    I have a V10 M6 now, my previous car was a Porsche 911S 997 Model, i must say , as much as i love my M6 there is nothing & mean NOTHING that will give me the satisfaction of the 911

      I did the opposite of you. I had a V8 650i and I traded it in for a 997 Turbo Cabriolet. You must be missing your P car a lot. I just don't feel like a 991 can thrill you as much as a 997 can.

    Packed with character, in other words, well it's not nearly as good as Porsche's but we can't say that Porsche is that better because we're British and Aston is a British car.

    • @raddestdoctor
      @raddestdoctor 10 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Haha spot on. All the British journalists talk like that whenever an Aston Martin is compared with anything.

    • @Addictedtovinigar
      @Addictedtovinigar 10 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      oh come on, what is wrong with him saying its packed with character, to a lot of people numbers don't matter as much as how a car feels and makes you smile. The Porsche is obviously a better can in almost every measurable aspect, but that doesn't mean it is more enjoyable. Although personally i would go for the Porsche.

    • @QuickQuips
      @QuickQuips 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Aaron C
      Or if they're comparing anything against a Ferrari. Even a McLaren, which should have the homefield advantage, will somehow lack "passion".

    • @kara88bg
      @kara88bg 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nothing's wrong with him saying that, its just that British journalists can never admit that Germans or someone else made a car that is better. Only way that is possible for a British journalist to say that is if some British company like Lotus, Lola, McLaren or Cosworth was involved in building that car, I don't know if German journalists do that too because i don't speak German.

    • @Addictedtovinigar
      @Addictedtovinigar 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      kara88bg I see where you are coming from, i do see that with quite a few british journalists *cough* Steve sutcliffe *cough*, but not all. Im sure people from other countries do the same though. But i sometimes wonder if people are watching the same video as me, because to me he clearly thinks the 911 is better and says so, all he says is that the aston is enjoyable and the engine has character, he doesn't say that the Aston is better?

    fantastic review
    it's been one of the few times where you can actually see the driver batlling the car on the track

  • @appelpower1
    @appelpower1 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    If given the choice of which one to use on a track day, I'd blindly choose the Porsche. But given the choice of buying one? The Aston. Preferably the regular V12, or even the V8; the fewer spoilers, diffusers, inlets and what not more it has, the better the Vantage looks. It's an elegant design, and should not be ruined by putting flaps everywhere. Apart from that, the Aston is better looking, more spacious and better to live with every day.
    This is a matter of taste, though; I've never been a 911 fan. I see them too often, they're not special enough for me.

    • @Shift4g
      @Shift4g 10 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      The Aston seems like a nicer drive. The Porsche seems more fun. Which is just Aston being an Aston, and Porsche being a Porsche. Same as it ever was.

  • @cagriffin101
    @cagriffin101 10 ปีที่แล้ว +22

    Astons may look good, but they are stale. Porsche can get 470 hp out of a 3.8 liter 6cyl (that revs to 9,000 rpm), but Aston can only get 560 out of a 6 liter V12? And all astons look alike to me, i can't tell them apart anymore. Annnnnnnd, That same design has been around for at least a decade. Go fresh Aston Martin, you are getting left in the dust by Mclaren, Porsche, and Ferrari.

    • @givemeajackson
      @givemeajackson 10 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      the 911 looked the same for the past 40 years...

    • @cagriffin101
      @cagriffin101 10 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      givemeajackson The 911 has had the same shape for 40+ years, but it doesn't look the same. Nor does Porsche have several models that are exactly alike. Ferdinand Porsche said, "Change is easy. Improvement is far more difficult." The 911/Porsche proves itself and its strategy through sales, can't say the same for Aston Martin. Aston has the same old and rather weak V12, an ancient gearbox, a dated interior, quality control issues with stitching and materials, its not very light on it's feet despite being the smallest aston, it's much slower around a track than a car that has 100 less HP, and it's design, though good looking, is old...
      I may be beating up on Aston Martin, but i really like them and want to see them be competitive. I wanna see them go toe to toe with ferrari and the F12, but they currently cannot get anywhere close.

  • @ph4tboy
    @ph4tboy 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Not a surprise that the GT3 beat the Aston around a track. What was a surprise is that the difference in lap times narrowed in the wet. You would expect a V12 RWD car to have real trouble whereas the 911's RR layout would give much needed bonus traction over the rear wheels in the wet.

    911 GT3 has legendary hallmarks for a reason. I'm surprised new Nuremberg ribg times haven't been attempted with each updated iteration of this exotic on a cold track or moist warm conditions
    Even this time of the year a time below original recorded data is absolutely possible

  • @BlackPenquinn

    Fun on the road has nothing to do with track times. I’ve owned a V12 Vantage. It’s not a track car. It makes road driving so much fun rewarding. Now my Lotus 211 was a track car and I’m sure more fun on track than the GT3. But not so much on the street.

  • @anotherone10

    V8 vantage w/ manual and 991 gt3 are the two ultimate cars to have. V12 vantage just doesn't make sense since its a gt car and the price difference between v8 and v12 is staggering for a less attractive car in terms of value IMO.

      I think you have a valid point there! Did you know that the DBS was faster around the Top Gear track than the V12 Vantage, and that the DBS did the Nurburgring in 8:02 and a 380 bhp Vantage did it in 8:03? So, I guess the 420 bhp Vantage would be quicker again. Still, the guy above has a point, "But the sound!:-)"

    I am not a porsche fan. But Porsche is a way better car in this case. But the V12 Vantage S is not a track car, it should not be compared to each other. Its more comfy then the GT3, It is more practical, GT3 is hardcore. Its very very fast and track focused. Vantage Looks stunning, and its more focused on the luxury part. Either way, both great cars but I'll take the Vantage over beetle pls

    • @dreray4077
      @dreray4077 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is a track car, Track suspension, Race brakes, Stripped out, Competition tires, its a track car just as much as the GT3. No excuses.

