a few extra notes: Metal Gear Ray debuted in MGS2: Sons of Liberty, where Raiden has to take out like 50 of them on the hardest difficulty Port Town Aero Dive, both in GX and Smash, features a ginormous R.O.B. in the background the Star Fox stages have special character convos if you down taunt quick enough with Fox, Falco or Wolf Shadow Moses Island has special Codec calls if you down taunt as Snake fast enough, 1 for every fighter in Brawl those flowers in Pikmin are called Pellet Posies and out of curiosity, will you be doing more Spirit Origins once you finish the stages?
@@ShockwaveFPSStudios why not a bit of both? there are trophies that didn't get Spirits & Spirits that were never trophies so it would be more encompassing
You should also talk about the platform designs and sfx because they often reference things. For example on Delfino Plaza, the main stage is a red grid similar to platforms in Ricco harbor, the center has a rainbow colored dolphin wich references both the shape of isle Delfino and the color of the portals painted by Bowser Jr, and the small platforms are designed like F.l.u.d.d. And on Summit, the platforms all have the exact same design as the one you have to jump on in the bonus rounds at the top of a level. The breakable ice platform references the main mechanic of ice climber: jumping to break ice blocks above you. It even makes the same sounds when you hit them. The cloud platforms that go accross the screen are directly from the original game and act the same way. The small stalactite that slowly forms then fall has the same 3 frame animation as in the original game and even makes the same 8-bit sound while falling.
Theory: while genericized to some extent, Castle Siege may be based off all three of the games of the playable FE characters in Smash up to that point. The initial castle siege (name drop intended) is something that happens early in Marth's initial game, FE1, and its DS remake Shadow Dragon, where Marth's kingdom, Archanea, is attacked and taken over; Shadow Dragon's prologue even has Marth fleeing from it as the tutorial iirc, and I think those flags may be based off the logo for it(...?). The throne room is based off Path of Radiance and to a lesser extent Radiant Dawn; the soldier designs most ressemble those games, as well as the interior design ressembling some of the indoor maps from it. This would also explain why the Black Knight was initially put on that throne, as I don't recall him being on any throne in either game but here it's the most noticeable way to put him in this transition specifically. The fire cavern ressemble fiery dungeons from the GBA titles, which include Roy's game. It especially reminded me of the dungeons that unlock the sword weapon known as Durandal in FE6 and FE7, both being fiery caverns with the sword being locked very deep into it in a shrine.
I miss the download play function. It was the only way to download demos on your DS Lite until the 3DS existed. I remember playing the demo for Sonic Colors DS on there.
Some additional info regarding the cyclone in the Pirate Ship stage. It could also be a reference to an event early on in the game, where Cyclos, the God of Winds roams around the Great Sea in a giant cyclone. Running into the cyclone causes a battle where you must hit Cyclos with 3 arrows before you are pulled into the cyclone and tossed to a random location on the Great Sea. Defeating Cyclos will impress him, resulting in him teaching Link the Ballad of Gales. Allowing Link to summon cyclones for quick travel. While Cyclos himself is not visible, the sky turning dark and gray could be an indication of the more hostile nature of the giant cyclone that Cyclos inhabits as opposed to the more helpful cyclones that Link can call upon.
Additional note on the Hanenbow stage: Hitting the leaves with attacks will gradually turn them red. If all leaves are turned red, a flower will appear at the top with a chime. Does nothing, but sure as hell is pretty!
Although the stages are a mixed bag I think it had the perfect number of newcomers as well as the best way to unlock them via the adventure mode which may I add is still the best in the entire series

15:45 No mention of the cat poster (which I believe is a photo of Sakurai's cat) or the fact it's weird to have a non-Pokemon animal appearing in a Pokemon stage for the fact that non-Pokemon animals don't ever appear in the Pokemon franchise with the exception of the the first season of the Pokemon anime where Ash visits the Cerulean City gym and looks at an aquarium containing normal fish which was probably an oversight of the animation studio at the time.
There were other cases of Non Pokemon Animals than just Episode 7 back during the Gen 1 Days. Gastly shapeshifted into a mongoose to scare Ekans, Indian Elephants were mentioned in Raichu's Dex Entry. Supposedly it was from a lack of Pokemon Biodiversity in those days that real animals were used. Of course there are times that their former existence within the Pokemon World was implied suggesting a potential mass extinction event that most non Pokemon animals couldn't survive. As for the cat poster here's a shocking idea, what if as Pokemon are artistic animals in our world, what if the inverse was the case & it was a Pokemon World artistic expression of a Cat Pokemon?

