    Great job Paul. I have done the same job but I prefer the black waxoil. It looks like new once done and I use a garden spray to apply it after heating the waxoil up with a portable heater

      I've had that tin of clear for years. It refuses to run out 😆

    Excellent work. I had mine done 12 months ago. With a Dinatrol treatment. He did an excellent job. Had the car for a week. 201 1XKR .Well worth it as we live on the coast so much sea/ salt air

    Great work. I think the sub frame looked about right for the age of the car. Hopefully it'll now last a lot longer, seeing how you look after cars. Another satisfying job done.

    Thanks for another great vid. You give confidence to people less spanner-tastic than yourself. Keep it up!

    Another great video. People read that these cars are constructed of aluminium, think that rust isn't a potential issue and don't take care of the subframes

      The X100 (1996-2006) generation of XK8 XKR used aluminium front sub-frames but with steel brackets. It was proabably the only part of the underside that didn't rust (ask me how I know). After several years of welding and continuous rust proofing I think I may finally have a fairly rust free X100 XK8 - it certainly never goes out in the rain now!

    I’ve done that job too! Did you wonder what the additional unused clips about 6 of them on the front semi circular undertray, set well back from the leading edge in a semi circular pattern were? I wondered if they were for attaching additional aero pieces on an XKR or XKRS…

    At 7:01, you take a red-handled screwdriver to some fixings. Could you tell me what type and dimensions they are, and what do they screw into exactly? Many thanks in advance.

      Hi there just a couple of screws holding the tray up. Might be 10mm bolts on your car. Mine went missing so they have big self tappers in. If you watch my oil change video you will see better 😊

    Would you not consider spraying the subframe(s) with Hammerite smooth once you have cleaned and used a rust treatment?
    I did this on a second hand towbar which not only looked brand new but still looked the same when my car was on a ramp several years later 😅⁶

      Yes, that would certainly do a good job. To be honest, anything that offers protection from the elements is better than nothing 👍

    Hi Paul - apologies a side not , I have seen your comment on a pulley belt tensioner issue- can you just replace 1 tensioner or do you need to replace them all plus belt thank you

    • @life_on_cars
      @life_on_cars  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi . When the belt is off spin the tensioner and idlers by hand to listen for bearing noise. Any suspect should be replaced

    • @peterkent2138
      @peterkent2138 ปีที่แล้ว

      For the extra small cost it is always worth replacing all the parts while they are accessible. Nothing worse than having to go back in a few months down the line for a single idler bearing. @@life_on_cars

      Hi if you wire brush then give subframe a coating of a product called Vactan then apply a further coat of Dinatrol or Waxoil you will be amazed at the finish leale Vactan until dry and you will have a lovely black surface of cured rust to apply your top coat of Dinatrol.
