Awesome video as always. I saw this car, white too on the freeway, omg I felt in love. I can see any exotic out there that wont get me too exited. But when i saw this one, i was speeches. Its a beautiful car.
When people wonder why a 3.8L brings $400,000-500,000 10-15 years from now, they will understand once they drive it. The last of the naturally aspirated, 9,000 RPM revving, insanely sounding cars to exist. At just 3.0 seconds to 60mph, it is super car territory for $150,000 today. The huge rear wing (we all know huge wing cars are collectible - Road Runner, Sennas, early 911's, Countachs, Whale Tail Porsches, 1980's BMW M3's etc. etc.) couples with the Formula 1 sound, make this a slam dunk collectible imo. As an owner, I appreciate what it does and feel that I cannot ever put enough miles on her. Notorious for small things, the later "F"/"G" (after recall) engines fixed the valve issues and run almost flawlessly according to most owners I talk with over the years. The GT3 has all of the major things a collectible car needs, relatively low production, brutally fast, incredible sounding, harkens back to last of the 911's that still looks like a 911, just enough for both track and street without breaking your back, A/C, some tech (tech breaks down and bigger LCD/LED screen cars will be harder to fix down the road, with replacement dashes needed) analog gauges, and all the basics a driver needs. While I would opt for the front end lift cars, relatively few were ordered like this. Easily the best and most reliable sports car for the money today and a standout forever.
Porsche cutting the red line from 9k may mean that this engine format is getting to its max, one of the reasons why Porsche is probably thinking about the future of the NA 3.8-4 6 cylinder as rough, it's getting harder and harder to take more power of it while the others with v8s, v10s and turbocharged engines are getting more and more power. Honestly I rather have a 400hp light car than a 600hp that I can't use at 9/10s, but the market are fully of consumers with small dick syndrome that buy their cars of its spec sheet, so I can understand the strategy that companies like Porsche and Ferrari are planing for their future.
To be competitive they will have to turbocharge everything, they already tried to shorten the cap by adding the all wheel steering but it wasn't enough. For the purists they will probably end up trying to cut weight with new and more expensive materials and build a NA flat 4 cylinder.
A good driver can use 9/10s of an GT3 911, you need to be a great driver to do that, but most people buy supercars or sportscars to show off that's why the big numbers really matters to the manufacturers. For example the Aventador is a selling success because it's loud, very powerful and good looking so people can do little accelerations in the city to show off. I personally rather have a less powerful car that I can reach its limits and learn how to be a better driver than have a very powerful car that I can't use most of its power and won't make me a better driver but it will make me look like a better driver like the Aventador for example.
So you never heard any journalist using this terms like 9/10s? It's simple 10/10 is the max that the car is capable, if you drive at 10/10 you would be basically be driving like a race driver pushing it to the limit, so if you have a Miata it's easy to do it because it's light and not powerful (that's why the Miata it's such a success, it's more gratifying to drive at higher levels like 9/10 or 10/10), but if you have a 458 Speciale you will need to be a way better driver to drive at its limits because they are higher so an average driver would drive it at 7/10 at max you won't be able to reach its limits because you don't have the skills and it scares you so you will drive it "safely", you respect the car, but by doing that besides being less grateful you will not be learning to drive better like you'd in a Miata because reaching the car limits push your limits. This being by the drivers perspective, they want to drive the car and have the most fun out of it, so they want to drive as close to 10/10s as possible. However, most of the consumers of these kinda of cars are not drivers and they are more interested in showing off (that's why Lamborghinis are a selling success) so the manufactures have to do want their consumers want, they want as much power as possible to be able to say their cars have it despite not being able to use it, in the end it's a business and the manufactures need to respond to what their consumers want. Porsche still one of the few manufactures that have a lot of "drivers" consumers so they respond more of it, but things are changing so more and more Porsche consumers are becoming more posers than drivers and to be able to compete with the 600+ base Ferrari Porsche needs a PDK, an all wheel steering and now to turbocharge the flat 6 that reached its limits at 500hp without blowing.
