I met Mr. John Candy in 1990. I was working at Honey Baked Ham at the time. He came in the store around Christmas time and bought some food. I asked him if he would like some help to his car with the food and he said yes. I got the chance to tell him that " You are a great actor, and your movies make me laugh, thank you." He thanked me and handed me $20.00. I wish I would of waved the tip, because just the chance to spend that little bit of time with him was more then enough. He seemed to me to be a very humble, quiet person. No ego trip. I miss him, he died way to young.
@@whome5933 yh for sure very funny guy enjoyed his movies but being a nice good kind person is the most important thing in life regardless the man had a lot of class
Incredible man, John Candy. Not a fake bone in his body. Excellent interviewer too. Provides just the right amount of exposition while still giving room for complete answers.
I ❤ John candy. He was such a humble. Guy. Some of my favorite movies - armed & dangerous, planes ,trains & automobiles. Space balls, uncle buck. Stripes, He can be funny, serious, campy etc. I remember SCTV. Classic
Linehan was such a good Interviewer. Always did his research before an interview. You can tell the celebrities were always impressed with him and his knowledge of their history. This lent to phenomenal conversations that you would not get on the typical celebrity entertainment shows. It’s fantastic to watch these interviews now on TH-cam. Thank you for uploading these. It’s greatly appreciated.
I had a new girlfriend so I sat her down to watch as many John Candy movies as we could. By the time it was over she was the one trying to find the ones we didn't see in the marathon. One day I went to her house after school and she said she had something to tell me. When she told me that Candy had died all I could do was sit down. I didn't take it well, I'm still not completely over it. As I get older he doesn't age. He cannot be replaced.
R.I.P. You were the greatest i miss you everyday and i am truly humbled to have your last autograph that my best friends aunt gave to me. I will always cherish it. love you always John Candy comedy movies were never the same when you passed but God had other plans for you sweetheart xxx
Terrific interview! John Candy was much more than a funnyman. And Linehan was a really great interviewer, did all his research, and left the camera on the subject ninety-five percent of the time. I'd rate him as good as Dick Cavett in that regard, but more low-key. Sadly, both persons shown in this video are now gone.
Indeed, I loved both persons. No unnecessary crowd noise, loud background music, shouting names, show-off, grandstanding, arrogance. Just calm, informative, sincere, fun chat. And very satisfactory duration, 40 mins. Gave a lot insight about John Candy as a person. I was thinking why he doesn't have many interviews, then came across this.
@@lloydchristmas4547 Long ago I skipped Brian Linehan too. But after Marty Short started to impersonate him as "Brock Linehan" on SCTV, I started to watch and appreciate his interviews a lot more. (There are many great ones here on YT). You're right in that his research was always deep and on point!
I would like to thank Canada for sharing John with us, loaning this great, talented, passionate man to the rest of the world to enjoy, we miss him terribly !!
Not just his appearance - that thick wavy dirty blonde hair, those light brown eyes, dimpled cheeks, and that cute Canadian accent and giggle - he makes you love him no matter what he does
If City Lights returns in 2022, the set should have blue walls and floor and having the blue used showing a view of the city of Toronto at night, from a penthouse high rise apartment window.
What a Legend and down-to-Earth guy. Love his comment about something coming up with John Hughes which we all know launched him into the stratosphere...
Jhon Candy seems like an awesome down to earth guy. It's sad that he had died to soon, my you rest in peace. I loved him in movies like, Uncle Buck, Trains planes and automobiles, Home alone, Space balls and Heavy metal. And also one kid's show from my childhood, Camp Candy.
Well, John did play a funny outdoorsman in both Summer Rental and The Great Outdoors, and he was good with children, so I suppose a Saturday morning cartoon would have been a good vehicle for him
This would be a "Knight in shining armor" as far as I'm concerned! I would love to marry someone like this man. So, sweet, kind, generous. Laughter being the key. :) Where are they? They don't 'seem to exist in this world or at least I can't fine them?
I was riding my bike on my way to class on Illinois Av. in Carbondale Illinois, around 10am a few days before holloween in 1980 and who do I see, John Candy right in front of the Varsity Movie house. He was doing a thing about the Carbondale halloween stuff that used to happen back then at SIU, which was pertty wild those days, not so much any more I guess, after all that was 39 years ago. It aired on NBC later that year and it was called John Candy on the road or somthing like that. In those days most people did not know who he was so he had no problem moving around but I was a big SCTV fan. We talked for 5 minuts or so and he was REALLY COOL. I wish I had my camera with me and I wish I could find that NBC thing on U-tube. anybody have it
Who's Harry Crumb?, is my all time favorite movie with him!. Lol!! John Candy was funny af! Super rare talent that you only see specks of during each generation.
Interesting how he talks about an upcoming movie with John Hurt and doesn't say much about it other than he really likes it. (Planes, Trains and Automobiles). Then later he talks about his job as a traveling salesman working out of his car trying to sell Christmas napkins in the summer! "Yeah - I'm never doing that again!"

