- From 1974 to 2000, Canada’s Brian Linehan conducted thousands of in-depth interviews with the greatest actors and directors from over 60 years of film history. His programs City Lights and Linehan have not been seen since they first aired and are now available for the first time for licensing. Linehan, a stylishly gifted broadcaster, meticulously did all his own research and that, coupled with his knowledge and passion about film and filmmaking, puts him in a class all by himself.
With 20,000 hours of music footage spanning 90 years and thousands of hours of in-depth interviews with the 20th century’s icons of Film and Television, Politics, Comedy, Literature, Art, Science, Fashion and Sports, Reelin’ In The Years Productions is now the World’s Premier Source For Footage Of Musical Artists, Entertainers & History Makers.

Brian Linehan, who passed away in 2004, left his entire estate to The Brian Linehan Charitable Foundation to provide training, work opportunities and promotion for young actors of exceptional talent. All of the income of his Foundation is donated to not-for-profit institutions for that purpose. In the decade since his death, recipients of the Foundation’s support have included extraordinary young actors affiliated with the Canadian Film Centre, The National Screen Institute of Canada, the Stratford Shakespearean Festival and the Toronto International Film Festival, which, since Brian's passing, has preserved and housed Brian's personal archive and tape library.
The more interviews I see of the young Arnold, the more I realize that this guy's success wasn't an accident.
Yes he knows what he is doing and hes both clever and charismatic.
Never doubted it
Unbelievable how he had everything under control since the beginning!
He is for real a fucking machine!
You know people used to think that Arnold had an easy way into acting because he was Mr. Olimpia etc etc but when you follow him you realize that it was his plan all along since he was 15, and he accomplished it majestically! The immigrant that everybody would want, way to go Arnold!
Arnold ist the absolute definition of success. The man went from nothing to the best, having mulitple businesses, having multiple goals and always reaching his goals.
Oh definetely, but don't forget about cheating on his wife and using great amounts of steroids. And those are the things we know thanks to the fact they were revealed.
@@jakubwrona2040 He is only human. People make mistakes.
@@Mokilla2525 Sure he is. Sure they do. And this is why in my opinion he is not a definition od success.
@@jakubwrona2040 but there are people having steroids who still dont have anywhere level of that physique. Surely you cant be naive and think if one takes steroids and trains hard they would have that physique unfortunately there is a genetic element to it.

In case anyone doesn't remember, Brian Linehan was an excellent interviewer. He was always ultra prepared and was so well-spoken.
Man they did interviews back in the days.
Not they, He.
The interviewer is very good.
RIP Brian Linehan. Your invaluable interviews (this one with Arnold is well researched and adeptly interviewed) and your charitible nature for providing these outstanding historical perspectives. It will do nothing but good for generations to come.
When you see that man.... You know everything is possible... Everything...
Jesus is king.
@@Norman-Bates-60 And Buddha?
Only ALLAH is King!!!!!
Isa ("Jesus") was a Prophet and Buddha is a Kafir(a Zero in front of God). Was good tp people but not God.
May ALLAH guide you to the roght Path.
@@hxhxhdnxjxjf7557there is no Allah 😂
Only if you can apply his discipline 😂
Wow the compliment Arnolds deliver at the very end. World class.
15:41 Who would 've thought Kirk Douglas being 62 at that moment almost 40 years later after this interview is still with us? Exercising works I would say..
mrworkout79 his birthday just past. It's amazing
Wow what an amazing interview honestly! This is the first I have seen of Canadian host Brian Linehan and I must say he seems extremely genuine, comfortable, and passionate about who he interviews and you just don't seem to get much of that at all today. Kudos to these uploads and I am now a Subscriber!!
U didn't get much of that back then either. It was Brian.
A very strong personality...!!!
What incredible footage! Many thanks for this gem of an upload.
Humble GOAT.
I grew up in Toronto. It's nice to see Brian Linehan.
I love Arnold. What a MAN.
amandajstar his confidence is something out of this world
Martin Luther Especially when he says he does’nt want to play himself in “superman”, lol
Usually people with massive egos (like Arnold) are smug and obnoxious, but somehow (his sense of humor certainly helps a lot) Arnold is neither, and that alone makes him a fascinating person.
Agreed 100%. Huge ego but very charming... Very rare combo
Just look how his mind operats.incredible in every way.wow
Great interview with my idol!
I saw the movie "Against All Odds" a few years ago and noticed how amazing Jeff Bridges' body looked. I now learn that the credit for that goes to Arnold!
