    I am ready to buy one of these, cash in hand. Just wish I could get one tomorrow. I have been on a list for 1-2 years and am still waiting. Thought about investing in the company but, that won't get a vehicle to me faster. I don't need a monstrosity of a vehicle. The last car I purchased was a Fiat 500 which gave me 40 mpg. I was the first to have one in Fayetteville, GA. I had soooooo many people ask me about it. Today when you drive downtown Fayetteville, GA you see them everywhere. I would love to see if the Arcimoto can become as popular in Temple, TX and Killeen, TX. I am not only trying to make my automotive needs GREEN but, I am in the planning stages of building a container home with solar power to reduce my foot print for my grand children and their children. I believe in your product and your dream for environmental efficiency, footprint and affordability.

    I am one of the many who put down the $100 deposit for the SRK. Today 11/11/17 my son and I drove from Portland area to Eugene to visit the new Arcimoto facility where they will be built in I hope large numbers so I can get mine sooner than later. It is a large modern building where many manufacturing machines were already installed. They had all 7 of the previous model prototypes on display. The model 8, the one being built is the only one with motorcycle style handlebar, all the others had a steering wheel. I anxiously away delivery of mine in 2018.

    Guys this is a very cool vehicle. Small e powered commuters are so sensible especially for commuting and shopping. Sometimes I think its difficult for people to imagine this type of travel without seeing one up front or better still, trying one. (Great to see that very brave lady from the TV show "Alone" on the add near the start). She's an inspiration and so is your vehicle, Thanks guys.

    • @skateguy50
      @skateguy50 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      They have heat & solid panel package. They have a video of it in snow and seems to handle as well as another car. In really bad snow around here I see Prius stuck all day long. I personally would keep my 4x4 SUV and replace my commuter car with this, the 4x4 would be used for winter and family trips and this could be used for the other 20,000 miles I drive a year on gas.

      Steve wear a coat and gloves...
      Presumably on cold winter days you put your coat on to leave your house, take it off when you’re in your car, put it on again when you get out, then take it off again in a building... with this you just keep your coat on and sit down. So it’s actually simpler! There might be a breeze on your face but the side panels might resolve that.

      @standardannonymousguy 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would be happy with less of a top speed as well like say 70 KMH (42MPH or so). I say that because with all the traffic that is out there and with the speed zones it is rare that I ever drive faster than that. If reducing the size of the motor would further reduce the curb weight, then I think that that would be a logical direction to take the vehicle to further increase our efficiency.

    I have driven 35 thousand electric miles in a 2015 Leaf SL and a Kia Soul EV+ in Oregon. My Leaf is for sale. If it sells, I would consider of these as a second car. It rains a lot here, and cool temps so it would need doors and a heater. It would be interesting to compare this to an EV running around the coast range.

    My other question is. Seeing that it has 3 wheels, what about this issue of its stand on being a car or motorcycle. The fact that you would be forced to wear a helmet might hinder sales. I'm hoping that because it's inclosed and you have seat belts that a helmet would not be mandatory.

    • @skateguy50
      @skateguy50 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      They would likely have to invest millions and crash a ton of these to prove it safe enough to get that classification, but one can hope. I personally am fine wearing my helmet as it is lets be honest not as safe as a car, but is definitely safer than a standard motorcycle.

      A solar powered vehicle either needs to be very slow or it needs to have a lot of sky facing surface area compared to the drag and rolling resistance that it faces.
      The SRK -compared to solar cars raced in Australia- has little sky facing surface area, and very high drag. Also, most of the US does not reliably get as many hours of cloud free daytime as Australia.
      A freight train would be a good candidate for pv, but it would probably have to be completely grade separated from other train traffic

    • @popeyegordon
      @popeyegordon 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They should be placing solar panels on the roof instead of a clear plastic window. That 200 watts would provide about 1/4 of the power used to completely charge the battery in a day. Since many of us will not completely discharge the battery the solar will actually provide 100% of the power some owners need on most days they drive this, for a cost of only $500 additional vehicle price.

    • @arcimoto
      @arcimoto  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      We are planning on having a solar roof option. Good call!

    • @milliamp
      @milliamp 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A 200 watt panel in a place with 5 sun hours per day is 1kWh. The 70 and 120 mile versions come with 12 kWh and 20 kWh packs. This gives it a ballpark figure of about 6 miles per kWh that you could pull from sunlight in a day in a mostly sunny place. It's enough to handle a short commute or make trips to the store. Americans only drive 37 miles a day on average so you would charge 6 kWh/day on average. Your math has it at 1/4th and mine is 1/6th so our assumptions and math are definitely on the same page at least.

    I would not want to drive this on a regular road with speeds over 30 mph. A toyota corolla has enough weight to crush you, let alone a pick-up truck, tho that is same issue people who ride motorcycles have anyways, which is why i do not ride motorcycle, I know too many people who got hurt badly & few who died. I WOULD not say this is efficient cause something this small & lightweight should be super economical/high miles.
    This might work out ok in crowded city like New York where everyone has to drive sloooow, so your chances of dying if hit are low.

  • @NOLAMarathon2010
    @NOLAMarathon2010 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Remember: a battery is not a source of energy. A battery is a storage vessel for energy produced somewhere else. If your local utility plant is hydropower, say, then you have a hydropowered vehicle. If your local utility is nuclear, then you have a nuclear-powered vehicle. And if your local utility is a coal-fired plant, then your Arcimoto is essentially a coal-fired vehicle. It will still have CO2 emissions, just not from the tailpipe. The emissions will occur at the utility plant. And if your vehicle is going to be fossil-fuel-powered anyway, the most efficient way to do it is with a gasoline-powered vehicle.