I was watching, here on TH-cam, one of those sketches from 1982, in which John Candy played Steven Brockman. Both Martin Short and John were hilarious as these characters.😅
Can we also talk about how glorious Martin Short's version of Linehan was? Short's Brock Linahan was more officious and prissy than the genial Brian Linehan, but otherwise it's perfect.
I think it’s harder for women to find success in comedic roles because it requires an aggressiveness that traditionally was not seen in women - don’t forget the entire evolution of equality in women isn’t that old. I always had a feeling there was a big heart behind John Candy ~ he is my all time favourite and his laugh ~ I will never forget his laugh!
Nice story. Thanks for sharing. He's one of the first celebrities I miss.
Very likeable, exemplary personality he had.
A very humble and down to earth person. You can tell by the way he carries himself in this interview.
R.I.P. John Candy.

John Candy such a big heart and so grounded and modest ~ such a special person!
He is my most missed actor!
John Candy did have such a big heart and that makes the nature of his death even sadder.
First time I've seen him interviewed. What a sweetheart. Also such an intelligent interviewer.
To see and hear him here is like being with him personally and feeling good, it is impossible not to feel good.

John Candy's eyes are so beautiful
We will always miss you, John. You made me laugh during some of the most difficult times in my life. Thank you for making it bearable. 🤗
I would personally like to thank Canada for birthing this wonderful man.
His mother's name was Canada? Was her last name Dry?
No, she means that John Candy was born in Canada, specifically Toronto - how do you explain that slight Canadian accent he always speaks in, "eh?"
John Candy was a Icon, great actor/ director and a wonderful human being. He is greatly missed. His legacy lives on. great guy.
He was a likable and genuinely funny person - excellent actor that made millions laugh 👏
I still watch Planes, Trains at Christmas. rip

When Linehan asked a question, you forgot what it was by the time he finished asking it!
What a nice respectable interviewer. 👍
Love John Candy. So missed :(
I agree, this is amazing. What a humble and talented man John Candy was
Yes he was. The best thing is that he stayed humble.

Love him so much and miss him dearly. Just a wonderful and REAL guy.

John Candy how I miss your comedy . From SCTV , volunteers and to planes trains and automobiles …… Everything you did was hilarious !

He was overweight for much of his life. The greatest Canadian actor to be an icon in American movies.

Uncle Buck

His most underrated movie: Going Berserk
Americans remember him from his movies. Canadians remember him from SCTV.

Brock Linehan is far better.
Thomas Danyluk much more subtle 🤣
Host looks like Mortin Downey Jr and a Gremlins Love child!
I will assume John is a death faker. Today he is a Donald Trump impersonator. ...blue tie Trump
Why is it tougher for women? BC they arent as funny.
Two awesome people in the same room.
Gone but not forgotten, a humble man larger than life.
John Candy... everybody's favorite uncle ❤
