    We had a 3 wheel car that was classified as a motorcycle here in the UK. It was called the Reliant and was manufactured from 1973. It was very popular and fully enclosed with four seats but it didn't last and finally went out of production in the 1990's. Whilst the Arcimoto may be a fun vehicle I cannot see it selling in the UK and northern Europe.

    To be able to carry two passengers would give it a point of difference from a motorbike (that can only carry one) and most existing trikes. But as it stands it still has all the disadvantages of a car and a motorbike as do all trikes except the cost of running.

Great thing about this it looks fun really compact side that I love.

    I've always liked the idea of these sort of things. Various companies have tried to get people to buy this shape of vehicle for decades, will the "coolness" of batteries make it happen? Or will it be that millennials can't afford anything and cities are too crowded?
    I live in Toronto, this borders on useless in the winters we get. For a market like Toronto I'd suggest all wheel drive and adjustable suspension for those mornings when there's 8 inches of slushy snow topped with 5mm of ice.
    It'd be great if these got popular in the Caribbean, central America and Brazil. Good luck!

    Will it be offered/legal in Europe?

    • @bassbacke
      @bassbacke 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Really depends on proper homologation and type 2 plug (230 V 50 Hz).
      On their website they state: "We are currently accepting FUV reservations worldwide, and we plan to provide global shipping options. Pricing for shipping will vary based on freight providers and time to deliver, with details to come as we begin delivery of production vehicles here in the States in 2018."
      I'm a bit puzzled that they seem to think shipping is the main problem. EU homologation and adjustment for EU standard connectors and 230V@50Hz is.

      The charging is usually not an issue, most chargers are usually capable to accept both, with just minor changes, like a different ROM. So this should be easy to achieve. It's more a legal issue. :)

    If we can use this on ice and snow in Norway it will change a lot of driving here. Oh you can. So is this comming to Norway soon ? In the summer i love using my electric Zero DSR motorcycle, driving kids and go shopping. Its way cheaper den a car, and its way more better for the surroundings and way more fun then a car, and its fully charged every morning. In winther i often use a electric bicycle, but it have limits even if its a new fun easy world. A car is often way to much and costly when driving the way the most people do. Problem have been that people drive a big car to feel safe because of other big cars around, so less is walking and biking and so on. We need this change to go away from the tank/car driving. I look forward to selling mye ice car 🙂. I do have a classic old Golf cab for fun and meets. I love ice veicles, but not longer as a daily driver at all. Its all about electric now. In the future it will be selfbalanced with two wheels, but this is now and its what most people need in a cheap easy package.
    If it could tow a small trailer it would be selling in Norway like crazy.

  • @billdale1
    @billdale1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    AHA! There was your mistake! You had a LIGHT BULB MOMENT!!! Try LEDs, they're a YUGE improvement!
    Comparing this vehicle to the Corbin Sparrow, which predates the Arcimoto and which you did not mention, the Arcimoto does have several advantages: swappable door panels, more fluid, adaptable architecture for multiple roles (delivery, pet sitters, stealthy security patrol, beach rentals, etc.), and the Archimoto has a passenger seat which the Sparrow lacks.
    It appears there are, or were, two or more Arcimoto versions, one of which has a boxy central tunnel, which probably contains battery cells. A real motorcycle---that is, something that can lean into a turn--- is not terribly troubled by a high center of gravity. But I would be untrusting of any narrow vehicle with a high center of gravity that lacks the ability to lean into turns, especially at higher speeds. If the Arcimoto has its battery pack and motor below the passengers or otherwise at a low center of gravity, I would feel just fine riding it.
    One thing I do like about the Sparrow is its double-football-helmet architecture--- one very robust body shell inside the other, with a layer of rigid foam between the two. I suspect such a body would last longer, be quieter, and be safer in a collision.
    I can imagine an Arcimoto with a wide battery platform that occupies a low , relatively thin platform (less than 2 inches) below the passengers that takes on the look of a retro "running board", to help free up passenger space and keep the CG low... sticking out to the sides just a bit, maybe like an old Dodge Cruiser... which was, of course, another discontinued "retro".
    Even though I have had a Sparrow for several years now and enjoyed it immensely, I admit i would still have a tough time choosing between it and an Arcimoto.

      Heated seats isn't the same as a heater and using your cell phone for navigation and music is silly "in this vehicle" because of road glare and it's illegal to wear headphones while driving. Unless you are referring to the rear seat or optional saddle bag as a trunk, I don't know what to say. Twelve grand for an electric motorcycle and a skeleton shell is a joke in my opinion.

    so he has done no crash testing and because his company isn't obligated by law to do any, he can't fund crash testing.
    This vehicle is meant to be measured on the scale of safe or unsafe motorcycles, and it does well there, but comparing it to a car would be unfair, aka its the least safe car you could be driving. I think crash testing it alongside other cars would allow them to make simple improvements that aren't obvious but improve safety a lot.
    Not to mention putting themselves in the middle of the pack compared to normal cars would result in the parents thumbs up to the san diego college kid asking for ten grand.
    I don't think its practical to crash test custom vehicles, or vehicles manufactured in tiny amounts like the annual goal they have now. It will take 3-5 years before there will be enough road hours logged by these vehicles to even expect a single crash. But I'm not interested in any car where safety is such a low priority.

    I don't really see the point of comparing this to an SUV the whole time. It's a completely different kind of vehicle. Other than that, cool looking trike

    • @zsming
      @zsming 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      they are comparing it cause they see people commute with one person to work in SUVs, so this should replace that part of the commute, and that's the comparison.

    It is somewhat dumb and exaggerated to compare an electric scooter to a big 8 cylinder SUV. Most people would want this electric scooter for the fuel savings and much less for eco friendliness. For a more realistic and relevant comparison in economy and savings, Compare this $12k Electric scooter to a new $12,000 sub compact car then let's see how practical this scooter is. Comparing fuel saving cost is important and equally important is the ride comfort, practically, safety and parts availability. This should be in the $4,000 to $6,000.00 to be more appealable and practical to the masses.

    I wouldn't buy stock in this company unless someone had a gun to my head. Still trying to launch the same product after working on it for over decade! crazy. He's also wrong that 3 wheelers did exist back then, the T-rex came out in the early 90's, and it looks waaay better then this. Being electric is the only thing that makes this slightly appealing.
    He calls this a FUV...I think to earn that title it would have to lean into turns like a motorcycle or the Toyota i-road (which sadly never went into production).

      We recommend giving it a try. There are electric three wheelers going back to the late 1800's -- just none that really cracked the code on daily utility and small footprint for the mass market (at least in the US).
