The dark continent surrounds the islands. Could the dark continent actually be part of a massive dormant volcano?
Maybe they do get there and King is just after something to make him self immortal, like Beyond tells him "hey we will kill off your heirs on the way there, but then you stay King forever and no kids around to throw a fit", so much juicy story to work with, can't wait!
We never get to another Nen-Video im afraid. Liam is not just feeling it.
Even though many BASIC Rules of Nen are misunderstood or underexplored, and dont get me started on the Representation-Problem Transmuters has (which Togashi may not even realize cause he never attains feedback ever) theres so much to talk about. H-ck, diont even know Liam's Nen-Type

The amount of content you can out about the anime is testament to how creative and flexible it is. It's a shame Togashi is struggling to finish it😢

I don't think anyone expects this series to be completed any time soon. At least in Berserk it was slowly heading towards its final stages. But the princes on board are nowhere even near any shore. I'm not holding out my breath here.
I like the concept of them getting to the dark continent and having rivals facing a common enemy. Imagine Kurapika, Chrollo and Hisoka fighting a Meruem-level boss.
I can see Hisoka working with them, Because his character is really flexible and unique, but no way Kurapika teaming up with Chrollo lol

I disagree with the other commenters here, I could absolutely see that happening! Honestly, I think taht might be where this whole plot is be going! Chrollo might be the only 4th way out, able to copy the plan of someone else, in which case I could absolutely see Hisoka and Kurapika hitching a ride with him chasing down Beyond, Ging, and Pariston on the dark continent. Afer all, Kurapika and Hisoka are both unwilling to let Chrollo live while they die, so if the spiders have a way off, the two of them will do anything to follow them.

I never realized the funneling of power into the burial chamber/Seed Urn and how the human sacrifice aspect plays into it. It gives me the same vibes as the nationwide transmutation circle in Fullmetal Alchemist.

There is already a precedent in the series for scaling power to human sacrifice, via Nanika's wishes (albeit backwards). Making a blimp carrying billions of zenni fly over and open up took 67 sacrifices. Illumi postulated that healing Gon - were it not for Nanika doing it for free - would cost tens of thousands of lives. And that feat was said to be a literal match to the amount of power that Gon had used to turn Pitou into strawberry jam.
But that is STILL only a tenth of the amount of power the new king of Kakin, and successor to this "plan" would inherit. We're talking Post-Rose Meruem levels of nen power if the conversion factor is the same.
Do remember the power isn't for the inheritor, it's for the nation. The surviving king will just be a vessel for keeping Kakin on a power rise
I genuinely hope togashi leaves a high majority of the manga art to his team and he can focus on mainly writing the plot while also providing basic art direction/blue prints; of course it won't be the same but the burden is too heavy on the poor guy. Wishing the best for him
at this point Togashi should do a hayao miyazaki approach and just do the storyboards and have his assistants perfect it for him

It breaks my heart every time I watch an HxH video, the lore is so deep and meticulously crafted the groundwork is almost finished for a potential arc that would redefine the shonen genre, yet we will never see it happening, the only saving grace is that One Piece exists.

Edit: the one, indirect, responsibility one could say he has is bringing his own vision to life. This vision includes him doing story AND art. Asking him to do something different means asking him to not create the thing he wants to create...and that will lead to an even bigger disappointment than not getting to see the end, because the quality drop would be abysmal.

The other theory is that the sacrifice of Princes in the Succession War won't be completed. The Phantom Troupe's original plan was to rob the Kakin royal family of their treasures- *which would include the Seed Urn* that started this whole Nen-powered battle royale. The Spiders have since prioritized killing Hisoka, but they keep looking for ways to get to Tier 1. Throw in other things happening on the Black Whale, like Morena and the Hei-Ly going on their rampage, and it makes one wonder what would happen if the Seed Urn was stolen, lost, damaged, destroyed, etc. Kurapika is also looking for a way out to save Prince Woble.
Can we just talk about how much of a power move it is to name your child BEYOND??

You know, it'd definitely be interesting if Nasubi had such a traumatic experience in the last succession war that he's attempting to make sure there's never another one by getting rid of the royal family of the Kakin Empire and the Seed Urn all in one go.

That scene is what made me really respect Nasubi. He's not just some fat royal partying and eating all the time (unlike one of his kids). But it does mean that if he's truly sacrificing not just 13 of his kids but even himself for the Seed Urn, he's also resolute enough- _terribly resolute_ -to sacrifice all those aboard the Black Whale if this theory is true.

If the king ur another character plans to make it look like an accident at least they would have a way to let the few survivors of the "tragedy" to escape safely.

My personal theory is that he does have the immortality disease, and it's so good at keeping him alive that he wants to go to the dark continent to find something that can kill him. Kind of dramatic, but it makes the most sense to me

I Just read yuyu hakosho to understand HxH better. The DARK continent is only shown in very few chapter couse togashi got rushed and also wansnt allowed the freedom of writing. That is actually a fact that Supports the idea that the DARK Continent in HxH was planed!!

I just finished the HxH manga today, and I am excited for the future of HxH’s story now. Also, this is a great theory, it seems really possible that this is the King’s Plan

I feel like the sacrifice also depends on willingness as Nen has a lot to do with willpower. Gon's willingness to sacrifice his future is much more potent then sacrificing non willing indivivudals. No easy way to quantify this though or know if power of sacrifice is also reduced with time (though it probrably is lost over time, requireing more sacrifces iin order to make up for it). Great video.
Counter theory: If this theory does NOT end up happening, then my imo the other great twist option is to have the whale simply arrive on the shores of the dark continent. That way we have demonstrations of all the threats that await but without having to lose any significant characters at first.
Also, does anyone think that the succession war will be won by anyone other than Wobl/Seri?
Honestly, Togashi could wrap up the story without ever reaching the dark continent. Kurapika, Leorio, Hisoka and the Phantom Troupe are all on the ship, so their stories can be wrapped up right here.

