There's something bittersweet about the fact that Togashi created one of the most interesting and unique worlds in fiction (in my opinion) and then proceeded to only scratch the surface of it before revealing that the entire world we were aware of is essentially just a small remote island on a lake that is surrounded by a much bigger and crazier world.
I think that's the point though. His restraint makes the world feel huge. There's so much in the HxH universe that we've been getting introduced to since the beginning that we know so little of. Because the real world is vast and unknowable.

Kurapika's ability is a very special one, not everyone can just come and restrict someone, no matter how strong. there is a huge price to pay to use that ability. I can't imagine Netero bothering with that for the reason that he was the hunter association's president and had the intel to know Beyond's location at any time. Beyond wouldn't sail there knowing his dad knows all his moves. also Beyond truly respected his dad and his words.

Honestly I think Togashi does a bit of both: some elements are made up and adapted as things go along while others are pre-planned and set in stone. I think beyond is in the latter category.
@@Govakhelsborne you're correct. Even during the hunter examination arc kurapika states that he believes killua killed someone due to some form of hypnosis done by illumi. Later, in the chimera ant arc, you find out the hypnosis was in the form of illumis needle. This is set up way in advance

@@MerchHunterRicky He didn't have judeo-christian aligned morals, as most characters in HxH don't. This is a separate world with a separate set of morals. Killua and Gon are monsters as well, and very few characters see the world in a way aligned with our compass in the real world. This is all deliberate by Togashi, as he likes to explore how people would actually be molded by what happens to his characters. So netero didn't allow bad people to exist, he just couldn't see how those things were bad in the first place.

Beyond even manipulated and convinced Ging to have a child with a random woman and to leave the child with his cousin in order to motivate him to become a Hunter, learn Nen, and look for him thus the reason why we have a series in the first place
Balsa islands (NGL and the Gorteau’s) are on Yorban (the far south west continent). Kakin is the southern area of Azian (which is the north east continent) so they are not the same area. They’re continents are almost exactly opposite in placement actually. Also, the other continent Bun-ji Güem contains the properties of rubber and gum.
That Anita girl was undoubtedly supposed to be a "tie in", connecting Gon and Killua to the inevitable "D2" drug manufactured by Gyro in NGL. They're going with a different strategy this time I suppose lol.
@@matt8258 mangaka (this one included) have ideas set out years ahead of current timelines, so would it be such a suprise to think that Gyro wasn't a character in the back of his mind all these years? I've written books with characters that I've conceived since my time in highschool that never get to see the light of day until a decade later. He's been thinking about this for a very long time.
@@matt8258 I'm pretty certain he does in fact. He wrote the original, he definitely gets a say to some degree or at the very least he green lit it in some way. Perhaps he or the writing team at the time, thought the route the manga was taking was no longer as desirable. I don't know why you would have doubts about that when it's entirely plausible. Often time liberties are taken towards the anime adaption and changes to the route of a story happen all the time, I mean even in the current anime adaption, Gyro's situation is different. Clearly they are still thinking this through regarding changing how his story is told vs the manga. There has to be a reason for that at this point, definitely more likely than not.
Togashi usually is capable of delivering plot twists and such unpredictible outcome. But what if Beyond (assuming he is immortal) simply want to find something in the Dark Continent that can kill him... like the prospective of living forever could be sweet but also terrible. I don't mean Beyond want to die NOW. But I assume he would really like to have an escape plan for the life when he will reach the point where keeping to live is just a pain in the a. In alternative Beyond could be truly be a "good guy" and he is aware of something (not Something) that already reached the human world and he has no way to deal with without the resources of the DC.

@@YataVSTheWorld Indeed, the manga itself makes a very clear point of saying that Zobae disease actually sucks, and the way it gives immortality is not worth it. For all we know, Beyond may be suffering physical agony 24/7 and was forced to make his body super strong just to counter-act the pain a bit. It would make him the opposite of Kurapika, who has less years to live than a normal man and yet gained power from it.
I don't think Beyond is completely evil or just another villain of the story. He goes in line with how his father thought, he seeks new adventures and challenges and he is not obsessed with causing destruction and chaos as a way to have fun, unlike Pariston who is a complete psychopath. Even Ging said that he is there to join Beyond but not Pariston. I think Beyond realized from his journey to the Dark Continent that despite being strong, he is still not good enough to achieve anything in the continent without the help of other powerful Nen users.

