I feel like you don’t need romance in every story but for wish in particular it was needed. Simply because we don’t have any emotional stakes for asha. She claims her family are her motivation but when do we actually see her interacting with them? her family are background characters who only show up twice for the whole film. If we had starboy and established an emotional connection between him and asha there would be stakes to be invested in. Because you see that connection form and grow attached. Moana and encanto don’t need love interests because both main characters are shown to have meaningful interactions with their families acting as the emotional stakes. Asha has none of that so needs someone to be motivation for her

Well yeah. Elsa, Moana, Merida and Encanto, don’t need those kind of elements. But for Asha, it just didn’t work this time. Rumor says creative differences is what forged wish we got today.
Let’s see what they can learn from it in the future but hope they don’t use it on characters we know and use it on newer ones.

Which is even more ironic that Magnifico and Amaya were going to be a villain couple. And considering the drafts, maybe even a healthy one, in a very twisted way. As while they'd both be evil, there was a sense of loyalty between the two, something you rarely see in most film and TV.
Would have been interesting to see Asha and Starboy start out as an extremely flawed couple with different views and not even knowing how to make there relationship work, only to kind of learn from Magnifico and Amaya, which in someway helps in the two defeating them.

I would like to point out that in Merida's case, she did say that wasn't ready to get married when her mother wanted to, and she was simply asking to be allowed to get there on her own time without parental pressure. It took time, but her mother did finally agree that it was best to allow Merida to get ready for marriage on her own time. Mirabel's story was about helping her entire family see that all the members are much more important than their gifts, and that it's important to allow everyone's imperfections.

Certainly, Disney shouldn't JUST tell love stories, or try to force them into everything, but cutting them out entirely has been a major overreaction. The magic of love is a major part of their traditional brand, and yeah, sometimes they haven't always done it perfectly, but they've always done it WELL.
Two more examples I would site would be Roger and Anita from '101 Dalmatians' and Bernard and Miss Bianca from the 'Rescuers' films. In the former case, it's not love at first sight; they're two normal, decently-attractive people who get thrown into each other's lives via their crazy dogs, build a relationship offscreen, and get married - we don't see most of that, but we may presume it was a nice, normal, sweet romance just like countless real-life examples. As for Bernard and Bianca, they're an odd-couple relationship that takes time to grow, but they're obviously made for each other, and you're cheering them on all the way - there's really no way to replicate that sort of thing onscreen via anything other than a traditional romance.

I wanted the Starboy character with Wish! It might just be because I love the dynamic “Unhuman, from other dimensions (or just a monster) and girl.” (In every type of relationship, not just romantic) so I really want a little romance in the next original Disney movie. And if I have to write it so be it!

I disagree. I am thankful they did NOT go that route because not every female character needs a boyfriend. I actually love Star as a cute little sidekick with sass. I think Wish was perfect the way it was.

    • @cookiediangelo8511
      @cookiediangelo8511 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@faliaprince9919 The whole point of this video is that while every female does not need a boyfriend, some do. Some stories need it. Relationships add feelings and depth to a story. Imagine if in tangled we instead had a female come save Repunzel. They would have a friendship. And you kno what would happen? They would probably become lezbian and live happily ever after. BEcause that story needed the relationship repuzel and flyn had.
Relationships are good. Star boy would have been so fun. I love the monster-girl dynamic as well. It makes me feel like ohh wonderful relationship, kinda secret and forbiddenc ause hes not human, and you get to see them go through the story together, and through every scene there is an undertext of them growing closer.
Moana is an example where it wasn't needed. Her and Moui's relationship didn't need to be romantic. Her character had enoguh depth that romance wasn't lacking from the story. But Asha didn't imo. Her story would have benefitted.

I think the decline of romance really started after the popularity of frozen. After that, they are superhero men who don’t need women to be happy, And vice versa with the Disney princesses. Now into today’s garbage era or shall I say flop era. Ditching romance and Overcoming conflicts together storylines That makes the movie extra special. Any man would love to see when a prince Learn from the princess he loves, And vice versa. Besides romance is the reason why Disney was financially successful, But not anymore. And for the near future, it seems to me that will slowly destroy itself and making flop movies that will kill the studio much harder than the black cauldron did in the 80s. Now male and female characters treat each other like competitive rivals instead of compromising lovers.

I think it's more of the fact that nobody wants to see the same type of romance in the movies, therefore you need to make TWO choices:
      1. Don't have any romantic sub-plot.
      2. If you add romance, you have to make it "diverse". As Disney feels inclined to represent our modern world. Therefore, use characters as a blank slate for certain audiences to project themselves onto.

