Did you connect the wires appropriately? Are the cut strands touching at all? Even one strand can mess it up if using electrical tape or something similar, wires may poke through. I just ran 150ft with multiple cuts, no issues and no voltage drop

Awesome job, I got a couple of questions. My soffit is over 150ft actually about 210ft.... Can i buy an additional 100ft and make it work as one and what would you recommend for vinyl siding for fasteners?
You always would like to shoot for one controller for your lights but I know that is limited with the feet the kits provide or what it can handle. When the pros are available get the 200ft. It will be all worth it. You can use Bluetooth and WiFi in one controller. You can easily splice without losing warranty and it easy to work with
As far as the fasteners to use, use the link below to purchase hitch clips pins to place in the holes while holding the wire in place www.amazon.com/dp/B00IZFR74E/?tag=jbsditv-20
The website indicates 150ft so I recommend to do just that until the module driver is released. Now, I was able to do two installs with 12 strands(200ft) and I’ve contacted the homeowners said they have had no issues. I will definitely circle back once those drivers get release. Make right choices, install what’s recommended first. Thank you for your support to the channel
We don’t use staples guns for this reason. We use 18gauge Brad Nail guns that have impact settings so you can adjust the depth of the 1” nail to the clip surface
I have 2x4 eaves in the way, can you tell me if it is safe to drill hole through them to run the govee lights without having to worry about the 2x4 in the long run.
Sounds like you have open rafters and no soffit. I don’t recommend drilling through each one. Purchase a 1x2 and install the strands on that. Then install that board 2-4” from the wall and anchor them to the rafters
Yes. Client bought 4 boxes of the Pros 100ft but we just used the controller and power adapters of two boxes. The front and right side had 200ft and the back and left side had 150ft
Thank you for watching. I haven’t tried it but if you don’t mind me asking…why would you use the power box pros on the 1st generation lights? Seem redundant
@dulux69 I see, yeah just verified it but like I had mentioned in the video, the only difference is the connection is not the same for the adapter and controller with the first generation. 1st gen has the 3 prongs and the pros have an auxiliary connection
@@jbsdiytv :D I am debating between the 2 but don't know what the differences. Will you be in Houston? would love to have your help on installing Govee if you are in this area. Thanks
@elvaduong i usually don’t like to shun on other companies because everyone has their differences and quality’s and you may have a certain preference. Govee makes a cone/triangle effect while the other companies use puck and pixel lighting in tracking that disburse light in 360. Govee looks brighter in my opinion but some may not like that. It’s up to you
@@jbsdiytv Thank you very much for explaining the differences. Will you be in the Houston areas for installation? I would love to get the lights for my house installed if you happened to be in this part of town. Thank you again.
Great videos. So helpful. I just purchased the 200ft Pro lights. Can you use a longer extension then 12ft provided by Govee? If so can you point one out to me. Also would you know the maximum length I can extend? I have 2 stories and would like to connect the one strand to first and 2nd floor soffits. Also my soffits are stucco. Any recommendations on how to mount lights to stucco. I've seen the provided adhesive pads don't work well on stucco.
Thank you for watching. Yes you can use longer extensions. Buy 18/3 gauge wire. Then use a 4ft Govee extension, pro splice connector, the custom wire, pro splice connector, then a 4ft pro extension again. Doing it like this we have done 30-40ft jumps. As for the stucco part, you will have to pilot a hole and add a insert to install the screws
I see that you used TYMXGHF transparent Strip Light Clips,Self Adhesive with Screws Mounting Holder,50Pcs LED Strong Fixing Clips And Screws on your jobs. Do you know if I can use this with pilot hole insert and screw to stucco? Also my one of my connection extension is actually 52ft. Is that length a problem?
@JoelSoloria you can use these but I would use a different screw than the ones they have. I would get a #6 3/4” Phillips head screw to use. As far as the 52ft jump goes, that is way to long of a jump with using the proper formula. I’ll post a video in a little while and tag it back on to here so you can see the formula
@@jbsdiytv Thanks JB. I took measurements on pdf images of plan and where I intend to connect power. Do you have an email address (or other formats) I can send to you? Would love to get your input and a picture paints a thousand words.
