The sticker may say that you're voiding a "warranty" by opening it, but it's actually there to scare people away from finding out they didn't refurbish it

I remember years ago when I was first made aware of DK Oldies existence. They either popped up in a Google search or maybe an ebay store if they had one, but I didn't even bother checking them out because the name itself struck me as cringe and I automatically assumed they were going to be overpriced (like most dedicated gaming stores). Glad to see my assumption was accurate. Also, I'm surprised Nintendo hasn't come after them (yet) for the name/logo.

To be fair there's a lot of mom and pop video game stores that are just under the radar. The branding for a lot of these smaller shops is pretty "bad" and often borrows from Nintendo or other companies

@Jordan Marks I would have to be very desperate to buy from oldies as much as there subscribers complain about ebay they both got the same refund policy and so long as you dont buy on impulse and pay attention to what you buy its not hard to find decent sellers as they make it out to be I been buying on ebay for years now and at almost 300 reviews from sellers only like 10 where bad and as I said ebay stepped in and solved the problem right away

If you ever watch on of their shorts of them playing their different systems pay attention they use the same exact systems for the videos but when its different and they are using a random system to show a game or an example of something its always a random system thats dirty and looks extremely crappy compared to the polished ones they use for their popular videos. Its super disingenuous to pretend that you care about the quality of your products when you’re shipping out literally broken filth to the average gamer.
People either don't know or don't care about the truth and just watch for the entertainment

The disc drive grinding and eventually failing was what killed my fat PS2 in like 2003. I remember busting it open with a butter knife to retrieve Tekken 3 after I bought a slim.

I was almost gonna buy a SNES bundle of their's. But after seeing this, the NES review, multiple threads and post via social media about the poor quality, and poor PR DKoldies is doing, I changed my mind big time
I gotten games from them in great shape and a fair price. But yea they too high on gaming systems.

EVERYTHING should be in Perfect condition from the prices they charge, Good Condition can be bought elsewhere for less at least if they sold Perfect Condition no scratched games that have been thoroughly cleaned I can understand the price mark up but this is just ridiculous
I mean its expected considering how old retro games are but the confession only further validates why there prices are not acceptable and why there method of cleaning is clearly not as good as advertised I seen way to many videos showing over half the time they clean the out side slap a sticker on it and thats it wheres the take apart and clean and repair job they love advertising so much oh thats right its called acting when the cameras are on they do that but when there not on they do stuff like this 😂
I grt that no old console will be perfect, but they should try to at least make their consoles look clean and working well for use.
I work in electronics configuration and repair. When we go through an order of devices to perform QA checks, devices that pass our standards get cleaned up. All of our devices from repair get properly cleaned, configured, and QA'd. DK Oldies clearly doesn't have any sort of actual process, it looks like someone lazily saw that it worked well enough to their standards and called it a day. This would have failed even the testing phase at my job, that's phase 1.
Funny how it took all these years for people to pick up on dkoldies, always thought they overcharged for consoles that some in terrible condition. One thing people don't realize: most consoles are from eBay auctions they snipe preventing regular joe from buying it. Gamecube games have always been expensive but it was a fever dream first seeing gamecube game prices go up and beyond dkoldies price 10 years ago lol
I'm 100% sure "refurbished" to DK Oldies means "well, we bought it as junk and it still turned on. Let's just sell it as-is"
I'm guessing their "refurbishing" process consists of plugging the consoles in to make sure they work, putting stickers on them, and then boxing them up and shipping them
Good work calling this out. If I were to pay extra for a refurb I expect a refurb. I won't be buying from them.
I was planning on getting an Xbox 360 from DKOldies, but after seeing all these videos I'm not going to. Matter of fact, a game store I came by sells the same exact Xbox 360 (250gb hard drive Xbox 360 S) for $80 cheaper than DKOldies.
You could get a retro game store and get one in better condition and maybe a better price

Wow! My local retro game store sells PS2's for 70 bucks. They don't claim they are refurbished. Comes with a 90 day warranty. Brutal DK Oldies!

The PS2 that I bought at Goodwill for 20 bucks works better than that did. Plus, it had 0 dust in it. The original warranty sticker was still in tact when I opened it to check if it needed cleaning too.