Having to settle down to take care of their kids was not the actual reason that the Incredibles quit superhero work, they had to hang up their super suits because the government had a law passing to prohibit superhero activity, this was the next few days after the night of Mr. and Mrs. Parr's wedding, Violet was born the year after that event.

i have never been a romance guy, but there's one thing that i miss about romance in older movies that won't apply to new ones and that's how people react and interact with the movies and the characters, if they are taken and the relationship is good then nothing will happen, which is good, but if they are single then debates around them will be born and these debates are never good or enjoyable, some saying "oh yeah, she doesn't have a boyfriend, therefore she is a lesbian/asexual/something else" or "She and X could make a beautiful couple | No, she and Y could make an awesome couple" etc. and that will extend for a very long time.
I find romance inside media to be annoying for the plot since I can barely think of any examples where romance adds to the plot and characters, but a while ago I came to the realization that romance inside media prevents some bullshit outside the media.
PD: media does not change someone's perspective on life all that drastically, when you are into something you will look for things that fit that something. Media doesn't shape society, individuals look for media that fits their personal mold.

Because our society in general has become apathetic and hateful of love. Especially fairy tale love where it is almost true love, or soul mates, and involving girl just stepping into womanhood and a strong, older man. We label these things as unrealistic or abusive or grooming. Society as a whole doesn't want, innocent, fairy tale, Disney romance anymore so they dont get it. Its that simple.

We don't need romance in every story and I am absolutely **tired** of a perfectly good story being ruined by shoehorning in a romance. Anna and Kristoff being a side story was perfect for frozen. You had romance but we also had *story*. We can have both and it can be so good!
Wish could have been good if they made so many different choices, and one of the biggest mistakes they made was running away from the love story it could have had, Asha could have had love and also conquered evil with the help of her friends, it could have bolstered the story and made us care more.
But Disney doesn't do moderation. They're either all in on romance with no thought or will not touch it with a 10 foot pole. Refusing to do romance period is just as tiring as it being forced into everything. Disney really needs to just get back into *good storytelling* with stories that sometimes have romance and sometimes dont but always have deep and beautifully vulnerable characters connecting with each other.

I agree so much on this, of course a story is allowed to have romance as long as it's made to be a good story I can invest myself in, and even if some stories don't have a romantic relationship taking center-stage doesn't mean characters can't meaningfully connect with each other platonically or familially.

I think the problem is that there is no variety. Why can't we have Moana saving her village on her own AND Aisha falling in love with Star guy? Also a story without romance must have an equally good emotional connection between the characters. Moana has connection with her grandma and friendship with maui, it works. Aisha has emotional connection with no one.

I was watching older Disney movies a lot a couple of years ago and I was just getting so…Nostalgic and feeling so honestly sad. I missed the beautiful, fun romances. Robin Hood and Maid Marian are one of my favorite Disney couples. And they’re so fun, they’re so cute, they’re so happy…Like they were friends when they were little kids and then they had crushes on each other. They had this sweet, already developed relationship. And no that is not how most Disney relationships are. But I still miss the romance in the Disney movies. Who cares if it’s not realistic. That’s kinda the point. Disney is this magical place where you are encouraged to dream and picture a better life for yourself even if in reality it might not come true. And for a lot of people finding love is a big dream. I feel like the older Disney movies were much more simple. They made me genuinely happy and feel carefree and hopeful about life. Heck that’s what the Disney theme song When You Wish Upon A Star was all about. And no it’s not realistic but that’s not the point. Disney was this joyful, hopeful thing that at least for me made me have hope about life. That one day I would find someone I would fall in love with and we’d get married. That I could sing and dance and find joy even in dark times. It was fun and lively and made me joyful. It was filled with magic and wonder like a child. I loved it and I miss it a whole lot.

I personally think we're just going from one extreme to another. back in disney's "hay day" they did have a lot of good romance stories but also too many I think. everything was about romance and I think it needed more variety.
I love the choice they made with frozen to make it about sisterly love. I don't think having a love interest for elsa would have been the right choice because she was such a closed off person having trouble even being around her sister where as ana was so open about meeting new people as she was so desperate that it made sense to show her finding someone. having them both find love would have been a bit unrealistic and also distract from the story.
there are reasons I can see for not putting romance in some of the other mentioned movies too. like how in brave there was a huge focus on how she wanted to be allowed not to marry and how that created conflict with her mother. giving her a love interest could have undermined that and made it seem like her mother was right all along.
now there are perhaps too few love stories and we need more variety again but I still think making too many stories without romance is more interesting than making too many about it. there are just so many ways you can take a non-romantic story. the stories you mentioned minus wish were all great and didn't get repetitive at all to me because they were so different.

It's not just Disney, but just Hollywood in general, who seems to be eschewing romance from movies. The Barbie movie, for instance, from Warner Brothers Studios, had made Barbie and Ken separate entities from each other, thus transforming her into a more independent woman, and him into a victim of unrequited love, which doesn't make any sense, especially since the dolls were created to be a couple. Not every female protagonist needs to be a feminist icon. And feminism doesn't mean that women have to reject men. Feminism, as I learned in college, isn't just about women's rights; it's about equality. And who says that being a single, independent woman makes you more feminist, anyway? What's wrong with having or wanting an equally strong male partner? And what's wrong with both men and women showing sensitivity and romantic feelings towards each other? Nothing, as far as I can see.

