    Great video. I did a trip across Europe for 6 weeks using pretty much what you had packed and did so without any issues. However having been a Navy brat and later doing my own tour of the Pacific with Uncle Sam, I use the Navy roll pack method which is similar to what you were doing though not identical. On ships, there is limited space and one gets docked if one's clothing is all messy. Rolling clothing instead of folding alleviates a lot of problems at one's destination. It always amuses me when I see people going off somewhere for a long weekend and they have a couple suitcases. I can understand if one has kids or has some sort of specialty clothing one needs for an event but most people getting away for a short trip take way too much stuff they do not need.

    With your rolled items you can use rubber bands around them to help keep them even more compact.

      Maybe not so good - outside layer tends to wrinkle along the elastic line, but give it a try, it might work for you with certain items.

    That's a fine looking weekend bag John. Just checked out the Mahi UK site and their prices look very reasonable if the quality is as good as it looks on your video. Why not get over to the UK to meet some of your followers here! You will love the men's lifestyle scene we have going on.

    Even just for a weekend you left some things out: sunglasses, swim trunks, a ball cap, flip flops, light casual sweats to change into when you're relaxing at night, or for an early morning walk, plus since you didn't pack a light windbreaker the sweat jacket could double as a regular jacket. The sneakers you wear must work for both exercise & fashion, if the only sneakers (joggers) you're bringing are those you're wearing onto the plane.

    Now that the kids are grown, we take a few long weekend trips every year. If we are flying, I prefer a small roller bag to cruise through the airport. Otherwise, I use a weekend bag. The rolling all the pants together is the best tip!

    Nice video John. The only thing I’d change is I’d put my shoes in some sort of plastic bag or even shoe bags. The amount of dirt and germs on the soles of shoes is crazy. Plus it would protect the rest of your clothing if the soles happen to move around and come into contact.

    John, the best advice for traveling came from my Mom. Once in in my hotel room, hang shirts and hang pants near the cuff. Hang in the bathroom, turn the shower on as hot as it will go. Allow clothes to “steam” for about 10 minutes. Most of the wrinkles will relax. I generally don’t have to iron dress shirts or pants if I do this. Mike

    Good segment as always. You need to remember to use all available space when packing. Shoes should be stuffed with socks and underwear. Not only does this make use of empty space it also substitutes for a shoe tree and keeps dress shoes looking great. Also wrap watches in socks before placing in shoes. 👍

    • @rheamorales1329
      @rheamorales1329 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I understand putting socks into shoes, but I wouldn't ever want to put underwear into shoes. I resist packing super efficiently because my bag is lighter when the last fifteen items stayed home, and my blood pressure is lower when TSA decides to pull everything out of my bag at security check. A fully packed bag is a nightmare to reassemble when everything's been pulled out.
      Transparent zippered bags that new linens came in became free packing cubes to fit in my travel bag. I limit myself to ten clothing items and three pairs of shoes in all, so there's only two pairs of shoes and seven or eight shirts, pants, etc. in the bag. The bag goes under the seat, saving overhead bin space for others.

    • @alexhennes8370
      @alexhennes8370 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rheamorales1329 Obviously to each their own. Personally I prefer to maximize my space and I will always use at least the overhead storage for my carry-on. If I'm heading overseas I will bring an overhead bag as well as a backpack that fits under the seat. I believe in being as efficient as possible when packing and that means using every inch for something I'm bringing. Typically I don't have my bag inspected but whenever I have it has never been a full bag unpack so I'm not worried about how much I have in there.
      BTW I would highly suggest registering for Global entry or TSA PreCheck so your TSA experience will go a bit smoother. If you have a good Credit card it may give you a reimbursement for signing up for one of those services. If you do I highly suggest getting Global Entry as that will get you the additional benefit of TSA PreCheck as long as you enter your Known Traveler Number into your flight reservations. And if you travel abroad it's worth it's weight in gold when coming back into the states and avoiding long Customs lines.
