Janie you broke your foot you turned a lemon into lemonade. Your inspiration on planting zones has been a great hit and such a gift to us all to see how each of us garden. I pray you get back in your garden soon and we need some garden updates, thank you for what you've done.

Wow Janey! Thank you so much for featuring my garden "Farrah's Garden Diary" Yup, I watched all garden zones and everyone's garden is so beautiful and inspirational.
Fun Fact: The pink and white supertunia vista bubblegum and silverberry was an inspo from Janey's swoop garden at the previous property 😊. Thank you Janey!

    Hi Janey,
What an honor to be featured on your garden channel! I have really enjoyed watching this series and marveling at all the beautiful gardens.
I hope you can come visit sometime! I am thrilled that you will try smooth hydrangeas in your shade garden. They don’t tend to burn in the heat like some of my other varieties can.
Yes, those magenta flowers were snapdragons next to lots of freesia as well as calla lilies that were propagated from my grandmother’s garden.

Gosh, the Deb’s garden is a dream. The combination of wildflowers meadow, large trees, cottage gardens is really incredible. Inspiring to say the least.
As a beginner gardener myself, I’m learning and lucky to have a friend that is a master gardener. I’m always sending pics-what’s this? Is this a weed? I had this weird group of volunteer flowers that looked like aliens pop up in a bed I thought was weed and almost pulled out and sent a pic to her, it was milkweed! Brought in lots of butterflies so I’m so thankful to other gardeners passing on knowledge and cuttings 😊

Discovered your channel. I live in zone 9b in Biggs CA. I have been learning gardening after retirement. I have spent loads of money trying plants. I find salvia is a huge winner. I have different varities. Since we have hot dry weather i have planted many trees. They have helped alot. I have also built pergolas with shade cloth over my veg area. Last year my garden just couldn't handle the heat. This year the shade cloth did wonders. Its now november and the veg garden is still producing. I will continue to watch your channel. I am a huge fan of an english tv garden show called gardeners world with monte don. I have learned so much.

I really appreciate seeing all these different points of view displayed in their lovely gardens. For central California butterfly host plants, California Pipevine (Aristolochia californica) is the only host plant for the Pipevine Swallowtail. And it also happens to have very cool looking flowers in early spring.
For California in general, CalScape lets you use your zip code to look up native butterflies/moths and then shows you corresponding host plants.

I moved to Florida two years ago. It has been a learning trial and error to find the correct mix of flowers. So glad to see Florida represented. I wish tiny could do more education on the drip system and how to install and find the correct drip for plant. I love to plant , but some days I don’t water as well as I should. I want to be a passive gardener, but also pretty garden.

I 100% agree with Michelle from Orlando. I used to want the same thing as her. Different plants from everyone else in my zone, specifically a cottage garden. After so many failed plants, summer after summer. I have realized that we have to just embrace what works in our zone. Her advice to gardeners is exactly what I wanted to say to my fellow zone 10b gardeners, but I didn't get the chance to summit pics of my garden, because of the brutal effects our extreme summer had on my garden this year. However, I will not give up on creating my dream garden. Every fail in life is a learning experience and a chance to exceed in the future. Happy Gardening everyone! 💞

Lovely gardens! Thank you, Janey! Butterfly Cassia (Cassia bicapsularis) is a good full sun plant with evergreen leave for those who are looking for a butterfly host plant in zone 9. I'm in southern CA, formerly 9A and now 9B. It blooms with pretty yellow flowers in late fall to early winter. It hosts the sulphur butterfly. This shrub can get tall (10 ft+) if you let it grow. I planted mine last fall and it started blooming a few weeks ago. It's gorgeous!

Thanks for showing these gardens. I’m in Australia, south of Sydney and a lot of plants are similar but unfortunately a lot more are not available here. But you are right soil is key. I’ve also found raising beds (mounds) is key to stop the flooding killing my plants. 💚. It also makes it easier to dig heavy clay soil.

Those gardens were all so interesting. I enjoyed seeing what others can grow. It's ironic that we all want to have some plant in our gardens that we really cannot grow.
A note for Melissa about the baby blue spruce. Those trees can get big. Baby blue refers to the needle color. Steph on Hooked and Rooted planted one too close to her house. I will say that zone 9b growing conditions could possibly limit the size of the spruce tree. Happy growing to everyone!