Holy shit. I clicked this video for shits and giggles but I watched the whole thing. It was interesting. I'll be damned
What a nostalgic time capsule ! Arnie had a very memorable chapter throughout the 70’s.
Funny how Arnold said he turned down the $200,000 for a tire commercial but The Rock has one out now...just interesting because The Rock looks up to Arnold and is kind of the new action figure/ Arnold-esque figure
Arnold did numerous commercials for the Japaneses market.
@@tartgreenapple yeah those were hilarious! Part of the contract was they can only distribute it in Japan
I see why women liked Arnold. If only men of my generation were this charming and funny...
he was also very good looking let's be honest
@@shred9475He was ok and manly but I don’t like muscle guys really. They can be muscular but not body builder types.
Fantastic interview! Class acts! Really great to see!
BTW it is interresting, how close the guest and host were back in the days of 3:2 ratio. I think it affected tone of interview. It's hard to be mean while being so close.
he speaks better English then than he does now
i noticed that, too
He is an actor
Ron Happold he basically did what Sofia Vergara does today.
He sounds exactly the same.hos vocab is 10x better these days.
Да он вообще уникум без переводчика, не мычит, не запинается, талант во всем
That was a great interview. Well researched, pre internet!
Great interview. Two laid back guys.
Arnold always played the long game.
I wish i could see comments from 1979
What a dobra interview it was.
He should run for president
tell us about what it was like when you fought with your old you at terminator Genesis?
EPIC!
1970s is the classic year of bodybuilding and even life in general
why wasn't the interviewer constantly cracking jokes and referencing the president?
Good interviewer !
Lou ferrigno looks up to me like a father, so it is easy to give him the wrong advices
Franco
"The press always has 'fun' when writing about people'.
Arnold's always 3 moves ahead of everybody
Holy shit what a great interview
...and still today he thinks Sally Field is called Sally Fields. ;) good interview though.
“How Close are you to that goal?”
A:
“About as close as you are to me right now”
He was 32 here.
He even perfected his English as is evident in this video compared to five years prior
Even if his english sounds like...."beating a carpet with a tennis racket"...after eleven years in America, he can articulate himself very well!!! Respect for THAT! (Or in HIS words: Respect for SAT!) ;)
*"Hercules in New York"
Arnold-With all those Big Muscles , Never a Violent Man.he used them for a good purpose . down to earth Man.
What muscles are violent? Violent men are usually smaller weakling types
My step dad 5 foot 7 beat wemon my dad 6 foot 1 laughed at wemon
coca cola of course Lmfao
Its the before and after picture
I am thinking about my third movie in my list, by the name of "Pumping the fat". He was 36 or 35 ? Robert Howard was born in California or Texas ?
Man arnold looks really small here
off cycle
No bodybuilding to compete. So only 220 lbs
@@davidc4408only 😂
But if he's on the set of The Villain that came out in 79' they must have new that Superman 2 was in development
Bruce Jenner as Superman ?
More like "SuperQueer" hahahahaha LOL
"Get to the choppa!"
Bruce Jenner, wow lol
Katilyn Jenner as Superman?!?!? In hindsight that would have been a disaster.
way smaller no drugs here

Rajae the woman who is famous for her body 🏋️🧲💪 the strongest woman ever in the world 🌍
Dobra Dobra
I don’t care why the .com is up there Take it down. I’m watching this for Arnold not for a .com site.
At least one of them knows Sally Fields' correct name.
I’ve followed bodybuilding and Schwarz for longer than most. He’s charismatic, smart and very fortunate in the businessmen he knew who guided his career...but most don’t realize hes always also been a king sized ahole. It’s true, just ask the 20 women he groped, or Shriver, now that she’s no longer fooled by the act. But as he got more savvy, he knew how to hide the obnoxious side. Also, he DID do commercials..in Japan, knowing they wouldn’t be known here.
Groping accusations before a political campaign are very suspect. I'll bet Arnold got groped too. I have been and I'm not famous
Yes I question your statement for sure
This was in 1979 dumbass he did commercials in Japan in the 90s....
Cant he change his mind later in life? Plus he was getting millions to do commercials in Japan.
@@brankind969 I live in Santa Monica and the groping thing is true. Crazy story but the bars and restaurants in the area (especially on Main St.) have staff that talked of it long before he ran for governor. When it became public during the election, everyone was like, "Oh man, we weren't the only ones!"
Maybe not only ahole but it is amazing how he knew everything about bb, business, career.
There must be an mastermind
Schwarzenegger had a Master Plan right from the beginning
Wasn't that his dad?