Hate to be that guy, but in the Fire Emblem stage, that is not the Black Knight. Furthermore, the Black Knight is not the main antagonist from either game he appears in. Brawl was created before Giratina was known to be part of the Creation Trio, back in those days we had every reason to believe the Creation Trio was just Dialga, Palkia, & the Original One who created both of them. Giratina was just a monster in some weird cave where reality was distorted prior to Platinum & Cressalia was also used for the Final Boss of Battle Revolution in place of Dialga or Palkia. The “don’t move” microgame in the WarioWare Inc stage is from Warioware Twisted, albeit with different visuals. The original version is an egg that falls over and cracks if you move.
In Smashville one of the humans that can appear has a similar resemblance to Villager's default costume in Smash4 and Ultimate, even wearing the Number 1 shirt. I wonder if he still shows up if Villager is on the stage, or was removed entirely.
Regarding the Gekkos and the Metal Gear RAY appearing in a primarily Metal Gear Solid 1 stage, it was actually foreshadowing. A portion of the plot of Metal Gear Solid 4 ends up taking place at Shadow Moses Island, complete with Gekkos swarming the place, and a battle between the Metal Gears REX and RAY. So Kojima secretly got Brawl to hint at a plot in Metal Gear Solid 4 before the latter's release.
This is something that I think has been completely overlooked, but I think a new Smash video you should do is the evolution of every Pokemon with the pokeball item from 64 to Ultimate, because that's definitely a thing that's really changed with every game
Aaron: "--At the time Pikmin only had 2 games" Me realizing Pikmin had only 2 games (and a pseudo port for Wii) and up until now in 2022 we've had only one more (plus a small spinoff on 3DS) and an announcement for the 4th. Damn dude.
A couple fun facts regarding Distant Planet: -The Awakening Wood and Forest of Hope are actually one in the same, down to having nearly the exact same geometry. For example, the area where you fight the Armored Cannon Beetle in Pikmin 1 is the same place where Blue Pikmin are discovered in Pikmin 2. In fact, all of the levels in Pikmin 2 are based in the same locations the first game's levels. -While rain never existed as a mechanic in Pikmin 1 and 2, it would go on to exist in Pikmin 3, and can happen randomly at the start of each day, with its own set of music to boot. However, the rain is purely aesthetic, and won't harm your Pikmin. I believe it can rain in any of the main areas in the game except for the Distant Tundra (don't quote me on that if I'm wrong).
You forgot something about Lylat Cruise: Fox, Falco and Wolf can active secret dialogues with their respective team: Star Fox for Fox and Falco and Star Wolf for, (Of course) Wolf. In some discussions, at least one member of the other team can join the discussion. The teams we hear during the dialogues are the ones from Star Fox Assault and Command. On Fox’s side, we have Fox, Falco, Slippy and Peppy. On Wolf’s side, we’ve got Wolf, Leon and Panther. Krystal appears too, but while in the dialogues activated by Fox or Falco she’s in their team, in Wolf’s dialogues, she’s in Star Wolf instead, referring some endings in Star Fox Command. 🦊🐦🐺
So Sakurai is okay with 8 of the same playable character appearing at a time, but Assist Trophies aren't allowed to coexist with background cameos? What sense does that make?!
if you refer to the change made to the Fire Emblem stage to remove The Black Knight, then a correction should be made. The Black Knight never appeared on Castle Siege. The one on the throne was never the Black Knight, though his design was likely inspired by him.
@@JacobKowanetz There's that, and also the fact that the Knuckles Assist Trophy doesn't show up in Green Hill Zone, and Palkia doesn't appear from PokeBalls in Spear Pillar.
35:33 The spotlight actually does have an effect. Certain items that choose targets randomly or home in on a nearby target will prioritize the character noticed by the spotlight. For example, assist trophies or pokemon that come from poke balls will aim for them.

Uh, you might have some events out of order for Bridge of Eldin. The battle with King Bulblin comes first. Then after Link crosses it to reach the Lanayru Province, the bridge gets warped.
Ah Bridge of Elden. The only thing that can make Jigglypuff's Final Smash interesting. Start the FS right as the portal repairs the bridge. It'll interrupt the FS and you'll have Big Ass Jigglypuff.

I’m pretty sure that the Red Knight in the FE stage is The Black Knight’s actual persona, who wears red armor normally (though his name escapes me at the moment)
So something I just noticed while watching this. If you look closely at the top of the screen on Smashville, you’ll notice what aren’t just stars but constellations. In the Animal Crossing games, the museum contains a character named Celeste, not just Blathers, who will offer to show you constellations in a certain room of the museum
Things that I see missing -he didn’t talk about each location the delfino stage (like he did for the Luigi mansion) -didn’t talk about the special conversation you can trigger on the Star fox stage -no mention of the cat picture in the cabin on Pokémon stadium 2 -shadow mosus island as special codec if snake is on the stage
Yeah, that is absolutely not the Black Knight in the background. And it's more accurate to call him "a" antagonist, but that might be a slip of the tongue.