True, it's not every relationship, but that's what I like about the Disney Princesses, we do see a mix of that. Some romances started out rough, others clicked right away, just like they do in real life.

Not everyone who wants to find true love finds someone to share their life with. I think the recent Disney movies may be seeking to help everyone, with or without a loving relationship, to find happiness. One of the most important things for everyone to learn is to find happiness themselves and not expect someone else to make them happy. This is the basis for a healthy and happy life, whether you are single or married. I am a big fan of romance in the classic Disney Princess movies and have been living happily ever after for 23 years with my husband. I believe being single for many years with the opportunity to find out who I am was a very important part of becoming the person I need to be to build a happy marriage.

The romance in early Disney films wasn't the focus , Sleeping Beauty's problematic pacing and lack of development between Aurora & Philip ( the romantic element is a bit more important than in Snow White since the focus in Snow White is her relationship with the dwarfs , plus in these eraly Disney films the storytelling is more based on emotion and metaphors rather than logic, which is fitting for these kinds of stories due to their simplicity ) stems from the lackluster source material being difficult to adapt into a coherent story ( plus an overall troublesome production ) ... As far as Little Mermaid I believe it was a mistake to make it into a Disney film in the first place .
Walt tried to adapt it and inevitably gave up on it since unlike Cinderella or Snow White, where the stories are very simple and malleable and the darker elements are extremely replaceable and in cases unnecessary ( i.e Brothers Grimm's Schneewittchen ), Hans Christian Andersen's The Littlest Mermaid is so tightly written and well though out that the slightest inconsiderate change can ruin the whole thing. The story is about lust , poorly though decisions and above all else CONSEQUENCES, in both Disney's and Han's story the protagonist becomes infatuated with someone they didn't know ( Han's Character became attached to him because he was the flesh and blood incarnation of her beloved marble statue with which she was infatuated with ,the change to make the statue being Eric brings focus into Ariel's shallowness as well as depriving her of the deeper reason for like him like in the book ... ) and neither of them even try to consider the guy's point of view ( in Disney's she knows he likes her ,but Disney's version feels incredible convenient and is not as thrilling since you KNOW she'll end up with him so the stakes aren't as high, the book leads us to expect something and then pulls the rug underneath our feet when he doesn't return the feelings making the story feel fresh and interesting as well as unpredictable ) but the original story depicted it as weird ,wrong and showed the protagonist the reality of what happens when you rush into a relationship while Disney's completely ignores it and even the whole thing with the father daughter is a bit shallow since only Triton sees the error of his ways ,Ariel doesn't even TRY to see her father's point of view and she never apologises for being bratty ( which she objective kinda was ,she comes off as rather inconsiderate to her father's fears which are legit and he's got a point ) ... Anyway, Little Mermaid was a bad story to adapt for this studio since they had to butcher it in order to make it fit their formula, delivering an entertaining but subpar product in terms of character's, story and themes ( especially when you put it up against the masterfully crafted Source Material ) I think they should have both films with romance and without, both are valid ... I'm so pissed off that Wish was screwed up this badly

I grew up in the 90s where Disney got a lot of flak for having the heroine fall in love and get married in all their stories and I think this was a response to this. As a kid, I always thought this criticism was unfair since, Disney never wrote fairy tales, the films are mostly based on ancient stories. Likewise, of the classic heroines, only Cinderella and Ariel explicitly married their princes, the others were only implied, even Snow White. I also thought it was a bit sexist since human boys rarely got to be the lead in Disney's animated films, and now they don't get to be anything.

I'm just hoping Disney will make the right choice and make Nick x Judy from Zootopia canon in the sequel. Those two are the perfect example of what a modern day, realistic romance looks like.
They've seen each other's flaws, learned from said flaws, became better people because of each other, they know when to say they're sorry, and they are very sweet and caring towards one another.

The short answer is political correctness. Depicting women wants to fall in love is considered a sign of "weakness," and such female leads are considered "unempowered." Never mind that the desire for companionship is a human constant among both males and females; every female character has to be a girlboss now, while every male character has to be a weak, incompetent dolt. (I'm a 31-year old male and I yearn for the possibility of falling in love with a woman and getting married in the future.) Not that we can't have empowered women or incompetent men sometimes, but it's been overdone to the point that it's no longer interesting, subversive or unexpected. Unfortunately, the very people that love to preach most about diversity don't want any diversity in female characters because they think it's always wrong for women to pursue traditional gender roles. Just as not every woman has to conform to gender roles, not every woman has to defy them either. If you really, truly believe that "diversity is our strength," then you will recognize and appreciate this fact.

    • @ophelia4759
      @ophelia4759 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

I agree (as a girl myself!) So few heroines are genuinely feminine anymore-- they all have to be stand-alone heroes who rescue the guy-in-distress. One thing so often neglected is the fact that a damsel-in-distress doesn't automatically equal weak!! A girl can be not good at fighting or be somewhat frantic under pressure or need help and still be "strong"-- being morally firm and steadfast is a more IMPORTANT aspect of strength than combat prowess or leadership skills.

