This video has reminded me that Telecaster is the real shape of rock and roll. I've been thinking about buying a new guitar and I was looking at Strat-styles but in the end I have to be true to the spirit of Saint Joe Strummer
The Chapman guitar is the only one with body contours on the back of the guitar body. The rest has typical telecaster slab style bodies. I didn't notice it until he had the blindfold off and went through them all again but you could clearly see the difference in body shape on the back, and given his knowledge of the market he immediately recognized his own brand.

I’m pretty sure I’ve seen most of these videos, and every time he plays a Chapman, he identifies it almost right away. I found it “interesting“ that he didn’t identify it this time and then he went on to great lengths about how great the guitar was. But that’s just me being a troll and I’m sorry. I just found it curious.
at the end of the day, they need to sell guitars and gear, so i could easily cut them all kinds of slack in terms of endorsement and shady subtle undercover marketing as long as vids are so much fun
Chappers knew he was holding one of his guitars. Please. He feels the body contours, checks for the reverse headstock, and that's all it takes. You can see him do it in all of these blindfold videos.
jogr the neck joint on chapmans is pretty unique in its design, and if you look that's the first place his hand went when he was handed the guitar. He for sure knew. And just a little extra, I've owned a chapman and it was one of the worst guitars I've played in my life
@@jacobflint9359 I had two and I had loads of QC issues with the first one, which being fair could be from the way it was stored in shipping or a legitimate piece of shit, but the second one after sending it back just wasn't a great guitar to me. Everything about it was just "meh." Kinda shitty pickups, kinda shitty feel, nice neck, but felt fairly cheap, like one of those older made in India Jackson JS series or the early 2000s Squier affinities. Best analogy would be like an Ibanez gio series, but one of the better ones.
And when he was handed it, it's the only one he gripped by the edge... I'm not usually skeptical, but that was an immediate give away with it being the only carved top.
I have the strat version of that Japanese tele. Following a house move, it stayed in its case for 16 months. It was still perfectly in tune when I next played it.
That cheeky index finger feel of the headstock on the chapman..... Kinda made the compliments feel a bit hollow but who cares, I've got an ML3 and love it! Just a tad shady if you ask me
IDK, I played a few Chapman's at GC the other day and they did not impress me. The fit and finish was well under what I expected. Could have been a few bad apples, however the import PRS SE's blew them out of the water.
Chapman guitars feel cheap. And because of the neck profile and tbe carved top, apart from other subtle details, you cam recognize a Chapman guitar on a blondfold challenge easily.
I've never played a Chapman but I do know there's more than one line of them. I think if you include the original run, there are at least three and perhaps four different lines. Each of those lines is quite different in terms of price and, no doubt, quality.
James Santiago I thought the same thing. The carve top on the Chapman would give it away. So many imports (including PRS) are made by the same factories.
Marc Coté I believe I played the newest higher end line. They were both close to or over 1k. Just wasn’t impressed. The neck joint had masking tape lines on it and had some other bits that should have been better. But that’s the great part about it, anyone can buy and play whatever they prefer and can afford. No one forced me to buy it.
@@recub13 - It's possible. They seem to go up to about $1400 US, but most are around $1000. One thing is certain, there is no lack of choice for good guitars these days. I want to help shine some light onto why Rob always loves these Chapman guitars in these videos. You all need to remember that Rob has worked to make these guitars sound and feel as good as possible to HIM. Everybody has slightly different tastes when it comes to gear, and the Chapman guitar is Robs taste. I personally am not big into the Dumble sound. I'm a big Stevie Ray fan, as well as other guitarist that have used those amps. I used to have a Fuchs ODS amp at one point. I was a great sounding amp, very well made, but it wasn't MY sound. Obviously many people love/want that sound, I just have different tastes.
(sorry, very old comment, but I just happened to watch that video now). I mean sure, he designed them so that he likes them, but they're not at say top of the line Fender quality because they're not in that price range. The necks won't feel as premium (no nicely rolled edges, for example). They don't feel like $2000+ guitars, which is understandable. He knows it, but sells them as if they were. Fair game, but still.
@@A_Noid yeah then he swears on his daughters soul that he didn’t know which guitars were which..that was pretty dirty to me. I don’t know many people that would swear on their child’s soul and know it to be a lie like that. He did just that though

That upside down headstock was a give away, he knew that was his guitar. His finger went down the curve two or three times. How often did he say that was the best. I would be surprised if I play another as good as that one. BS
Rob! If Chapman guitars ever released left handed versions of the ML3 Pro Traditional us left handed guitarists will buy it! I know I'm sold, without even playing it I can say it's got to be my favorite guitar because I've watched all the videos by Andertons that included the ML3 Pro T and I must say I'm very intrigued by it! The day a left handed version is available, I'm buying one.