Can you run 200ft on a non pro govee lights with one contoller? If I use 2 seperate 100ft, can I just group the 2 controller in the app and run it that way? TIA
Hi there and thanks for watching. You can’t run 200ft on the 1st edition lights. The controller/app reads 9 segments only which is 150ft. If you use two 100ft, yes you can group them. Only thing different is that there are certain functions you have to do individually for each device and then set a schedule for them

37:05 Did you add that outdoor power box, or was it all ready there? Also! How many power bricks did you end up using, and where did you end up setting the power brick. Inside the attic or outside under the roof ? One last question. Have you guys done any installations on roofs where the eaves are showing? The reason for asking is because my roof all the eaves are showing to where some are flat and some are standing towards the middle of the roof on the 2nd floor. The 1st. Floor, all the eaves are standing on their side... It's too bad you guys aren't located in Cali. Otherwise, I would've been more than happy to hire you guys for installing the lights. You guys do an awesome job on every installation I've seen so far...
I did not add that power box there, it was already there. Two power bricks were used on this install. We covered 200ft on one for all viewing the front which was 12 segments with no splicing at all and the back was covered with 150ft which was 9 segments. Since we spliced in the back, we hit yes to calibrate the device We have not done installs where the eaves are showing. We have rejected these installs as wood work will have to be done to accomplish the installation. Thank you for your comment and support to our channel.
Yes that is correct. When there is no attic space, there is no choice to place them securely under the eaves. The waterproofing box we typically use was sold out and it was time for the install. We plan to go back a waterproofing box because we will be back in that area installing Govee lights
@@jbsdiytv sounds good. Im in same situation. Bought 2x200ft pros. Was thinking to bring both bricks to attic. So basically both 200 ft will go in different direction from attic or some how. I dont know. Not sure how it will work.
Have you had a project where some sections don't have soffits and the gutters are flash with the wall? If you have, what was your work around/hack to install in such sections?
Im planning to install mine but I measured it is 200ft more or less. Im planning to use the govee 1st gen. is it ok to use one power supply for 200ft? Thanks
Correct. At that time we installed 2-100ft kits together on one controller and it worked. Since the firmware updates we had to go back and add the LED Driver Module after the fifth strand of lights because there were performance issues after the updates. I would recommend adding that LED Driver Module always now if going passed 150ft. Thank you for your comment
Hi I just bought the 200’ pro . My question is I’m placing the on the first and second story , do I need two controllers for the first and second story? And if so will they be in sync? Or should I try and hook them up using only one controller? The jump up to the second story is far so I’m not sure how long I can make my jumper?
It is difficult to know what your layout of your home looks like as each scenario is different but I do always recommend one controller if it’s possible. Do you have any other social platforms that I can DM you?
Thats one thing we ask our clients if they plan to get any new roofs anytime soon. If it ever came down to that, the roofer can unscrew the connections off the extensions to the lights. In your case since you live in PA, I would find other methods to run them through your attic along with the devices
The client bought 4 boxes of 100ft pros. Two boxes were put in front. That’s 2-12ft and 4-4ft extensions available to us. Then in the back it was 150ft that’s another 2-12ft and 4-4ft extensions. We install Govee for Texas residents so we alway have extra accessories as well
@@charleedoessolarmaintenain9149 yes I sure can. Vinyl soffit have small holes in them. With this hitch pin, use the side that’s straight and place them in the hole holding the govee wire in place. im sorry i have so many questions. last one and ill leave u alone. im pretty handy but electrical currents arent my thing. so lets say i plug my stuff in and i start. at the left of my roof, my roof runs straight across about 50 foot and i also have a peak above my roof that starts after about 3 feet from the left and end at about half way point. can i run a splitter to get the peak and the roof right there on the left? i seen some splitters on amazon. if this wont work what can i do? like im worried id mess up the flow of the lights say if i were to do some sort of fluid light show. id want the peak to run left to right with the main roof.
Excellent video! I have a similar frame on my house. I just received the 200ft Pro and I'll need to get creative without making too many splices/extensions while trying to keep those extensions inside my attic as best as possible. Is there any reason not to use insulated cable staples such as DEWALT DRS18100-XJ staples to secure the line along the soffit? Seems like that would be easier than using those clips. Also, I believe there are 60 clips that came with the pro which won't be enough if I go that route. Thanks for this video. It really helped me visualize how I need to tackle my home. 4.75" seems too far from the wall but as you said, that's what the customer wanted. I'm thinking about using 2.5" for mine as it's pretty close to the middle of Govee's recommendation of 3-8cm (1-3 inch).