One Piece's wolrd in ever expansive, with each island showing more to the world. Hunter x Hunter world has a lot of layers/levels, it's a hole that seems to get deeper the more you look.
I was thinking how Post-Rose Meruem started to seem very sprititual and reminded me of Netero's prayer. If nen was something Meta physical, it's possible to be immortal because being reborn like Kite or Camila are can be seen as a curse, the restriction being you can't be released from your mortal coil, without an exorcist perhaps.
Or it is conditional immortality, what I mean by this is once a certain condition is met probably a condition that the Zobae set as the primary goal of its hosts', once the condition is met a metamorphosis likely takes place and Zobae takes control fully.
It also makes sense with the way that Netero introduces him to the Zodiac if this is the case. He doesn’t acknowledge the creature as his actual son anymore, and that’s why he says “if anyone comes forward claiming to be my son…”
As someone who's facing transition to young adulthood woes, a good story such as HxH is a very good treat to enjoy. I am always thankful for Togashi to continue HxH and for Liam who has been making content even during hiatus.
It's an unfinished treat that with no ending and a slow pace that he will probably take to the grave all things considered, but yeah... still a good watch/read. I just wish the hiatuses would stop and he would just hand the story over to his assistants who have worked closely with him all these years.

the real issue is that the dark continent arc is basically a whole new story from the beginning, it is shaping up to be potentially as long as hunter x hunter itself but theres zero chance that is going to happen, atleast with berserk we could see the Horizon of an ending but theres just more and more being added with this we will most likely never see the end of hunter x hunter, i just want the chrollo hisoka fight to be animated one day, make it a movie or something id be happy with that.

I had a dream the other day that part of Ging's ability or requirement is to "play a game" with people. He made the game for Gon, asking Pariston or those creates in the dark continent to play with him, or game-like-wonder outlook towards society.
Too bad the fans and author aren't immortal, so you can wait forever to get to the end. I just hope it gets to where Togashi (?) the creator is and fans can be satisfied. Even if maybe there were a few more side plots that maybe he'd wrap up, as long as he's satisfied with how the main plot ends, and especially if fans are too, that'll be great.

Personally I think that Beyond’s goal with the dark continent is to force some sort of human-nen evolution. Potentially he may want to make the whole world become Nen users, or maybe even unlock some sort of new power (may or may not involve nen) for himself and other pro hunters. I think his goal is to usher in a new era of human progress. For that to happen it’d only make sense that a lot of damage and destruction will take place , so that may be why his father forbade him to visit the dark continent until after his death. Maybe I’m wrong but I’d sure love it if things go that direction.
Head canon theory. The curses that were brought back by humanity aren't infact curses but blessings. Only beyond knows this and it trying to accumulate more of them by bringing as many people from as many different places as possible (the empire with all the people on the black whale) to the dark continent so he can find them, learn of them and utilise them properly, anger-zombie soldiers from the snake that are cursed with immortality sounds pretty scary to me. Be a good fight against paristons army of ants aswell. Plus if anyone can pull off a battle like that it's togashi
Exactly, it would be interesting to think how the different Five Threats could be combined. Like, imagine a Zobae victim given to Pap the pleasure monster, it could theoretically counter the agony caused by Zobae without the host dying (bc Pap wouldn't be able to kill them no matter how much it drains). Or maybe the plant monster Brion possessed by the gaseous essence of the Ai (i.e. Nanika). That would be effectively unstoppable.
A while back I actually used zobae disease for an hypothetical usage. Pretty much I figured that if a natural manipulator of nen only used their Hatsu/nen ability to counter other manipulators. And if they were to catch Zobae and they die, nen after death would amplify said hatsu to the level that they can freely control themselves with a nen brain and gain immortality (this is just the rough draft, I got essays of the meshwork in the notes)
Immortal with the way he thinks is scary. Given that much time there's so much he could plan for It'll be interesting see what he does at the dark continent