I don't doubt Rob loves the Chapman tele's, it's his design after all. For me, I don't want a tele that is good for hard rock, I prefer teles that are more traditional. Plus, I've seen so many videos about issues with the quality of chapman guitars I don't feel comfortable ordering one online.
The Chinese made guitars can be very good. I was shocked when I had a look at a Takemine guitar, played it a while, decided to buy and the shop owner said it was made in China. I bought it and it is a lovely instrument.
Yeah he definitely knew which one was the Chapman. In fact, I think trying to hide it looks worse because it's his own brand so he SHOULD be able to pick it out, especially with it being the only one without a pickguard, with a carved top, etc.
it was the only one with reverse head stock he felt the difference at the nut when feeling the nut right away cause he went a little past with his pointer finger if you watch. he could tell it was his! for sure i would've been able to tell right away by the bottom of the nut that it was a reverse head stock guitar and he new his was gonna be the only one with a reverse head stock on a t style model!
One of these days everyone should just leave the room while Rob is playing, and then see how long it takes before he realizes that he's all alone lol

Guys you need to do a blindfold strings test like brands and types etc
Up!
Best one yet! It’s good to know Rob loves the guitars he sells. I’m looking forward to the strat video.
He didn't know the sound of humbuckers vs single coils on his guitar tho did he?
I never thought I’d see the day that rob chapman thought a single coil was a humbucker omgggggg
This video has reminded me that Telecaster is the real shape of rock and roll. I've been thinking about buying a new guitar and I was looking at Strat-styles but in the end I have to be true to the spirit of Saint Joe Strummer
You need Godin from Canada too
Michael Cuggy agree. Fantastic guitars.
Diego Godin? He’s in Italy m8.
CHlEFFIN Godin is also a brand of high end Canadian guitars
Godin from Canada are top shelf !
Some of the nicest guitars made
This is absolutely the best music program on TH-cam
The Chapman guitar is the only one with body contours on the back of the guitar body. The rest has typical telecaster slab style bodies. I didn't notice it until he had the blindfold off and went through them all again but you could clearly see the difference in body shape on the back, and given his knowledge of the market he immediately recognized his own brand.
So every T type in the entire world except for the Chapman is a slab body?
Player Plus Teles have a belly cut and are mim
When you do these challenges in the future can you put on the screen what guitar is what. I’m no musician just enjoy the videos and can’t tel the guitars apart. Cheers.
I think Lee took Joey's acting class: "A lot of acting is RE-Acting".
Oh man, Rory, you are the best! 😂
Seeing the joy on Lee's face on this one is great.
Next time do one called 'Guess Which Rain Forest The Wood Comes From".
Gordon Smith 'T' Style guitars are made in the UK and are absolutely AWESOME
yay, it feels like there hasn't been a video like this in a while. THANK YOU!!!!!
Chappers knew he was holding one of his guitars. Please. He feels the body contours, checks for the reverse headstock, and that's all it takes. You can see him do it in all of these blindfold videos.
Two minutes in, and the editor is already the Real MVP. :P
Rob manages to advertise his brand even whilst blindfolded!
Love Rob, but let's be serious, he knew that first one was a chapman lmao
jogr the neck joint on chapmans is pretty unique in its design, and if you look that's the first place his hand went when he was handed the guitar. He for sure knew. And just a little extra, I've owned a chapman and it was one of the worst guitars I've played in my life
@@ellisscott9840 really whys that?
@@jacobflint9359 I had two and I had loads of QC issues with the first one, which being fair could be from the way it was stored in shipping or a legitimate piece of shit, but the second one after sending it back just wasn't a great guitar to me. Everything about it was just "meh." Kinda shitty pickups, kinda shitty feel, nice neck, but felt fairly cheap, like one of those older made in India Jackson JS series or the early 2000s Squier affinities. Best analogy would be like an Ibanez gio series, but one of the better ones.
can you guys go back to when you filmed the selection process in the store? it was really enjoyable
Whoever edited this, awesome work - well done.
Tea - Coffee ... instaliked just for the pun!
Great video, spot on I think. Country of origin doesn't matter, how it's made does and there are a lot of capabilities out there in various countries.
Not to be that guy, but isn't the Chapman the only one with a carved top....?
And when he was handed it, it's the only one he gripped by the edge... I'm not usually skeptical, but that was an immediate give away with it being the only carved top.
yeah, and the only one without a neck plate..... and one of the few with a belly cut...... and 1 of 2 without a pick-guard. He's full of shit.