These are some great videos. Personally I'm not a fan of watching you fight on a strage while trying to explain something in the background. I would rather you just have bots standing or use the replay camera to show the levels but besides that, it's an enjoyable video!
One thing that I noticed is that the transformations for both Pokemon Stadium Stages could be loosely based on actual locations in different games: Grass- Viridian Forest (Pokemon Red/Blue) Fire- Possibly the ruined Mansion on Cinabar Island (Pokemon Red/Blue) Water-Possibly Cerulean City (Pokemon Red/Blue) Rock-Rock Tunnel (Pokemon Red/Blue) Flying- Valley Windworks (Pokemon Diamond/Pearl) Electric-Power Plant (Pokemon Red/Blue) Ice- The Snow Routes from Mt. Coronet to Snowpoint City (Pokemon Diamond/Pearl) Ground-The Sinnoh Underground (Pokemon Diamon/Pearl) As mentioned these references are loose and possibly coincidental, but I can't help but think about some of those places when playing on the stage....
I don’t know I remembered it correctly, but I believe the World 1-2 version of Mushroomy Kingdom was in Smash on 3DS. I know it only got removed in Ultimate, likely to save storage on the Stage Morph feature.
This video is so nostalgic. I haven't played a Smash since Brawl. All of the stages were so good except for Rumble Falls and Hanenbow which sucked. I'm surprised to find out that Hanenbow returned. I remember playing firehouse matches with my little brother at Luigi's Mansion with us playing as Mario and Luigi in their fire suits with only fire and explosive items available.
Even for a guy who defends Brawl, Hanenbow is that one stage that I just can't have fun in. I still have no idea why the hell the water isn't swimmable

This is something that I think has been completely overlooked, but I think a new Smash video you should do is the evolution of every Pokemon with the pokeball item from 64 to Ultimate, because that's definitely a thing that's really changed with every game
I thought Mushroomy Kingdom was done as a shot at realistic games being so brown.
Aaron: "--At the time Pikmin only had 2 games"
Me realizing Pikmin had only 2 games (and a pseudo port for Wii) and up until now in 2022 we've had only one more (plus a small spinoff on 3DS) and an announcement for the 4th. Damn dude.
A couple fun facts regarding Distant Planet:
-The Awakening Wood and Forest of Hope are actually one in the same, down to having nearly the exact same geometry.
🎵 We don't talk about Star Fox Command 🎵
@@WhiteDarkness3113I know, this game was bad. But I wanted to mention it to explain the reference.
I think the Creation Trio in Spear Pillar would take the award for being the most powerful Stage background characters in a fighting game.
pictochat is truly one of the best stages ever🔥
It's a shame that in Ultimate they didn't combine both stages into a Pictochat X like they did with Flat Zone
Chrom also is just Robin's final smash, so you can have Chrom (normal costume) attack himself and then appear twice in the victory screen
You forgot a detail in the Ice Climber stage:
Aurora Borealis are also present in Skinner's kitchen.
Oh shit! I didn't know you were intended to throw the pellets at the onions!
8:27
HE'LL DO WHAT ONTO THE STAGE
35:33 The spotlight actually does have an effect. Certain items that choose targets randomly or home in on a nearby target will prioritize the character noticed by the spotlight. For example, assist trophies or pokemon that come from poke balls will aim for them.
Merry ChristSmash Aaron
Lots of Stages
Best Christmas gift 🎁
okay, on the Castle Siege stage:
- it's not a generic stage it's based on the fall of Altea in fe1
- that isn't the black knight
- the third part is based on the Flame Barrel in fe3
everyone gets this wrong i don't get why
30:14 At this time of year, at this time of day, localized entirely in this stage?!
Yes!
Can I see them?
Uh, you might have some events out of order for Bridge of Eldin. The battle with King Bulblin comes first. Then after Link crosses it to reach the Lanayru Province, the bridge gets warped.
The video does have a note saying the events were there other way around
Merry Christmas everyone
Aurora Borealis does not occur in the Antarctic. Its equivalent is Aurora Australis.
I wish the same thing would happen in ultimate where the CPU also doesnt move in WarioWare. It's a small detail I miss since brawl
Another thing for Spear Pillar stage is that, palkia can Spacial Rend the stage which breaks it into 2
15:52
Extra Trivia: One of the developers sneaked in a Picture of a Kitten in the Cabin to the right of Snowrunt
That kitty is so cute
14:07 Did Aaron forget that Orbital Gate Assault exists or...?