Beyond then turned to face the other two Zodiacs, Saccho and Saiyu, who moments earlier were about to engage in a fierce fight with each other. They were now lying unconscious on the floor, defeated by some unseen force. Without a second thought, Beyond walked past the three potentially dead Zodiacs, their bodies still smoldering from the battle, and headed towards the exit. As he stepped out of the room, he was greeted by the chaotic scene of the Black Whale in flames. Walking through the corridors of the burning ship, he encountered numerous groups of passengers, each trying to save themselves from the raging inferno. Beyond ignored them all and continued his journey towards the deck, his destination beyond to an unknown destiny.

Pariston was sad he miss the fun with Netero. Netero was always aware of pariston enjoy challenge in a game. I think beyond just waited for anything bad circumstances with father to finally make a move.
At first, Beyond saying that age, gender, nationality, employment, race don’t matter, and everyone deserves an equal opportunity sound benevolent, but knowing what we know about him and his father, there’s definitely a hidden meaning. Those superficial labels may be meaningless, but that implies that something else very much is, likely strength. And an equal opportunity absolutely does not guarantee an equal outcome.
It just hit me that HxH is probably one of the biggest shounen’s to talk about drug use from Gyro’s criminal empire, one of princes’s goals to cure drug addicts and this odd filler character. It’s odd but drug use sometimes feels like a bigger taboo than killing or female assault (of any kind) in JP media, I’ve seen shows talk about drug use but it’s usually put alongside the rest like killing or trafficking.
I just thought of something although I can’t remember if hisoka’s intentions were made clear, what if he’s going to the dark continent to find something to restore gon’s talent and potential.

I think the more likely reason beyond setup the ant king to find Isaac instead of killing him himself is to avoid the potentiality of getting blown up by the poor man's rose.
The further Hunter x Hunter goes, the more I get the impression that the whole setting is intended to create the strongest humans to try and colonize the Dark Continent just to find out why it is there.
I think his first expedition to the dark continent was a scouting mission, so he could find what he was looking for and then sabotaged the expedition so the gate would take him back early.
@newworldreview I think I know what chrollo’s drawback for having the bookmark is. Maybe it’s he gets the bookmark hatsu but now the stolen abilities have a time limit in the sense that his book is now a death note so the person dies after the time limit and he loses the ability unless the ability has some extra rules
Excellent theory once again! One issue, I seem to recall that NGL and East Gorteau are located in the southern most tip of the Yorbia continent, southeast of Meteor City. However, I think the general theory as to how the ants were introduced checks out. They could have been introduced in Kakin for study 50 years ago, hence Kite believing they are native. To me, it would make more sense for the human spliced chimera ant to be introduced in NGL on the other side of Lake Mobius - also makes more sense as to how Zazan got to Meteor City- than on the same continent of Kakin, given the risks. If the King had invested into this project with Beyond, I can't see him being okay with the potential risk of Chimera Ants migrating North enough to infiltrate Kakin.
I used to know a lot about this series since its my favorite, but these days watching the videos you make, show me there's so much I don't know/remember. So many little details, about the places and kingdoms and things people said. Its always very interesting even if you ignore the speculation. I do remember the pointless mini-arc with the girl trying to kill Killua. But its ok, the zoldiek arent bad! They killed him because he was a bad person!! What a weird episode to add.... I Actually liked the even weirder (but fun) bonus exam phase. Especially the room trading.
I know I’m late to this topic, but I’ve heard the theory that Beyond isn’t actually who he says he is, idk if it’s a mistranslation or something else, but Netero mentions something along the lines of “someone claiming to be my son” will attempt to charter a voyage to the dark continent. He is over 50, and the last trip was 50 years ago, what better way to bring back some new horrible monster/creature than to have an undercover agent who is the son of one of the strongest nen users lead the most massive voyage to the dark continent.
The new format of your videos is not really informative anymore due you focus more in your reactions and jokes. I miss the old you, where you just scale through the manga and explain it piece by piece. Now its just like a comedy show. Eh
I really hope that the story is completed in his lifetime this is my favourite anime/story of all time, if this anime was as long as one piece with all the same quality of story lines togashi makes it would be goat
What makes this truly crazy is that this is probably only the 5th or 6th Last Arc in the series. If my predictions are right the succession war will end with the black whale devastated and only a fraction of the people on it able to settle on the false continent, there will be a breather Arc that shows some of what Gon and Killua are doing, then we will have the utter brutality of the dark Continent arc. After that there will be a recovery Arc as everybody gets back together. The final major arc will be all four of the main characters working with the hunter association and even some of the villains to take down Gyro. And the finale of the show will be Gon fighting Hisoka and winning.
It would make sense for Beyond’s personality and the fact that he seemingly can control the immortality disease for his nen affinity to be “manipulation”, probably at the ultimate tier. Maybe it’s something incredibly broken like being able to manipulate anything in some range around him in any way he can imagine
Beyond and Zeno and that old lady Hunter are really the only scale we have to Netero's age. And I think Zeno is still the best scale. When he was a baby Netero looked the same to him. Zeno is what, at least 60 yrs old? Is he older or younger than Beyond? We don't know. We just know that Netero has looked at least 70 yrs old for the entirety of Zenos life. So I think Netero is easily closer to 140 yrs old. If Beyond went 50 yrs ago, assuming he was at least a teenager or older, he is 70ish also. Maha/Zzigg and Don, may be the only ones who know his age. For all we know now that HxH Movie, with the evil Nen and Netero rock paper scissors thing, May be what he and Don did lol