    • @kaiwenli3432
      @kaiwenli3432 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dre Ray really? Its just a V12 Vantage, nothing more! They are making a GT3 Version of the aston, and trust me, Aston is still has the comfort, try driving one. Btw, V12 Vantage is not stripped out, it has tires that most sports/GT car has, which I believe is Pzero. Carbon ceramic brakes does not mean they are racing brakes, and nobody really uses CCB in races, Either forbidden or they use Carbon/Carbon brakes.

  • @MrYoumitube
    @MrYoumitube 10 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I think it's time for Aston to use the best of British engineering and reduce the cylinders the engine & body weight. When you think a Porsche LMP1 LeMans is only using a 4cylinder with Hybrid and F1 is using a 1.6 v6 hybrid and both pinnacle of motor racing a V12 production track suited car seems like a dinosaur. Sound of v12 nice, but i prefer maximising motor engineering.

    • @gianhet
      @gianhet 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      WTF dude, production cars need lots of safety and comfort features that weigh a lot.. F1 cars and rally cars etc only have to be a bit secure, but they are really way lighter than production cars, that's why they don't need big engines...

    • @banddude121
      @banddude121 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      gianhet Race cars are safer than road cars and they are still lighter (more expensive though). They produce more power with less though. Nissan's 3 cylinder race engine makes more than half the Aston's power and it weighs 88 pounds. BTW, race cars are comfortable to be in. Uncomfortable driver= slow driver.

    • @gianhet
      @gianhet 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Porsche 911 You obiously don't know what you're talking about.. so F1 cars are super comfortable according to you ?
      Anyway, race cars don't have all the luxury, the equipments like GPS, heated seats, bluetooth etc. They don't even have airbags, stability control or ABS, or any technology except for racing purposes.
      All they have is an engine, two seats, a super light body, a cage to protect the driver, big wheels with fat tires (of is it tyres, I'm not sure), and that's about it, no comfort, they're stripped out to only have the essentials, that's why they're very light.

      gianhet Yes, F1 cars are comfortable. Have you not heard of driver's falling asleep while they are in their garages in practice?
      Road cars are heavy because they don't use composite or lightweight materials unless you're in a Koenigsegg which uses the same materials F1 uses. It is possible to have all of though things and still be lightweight. Koenigsegg has it. It is called the One:1.

      James Stanley That's a great point and I find my comment a bit stupid to begin with, but the v12v gearbox in normal is slow and when comparing with the lighting fast pdk it needs to be as fast as it can, plus the gt3 was all in 'sport' and it already as a sharp throttle, but on the other hand rws + less power.
      Well doesn't matter, gt3 is faster anyways.

    Great video, I commend you for having the ability to articulate every detail, along every millimeter, during every second while driving those insanely beautiful monsters but... you got to learn to SHUT UP a little bit while you're in the car. There's several times when you would say "listen to that engine" and then you would just keep talking! Nice commentary, but just try to talk a little less while driving.

    Uhm. You can buy 2 GT3's for the price of the Aston Martin. But I'd rather have a Mustang, F-250 and Navigator for the price of the GT3 : /

    Maybe some fuel in the Aston would put some weight on the rear. Love both these cars, cant go wrong with either.

    Nice video, good review. BUT
    is this even a comparison. GT3 is more dedicated track day kind of car. IT's surely win all the performance test. Not the power, but the handling and the better lap time, much better lap time. don't get me wrong, Aston is definitely a outstanding car but not the handling and for the track

    • @fundiver198
      @fundiver198 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      But then what is the point of the V12 S Vantage? Its supposed to be the ultimate track focused Aston Martin, so the GT3 is a completely fair comparison for it. If you want something more focused on long distance cruising, thats what the DB9 and Vanquish are there for.

    • @CoreQ
      @CoreQ 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      fundiver198 The problem is ..I wouldn't stay in a Vanquish for a long distance cruising ....turbo will be a very good car to stay in

    The GT3 is objectively the better car with better engineering, and especially embarassing it on the track despite half the cylinders and the engine in the "wrong" place. However, to the general population, it's just another of the other thousand Porsches driving around. I'd have the more special, more unique, rarer, more classical, more stylish, better sounding and more beautiful Aston. If supercar ownership was all about track performance everyone would be driving Radicals.

    This test should be done again, the wet track parameters are different, even for purposes of comparison with the other cars tested. 991 Turbo S, GT-R, F-Type V8, Carrera 4S cabrio and coupe and R8 V8 S-tronic. The 991 GT3 surely will be the fastest car ever tested by you, but must be in the dry.

    These tests are a bit ridiculous when they are done in the wet. Who drives their car hard on wet roads? Give us a test on a dry track please. The Aston is at a disadvantage in the wet because you can't put all the power down.

    the conclusion is full of bullshit!! the porsche is clearly a better car, in every aspect and condition, the guy just can't say it because he's british! he shouldn't be allowed to test british sports car, he's not impartial.

    As good as the Porsche is on paper and in practicality, I'm not one to spend over 200k on a sports car to get an extremely well made VW. I want something that feels more special to drive on the motorway/interstate and the Aston gives that extra bit in terms of the "specialty" department over the Porsche.