An ending isnt even satisfying knowing the potential the story had, if not for togashi’s health, i, and many others believe that the story has a length and potential equals, if not better than that of one piece, so giving us an ending without a proper story is just not it, regardless tho, we did get a half-assed ending incase something happens to togashi

No matter if we get there or not and with so many plot points and characters to get a satisfying ending it's damn near impossible to happen at this point but I've always been hopeful and optimistic so who knows never say never
a thought or two: kakin empire will have a "new" ruller, i.e.: a new ruller in body only
or the old emperor will return being the "only survivor of a dark continent expedition where everyone perished but alas he was gifted with a very long life", very sad. (he sacrifice all his children to stay alive longer, if not immortal)

I have a theory, that Battle royale is not about choosing the next king but about choosing which of the children is the best reseptacle to be the king's new body, always being a way to make the first king live forever occupying the body of the winner
Let's not forget that Ging has now appeared. Though we don't kniw his motives, he's definetely setting up conditions for some type of nen to be used (he's considered 2nd in command even if it's in name only). Pariston is feeling new emotions, like hate, for the first time. Ging may just be the unpredictable power thatnruins everything Beyond worked for. He's also on thr ship, we just don't know where. So as much as this may be the plan, Ging knows something and is putting the chess pieces together.

My best theory for still being intended to get to the dark continent is that it seems like the natural thing to progress towards. The entire philosophy about being a "hunter" is that u should be prepared enough in any case like u shouldn't become "the prey" when in a high risk situation with a lot at stake. Such a situation was already teased in the chimera ant arc, but u could also apply it to the characters' struggles with each other (being the dominating species/group/person). Basically the philosophy of mankind's dominion over others/each other. Dark continent would have been the perfect place to give our characters the reality check that essentially every crazy thing that has happened so far in the series/manga is still very minute compared to the dangers of the dark continent. Kinda like what GoT should have been with the white walker situation being bigger than any of the crazy games for power that had happened in the kingdoms south of the wall. Add in togashi's writing for character-driven narratives in a setting like that and we could have gotten some one piece level shit. Swear togashi should just do what One is doing with murata for one punch man
Assuming we get to that point, I could see the next arc being hunting down Beyond Netero after he escapes the ship
What would be a bigger heist than taking the "rulers" reward of the nen circuits as the phantom troupe, i could totally see Chrollo stealing it

I'm wondering what the absence of Kacho's dead body is going to do to the sacrificial ceremony though. As Kurapika said, the whole thing is probably based on a delicate equilibrium, hence why there are so many guardrails in place like the inability to leave the ship without dying. So a big upset like Kacho's body being lost might have cataclysmic consequences.
It's possible that the ceremony accounts for that (her body would be carried back by the mysterious hands that killed her) but when we see her dead body, the hands have disappeared and she's still on the raft that supposedly left the boat by that point. So it's also possible they lost the ability to use her body forever in which case the King's plans are already screwed and the succession war will likely fail. How would that affect Beyond's plans?

I feel like the whale is a Griffithesque sacrifice for the new king, that will be the main crutch of the story, and he Zodiacs chasing Beyond down on the continent or saving the whale is their story. I can see Ging, Beyond and maybe Pariston escaping it all for the continent in the chaos.

I thought King Nasubi's goal was to colonize the new continent, not the Dark Continent. Because, remember, there's a whole other continent still within the range of the human world.
I most likely have to reread those chapters, but I could swear that there was something said about once they get to the new continent, the Kakin royalty were going to disembark.

Sadly I don’t think we never get there , and furthermore I would like to think that this devilish plan would never be accomplished for a very simple reason, three in reality, that is the presence of
1)Pariston, which I think would fight back Beyond because if the association is gone he will have no more toys to play.
2)Ging, which we all want to admire in his maximum potential who could even surpass Netero in my opinion.
3) Hisoka , just because is Isoka and can’t hold himself from fighting the strongest opponents.

The best winner for this whole thing is prolly the baby prince. Not only would this infant receive pity, it would also receive all the resources and care he needs to thrive without any form of scrutiny
I have a theory in my head that the current HxH world is actually in a state similar to what Meruem wanted to bring about. Were a King of all organisms has allowed humans their own space to prevent them from facing the dangers of the dark continent. And humans being unaware are trying to open a can of worms that they have already been saved from.
I like this, bit I think it somewhat disregards some of HxH's themes. Meruem was never going to win/be king. Even before the Rose, humanity had the Ants in checkmate. The Rose was a weak nuclear weapon. The nations of the world decided to LET the hunter association try to deal with things in a manageable way so as to not cause chaos with an impending nuclear war/disaster. By fighting Netero, Meruem signed his own death warrent. There is somewhat of a theme that the whole of humanity becomes a malicious terrible force, even though the greatest among them, as individuals, are nowhere near reflective of that. You have powerhouse individuals like Netero, Chrollo, Ging, Pariston, Hisoka, and even Meruem himself, and almost everyone I mentioned was either riddled with negative traits or selfish to the core, with some it's both. But their "evils" as an individual are NOTHING compared to the evil that is HxH's world as a whole, and their powers are the same. None of them are surviving a nuclear blast. I imagine the Dark Continent is simply a macrocosm of the same.