Dobra, dobra… which means: it’s Good twice…
I like Arnold he should of stayed out of politics... Sort of ruined his image for me but still like him.
I hated that he went to politics because it kept him away from movies!😂
It's funny nobody seems to mention his very first movie Hercules in New York and I wasn't a very great movie it was his very first
But was this on location?
1979 comedy The Villain
RINO!!!!🦏
8:20 vision - commercial didnt fit in
Could this guy sit any closer?
😅😅 i guess cameras didn't have a wide angle at that time
not sure the weight training thing in jails has really turned out all that posititvely. there all build like brick sh@t houses but the violence is worst than ever. althought sure he had good intenshions
True. But the way the guards treat them, has a lot to do with the higher level of violence IMO
Kevin C Well prison guards are one of the occupations which has the highest number of psychopaths. Along with lawyers, businessmen and policemen
7 years later he’d marry Maria.😂
workout proteins water creatine and gamma amino acids
Arnold speaks better English here then he does today. Maybe he should get more English lessons.
riverman83 he stopped the accent removal classes cuz he noticed his accent was actually a good thing.

Look how small Arnold looks !!! Those supposed great genetics don't hold up so well when he got off the steroids.
David Orelj well he isn’t training to his maximum potential here. He was trying to be an actor, not a bodybuilder. Use your brain.
you don't lose that much size , sorry !!!!! Its shows how much steroids mean. Look at Boyer Coe. Same thing !!!
Steroids yes but that’s not the sole reason for loss of size. Arnold was an elite athlete in his prime, and no elite athlete can maintain their level without dedicating their life to their sport. It’s akin to expecting a retired sprinter to still be able to run 100m in less than 10 seconds years later
Ha ha elite athlete. Bodybuliding isn't a sport whatsoever . Its like saying a beauty pageant is a sport . CMON !!!!!!
David Orelj..... Call it what you want. But it is classified as a sport. And every top athlete takes steroids. Not just bodybuilders. Think of it this way. 99.99% of people will never be in the NFL. Just like 99.99% of people will ever be a successful bodybuilder. If steroids were banned in bodybuilding, the champ would still be the champ. Arnold took them because others took them. And if he wanted to be successful, that was the only way to go. He said himself that he lost size because, being 250lbs year round is dangerous to the heart. And he was in acting, and was told he needed to slim down.
I love Arnold. EVERYBODY does. He is always so composed and calm. He is clearly very focused on anything he does.. such an amazing career.
He is very focused on his goals.
What a brilliant, gentlemanly interview.
Totally agree Tony--- You don't see these type of interviews at these days.
I’m surprised as how well he speaks English here in 1979, when only a couple years before , he could barely speak a word of English . He really must have put in so much work learning it
Such a kind, soft-spoken interview.
Tony Lee, I couldn't agree more. I loved the setting of the interview, the
timeframe that Arnold was interviewed (1979, which not much is shown of
him), and the line of intelligent questioning by Brian Linehan. Arnold
was still in great shape, and was very calm and confident. Loved the
entire interview! P.S. Whatever became of "Pumping Iron Behind Bars?"
P.S.S. As fate would have it, the questions concerning Jackie O and
Maria Shriver nailed the future for Arnold!
7:24 rum and coke... Coco-cola... Ofcourse... 😂😂😂
9:20 We'll be back... OK, that was a spark of future :-)
Arnold is better than the Rock
The rock is like Great value
Arnie is like Fiji
when u have an intellect that works for u regardless of circumstance u are thrown into ,one will turn the circumstance around and be a legend
he is really a legend and genius in his own way ,what a man of all man...
Not too mention the real estate business he had in between. He became a millionaire before becoming an actor
both men made that a GREAT INTERVEIW, ITS Like they knew eachother for 20 yrs the way they got along
Funny thing is, some actually have known the interviewer
listening to him is pretty relaxing, tbh.
Nice job. The Austrian Oak has always been and continues to be the true King of the bodybuilders
Arnold is Superman!!
The S is for Schwarzenegger! 💪🏻❤
It would have been hilarious if Buce/Katelyn Jenner got the Superman part 😂
he would been 31 32 here would been great to meet him back in day
What a great interview...!!! 😁🔝👍
I didn't expect this to be as good as it was! 🤔...🔜...👌
Aaaah that 70’s hairstyle......nowadays it’s a fro lol
Знал бы Шварц здесь, что через четыре года один только фильм сделает его супер-мега знаменитым.
I don't care what everyone say's about Arnold, he's an inspiration.
Later in life he sounded and sounds, a lot more Arnoldy.
