    Hey John, my only add is that I put rolled up underwear, socks or eyeglass case, etc. in my shoes to save more space and even keep my shoes from getting squished. Great stuff! Thanks.

    We have Mahi bags and love them. A couple of tips that are actually courtesy of my late mother.
    1. Find the brightest neon coloured shoelaces you can and tie the around the handles of your bags. It makes it so easy to spot your luggage on the carousel than reading the labels.
    2. Pack a few dryer sheets in a Ziploc bag. Use them to cut the odour of dirty clothes on the return flight. She used to pack fresh sheets as well as some that had been in the dryer. The used sheets work inside leather shoes to absorb odour and moisture.

      I have used these 2 tips for years. The laces are a boon and the dryer sheets work wonders.

    Add to the list: stock up on small bills (ones and fives) for tips, valet, parking, state park fees, etc. // Print out any reservations, phone numbers, boarding passes and maps out a day or two ahead of time. I have this on my phone but one time my phone went dead and it made things very difficult! // Bring an external battery charger but keep in mind if it has a lithium battery, it can't be checked, it has to go with your carry on or personal bag. Great video. Thanks!

    Happy that i already follow most of the methods. I sometimes roll small bottles of liquids in socks.

    I enjoy your videos. Your Packing tips are great. One thing I've learned is packing a suite case on wheels. In stead of packing it lying on it's side, stand it it up to pack. It's easy to stack the cloths.

    Great video and excellent advice. The power strip can help you make friends at the airport, too! There are often far too few outlets for everyone and if you're willing to share, your fellow travelers will be very grateful. Not sure if anyone else has mentioned it, but stuff your socks into your shoes before putting them in your bag. Keeps the shoes in better shape and you don't waste the space taken up by empty shoes.👍

    The empty water bottle, great idea! I learned the trick to wrap my wine bottles when I couldn’t leave them behind..lol...and not one broken bottle yet, but i do wrap the bottle up in the plastic hotel laundry bag first!

    that was a really good video John. Short, sweet to the point and filled with some great ideas. I like the packing of an empty plastic bag which will be used later in your trip to hold dirty clothes or swimwear. very smart. Have a great week...Mike

    Great stuff! I always like to take an inflatable neck pillow as it packs down small and comes in handy every time if the flight is 4 hours or more, and the eye pillow cover and earplugs can save you too if you just want to get some rest and not have to chat with everyone.

    Hey John, the best packing tip I can share is to purchase E Bag Packing cubes although there are other companies that make them. They are light weight and come in different sizes. They fit into your suitcase neatly and keep everything organized. You can then take them out of your suitcase and throw them in drawers. They are game changing when it comes to travel.

    Hi, John! One thing that I've been finding useful is travel cubes when I'm on the road. They help me to keep things sorted into different types of clothes, and are easy to work with when I am at my destination. They also let me get more in my suitcase.

    Informative as always! I already use many of your tips. I have found packing cubes very helpful, especially in larger luggage. They are available for around $20 for a set of four. They allow you to keep different types of clothes and smaller items organized and make packing and unpacking much easier. I also ordered one of the bags you used, got it monogrammed, and took advantage of the 10% discount code offered. Thanks!

    I used to travel on planes a lot for business, and traveling after 9/11 was a nightmare. After lost baggage, having bags rifled through with half of clothes hanging out on the luggage carousel, cancelled connections, horrible airports, hot and smelly planes - if I cant drive it, I will just stay home - hate flying.

    Kevin here. Great travel tips John. I polish my shoes before traveling but I will usually pack a tin of shoe polish in case I have the need to touch up any scuffs that could happen. BTW It's late October so it's time to rock those Halloween socks.Peace. :)

    A lot of the major hotel chains are dropping small bottles of shampoo, conditioner, etc. in favor of large refillable dispensers. I’ve done what you suggested for years, but those days are numbered.

    Is the Raleigh bag good as a carry on?

  • @jcj68
    @jcj68 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great tips John! I went to Japan for 10 days this summer with only a carry on, and the rolling method helped me to pack everything I needed. What I did to further avoid wrinkles, was pack the shirt on the outward layer, then the shorts, then the underwear, this was I had a set for a day ready to go, and since it was a larger roll it kept the wrinkles away. What kind is that metal wallet you showed?

    Great post and informative. I’ve never rolled my clothes but I’ll try. I’m really bad at this so how about questions? I’m going on a long weekend by car to Tulsa from my home in the Dallas area tomorrow, 3 nights, 4 days, the fourth day basically just driving home. I’m guest of honor at a party Friday night so I need to look good (but casual) then. How many shoes, shirts, pants, etc., do I pack and why? I always pack way too excessively and badly. Just a short answer or brief guidance would be great if you have the time. Maybe a future video topic or part of one? Thanks as always for your interesting posts.

    • @40OverFashion
      @40OverFashion  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For the drive, you could probably wear the same jeans and casual shoes both directions with a clean T-shirt or something. For your event, just one other nice pair of shoes with some dark denim or chinos and a button down shirt might fit the bill just right, depending on the event though. I would probably just go with the one other pair of casual shoes and one other clean pair of jeans.

    Really nice bags and surprisingly affordable for custom leather. I’m a little less impressed with their “portion of sales” donation. Why? I absolutely love the idea of donating a portion of sales to worthy causes but donating $1.50 on a purchase of $218 CDN is hardly a portion. I’m not expecting they go broke or anything but I think they could afford a little bit more otherwise it just looks like a marketing slogan. Just my 2 cents.

    I have ADHD, therefore I have a tendency to leave packing to the last minute. My hack is make a list of everything you need to pack and leave it in the suitcase even during storage so no thinking is involved and you won't forget anything.