You guys deserve more recognition. I understand that this level of editing takes time but this film is coming out the same time that reviews of the RS are! Is it due to the immense quality of finish or does a relatively small group such as yourselves play second fiddle to the big names? Thanks Alex, great work as ever!
One thing I missed the most about a manual gearbox is the direct control when I'm launching the car. If I were to launch an auto or DSG, I just put it in D and floor the throttle. Or a hardcore version is to step on brakes hard, put in D, press hard on throttle, and let go of brakes. In a manual, you can feed the clutch just a bit and rev up the engine, then you step hard on the throttle and feed a bit more and that's when the car will pick up and go real fast. As soon as it start going, you can let go of the clutch and floor the throttle. Complex as it sound, I can control the car way better that way. I can move the car instinctively without delays. Anyone else feel this way?
Great concise review, with thoughts and observations all in line, I could watch you guys review a motor scooter, or a Porsche a brand that I don't necessarily care for but if you are an enthusiast must keep apprised of, great job as usual guys. Also I would posit to you that its PDK only because that keeps the performance numbers as low as possible on paper, something that a car with only 320ft pounds of torque would desperately want to do to remain relevant in what appears to be a power war going on for that last five or so years.
Again and again you guys keep delivering wonderful stuff, these one my favorites with Porsche 's of course, think it's a pity not to have a manual gt3 , pdk it s ok for road and track but not for daily use , a last-minute shopping round and a couple of revs in 2nd gear wouldn't be wrong . I well might prefer a GTS manual if available. Anyway the exhaust sound of this beast its just amazing , sounds like a Porsche cup car. Cheers
I like sticks and i also prefer autos.the reason why i prefer autos is i have had two reconstructive surgeries on my right acl and not having a clutch is somewhat less of an inconvenience.i wish they offered a stick to please both camps because both would increase sales but im not in charge.if i had a car company of my own i would offer both in a competitive car to the gt3
I really feel for these guys. To jump from the Ferrari F12 into a Porsche GT3. Life is rough. Lol I love their vids. Always presented very professionally. Personally, I would never spend that kind of cash on a car where it's ancestor is the VW Beetle. Yes, there are a ton of people who like this vehicle (especially this version of the beet... I mean 911), but if I'm going to be spending this much money on a car, it better be Italian. :-) P.s. This is just my feeling towards this level of vehicle. Well aware of Porsches past and their wins so please don't take offence. Also, if I couldn't have the Prancing horse, I would still take a McLaren over the VW. :-)
Amin El That's where you're wrong. 996, early - modern Cayman/Boxter, and the 997. Have yet to have any friends pick up new modern 991's, but it's not something I really care for. The one I really can't wait for is the new 488. :-)
This was a good video, but I have...a...ques-tion. Would you guys mind responding to the dozens of requests in your recent Jaguar review about...the...mus-ic? It seems that at a certain point in the video, a song comes on which is uncredited and people were...just...wonder-ing. Thank you very much for...your...time.
Why not offer a manual transmission option? Would it just be to costly and not sell as well? I hate all these new cars getting less and less interactive they park for you, they brake for you, they shift gears for you, they launch for you its just sad I feel I am seeing the death of the driver connecting with his or her car eventually they will take us where we need and want to go automatically and no one will be allowed to drive
Hare Brahs The ring? What about the wheel! It's in a Porsche and on the wrong side! As a german i'm just fulfilling the cliché about being nitpicky and not funny. So there you go. Also don't mention the war!
Ja'crispy Diablo i agree, the gt4 is absolutely great. but i'd have a hard time deciding between the gt4 and a lotus exige cup. for pure driving experience, nothing beats a lotus. for practicality, anything that's not an ariel atom beats the lotus...
Theoretically for the price/fun relationship the GT4 destroys the GT3 and goes head to head with the GT3RS on the fun perspective, but Porsche gave every 918 owner priority on the list for the Cayman GT4 and limited its production enough that people that made the deposit for it may not get one. The Cayman GT4 value on the used market may go crazy high like the Ferrari 599 manual did.