I've written books with characters that I've conceived since my time in highschool that never get to see the light of day until a decade later. He's been thinking about this for a very long time.

@@matt8258 I'm pretty certain he does in fact. He wrote the original, he definitely gets a say to some degree or at the very least he green lit it in some way. Perhaps he or the writing team at the time, thought the route the manga was taking was no longer as desirable. I don't know why you would have doubts about that when it's entirely plausible. Often time liberties are taken towards the anime adaption and changes to the route of a story happen all the time, I mean even in the current anime adaption, Gyro's situation is different. Clearly they are still thinking this through regarding changing how his story is told vs the manga. There has to be a reason for that at this point, definitely more likely than not.
Togashi usually is capable of delivering plot twists and such unpredictible outcome.
But what if Beyond (assuming he is immortal) simply want to find something in the Dark Continent that can kill him... like the prospective of living forever could be sweet but also terrible. I don't mean Beyond want to die NOW. But I assume he would really like to have an escape plan for the life when he will reach the point where keeping to live is just a pain in the a.
In alternative Beyond could be truly be a "good guy" and he is aware of something (not Something) that already reached the human world and he has no way to deal with without the resources of the DC.
If he wanted to die he could just blow himself up or get someone to kill him. Immortality is not invincibility.

For all we know, Beyond may be suffering physical agony 24/7 and was forced to make his body super strong just to counter-act the pain a bit. It would make him the opposite of Kurapika, who has less years to live than a normal man and yet gained power from it.

I don't think Beyond is completely evil or just another villain of the story. He goes in line with how his father thought, he seeks new adventures and challenges and he is not obsessed with causing destruction and chaos as a way to have fun, unlike Pariston who is a complete psychopath. Even Ging said that he is there to join Beyond but not Pariston. I think Beyond realized from his journey to the Dark Continent that despite being strong, he is still not good enough to achieve anything in the continent without the help of other powerful Nen users.

If nen was something Meta physical, it's possible to be immortal because being reborn like Kite or Camila are can be seen as a curse, the restriction being you can't be released from your mortal coil, without an exorcist perhaps.
Or it is conditional immortality, what I mean by this is once a certain condition is met probably a condition that the Zobae set as the primary goal of its hosts', once the condition is met a metamorphosis likely takes place and Zobae takes control fully.

