fun fact: House of Anubis is actually Dutch (from Belgium). It was a success in the Netherlands and Belgium, so they made the series in English (and in german). The name of the serie in Dutch is: Het Huis Anubis.
They also made the series in german.

Melly B. Well I went to a boarding school and you were not allowed a lot of stuff. So we were limited to 1 case or foot locker style case for our belongings. So it is a far cry from college.
When I went to boarding school i only took one suitcase - when i left i had four

I moved to another country with one suitcase. The bag’s pretty expandable so I guess it fitted all what I wanted to bring.

That’s because it was not an American production (it was Dutch and i had no idea it was known world wide before i saw this video)
I still remember 3 first seasons in good way. 2 season was more serious and as a kid i liked that. 1 was good and sometimes funny or serious coz once Patricia was kidnapped. I don't like that the main character had changed and like everyone forgot about Nina.

Yeah, the show did so well in Dutch speaking countries that it got dubbed to be shown in Scandinavia and got both a German and American remake. I'm from Sweden and I used to watch the dubbed version every day, when I was younger, until it got cancelled here. I was so obsessed I contemplated learning Dutch just so I could finish the show lol.

So....House of Anubis is a remake of the Dutch/Belgium series 'Huis Anubis'. Love the show as a kid, but I can see why it's a bit weird to foreign audiences... The original version is quite a lot better.

@@anamerida2618 There was somewhat of a cult running inside the school's staff - ever since the founders - and to sum it up a lot, they believed Joy was the "chosen one" who would be the only person able to unlock this supposed treasure that the house hid, since she was born at 7 p.m. of the 7th of July. However it turned out that Nina was said chosen one, as she was born in the exact same day as Joy but at 7 a.m.
To elaborate more on @Moonlight Victor(The boring house owner) had a vile that was giving him eternal life this whole time but was running out. He and the other teachers were going to use Joy because she would be sacrifice to Anubis the God of death to make the elixir permanent. They stopped him tho and thereafter went off topic for another 2 seasons. Heck Nina got replaced in Season 3😂😂😂

Fun fact: The original "Het Huis Anubis" is from the netherlands and was such a huge hit that several countries adapted it with their own actors. The story is the same (At least I noticed all the names are the same and and the story is the same to the German one)

I haven’t watched it for like 7 years but I clearly remember a plot twist where the evil mask was the fake mask in the display case the whole time. Idk what the mask does but I remember being so surprised and scared when Nina’s eyes turned red
I will never forgive season 3 for splitting up Jerome and Mara with Jerome cheating on Mara after two seasons of build-up involving a character arc of Jerome becoming a better person. However, the Jerome and Joy pairing that came afterwards was nice.

I agree they spent the entire first two seasons building the relationship between Jerome and Mara just to end it a few episodes into the third season. Which I found very odd as Jerome’s crush on Mara was a major storyline in the first two seasons and it was an extremely popular ship among fans. I disagree I found Jerome and Joy’s relationship to be too forced and random. They never really interacted prior to season 3 and Jerome didn’t care about Joy when she was missing in the first season at all. If I remember correctly Jerome and Alfie made jokes about her disappearance quite a few times in season 1 and talked about Joy in a negative way until season 3.

I honestly don’t know what to think about this version of Anubis. It’s just way more focused on kids while the Dutch/Belgian Anubis is more serious and mature.
It literally felt like i was watching a kid’s show and I didn’t have the same feeling with Het Huis Anubis.
House of Anubis = a show made for kids.
Het Huis Anubis = labeled as a kids show, but adults who’ve never seen it can actually enjoy it without feeling like they’re watching a kids show.
House of Anubis ruined so many characters & relationships i loved in the original.
[examples:]
- Joy is annoying as fuck, the Dutch Joyce is such a sweetheart.
- Nina is way too overexcited and her acting is a bit forced. Our Nienke is way more calm.
- Amber & Alfie were just straight up toxic. Amber demanded too much and treated him as her slave.
Amber & Appie treat each other with the same energy and they were a great duo!
- We didn’t get to see much of Joy & Patricia’s friendship in HOA which is sad.
Our Joyce and Patricia had so many lovely scenes together in the show and they were literally inseparable.

True and honestly the British/ American version ruined all the characters in some way.
•Nina was made into an awkward mess who constantly looked for trouble and took her friends for granted instead of the kind hearted shy new girl who was thankful to be accepted at her new school and to have great friends and trouble always found her that we saw in the other versions
•Fabian was made it a social awkward and down right depressing character instead of the lovable nerd.
•Amber was made into a self centered stereotypical dumb blonde instead of the fun loving fashion queen.
•Alfie wasn’t made even more immature than the original character who was too clingy and needy. He was basically a child with no limitations instead of the lovable jokester who just wanted to make people laugh.
• Patricia was made into a whiner who was whiny about something every episode and her behavior to the new housemates was down right disgusting. The character was originally a strong independent women who only had an issue with Nienke and it was more understandable.
•Joy like you said was annoying af especially about her obsession with Fabian. Her obsession with Fabian was honestly creepy as hell. She was also too desperate for attention instead of the shy girl with a big heart who respected Fabian’s relationship with Nienke despite her feelings for him and even later had a friendship with Nienke and found true love.
•Mick was basically ignored and made into a stereotypical dumb jock who lacked any real personality traits.
•Mara was made into a stereotypical girl nerd who outside of academic achievement wasn’t that smart. Im still shocked they they never had her learn the secret until the movie. But I prefer the German version of Mara in all honesty.
•Jerome was made into an incredible toxic immature prankster who had serious mommy and daddy issues who used that as an excuse for being a bully.
You also right about them ruining all of the relationships.
Can’t deny it was my fav show when I was 8, now I’m 16 damn. The feeling of getting old hits different.

The dutch/ belgian version has such a different vibe. Nina seems so exited and bubbely, while with Nienke there was a more earie vibe.

Ned's Declassified is CLASSIC. Granted this is nostalgia goggles but it was so good.

From what little I have seen the foreign shows (like H20) were not the best. All the shows had bad acting because they were kids shows but at least they also attempted (keyword: attempted) comedy.

omg I forgot about this, this was what got me into the mystery genre and I loved it!
Very underrated show. I think the special thing is, it's a kids/teens show but they treat their audiance with respect and the made us feel like adults.

The house of anubis is actually a really big show in the Netherlands and it has lots of seasons, movies and theater shows. I really liked it when I was younger
I think most countries that didn't create their own adaptations had a dubbed version of the dutch show as well.

The original Dutch show (het huis anubis) was so popular, plopsaland De Panne (in Belgium) built a rollercoaster themed around it, the queue goes through a scaled replica of the house. It was pretty cool and what originally got me into thr dutch version of thr show