I hate how obnoxious the opening sound is. I get that it's a normally beautiful sounding R8 V8, but the levels are blown out and it could be much more smooth. I've been trying to get used to it, but I have to say something at this point.
The 991 gt3 will have one unique characteristic, it will be the first gt3 to continually depreciate. I'm sorry but the only appeal of the current gt3 is that its fast. The relentless drive of greater and greater performance will make the 991 obsolete in years to come. I wouldn't be surprised if the 991 gt3 went as low as high £20k's after 3 years.
sportscentury (1) Electric steering which will feel outdated and numb with the relentless drive of progress making future systems better (2) No Mezger engine; the DFI has no connection to Porsches motorsport heritage and legendary GT1. (3) PDK system that will feel slow and dimwitted in about 2 years time. (4) The car is too wide to give the driver confidence to really explore the car on small b-roads. The previous incarnations of the GT3 are timeless cars, the 991 GT3 is a car of its time. In my opinion the 991 GT3 will be a fairly unloved GT3 in the future.

Seige CJ So far the market has proven you wrong. By your logic, all older cars should depreciate, since manual gearboxes especially do not have greater performance...
Your yearning for a manual gearbox in this car is not personal, everyone wants it in this car. the corporate masters do not think we've noticed the sudden push for automatics over manuals in the media over the last two years. Is it shilling? you decide
candy-ass roodypoo " the sudden push for automatics over manuals in the media" Or maybe it's the fact that the people who actually buy these sort of cars want DCT's.. Maybe a moot point for the GT3 since it's never been offered with a DCT before but look at Ferrari and Lambo, less than 10% of their cars were sold with manual gearboxes the last few years they were offered. I very much doubt the buyers were swayed by any message in the media.
candy-ass roodypoo Your opinion doesn't matter. It has no weight in their decisions. If you were a consumer, then yes, your opinion would matter but you're not. Ferrari got rid of the manual since only 2% of the 599s were optioned with a manual. It's a waste of money.
Porsche Curves Given the outcry every time a manufacturer drops manual as an option on a new model, I always find myself wondering if a lot of people who are buying these things go "ra ra ra, I want a manual" and then find themselves checking the PDK when they are actually filling out the paperwork. As you say, it all comes down to statistics.
eeterp32 Because they are last of (Porsche) or they are rare (599). That is the only reason. They haven't increased in price because consumers want manual gearboxes in their cars. It's the same reason why Nissan isn't making the IDx. The internet talks about what they want but at the end of the day they are buying 10 year old Corollas. Buying used cars makes your opinion on what x automaker should make worthless. So, if you're buying used cars, don't talk about what the market should have.
I hate the "hey ppl hate pdk so lets jump on the bandwagon too" mentality of all gt3 reviews especially since you sir wish to own a berlinetta and havent lost one word about manual gearbox. really sad.
Would you buy one if you could? Knowing you would only get a small taste of what it's capable of being driven 98% (if not 100%) of the time on city streets? Knowing you don't have the ability to push it anywhere near it's limits even if you could take it to the track? :) Would I buy one over a Carrera S? Hmm... Porsche said 85% of GT3 owners will take it to the track? LOL!! That's marketing talk. I bet Porsche told him to say it. :) ALL Porsche cars sold to the public are designed FOR THE STREET!!! :) If a model wasn't it WOULD NOT be sold PERIOD!! :) And would have sponsorship logo's all over it. :) ::)
Vega Rapidus You also need another talent since they are not out just to with a gran prix. They need to relay to the viewer what the car feels like in relation to other and for that you don't need to be going flat out. A professional race car driver is worse than a drone when it comes to these kind of things. Just watch an F1 interview to see what I mean. Every sentence starts with "for sure".