As someone who's facing transition to young adulthood woes, a good story such as HxH is a very good treat to enjoy. I am always thankful for Togashi to continue HxH and for Liam who has been making content even during hiatus.

the real issue is that the dark continent arc is basically a whole new story from the beginning, it is shaping up to be potentially as long as hunter x hunter itself but theres zero chance that is going to happen, atleast with berserk we could see the Horizon of an ending but theres just more and more being added with this we will most likely never see the end of hunter x hunter, i just want the chrollo hisoka fight to be animated one day, make it a movie or something id be happy with that.
If it helps, Togashi has literally never finished a manga ever lol so it was never on the table. he was and is always just going to get bored one day and abruptly end things.

I had a dream the other day that part of Ging's ability or requirement is to "play a game" with people. He made the game for Gon, asking Pariston or those creates in the dark continent to play with him, or game-like-wonder outlook towards society.
Too bad the fans and author aren't immortal, so you can wait forever to get to the end. I just hope it gets to where Togashi (?) the creator is and fans can be satisfied. Even if maybe there were a few more side plots that maybe he'd wrap up, as long as he's satisfied with how the main plot ends, and especially if fans are too, that'll be great.

Personally I think that Beyond’s goal with the dark continent is to force some sort of human-nen evolution. Potentially he may want to make the whole world become Nen users, or maybe even unlock some sort of new power (may or may not involve nen) for himself and other pro hunters. I think his goal is to usher in a new era of human progress. For that to happen it’d only make sense that a lot of damage and destruction will take place , so that may be why his father forbade him to visit the dark continent until after his death. Maybe I’m wrong but I’d sure love it if things go that direction.

Head canon theory. The curses that were brought back by humanity aren't infact curses but blessings. Only beyond knows this and it trying to accumulate more of them by bringing as many people from as many different places as possible (the empire with all the people on the black whale) to the dark continent so he can find them, learn of them and utilise them properly, anger-zombie soldiers from the snake that are cursed with immortality sounds pretty scary to me. Exactly, it would be interesting to think how the different Five Threats could be combined. Like, imagine a Zobae victim given to Pap the pleasure monster, it could theoretically counter the agony caused by Zobae without the host dying (bc Pap wouldn't be able to kill them no matter how much it drains). Or maybe the plant monster Brion possessed by the gaseous essence of the Ai (i.e. Nanika). That would be effectively unstoppable.

A while back I actually used zobae disease for an hypothetical usage. Pretty much I figured that if a natural manipulator of nen only used their Hatsu/nen ability to counter other manipulators. And if they were to catch Zobae and they die, nen after death would amplify said hatsu to the level that they can freely control themselves with a nen brain and gain immortality (this is just the rough draft, I got essays of the meshwork in the notes)

Without wasting much time, Beyond stood up slowly and locked eyes with the three Zodiacs guarding him. They tried to speak, but before they could say a word, Beyond's eyes flashed with a menacing aura, indicating his readiness to use nen. The iron gate that held him prisoner shattered into pieces, as if it had never been there in the first place.
Kanzai, the hot-headed Zodiac, couldn't stand the sight of Beyond's arrogance and impulsively launched an attack. But to everyone's surprise, Beyond shrugged it off as if it was nothing. In the blink of an eye, Kanzai was lying on the ground, his lifeless body contorted at an impossible angle.
Beyond then turned to face the other two Zodiacs, Saccho and Saiyu, who moments earlier were about to engage in a fierce fight with each other. They were now lying unconscious on the floor, defeated by some unseen force.
Without a second thought, Beyond walked past the three potentially dead Zodiacs, their bodies still smoldering from the battle, and headed towards the exit. As he stepped out of the room, he was greeted by the chaotic scene of the Black Whale in flames.
Walking through the corridors of the burning ship, he encountered numerous groups of passengers, each trying to save themselves from the raging inferno. Beyond ignored them all and continued his journey towards the deck, his destination beyond to an unknown destiny.

At first, Beyond saying that age, gender, nationality, employment, race don’t matter, and everyone deserves an equal opportunity sound benevolent, but knowing what we know about him and his father, there’s definitely a hidden meaning. Those superficial labels may be meaningless, but that implies that something else very much is, likely strength. And an equal opportunity absolutely does not guarantee an equal outcome.