This was such an informative video, literally speaking my mind on how romance doesn’t need to be in every movie, but it shouldn’t be completely absent from movies either, I think my favourite statement you stated was “Can she live happily ever after on her own” cause yes she can do anything she can put her mind to, she can save the day, she can fight the baddies, be powerful, but she still deserves to not be lonely, and especially the examples you showed with Tiana put those thoughts into perspective!! Personally, I don’t feel like many of the relationships hold up. Like yes I get that they are fairy tales but not really lessons on how we should view healthy relationships. I mean take Belle, home girl was clearly in an abusive relationship and got Stockholm syndrome. Ariel, sold her damn soul to be with a human she saw once prior to saving him. Cinderella ran off with a man who was completely willing to marry whatever woman perfectly fit that shoe. There are many more examples, but I feel Disney has shown us that you can have a fairytale story without some sick and demented romance shoved in kids faces.

The reason my top three Disney princess movies are Tangled, Princess and the Frog, and Beauty and the Beast are solely because of how realistically the protagonists interact with each other (plus classic Disney magic) and fall in love, flaws and all; I wish Disney would experiment with romance again (including lgbt, like in Strange World- it was so cool to see two male characters into each other, but it wasn't explored much in the film. Everyone needs someone to share their lives with, their dreams with, there hopes and dreams, and having someone there for you, it gives you the courage to follow your dreams or just having someone be there for you, it can motivate you to do great things and even carry on in life. But no one ever got anywhere alone. And that's my point of view.

Princess and the Frog will always hold a special place in my heart because of the storytelling and theming. It strikes a perfect middle ground between realism and fantasy. A movie where hard work and dedication is required for success, but success doesn't instantly give happiness.
Tiana very much embodies the modern trope of women at the start of the movie... she's aloof and distant to her friends, she wants to be independent and self-sufficient. She has a destination in view and knows exactly where she's going..... but as the movie progresses, she slowly realizes how much she NEEDS love, and how important it is. The emphasis here is that love isn't just something people want, it's a genuine deep necessity that we all hope for.
I've heard people attribute "Frozen" for being a palette-cleanser in the sense that it tackled the age-old Disney trope of falling in love with someone you've only just met based on looks. But Princess and the Frog released in 2009, with Frozen releasing in 2013. Prince Naveen started out exactly like the typical prince, falling in love with every girl based on looks alone. But even he learned to REALLY love Tiana and appreciate her for more than that, even going so far as to put her wants before his own. Princess and the Frog was the only palette-cleanser I'll ever need from Disney. Here's hoping to God they never make a sequel and ruin it... (this comment will not age well)

Thank you for this point, and glad I am not the only one who see this pattern. Obviously, I shouldn't mind the pattern because Disney does need variety, yet since Tangled, it just feels downgraded. Like you set a high goal, you get something new instead and everyone approves, yet you don't feel accomplish or something. Point is, even if films turn out great, some films really do feel empty without the spice of romance (ex. Trolls 3, Frozen 2, etc.). And I should agree with how the early films may of set that love by looks to high, but one, that was early days of animation, it was meant to be seen as out there, simplify for laughs and feel goods, and no matter what, wouldn't it still take long to establish the perfect relationship in real time, both then and now? Animation/cartoons just try to demonstrate love at first sight as something hopeful and a chance someone instantly is out there.
Fortunately, films outside of Disney and even Dreamworks have been made with the perfect amount of romance help me through with calming my struggles: Mavka the Forest Song, Tall Tales and the Magical Garden of Antron Krings, Begonia and Big fish and so on.

That remake is entirely dependent on an old story already existing, without any understanding of how the old story came into existence in the first place. The current leadership at Disney have no perspective, they just see it as an asset that’s always been there.

Imo romantic relationships are not required to make a good movie but in the case of Wish not just one but TWO romantic couples would have significantly improved the movie cause in the original Asha's mom and grandpa seemed to care more about their wishes then Asha's wellbeing and she and her dwarf-friends were awful to the troubled Simon and possibly traumatized-from-his-past Magnifico. The Lord of the Rings trilogy is Imo a good example of media where it's romance is not trivialized but also not outruling it's non-romantic relationships as especially seen with the Fellowship. We need movies/series/books like this back.

Here's the thing about expectations. They are born from naturally occuring encounters in life. There was a time before you had those expectations, and you only got them because something was introduced that resonated with you. So by that same merit, we should allow this same process of discovery to happen again and create new expectations. Our previously held expectations have a tendency to prevent this, and our growth of worldview slows down as a result. Sometimes you just gotta trust the unknown.