Hello Xcar Just thought Id share my reasons for no longer watching your otherwise very well made show. You guys need to be harder on the cars. The fact that you hardly ever mention the downsides of the car you are reviewing makes your show very predictable and in some ways take away some of credibility. You are after all reviewing the cars in your videos, right? I hope you will take my point into consideration. I doubt Im the only one having problems with this.
5+ years later, the 991 GT3 is an excellent value & under-appreciated for its PDK & not-4.0L 3.8L.
Porsches are probably the best car company to ever exist.
Yes. They don't make a bad car even a stripped out base model.
i see no lie
The white rear lights just fit the body color, what a beauty!
really nice writing here, and delivery too.
Martin Espinoza I fully agree. great video
The 991 is such a beautiful car in any spec, sheesh. Never did I think I'd live in a time where Porsche made the prettiest cars.
One of the greats for sure, If not the greatest Sports Car ever built, Priced even better
I honestly think an automatic in the GT3 makes more sense. Its a track focused car, and for that an auto is forgivable. As usual great video!
Ten years ago when I was a little bellend I hated porches, now Im an older slightly more mature bellend I love them.

Fantastic car
Well, it is so good that you admitted it this time, it's a matter of your personal taste, not a con.
And Chris has already done the 991 GT3RS xD
I'm from the old guard as well mate and that's a good thing! Save the manual gearbox!

I don't remember this guy's name but i love his videos, good job yet again mate
It is good to see a you got your hands on a GT3 for review... 8 months after they stopped making them - guess I'll rush out and order one now :P
You guys deserve more recognition. I understand that this level of editing takes time but this film is coming out the same time that reviews of the RS are! It's always nice to see your videos ! Gets me into the right frame of mind to continue my day positively ! :)
best car channel

Cheers
Awesome video! When are you planning to drive the GT3 RS?
loved it...great video guys!!!
Cheers for another great vid 👍👍👍
amazing editing and review as always ! XCAR is just amazing. btw whats the music or soundtrack at 6:21 mins ?
Loved the review, keep it up
a little shame that i just watched the GT3 rs review then watch this one , still good vid
hahaha the fire part was hilarious!
So much want it is unreal!!
Lol, when ferraris caught fire, Porsches caught fire too! That bit was hilarious.
no mention of the steering? what's the difference in feel between the electric one in this and the hydraulic one in 997?
The GT3 RS is released now.
i always like your reviews, cheers from italy
what's the song playing in the beginning?
I really feel for these guys. To jump from the Ferrari F12 into a Porsche GT3. Life is rough. Lol
I love their vids.
P.s. This is just my feeling towards this level of vehicle. Well aware of Porsches past and their wins so please don't take offence. Also, if I couldn't have the Prancing horse, I would still take a McLaren over the VW. :-)
Pure conjecture; clearly you have never driven a Porsche.
Amin El That's where you're wrong. 996, early - modern Cayman/Boxter, and the 997. Have yet to have any friends pick up new modern 991's, but it's not something I really care for.
The one I really can't wait for is the new 488. :-)
I want one of these!
new vid whoooooooooooo gj mates
Does Porsche have an available stick option or not??
To be fair, your legs would break if you had to change gears at 9000 rpm. Therefore a PDK is suitable for this beast of an engine
My favorite super car/high end sports car. Followed by the Turbo. Ferrari and Lamborghini aren’t my style. I’d buy one or these first.
Can you use the automatic shift 'stick' like a sequential gearbox, similar to a touring car?
Thomas Anglim Lagones i think it's just a mode selector.
Thomas Anglim Lagones Yes you can.
Does anyone know what the name of the music track at the end of the video is?
Gt3 are such car porn.
No manual option is ridiculous.
Porsche for the win!
";-)
Find a B5 S4 and drive please!
I still want the manual...
i love xcar films!!!!! fk them other channels
wheel turning, low speed rear wheel turn out side and high speed they turn inside but if you drive it poorly they knock on your head and say cut it out

basshead972 It's coming in the 2018
You said it at the beginnig, it changes gears for you, no matter how good. Old guard, no posing.