If anyone was wondering Michelle’s small tree name at 18:15 is a Powderpuff Tree (Calliandra). This is an amazing tree for central and south Florida gardeners with flowers throughout the year, especially in the winter. Comes in white, red, and pink and THRIVES here. Similar flowers to a mimosa tree except year round and evergreen. Shrub form or trees are available but they do get big so tree form is better for a small yard like Michelle’s.

So if I put the closest town in my area we are a zone 3a but I planted Lambs Ear which says it is good for zone 4-8. I planted it 2022 and it not only servived it trived. It's so funny, I'm in Portland Oregon and we were just moved to 9a, not because of our heat or lack of rain at all (lots of rain, not much heat) but because we just don't get that cold (my Dahlia's are still in bloom mid November 😅)

I less than a 1/2 mile from the ocean but in a Monterey pine forest. Love the video on zone 9. Happy Gardening, hope your feeling better 🧡🌻

I'm in Citrus Heights near Roseville and Orangevale and have multiple Jacarandas. I have a standard Jacaranda that is about 4-5 yrs old 11-12ft tall now. I also have a bonsai blue Jacaranda about 4ft tall I planted last spring. That tree used to bloom heavily when it was potted. And I have a 4.5ft standard jacaranda grown from seed in May 2020 planted a year ago doing alright but not thriving and doing as well as my front yard Jacaranda. It's probably due to the soil being more clay and in the shadow of a large valley oak on the east blocking all the morning sun and some early afternoon sun. I also have another jacaranda started from seed in 2020 that's been in a pot and left outside all winter and some seedlings I started last year from the seed pod my bonsai blue Jacaranda put out last year. All look fine being left outside in pots this winter. I'm hoping my largest Jacaranda blooms this spring. It bloomed the first spring I planted it in May 2022. I also planted two royal poinciana in my front yard. They took off with and grew 4-5 ft in only 4-5 months this past summer. They're still alive so far with some protection. Everything I've read is that they have no chance to grow here and are only able to survive in zone 10B or above. I have several "zone 10 and above" tropicals from mangos to tabebuia trees doing well in my yard.

I'm in SE Louisiana zone 8b, which was just updated to zone 9a this year. I too want a blue spruce and have tried two different years, but sadly lost both of them. I think our humidity is just too much for them and the drought we had this summer just did it in. They are expensive trees so I doubt I'll try it again.

Loving this series so much, I wish I would've seen a garden in las vegas our zone is so so very different from ca weather. I mean in summer time by 9am is already 100+ dry as a bone when we moved in 4 yrs ago it was all gravel and it gets so hot. We have cactuses and that's about it. We have made improvements but very difficult and frustrating try many different plants and they just dont make it. Hopefully I learn something and are successful next year at growing something pretty

This is a bit off-the-wall kind of question because you're currently doing videos on Zones, but here goes: Is it safe for pollinators if I spray (Captain Jack's) Neem oil on plants to get rid of recurring powdery mildew on verbena? BTW: My zone (10) will be either today or tomorrow and I'll be watching for it to be posted cause I see so few gardens from my zone. Thanks for putting this Zone video together!

Thank you so much for your kind words. I use whatever I can get and afford at the time. Because we have such a large property I usually order it in bulk from a local supplier. Usually it is finely shredded wood. I also use the pine needles from our neighbors pine trees and whenever we trim our trees we borrow our neighbors chipper to create our own mulch. We’ve also maintained compost bins from time to time. In some of the more established beds I’ll use wood chip mulch from the big box stores(in those instances I’m not so much worried about enriching the soil as I am trying to retain moisture & keeping things from drying out.) I hope that helps. 💕

Oh my goodnessJanie, thank you so much for featuring my garden and for your kind words. A quick note on jacaranda trees. I have found them to be pretty hardy once they gain some mature hard wood. You might have to baby them a bit and protect them from hard frosts when they are little but they are pretty tough once they gain some size. Also, if ever you visit San Diego I would LOVE to have you come visit my garden. 💕

They are planted all over downtown San Diego. When you visit in June and July the whole downtown area is awash in purple blooms. They were my grandmother’s favorite tree. The ones we have growing in our yard were her housewarming gift to me more than 30 years ago. 💕