Man I just got into retro gaming not to long ago, and first place I checked out was DKoldies as they were first in my search results, I also seen there tik tok shorts and they looked legit, ....but I've now seen countless videos about how overpriced and mediocre they are.....so glad to have great TH-cam gamer channels exposing places like that and saving people money.

What condition is that? I watched the entire video and it looked almost entirely fine for the most part. The back port was a little loose and the inside of the controller port was cracked (which wasn't visible without opening) but otherwise it looked okay. Rich is just being hyperbolic for the sake of making a video.

& this is why I take time to truly refurbish consoles I sell on Ebay. It is not that hard to clean them & make sure they are in working order. I want to sell something that I would want buy. DKOldies doesnt seem to understand that concept🤣
That is mind blowing to me! I literally bought a PS2 Slim off Goodwill’s online auction shop, all it said was “Turns on when plugged in but not tested further.” Came with 2 controllers, 2 8MB memory cards and controller extension cord thing, $85 not including shipping and whatnot. Everything works perfectly I was stunned. If DKOldies sold products like what I got, then I could better understand a higher price, but Rich, what they sent you was disappointing and a slap in the face for people who spend their hard earned money and receive stuff in conditions like that.
Seeing that options menus almost pop up made my heart skip a little I dreaded that.

DK Oldies makes GameStop look innocent.
The worst part about charging this much for 20 year old hardware is that it may only have a life expectancy of 6-12 months. I would have gone with a PS3 myself as its hardware would be much newer, it plays ps2 games, and still connects to the internet.
Only some if the ps3 consoles play ps2 games. Just the original fat 60gb and 20gb had backward compatibility
My friend works at the dump and gave me a ps2 he found there for free and it was in better condition, was only slightly dusty on the outside
I clean my own consoles. I takes about an hour or two to do the cleaning. This is ridiculous because they want it to be done in 10 minutes.
If you buy a retro console for basically the original price, you deserve to be scammed.
I wouldn't say that. But I wouldn't pay that much for a PS2 unless it was still sealed in the box (they aren't easy to find, and you'll probably pay more than retail price, but if you are a collector it's definitely worth it. Even more so because you can wait a few years and resale them for even more than you paid)
I don’t think so, they target little timmys and old karens with money. They just don’t know any better. They’re taking advantage of people who don’t know any better. Everyone starts somewhere, everyone has been new to things. Id like to hope if i was new to something and I didn’t know better I would be treated better.
@Braedon Lock Kids use iPhones and watch tik tok videos. I don't think they care about old PS2 systems.
The people buying them are nostalgic people, which causes the retro market to inflate prices.
@@Malgus87 i think it’s the parents that buy them for gifts not a little kid themselves. Or someone that’s like 12-14 (these kids were born with tech that’s not that crazy) i don’t think people new to something should get shafted. We all start new things in life were we don’t know anything. Id hope if it was me people wouldn’t have this sentiment towards me.
@Braedon Lock Kids have zero interest in old systems unless they are poor, and in third world countries this is entirely nostalgia buying without doing any research.
I'd like to know what DK Oldies definition of "fully refurbished" is exactly. They definitely aren't following the guidelines and standards used by other companies that sell used electronic equipment.

We should require companies like this to add sicker seals that at least show that they have been inside the consoles. I’m curious of what is the manifest, what did they fix, replace, or change?

UPDATE: It has arrived and the game is in great condition and playable! If it wasn’t in bad shape then they wouldn’t sell it in the first place.
While I was waiting, I’ve been doing some searching on here about DKOldies and many of the videos point out their “refurbished” consoles and crazy prices for their systems as well. If you’re looking to buy from them, I would go for games not a whole console set. There are other alternatives for cheaper prices (Ebay, another retro game store online, or your local store).
I'm a retro gamer so I collect all the old consoles and games. I checked out DK awhile back because a friend recommended it. I was surprised by the outrageous prices. Most of the stuff I wanted that they had where way overpriced. My local game store sells the same items at sometimes over half the price cheaper and everything is actually cleaned and tested, they even test it again in front of you if you want and give you a nice warranty

Their games are decent but their console bundles are trash
