  • Depending on where you live, July can be a really hot month in zones 9 and 10. Even in the more moderate regions, it is still a very warm month. So what you plant in these zones during the month of July will be limited to heat-loving plants.
    Most of your garden will be growing strong in July, but if you find that you have some empty spots then you can fill them in with the following plants:
    Cucumbers
    Zucchini
    Crookneck Squash
    Patty Pann
    Beans
    Corn
    Winter Squashes
    Egg Plant
    Okra
    Collards
    Kale
    Swiss Chard

    9b California just dropped beans and summer squash 🤗 I was always shocked that seeds could come up and thrive in triple digits, but I think it makes them hardier to deal with it from the beginning.

      Thank you so much! Been waiting for this. So I have heard that you do seed carrots this time of they year as long as you cover the soil so it doesn't dry out in the heat we're having and then checking it as the time approaches seedling time. Have you heard this and do you think this will work? Don't want to waste carrot seeds. Yes, I'm getting eager to plant thing we enjoy. Pretty much everything else that was listed for July planting, we don't like. Did plant some bush beans though. Thanks again, I do so enjoy all your videos, especially the month growing ones.

      I have tried 3 years in a row. Both climbing and Bush beans, and Asparagus beans ( long Asian type), the leave just crisp up and blow away, watered daily. I will be trying again in a different growing method, a grow bag on a table as opposed to a coir lined basket. Too many bunnies around here to grow in the ground.

    I think you should add sweet potatoes, corn, sunflowers and pumpkin. I’m in zone 10 b but it’s only 72 degrees so I’m planting the final pumpkins and sunflowers for fall decor. I could also plant corn for fall decoration if I had space. Great video. FYI I might start a few pots of corn 🌾 to put on the porch.

    Can ANYONE tell me if its normal for Zucchini and yellow squash Female blooms to stop in this high heat? Its been over 100 - 105 to 109. I did place shade cloth on the West side when the sun is blazing but, i get these little 1/2 to 1 inch long fruit with a flower bud that never matures for me to even pollinate. I've lost about 20 this way.
    Ive addressed the white flies and aphids, i remove old or crowded leaves, checked for squash bugs... You know, everything we gardners do! The plants are healthy otherwise. Im at a loss! They were producing so much and now, nothing.

    • @StoneyAcresGardening
      @StoneyAcresGardening  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I’m in Zone 10 as well, I started my tomatoes a couple weeks ago but have limited their sun exposure. I’ve noticed that because it’s so hot, they can’t handle full sun at all without wilting so I put a shade cloth, or move the container they’re in to a shady spot in hotter days. In general, I’ve found that in my area, full sun wilts even the most “heat loving” plants.

      Tomatoes should be started in December/January indoors protected so you can plant out in March and have them ahead and ready to go!!! Fall plantings should be started in august indoors and planted out September and hope winter is mild!!!

    • @barnes29510
      @barnes29510 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      6hrs of direct sunlight (morning hours) is all they need; indirect afterwards. Mine are in containers so I water/fertilize from the bottom. I only added liquid fertilizer after the sun drops below the trees. This gives the plant time to feed without stress and the soil drying from excessive 3 o'clock heat. Come morning they're ready to soak up some sunlight. Try not to "flood watering". If you can't move them & have access to a water supply. Try using a soaker hose for that slow drip. I'm babbling lol. Any questions just ask. Have a great day. *Cheers*🍻