Why We Don't See ROMANCE in DISNEY movies anymore? Because romance in fiction is stupid

    • @britt6184
      @britt6184 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

On the contrary. If done well, a romantic storyline can be among the most powerful, emotional narratives in fiction.
For example, in the five part fantasy series I'm writing, the protagonist is deeply in love with her childhood friend(close family friend). They get separated at the end of the first book and her love for him fuels her desire to find him which also helps drive the main plotline forward because she chooses to once again leave the safety of the city she was raised in to hopefully reunite with the man she loves. The world outside the city is significantly more dangerous than when the book started so she is willing to risk her own life for the sake of her love.
While the romance isn't all the series is about, it is still an integral part of it. It also has a focus on platonic and familial relationships, good and bad.
I'll agree that forced\badly written romance ruins a story though. I once stopped reading a book because I didn't like how the author decided to have her two leads meet. For context, the man kidnapped the woman and her adopted sister to hold them for ransom and the woman treated the experience like a romantic fantasy. That didn't sit right with me so I put it down and have been ignoring the book since.

They also completely destroyed the romance of Tangled in that stupid TV show and completely destroyed Flynn's character. They reduced him to the dumb boyfriend side character in favor of Cassandra and gave all the development and emotional scenes to Rapunzel and Cassandra when in the movie it was about Rapunzel and Flynn, and they were completely equal and equally developed. They both saved each other, instead of one person doing all the saving. In the series Rapunzel just does all the saving! Also, in the movie they were dual protagonists and Flynn was just as important as Rapunzel. In the series Flynn is completely sidelined and the trauma he should have is never mentioned. Instead, it’s all about Cassandra. It’s because of frozen, they gave rapunzel a sister and focused only on the sister relationship while dumping down the boyfriend. It’s also because of stupid modern feminism where they always have to portray every man as a weak, stupid Idiot and every woman as a Mary Sue! That’s just turning the sexism around and discriminate men instead of women! I really hate that, Flynn deserves better!
What makes me feel worse about this stupid series is that I listened to the Tangled Songs and Story CD and there the narrator literally says at the end that Flynn mattered more to Rapunzel than anything which is true in the movie but definitely false in this stupid series. There it always seems Like Cassandra Matters more to her than Flynn and that makes the whole ending of the movie unbelievable where she was willing to sacrifice herself Just to save him because she Loved him so much. So it Just makes No logical Sense that she would suddenly Always Put a Person she met afterwards before him If she really loved him as much as in the movie. And I hate that she is such a hypocrite in the series who lets Cassandra Always insult him without saying a Word, keeps secrets from him, draws his face on a punching bag and never even apologizes and rejects his proposals but gets Mad when her supposed true Love for whom she wanted to Go to hell says Something against Cassandra. That is the Most toxic relationship I've ever Seen. And just imagine the roles were switched, imagine a guy would let his best friend constantly insult his girlfriend, keep secrets from her, draw her face on a punching bag just for his best friend and even reject her marriage proposal, then everyone would call it sexist and misogynistic and a toxic relationship. But when a guy is treated like that, it’s alright! It’s such a double standard and it’s ridiculous! Ugh, I hate modern feminism!
And what I hate about the whole marriage Thing in this context is that they are basically saying that it's Not ok to marry someone whom you deeply and truly Love after a few months but it's OK to try to give up your entire freedom and basically your entire life for someone whom you Just met three days ago. If they Love each other that much that they would do Something Like that after only having known each other for a few days than their Love is so strong and true and then they could and should marry after a Short time Especially considering the time period the movie is Set where they could only truly be together after being married. And If Disney wanted to Show a couple Not marrying so soon they should have taken a different couple than Rapunzel and Flynn because they proved how deeply and truly they Loved each other after a few days and since they almost Lost each other it would make Sense that they wouldn't want to lose more time together after they saw how Short life can be and besides, their Story Takes place in a time where people married early. They should have rather Had Tiana and Naveen marry only after a few years because they dont seem Like they fit very well together and didnt try to die for each other after a few days and furthermore their Story Takes place in the 1920s, Not the 1700s. They would have been perfect for Not marrying immidiately, Not Rapunzel and Flynn who seem like the worst candidates for this in my opinion. And that whole rejecting marriage plotline is the worst Storyline I've ever Seen. They send the Message that marriage is a prison even though you Love each other and that is such a horrible Message. And it's Especially horrible how in the Episode beyond the Corona walls, it seems Like that she never wanted to marry him at the beginning of the Episode which raises the question why the hell she is even still with him If a life with him seems so horrible to her and also why the hell she wouldn't want to marry the man she Loved that much that she wanted to Go to prison for for all eternity in the movie. It Just doesn't make any logical Sense and is inconsistent with the movie and also the Wedding Short where she looked so deeply in Love and so incredible Happy. It Just doesn't make Sense that she would have rejected the proposal before. And whats worse is that in that Episode it seems Like she only changed her mind about marriage because Stalyan wanted him which makes it seem like she only wants him when another girl wants him which is so incredibly toxic. If someone considers marriage as a prison, then that means they are subconsciously thinking about cheating or breaking up! I analyzed this once in school about a book where a guy who considered marriage as a prison in a similar way as Rapunzel in this stupid series, ended up cheating on his girlfriend! And that is precisely what would happen in real life! When someone rejects marriage, the relationship is over!
And I'm pretty Sure the writers of Tangled intended for tangled ever After to Take place shortly after the movie because the little girls of the movie seemed to be the Same age in the Short and Wikipedia also states it was originally intended to Take place immediately after the movie. The series Just doesn't seem believable and seems Like it Takes place in a completely different universe as the movie. And I Just can't consider it Canon because of all These reasons and it's obvious that it was written by someone else than the movie. So, Right now I Just Count it as Not Canon to still be able to watch the movie. If I Had to Count it as Canon, then I Wish Flynn would have stayed dead at the end of the movie and wasnt brought back to life. It would have been a very sad and tragic ending but it would have at least been better than showing such a toxic relationship between two characters who were both trying to sacrifice themselves for each other.