That one starts out on the Great Fox.
Every stage Easter egg
Doesn't talk how true recreation of this stage, when it comes to locations of other levels in Sunshine
FYI the southern lights are called "aurora australis" as borealis refers to north.
Ah Bridge of Elden.
The only thing that can make Jigglypuff's Final Smash interesting.
Start the FS right as the portal repairs the bridge.
It'll interrupt the FS and you'll have Big Ass Jigglypuff.
I didn’t realize in mushroomy kingdom in brawl version has world 1-2 in original super Mario bros for NES in smash ultimate version it doesn’t have the world 1-2 stage 2
The Jumbotron present in figure 8 circuit is actually shaped to look like the bottom screen on an og DS.
15:52 I really wanna know why there’s a cat picture in the snow cabin
You should have pointed out in the distant planet, in the background there's a soda can with the smash logo on it.
15:52 I believe the cat found in the poster is a cameo of Sakurai’s own cat Fukurashi.
08:23 that's Cranky Kong.
Theres a "dont move" microgame in warioware twisted featuring an egg that would crack if you moved. It looks radically different and probably wasnt a direct inspiration, but it does exist.
I’m pretty sure that the Red Knight in the FE stage is The Black Knight’s actual persona, who wears red armor normally (though his name escapes me at the moment)
Could be said you know who, but could also be a knight/general boss, any of those
@@Fermin-hw5pd I find it funny while the Black Knight is gone some random Knight decides to chill there
So something I just noticed while watching this. If you look closely at the top of the screen on Smashville, you’ll notice what aren’t just stars but constellations. In the Animal Crossing games, the museum contains a character named Celeste, not just Blathers, who will offer to show you constellations in a certain room of the museum
You left out all the levels featured in Subspace Emissary
I don't even play Smash but I really like your videos. I subscribed the second you said foyer correctly
Things that I see missing
-he didn’t talk about each location the delfino stage (like he did for the Luigi mansion)
-didn’t talk about the special conversation you can trigger on the Star fox stage
-no mention of the cat picture in the cabin on Pokémon stadium 2
-shadow mosus island as special codec if snake is on the stage
oh hype
30:13 ...So that isn't an Arora Borealis we're looking at?
15:54 he forgot to mention the cat
I love cats
15:52 when you present Snover you can see a cat picture. This cat was the cat of Mr. Sakurai
Yeah, that is absolutely not the Black Knight in the background. And it's more accurate to call him "a" antagonist, but that might be a slip of the tongue.
These are some great videos. Personally I'm not a fan of watching you fight on a strage while trying to explain something in the background. I would rather you just have bots standing or use the replay camera to show the levels but besides that, it's an enjoyable video!
he didnt talk about the fact that there is a kitty poster in the hut in pokemon stadium 2 (15:51)
Cute kitty
Meow
i really want a smash game where everyone and everything returns. all modes. all characters. all stages. from every game.
New Pork city is a cool choice for a stage. But not well thought out lmao.
One thing that I noticed is that the transformations for both Pokemon Stadium Stages could be loosely based on actual locations in different games:
Grass- Viridian Forest (Pokemon Red/Blue)
Fire- Possibly the ruined Mansion on Cinabar Island (Pokemon Red/Blue)
Water-Possibly Cerulean City (Pokemon Red/Blue)
Rock-Rock Tunnel (Pokemon Red/Blue)
Flying- Valley Windworks (Pokemon Diamond/Pearl)
Electric-Power Plant (Pokemon Red/Blue)
Ice- The Snow Routes from Mt. Coronet to Snowpoint City (Pokemon Diamond/Pearl)
Ground-The Sinnoh Underground (Pokemon Diamon/Pearl)
As mentioned these references are loose and possibly coincidental, but I can't help but think about some of those places when playing on the stage....
I don’t know I remembered it correctly, but I believe the World 1-2 version of Mushroomy Kingdom was in Smash on 3DS. I know it only got removed in Ultimate, likely to save storage on the Stage Morph feature.
Amazing video dude
This video is so nostalgic. I haven't played a Smash since Brawl. All of the stages were so good except for Rumble Falls and Hanenbow which sucked. I'm surprised to find out that Hanenbow returned.
I remember playing firehouse matches with my little brother at Luigi's Mansion with us playing as Mario and Luigi in their fire suits with only fire and explosive items available.
Even for a guy who defends Brawl, Hanenbow is that one stage that I just can't have fun in. I still have no idea why the hell the water isn't swimmable
Marth was also in Melee, Ike was the only FE character introduced in Brawl :)
Merry Christmas
Electroplankton! I used to have that game. Can’t believe I forgot about it!
