my dad used to just pressure wash his engine and start it up and drive away so what do I know.
most engine parts that can be damaged from water or high pressure water are part of the engine. Altenator etc. Lines and their connectors aren't excactly water resistant but they can use some water cleaning every now and then even with high-ish pressure. Just make sure you don't damage the cables connectors and stuff like that.
This brings back (recent) memories. I just finished my full rebuild on my 04 STI last year. Had a shop do the forged engine build but did everything else myself (live in a apartment right now, don’t have the space for engine build). I’m surprised you got all four calipers off without one of the caliper bolts being galvanized and requiring a timesert pressed in. I had to do three of them when I rebuilt my calipers. Doing the steering rack was a pain the ass (plus 800 for an OEM rack). The lower control arm ball joints we a pain in my garage at first as well. The anti lift kit were longer of course so that was a pain. So was the intake manifold gaskets after the rebuilt was done, the damn shop bought these thin nitrile gaskets that warped immediately. I love what you did though man. My 04 is java black pearl as well, although she needs some paint as the rear wing is pealing and the front hood scope is unpainted. I’m located in SoCal too. If I see you at an auto cross I’ll come say hi. Best of luck to all the car people out there keeping these early STI gems alive.
Nice car! I have a 2004 with 54000 miles all original blue with silver BBS rims. I don't think there are many left that haven't been modified and they are holding their value well, good luck with it!