I would have appreciated them more if they ALSO had Flynn develop a BFF relationship, like with Lance (in the books, with the backstory, I liked that). Or if they finally had Cassandra and Flynn get along as well, but Cassandra seems to tolerate him only for Rapunzel's sake.

    (Warning. Long Opinion of mine)
I think the main issue is, that people are keep on complaining about how they showed romance in the past, people who lived in that period, would understand but people these days people, want independence and equality saying that they dont need love, man and that that men should die (some girls say that.) Which isnt right.
People see the problem in snow white that, snow white was young and the prince was older, which would be illegal in some of the states today and people consider it disgusting, but it was normal back then and also, the other problem is that the prince kisses her when she's asleep, I MEAN WHAT WAS HE SUPPOSED TO DO? LET HER DIE? She liked him anyway and snow white wasnt obsessed with the prince, she had her own plans, she was technically like a mother to the dwarfs.
With Ariel, the problem for those indepentent "women" is that Ariel changed for the prince.
Disney, wants to give people what they want but sadly, it's for those who want indepentence.
Actually, disney really said: "Oh, you want to make it better? MAKE IT BETTER! WE DONT CARE!"
Because they gave a role to someone who hates Snow white, doesnt know anything about it and never watched it.
These people think disney dont have women that can do anything for theirself!
    Uhm, hello?
Snow white = mother-like-figure, animals love her.
    Wendy = mother-like-figure, smart.
Tiana = hard-working, willing to give up something for someone.
Cinderella = hard-working, later on free.
Tinkerbell = Creative, even more than the other tinkers.
Bella = smarter than the whole village
Ariel = Brave enough to fufil her dreams.
Merida = Brave, strong, self-awareness for her actions later on.
Mulan = Smart, strong, proves that girls can fight.
Rapunzel = able to care for herself whole life when "mother" isnt there
    Elsa = self-aware, caring-sister, strong
    Anna = positive, kind, adventerous.
(I havent really seen all of the cartoons but i will)
Rapunzel might be nervous and be really positive, but being stuck in a tower whole life, not knowing anything other than her room, not knowing other people than mother and other animals but only her chameleon.
When you are stuck somewhere whole life and then be free, you wont know how to act, you wont know how to approach people, what is good and bad.
    Same with Anna.
Ariel wasnt used to living on shore, because she was literally a mermaid.
(Gotta mention Encanto was good because it showed the side of family problems and there was a couple drama with Dolores)
With this said, Disney probably decided to give up because it has been getting many complains, half people WANT THAT. half people THAT.
Everything is wrong with Disney on the other side if they wont do what they want.
So Disney lets the people rewrite their stories, which becomes trashy because people cant write good stories without experience, if they havent seen the original story, if everything is revovled around the person rewriting, if they hate the character they are playing.
Disney is in no situation to be win-win.
People arent complaining on Dreamworks! It's like the feminist-indepentent women are stuck on disney because "every" main story is around a woman.
Did people forget that Tarzan exists? Stitch? Peter pan? Poo? Mickey Mouse?
Those dont get ANY BACKLASH! Not the animatied versions at least.
It's mostly because people complain about women not being "good" for this generation in the disney movies.
Those people who think that indepentence needs to be everywhere and no men are needed.
Are honestly, stupid, they are the reason why in most of the films there is no actual Romance.
    (My opinion.)