    • @argylesrnice
      @argylesrnice 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Check your science sources. blog.ucsusa.org/rachael-nealer/gasoline-vs-electric-global-warming-emissions-953 While it is true that fossil-fueled electric plants also pollute, the overall impact of an electric vehicle is much less than that of a gas-powered car, mostly because of the direct conversion of carbon vs watt usage for the same relative distances. And we can also push for a sustainable grid powered by solar, wind, tide and geothermal energy.

    • @brucemcfarling7810
      @brucemcfarling7810 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Correct. Tom Nally is not responding to the information in the video and appears to be writing a pre-packaged talking point, since he totally ignores the MPGe rating that is given in the video. Given 230 MPGe figure, even an original power source that has TWICE as CO2 emission per kWh of energy has the same CO2 emissions as a 115mpg automobile. So in order for "the most efficient way to do it" being a gasoline powered vehicle has to have 115MPG. Further, given the growing hydro, wind & solar contribution, many grids in the US have the same or lower CO2 emissions per kWh as gasoline, so to be better than the CO2 emissions of an Arcimoto in THOSE grids, you need a 230 MPG gasoline powered vehicle. Good luck finding that.

    • @milliamp
      @milliamp 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think the people above me already covered it but why is it fair to only count emissions from gasoline at the point of combustion in the engine and measure it against the entire supply chain for electricity? If you are going for an apples to apples comparison wouldn't you also need to include the costs and energy involved to refine petroleum, obtain it, and secure supply (which involves expensive international politics and conflicts)? Seriously if you are going to measure the whole supply chain for grid power against EV's you must also measure supply chain for petroleum against combustion cars or you are comparing apples or oranges.

    • @NOLAMarathon2010
      @NOLAMarathon2010 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your point is valid. The average efficiency of power generation at the electric plant is about 43%. The transmission and distribution efficiency is about 90%. The conversion of AC power to DC for the battery is about 90%. When these are multiplied together, you get about 35% efficiency by the time power gets to the battery. (There are additional losses when the battery discharges.) But my understanding is that the EPA allows plug-in vehicle makers to calculate equivalent MPG as if the vehicle was its own power plant, operating at 100% efficiency. That is, the EPA allows plug-in vehicle makers to ignore all of the power losses that take place. Warren Meyer has discussed the issue several times, including this piece in Forbes Magazine: bit.ly/2ogcZCC

      @Tom Nally The same argument mostly applies. When I burn a gallon of fuel do we measure the fuel used by the truck that delivered it to the gas station before I pumped it? Again measuring the entire supply chain of electric against only the ICE combustion is comparing apples and oranges and to add insult to injury it still comes away cleaner because electric motors are so much more efficient than ICE's.

      That would be going backward, lots of hybrids around but none for $12K.

    Hopefully your next generation won't require a garage to charge. #Plug-in Hybrid
    Not everyone owns a house with a garage or driveway. Most city dwellers, who live in apartments, lack the infrastructure from which to recharge a fully electric vehicle. A plugin in hybrid would have unlimited range and would increase the market for the FUV.

      You can charge in parking spaces without needing a garage. Parking spaces with level 2 (220v) SAE J1772 chargers are getting pretty common but you could even run an extension cord out to your driveway. Home Tesla chargers generally plug into a 220v NEMA 14-50 outlet which seems viable enough here and you see a lot of them on plugshare so between available SAE chargers and plugging your own charger into (110v) wall outlets or NEMA 14-50 220v there are options. I don't currently have a 220v outlet in my garage but I'll probably get one installed because sooner or later I know I'm going to need one. After everything is installed swapping out the plug standard isn't a big deal but I'm kind of hoping Arcimoto goes with NEMA 14-50 since that seems to be the most popular with EV's.
      Most EV's and hybrids in the US other than Tesla use the same SAE standard plug that Arcimoto will use. Tesla supports it too but with an adapter.

      Thank you. I am aware of the current infrastructure and it is still weak and will not inspire the majority of city dwellers to go full electric. We will disagree on the standard for "common" for now.

      If you are going to build a combustion engine into something like this it's almost not worth the cost and complexity of making it hybrid. Elio motors is a scam but the idea that an enclosed trike would get really good gas mileage is mostly accurate. You would already be getting 60+ MPG even before adding the complexity of the hybrid system and some of that technology is still under a mountain of patents owned by Toyota, Alex Severinsky, and others. A few of the early hybrid patents should be expiring now but with gas mileage already being so high for enclosed trikes to begin with it doesn't (currently) make sense to take on the legal and technical complexity of going down that road. The litigation companies like Toyota and Ford fought to allow them to sell hybrids would crush a small startup and EV's are both mechanically simple and mostly royalty free.
      Enclosed trikes are smart because motorcycles are light and have a small frontal area but have a drag coefficient close to 1 but cars are aerodynamic (Model S is 0.24) but heavy with a large frontal area. This is why Elio claims an 84 MPG and Arcimoto claims 230 MPGe and no other cars or motorcycles are able to even approach those figures. Batteries are expensive and this is pretty much the only platform efficient enough to allow use of a small inexpensive battery.

      It's a shame that Elios and Aptera didn't have better business plans in place. I don't know about the patent situation. I was wondering if it would be possible to incorporate a small portable generator like a Honda EU2000 and use it to power the electric motors directly or to charge the batteries overnight.

    • @milliamp

      You could probably run a generator on a small trailer you pull behind too but Elio's problems are probably deeper and maybe more cynical than just lack of a good business plan. Paul Elio was most likely a con artist from the beginning. I could go into a lot of detail why but probably not here lol

    Who can afford it when the Oil industry writes the TAX Laws on such thing?

    • @cdhanks
      @cdhanks 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Many states are changing laws so electric vehicles pay a mileage fee. That's fair, EVs use the roads, bridges etc. and pay no gasoline tax.