It just hit me that HxH is probably one of the biggest shounen’s to talk about drug use from Gyro’s criminal empire, one of princes’s goals to cure drug addicts and this odd filler character. It’s odd but drug use sometimes feels like a bigger taboo than killing or female assault (of any kind) in JP media, I’ve seen shows talk about drug use but it’s usually put alongside the rest like killing or trafficking.

I think the more likely reason beyond setup the ant king to find Isaac instead of killing him himself is to avoid the potentiality of getting blown up by the poor man's rose.
The further Hunter x Hunter goes, the more I get the impression that the whole setting is intended to create the strongest humans to try and colonize the Dark Continent just to find out why it is there.
I think his first expedition to the dark continent was a scouting mission, so he could find what he was looking for and then sabotaged the expedition so the gate would take him back early.

@newworldreview I think I know what chrollo’s drawback for having the bookmark is. Maybe it’s he gets the bookmark hatsu but now the stolen abilities have a time limit in the sense that his book is now a death note so the person dies after the time limit and he loses the ability unless the ability has some extra rules

Excellent theory once again! One issue, I seem to recall that NGL and East Gorteau are located in the southern most tip of the Yorbia continent, southeast of Meteor City. However, I think the general theory as to how the ants were introduced checks out. They could have been introduced in Kakin for study 50 years ago, hence Kite believing they are native. To me, it would make more sense for the human spliced chimera ant to be introduced in NGL on the other side of Lake Mobius - also makes more sense as to how Zazan got to Meteor City- than on the same continent of Kakin, given the risks. If the King had invested into this project with Beyond, I can't see him being okay with the potential risk of Chimera Ants migrating North enough to infiltrate Kakin.
I used to know a lot about this series since its my favorite, but these days watching the videos you make, show me there's so much I don't know/remember. So many little details, about the places and kingdoms and things people said. Its always very interesting even if you ignore the speculation.

I know I’m late to this topic, but I’ve heard the theory that Beyond isn’t actually who he says he is, idk if it’s a mistranslation or something else, but Netero mentions something along the lines of “someone claiming to be my son” will attempt to charter a voyage to the dark continent.
He is over 50, and the last trip was 50 years ago, what better way to bring back some new horrible monster/creature than to have an undercover agent who is the son of one of the strongest nen users lead the most massive voyage to the dark continent.
The new format of your videos is not really informative anymore due you focus more in your reactions and jokes. I miss the old you, where you just scale through the manga and explain it piece by piece. Now its just like a comedy show. Eh

I really hope that the story is completed in his lifetime this is my favourite anime/story of all time, if this anime was as long as one piece with all the same quality of story lines togashi makes it would be goat
What makes this truly crazy is that this is probably only the 5th or 6th Last Arc in the series.
If my predictions are right the succession war will end with the black whale devastated and only a fraction of the people on it able to settle on the false continent, there will be a breather Arc that shows some of what Gon and Killua are doing, then we will have the utter brutality of the dark Continent arc.
After that there will be a recovery Arc as everybody gets back together.
The final major arc will be all four of the main characters working with the hunter association and even some of the villains to take down Gyro.
And the finale of the show will be Gon fighting Hisoka and winning.
It would make sense for Beyond’s personality and the fact that he seemingly can control the immortality disease for his nen affinity to be “manipulation”, probably at the ultimate tier. Maybe it’s something incredibly broken like being able to manipulate anything in some range around him in any way he can imagine
Beyond and Zeno and that old lady Hunter are really the only scale we have to Netero's age. And I think Zeno is still the best scale. When he was a baby Netero looked the same to him. Zeno is what, at least 60 yrs old? Is he older or younger than Beyond? We don't know. We just know that Netero has looked at least 70 yrs old for the entirety of Zenos life. So I think Netero is easily closer to 140 yrs old. If Beyond went 50 yrs ago, assuming he was at least a teenager or older, he is 70ish also.