🫧Hi Noone! I really love your take and thoughts on this topic. I was a bit confused on why society started to have issues with Snow White's romance and the ending to that film when she is kissed by the Prince....I mean, Snow White wanted the prince "romantically," she sang about him and everything....in my opinion it was consensual, based on what she sang about and you are also right about how there seems to be this agenda I think when it comes to gender roles too, it's just a weird time to live in right now.... a lot of it just creates more gender division which we don't need....I appreciate you ☺️🫧🌊🌊🌊

@@Millie_the_Mermaid Hello Millie, I didnt want to include gender in to it much but you're right, a film needs to have something from lgbtq+ to even get a reward in this "era", I'm not much against it but some of those things are executed poorly but not all are bad, for example Hazbin Hotel.
But it isnt only Romance that disappeared, it's also trustworthy friendship and good villains.
In today disney cartoons, the villains are sorta... bad feelings, or the main characters that have to realize what's wrong with them.
Or there is a villain but you will never know unless you dig deep because they'll never reveal it.
Back then, it was pure evil, scar, maleficent, ursula, the evil queen and the list goes on.
But I honestly like ursula and maleficent live-action remakes, they add to their story and change things.
Captain Hook is villain, but noone takes him quite seriously because of his mental state and fear of the crocodile, but he is really manipulative and can be obsessive around what he wants. Not all villains are perfect, there can be one that's looking silly. He is still a good villain.
Gaston is a villain but truly he's a man that wants fame, Bella and be the hero, which sorta lead him to his down-fall. Pride can be considered as a sin from 7 deadly sins.
Hans is a villain for power of course but I think they could've made him a bit better villain.
Here is fan fact tho: in Hero Big 6 you can notice in the police office on the wanted pictures, there is HANS, HOW DID HE MAKE HIS WAY INTO THE FUTURE HUH?!
However there are few things I want to mention about Peter pan and Wendy the remake aswell, even if it isnt really disney-princess type, it's still from disney itself.
Because it truly did sink disney a bit down aswell.
In the book and the cartoon it's stated that there are no "lost girls" because they grow up faster than boys, I mean, whereelse would a sentence "That's why girls live longer than boys" would come from!
Boys are longer in their childhood I suppose.
But in the remake there are "lost girls" so... wouldnt that technically be calling women... "immature" when the books said girls are more mature, the "indepentent, equality type girls" probably thought having only lost boys, be a discrimination and since they want equality so bad they are willing to be "immature just as boys" which they probably didnt think of that.
Wendy, is lead to neverland by Peter because she knows stories and could be a mother but in the remake she randomly just gets lead by Peter pan in the neverland ...for no reason because she doesnt want to be the mother to the lost boys.
Also Wendy, Tigerlily, EVEN mermaids have a crush on Peter pan.
In the movie there is none of that.
Peter pan also feels like a side character?
Another thing that sorta annoys me is that Tinkerbell in cartoons is white, Iridessa (the other fairy) is a different race, just like the other fairies, and the actor that plays Tinkerbell in the remake looks more like Iridessa than Tinkerbell.
Wendy in the remake then says "This magic belongs to NO BOY"
Girl, it belongs to the fairies, not you neither, besides Terrence exists? And the other boy faries?
I hate to say this, but the actor that plays Wendy, being still a child, wont have a good future if she continues down the path, whoever wrote that put her in.
Literally wrote out my soul into this
      😭
Also I hope we dont get Frozen remake for one reason:
They'll probably change Anna's behavior compeltly, like come on!
She hasnt spoken to anyone for years after her parents death aside herself, would anyone expect her to be quiet when she meets other people?
Sure, nervous but she's hyperactive and happy and since she was stuck in the castle for half of her life, she doesnt know good or bad and then she finds a man (Hans) who's almost like her for her but truly isnt.
If they would cut it out, because of the attitude "I DONT NEED NO MAN" I'd be pissed.
And what about Cristoff, would be also get cut out because he's the next to help Anna?!
And what about Olaf... would they cut him out just like Velma did to Scooby doo...?

It's not just romance missing. If you compare to even anime for instance. There's plenty of anime where girls just have fun hanging out together having girl time. Even that is missing in modern Disney films. And really hasn't even been explored before. I guess because "friendship" is too lame of a concept to sell on the big screen. But it's an aspect of real life. So when you do not portray that characters seem to exist in their own bubble.

Um.... Anna & Kristoff? Woody & Bo? Ember & Wade? There are many newer couples. And I don't think a relationship needs to be EVERYTHING. Especially when most of the older romances are unhealthy and unrealistic. Not every woman wants to find romance (there are people who out romance on the back burner for their other goals in life). Also, some people are Asexual and Aromantic. I think showing that strong independent female leads can do more than just want a boyfriend, is actually VERY impactful for newer generations. Focus on your dreams and goals, don't focus so much on finding a partner because there's plenty of time for that. It's actually sexist to only want stories where woman want a man. LOL Women can do and want more than that. Not every woman wants a man to marry and have kids with. Some of us just want to fulfill our own dreams and focus on family, like Mirabel, Merida, and Elsa.

Also I think we all just need to realize that perfect. It's not a real thing. I mean, it's a concept. It's literally just a concept. Thought out by a bunch of guys and suits designed to make people feel jealous or insignificant. You know, and we all know that's like psychology and science and general has backed that up and history. Has?
Backside of I mean like everything you can think of has backed that up. I think that's I think that's a big part of the problem with this idealized unrealistic empty shallow kind of romance story where they fall in love based on looks. Like that's really the problem with that is like those kind of stories they don't. That's not real. You know, like if you're going to make a real love story like you have to acknowledge the fact that perfect is not a real thing. It's literally just a made up concept and you have to create the story based on that truth right there. That perfect is not a real thing. In fact, it's just a concept. People made up to manipulate others and like when you create cause like that's a thing you just need to create a love story that has that, as its basis cause then it's an actual real truthful of story and not an empty shalo one.

