  • The weather has really warmed up for those of you in Zones 9 and 10 and summer has arrived. But that doesn’t mean you can’t still be planting in your garden. There are at least 14 seeds or seedlings that you could still be planting in your garden during the month of June.
    Your garden planting priorities in Zones 9 and 10 start to shift in June. Your garden should be well established now and your planting efforts will be around filling in empty spots or replacing plants that have failed or have finished with their harvests.
    Even though it is late in the season there are still many crops that can be planted. Here’s the list:
    Beans
    Summer Squash
    Potatoes
    Corn
    Cucumbers
    Tomatoes
    Melons
    Winter Squash
    Kale
    Malabar Spinach
    New Zealand Spinach

    Ha! Winter squash. Mine didn’t come up so I got a new packet and dropped them in the ground. Suddenly we had the miserable 111 day and I was worried the garden would die. Nope. Those butternuts came up that very week! And a stray chard seed from times past was next to them and came up, too. And now all thriving despite the heat.

    Southern/black eyed peas are still good right now. (I'm in Zone 9) Peppers and eggplants typically do okay in June as starts rather than seeds.

    awesome video, i just started my own garden a month ago its been coming along nicely but a learning process. I enjoy watching educational videos! What would you suggest is the best for a desert? I like in the Coachella Valley so it gets quite hot and dry here. I just recently planted a Moringa tree and it seems to be doing well it just sprouted a week ago.

    I think you might have missed sweet potatoes. And I would love to find out about what flowers can still be planted now in zone 9 & 10 (sunflower? Zinnia?)

    • @StoneyAcresGardening
      @StoneyAcresGardening  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think in zone 9 you should have any problems with both sunflowers and Zinnia. You still have a long growing season ahead of you!

      @@StoneyAcresGardening One more question. I am in Northern California in zone 9a (30 minutes north of Sacramento). Our summers start early and by June can see days of high 90's and low 100's. In winter we see temps as low as 25 -30 and our last frost date is around April 10th...so when listening to your other videos, would I wont to go by zone 7 and 8, since your 9 and 10 zones seem to be geared more for Florida and Southern Cal, which has milder summers and warmer winters than what we get up here in Northern California. Thanks for any input.

    Can you share your favorite companies to buy GMO, heirloom, and organic seeds? Thank you.

    • @StoneyAcresGardening
      @StoneyAcresGardening  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm assuming you meant Non-GMO. You can't buy GMO seeds for your garden. I buy most of my seeds locally from Mountain Valley Seeds. But I also like MI Gardener, and Johnny Seeds. There is a small company called Seeds for Generations that is a family run company that also does a great job!