Just a tad shady if you ask me
He clearly knew it was the Chapman, and they knew he knew (hence the zoom)
@@lptomtom exactly, so when he stared to pretend he didn't know; it made the compliments less sincere
he did it on every guitar ...
If you buy a Chapman guitar you are an idiot.
19:18 *Lee* that was brilliant quick thinking response and a jedi mind trick at the end - cheers!
When I was starting out if you wanted something good it was Fender or Gibson. Unless you wanted a hollow body or some weirdo guitar. Today... Ibanez, PRS, Suhr, ESP... and so on.
The cutaway under the neck on the chapman is a dead giveaway. 4:45 he immediatley feels it.
This video is the last of including Chapman’s I hope, throws the whole thing off
Whether these videos are pointless or not..............They are just simply brilliant! Cannot wait for the next "Blindfold Challenge"! Plus "how can you not like a good nut job"!!!
A little too much of Chapper's hamming it up with his guitar. No one's buying he didn't know it was a Chapman.
Wow, Rob is usually spot on. Love these videos very entertaining.
Sorry but there is no way Rob couldn't tell that the first guitar he was holding a Chapman. He can smell every Chapman ever made within a meter radius.
I didn't realize that Chapman made a tele style guitar, cause I gotta say I am really digging that guitar. Especially the color with the matte finish. I also learned from this video that S. Korea makes really good guitars because I really like both Chapman and Reverend guitars.
You guys are the best, your videos never disappoint. Keep up the good work!
Whoever does the editing on these deserves a raise.
Excellent idea. I would like to see some Brazilian made guitars under your scrutiny as well.
Really like this video. The message is: Go play a bunch of guitars when shopping and find something that YOU like and gives you confidence. It will make it fun and encouraging to keep picking it up, especially when learning. ✌🏻🎸🎼
clunky and sharp were very successful indeed in the mid to late 80s ,until clunkys death in early 89 ,after he was found dead in a new york back alley having choked to death on his own cardboard. the funeral was attended by dozens of adoring fans ,and the epitaph was read by sir elton john. sharp went on to write music for popular tv shows such as countdown and john cravens newsround !!!.
You thought the ML3 was a Custom Shop Tele yeah? Bloody hell.....Lee is totally right in that you keep going on about it too much. You sound desperate to get it either acknowledged or sold.
haha it doesn't help their track record of promoting it extra hard
For everyone calling out the carved top on the ML3, G&L also have a arched top ASAT
It’s gloss though, I used to play one. There truly aren’t a lot of satin, non guard, modern, carved T-style guitars in mass production that a store like Anderton’s would just have on hand
I've got a blindfold challenge idea:
The Flying Ninja Monkey Blindfold Challenge
Not music or guitar related - just stick Rob in a blindfold and make him go through an obstacle course for our amusement.
That first part was definitely just a chapman marketing exercise 😂😂
Gotta love Rory! These edits always crack me up.
Rob’s laugh after the captn said Kenya! 😂😂😂 brilliant
The country of origin has very little to do with quality of the guitars nowadays. It has however very much to do with how much workers are payed.
Loved this video guys. Chappers you’ll kill the next challenge mate. Keep these going.
The thing is, traditional Teles are amazing for hard rock.
Like the Fender American Original Telecaster
The Chinese made guitars can be very good. I was shocked when I had a look at a Takemine guitar, played it a while, decided to buy and the shop owner said it was made in China. I bought it and it is a lovely instrument.
Yeah he definitely knew which one was the Chapman. In fact, I think trying to hide it looks worse because it's his own brand so he SHOULD be able to pick it out, especially with it being the only one without a pickguard, with a carved top, etc.
Very enjoyable video and not because Rob was finally dethroned from being perfect, but rather in showing that fine guitars are being made everywhere.
The Chapman is easy to pick out as it has a carved top none of the others do !! !! !!
The only one with the belly cut as well.
it was the only one with reverse head stock he felt the difference at the nut when feeling the nut right away cause he went a little past with his pointer finger if you watch. he could tell it was his! for sure i would've been able to tell right away by the bottom of the nut that it was a reverse head stock guitar and he new his was gonna be the only one with a reverse head stock on a t style model!
Canada!! Shoutout to Godin, Seagull, Simon and Patrick, Norman, La Patrié, out of Quebec.
John von Atzigen Garrison RIP
I think trying to guess country of origin while blindfolded is like trying to guess the colour. Great video!
No the Mexican burst(35:55) was the one you thought had the fat neck(20:48), not the American. 36:08
American Fenders don't file the nut down to the edges. Their bone nuts go over on both sides, but are made smooth. Feels nice.
he felt that unique shape on the cutaway of his guitar briefly with his pinky then went into full sales mode