If you look up the agenda of post-modernism, you'll understand why Woke Disney has adopted this approach. They despise everything Walt Disney created and his entertainment values were in traditional storytelling that went back centuries from the written word to stage productions to Vaudeville. That carried through until recent years. Starting in the 90's there were a lot of bitter academics who hated Disney and constantly picked it apart. They complained that these romance stories were negative on the culture and eventually this ideology took over. Every time these stories of the single empowered woman has been made you also see a portion of the fanbase demanding the empowered women be gay. It's all part of post modernism why this stuff has taken over animated films.

One was the American Indian Village that was there until the 70's. Another was the Aunt Jemima restaurant, which was Walt's favorite place to eat in the park. It was there until the early 70's too. We also talked about why they were removed. There was a radical leftist group known as the Yippies who rioted at Disneyland in 1970 on the anniversary of the bomb dropped on Hiroshima. They had a history of rioting places but the police removed them after it started getting bad and the park closed for the day. It's incredible lost history and what happened was the major diversity in the park was removed. The American Indian village was an outreach of American history to guests. Walt had over 16 tribes involved and the tribes loved teaching about their heritage to guests from all over the world. When we talked about Aunt Jemima we talked about both Nancy Green and the fictional backstory of the character, which was lifted from a real incident in the American Revolution but transplanted to the Civil War. Ariel made it very clear after she saw him that she wanted to get to know him and that she relates to him being pressured by expectations. And Ariel's looks didn't mean that much to Eric, hence he initially only considered her a guest rather than a suitor. He didn't start developing feelings for her until the tour because he liked how spontaneous she was and she taught him to appreciate the little things in life.

After that, she wanted to get to know him, even planning on swimming to his palace and talk to him before Sebastian sang Under the Sea.
Initially, Eric showed no romantic interest in Ariel at all. He only took her into the palace because he thought she had a traumatic experience and wanted to help her recover. He starts to fall for her because she shares his love for thrills and because she's more spontaneous than what royalty would consider appropriate and because she teaches him to appreciate the little things in life in order to help him escape the pressures of royalty (we see earlier in the movie the statue of him depicting him as a powerful king, but Eric cringes at the statue because it's a reminder of how burdened he is by expectations and becoming king means he has to say goodbye to his adventures at sea, hence he is so picky when it comes to marrying a princess, because he wants his wife to be more than just a queen consort).

It would be nice to see Disney do another love story as one of the main plot points in some of their films.

@@Millie_the_Mermaid No disrespect at all. I understand that you have a different life experience than me. Therefore, your taste in media will be different than mine. I know you said you miss romance in Disney films. However, I do not. Frozen is my favorite Disney movie of all time. I prefer a sister story over a romantic one.
I was homeschooled, so romance is not a part of my life. My relationship with my sister is one of the most important relationships I have. Therefore, a sister story speaks more to me because of my experience. My channel has stories that I wrote featuring homeschooled protagonists. The stories usually focus on things that homeschoolers have to go through. I love to write, but I also love to see characters I can relate to. Not everyone can relate to romance, which I think some people forget. (No disrespect.)💛 I understand that not everyone can relate to what I relate to. I am sure many people could read my books and consume stories I relate to and not see themself represented. I am not offended by that at all. It is okay to enjoy different things. That is why I believe every story does not need romance in it.

@@Genetics_StoriesThat's a really neat perspective....I am an only child, no brothers or sisters....so, I wouldn't know that special bond with a sister, but it seems really beautiful, you are very blessed. Thanks for sharing 💙🌊🌊🌊

Well to be honest I'd rather see women and be the heroine of their own I mean come on a guy singing in the dance of this in distress is okay but sometimes it's okay to actually have the woman and have the woman and maybe hero another of her like I said of her own story instead of their me instead of it being the guy saving the woman and having some sort of Love relationship and I mean can it just be the woman and that has her own story without the true love deal 🤝 I mean is it not okay I want to see what's the big deal on that I mean I like it when women are the heroin instead of instead of the dancehall on the stress anyhow Happy Easter 🐇🐣

No is saying everyone needs romance. But Disney needs to do moderation.

Excuse my tinfoil hat, but I do have to wonder if we see less romance (in all movies, not just Disney) because there's less of an excuse these days for only showing het couples, and nothing but het couples makes the genre homogeneous. That said, though, as a man who enjoys romance, even though I'm bi and would like to see some actually *good* non-straight relationships (or non-monogamous ones, which is asking a lot but the POTC trilogy or El Dorado have the right vibes lol), I'll take any romance that's done well at this point. Love is the greatest thing in the world, and a romance done well, even as a sub-plot, always adds to a story imo.