I'd have a Cayman gt4 over this if I'm honest, cheaper, More simple and a manual gearbox!
100%
Ja'crispy Diablo i agree, the gt4 is absolutely great. but i'd have a hard time deciding between the gt4 and a lotus exige cup. for pure driving experience, nothing beats a lotus. for practicality, anything that's not an ariel atom beats the lotus...
Ja'crispy Diablo It's a better car anyways, lighter, more agile and it usually is faster around a track than most 911's because of this.
You Lucky boy !

The clear lights are SOOOO 1990s--it cheapens the look of this PERFECT car.
But can it do a burn out?
I hate how obnoxious the opening sound is. I get that it's a normally beautiful sounding R8 V8, but the levels are blown out and it could be much more smooth. I've been trying to get used to it, but I have to say something at this point.

There is a reason manual 599s are selling for $600K+ and the 997 GT3 RS appreciated $50K after the 991 GT3 was announced as PDK only.
eeterp32 Because they are last of (Porsche) or they are rare (599).
This or the AMG GTS?
This is a Richard Hammond clone.... right?
I hate the "hey ppl hate pdk so lets jump on the bandwagon too" mentality of all gt3 reviews especially since you sir wish to own a berlinetta and havent lost one word about manual gearbox.
really sad.
911 gts vs bmw m4 ?
I wonder if this guy even drive a Porsche....
there should be a option of a manual, even if the sell only 10% of manuals ...
you do know what that "silly wing" does...... right?
Would you buy one if you could? Knowing you would only get a small taste of what it's capable of being driven 98% (if not 100%) of the time on city streets? Knowing you don't have the ability to push it anywhere near it's limits even if you could take it to the track? :) Would I buy one over a Carrera S? Hmm...
Porsche said 85% of GT3 owners will take it to the track? LOL!! That's marketing talk. I bet Porsche told him to say it. :)
ALL Porsche cars sold to the public are designed FOR THE STREET!!! :) If a model wasn't it WOULD NOT be sold PERIOD!! :) And would have sponsorship logo's all over it. :) ::)
I'd take a Turbo S over this all day long. If I had the money I'd have a GT2 or Turbo S.
Gt2 doesn't exist this generation
+karlmalone11 apparently they're making one.
I would never buy a Turbo S.
but...but...but...
991 911 Turbo S is the fastest...
Don`t like the frosted tail lights....
But can it beat a corvette ?
Tempus Apache What's a corvette ?
Neil McMahon An automobile.
Tempus Apache Never heard of it.
Tempus Apache Spanks a Corvette. And has the bonus of not having a plastic interior and a Hot Wheels exterior. Next.
Tempus Apache I'm pretty sure the new ZO6 is a bit quicker.
Goddamn porsche. Why no manual lol
I m sorry but if you re not good at driving why are you reviewing sports cars ? That does make no sense....
Vega Rapidus You clearly didn't understand his analogy. Also, 99% of car reviewers wouldn't be able to get anywhere near the quoted Ring time.
Alin Marginean but my question remains... so why they review cars ? To understand the handling of a car you have to be talented isn t it ?
Vega Rapidus You also need another talent since they are not out just to with a gran prix. They need to relay to the viewer what the car feels like in relation to other and for that you don't need to be going flat out. A professional race car driver is worse than a drone when it comes to these kind of things. Just watch an F1 interview to see what I mean. Every sentence starts with "for sure".
Alin Marginean it depends of the type of driver I think u don t see my point. I was not speaking about pure laptime skills.
Vega Rapidus Check out Derek Bell. He won Le Mans and he also reviews cars but he is boring and less than insightful.
I'm much more of a GT2 fan.
For donating me a new porsche gt4, pm me please.
Your too late to the party
Hello Xcar
Just thought Id share my reasons for no longer watching your otherwise very well made show.
And this was a car with nothing but engine problems 🤣
The 911 turbo s is faster both in a straight line on a track
