    My MOT flagged my rear wheel bearings on my XKR, so it's pribably just the diff. Nice to know actually that it's probably fine. I had my floorpans welded up a few years ago as those had rotten through. I was told on the forums that second layer was just welded on during manufacturing to hold the chasis or something in transport. Jaguar never took it off making a rust trap. I daily drive mine, the wheel arches are rusting and so are the sill corners. There is an oil leak from the oil cooler pipes which I need to get sorted but I can't seem to find any good replacement hoses other then ancient Jaguar parts. I figure I will keep daily driving it until I figure it's time to retire it and replace it with something aluminium so I don't have to worry about the fucking rust so much.

      It is always worth checking a hydraulic hose place ie they service hydraulic stuff jcb etc, and see if they can make you hoses, they often can exceed what you need and at half the price you expected. worth a try.

    • @Punisher9419
      @Punisher9419 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@danstewart8218 Yea I was put in touch with one such company by the garage I use. The problem is I would have to take the ones I have on at the moment off to have new ones made which isn't really possible considering the car is my daily driver. It's a shame no one sells off the shelf aftermarket hoses of such quality because I would just buy them right away even if they where expensive. I would buy the OEM ones from jaguar directly but the prices are insane for 20+ year old hoses that will likely fail soon after installing.

    The suspected brake switch and cruise control (Cruise not available) can often be due to low battery voltage if the car has been standing more than a few days. With a fully charged car battery sometimes the issue is gone.

    You repaired the front chassis in my XKR quite a few years ago and you also did the rear chassis rails too! I did one of the floor sections as the other had already been done. I have also had the brake pedal fail. Having owned it for about 10 years and added about 50k miles, I think I have hit pretty much every one of the common issues 😞 Currently working through the rear arch and back end rust repairs. Still love the car though.

    That brake light switch is a regular problem, and yes it will prevent the cruise control from working.
    The switch is up top, the first stage of the fix is to hold a rag up around the pedal shaft anda absolutely lather it with silicone spray, this did it for mine and it worked for the 2 years I had the car. The second fix involves removing the switch, drilling a little hole and filling it with spray. I cannot remember were to drill, but Google it,its a regular problem. 3 fix is buy a new one....

    Tom, I've seen worse interiors than that. Women are the worse for looking after cars. Just be thankful you haven't found a pair of used knickers! We usually tell customers to clear out everything in their cars before repairs & only 2% do so we charge extra for the time. Just a question though on the rust, would that be from gritting the roads & moisture in the UK? We tend not to see it much in Australia but you do get rusty floor pans if a vehicle has been driven on a beach.
    I still think that Jag is repairable, ready to be given a new lease of life. I'm glad you've gone over it to show people what can happen.

    Typical Jag DNA. From the MK2 all Jags have had double and treble skin dead air internally unprotected raw steel sections that rot at double and treble speed. To paraphrase Winston Churchill , "Never in the history of mankind has so much gone so rusty so, quickly and so completely" The cutting out rust and welding new metal in is easy and enjoyable. Removing the seats and carpets and protecting the interior and glass from grinding and welding sparks is a pain as is removing all the suspension and brakes and supporting the engine. Then you have all the electrical sensors and junk on a modern ........ all sourced from Joe Lucas ...... Prince of Darkness. Give me a 1960s Jag any day.