Thanks for watching. We have done over 60 installs and tried almost every method to secure these lights. Keep in mind our clients pay high dollar for installs and want no excuses and want the best install that will last so that’s what we provide. We go for a clean, tight and working install as always. You can use a staple gun that has impact settings and it will work but there is a slight gap between the light and the staple. That’s out of my control as the staple gun is designed like that. We have used cable staple gun and the gap is present as well. Also, the staple is bulky. Only 5% them work on hardiplank, the rest just bend. We have done screwed all the clips before but that takes way to much time. We have a least 10hrs to complete a perfect install. That’s why we use the transparent clips so it blends with each soffit. Yes, the customer wanted 4.75 but it wasn’t to bad but yes I agree that these lights are intended to be installed 2-4” from the wall so you get that cone effect.
@@jbsdiytv thank you for the fast reply. You answered my thoughts about staples (gap and bending). Clips and nail gun it will be. Is there a way that I can send you a picture of my house to get your thoughts on how I might address a couple of upper level roof lines? Thanks!
Do you have a Reddit account? Here is the video link to purchase clips. Usually an install will take 150-200clips Govee/AliExpress-Endless amount of clips #diy #howto #fyp #govee th-cam.com/users/shortsiwZyyI3RXUw?feature=share
It depends. How many controllers do you have? If it’s one as long as it’s near your router to connect first. If it’s two then connect them first in your app and then you can install them. Try and keep them close to your attic entrance to be able to calibrate them if you have the pro version. You can add an extension before you get to your lights and after the controller. If you have non pros then you need to keep in mind that when install left to right it will cast a purple white and right to left will be a greenish white. This is because the non pros use 3 different colors to make white and it’s the way the diode is manufactured in place
Your welcome. You’ll be fine with whatever you do then. Attic is what we do if it works for your install. If not we use this waterproof box when the device is exposed. amzn.to/3RG4soV
We do but we are currently booked for out of town installs. Sept-December is the most busiest for us. We are a small business taking on all of Texas. We appreciate the support🙏. Thank you for your service to our country👊
1.from your experience, what is the best distance to use to install the light from the edge of the the house/garage? 3,4.5,5 inches? 2. what size of finishing nails do you use?
We always do 2-4” to get the triangle/cone effect as recommended my Govee. I’ve seen other place it further because they want to conceal the look of the wire and placing it right behind the fascia board. Doing so will eliminate the wall washing of light on the wall for the cone look and give you a disburse of light. We use 1” nails for our projects
@@jbsdiytv does it make a difference if I use 20/3 AWG instead of your recommended 18/3 AWG wire for the splices? I found a lot of recommendations to use 20 AWG.
So you’re honest opinion is the version two brighter than the version one? Other than the white light and splicing options which one would you go with if you didn’t need either. My only concern is the brightness.
The pros give 2700-6500 Kelvin so that’s 800-3200 lumens I believe. The both versions are bright as hell. Typically what is used in commercial lighting. I just think the Pros will be easier to work with, have the warm white option and can run more feet instead of multiple power blocks and controllers. If you have a black or brown surface then that’s a plus with the black version
How did you get a 16 foot extension and then a 12 foot extension, do they sell extra 12 foot extensions? I plan on running 120 feet of light +50 feet of extensions to get all my eves done, can I use the hundred foot light controller or do I need to get the 200 foot light controller?
The 100ft Govee Pros com with one 12’ blank extension and 2-4ft extensions. I used a 12’ and a 4ft together on the 200ft run. After doing this video, I came across a person testing the lights and Govee will start selling power boosters for the pros. Beats me why it was put in the box to begin with
How much length of lighting did you end up using for the pro light install? I bought 2 of the 100ft pro kits thinking I could put them together, but I guess I need an LED module driver, which they don’t sell yet… I need 125ft total but the lights don’t connect past 100ft…
They don’t sale the LED module driver yet and not sure why they didn’t put in the box to begin with since most all would purchase 2 boxes of 100ft. But they do work past 100ft. Not sure what your doing wrong
Thanks for watching. We use a Brad nailer for all our installs with two nails at each clips. We use UV transparent clips so it matches the soffit color Here are the link to the clips amzn.to/3TbQMmr
On this installation, the front has 200ft and that’s on one controller. The back was 150ft and that’s on another controller. We shoot to always have the controllers for the front so it’s controlled from the front. We never put controllers for the lights in the front in the back. This way if there is any issues with connection at least when your in the back, your back there and the same goes for the front. It’s not likely you’ll be messing with the app in the front to work your back lights
The front is one to cover 200ft and the back is another to cover 150ft. Whenever one controller is used for that feet run, same applies for power boxes

Hello
Can I extend extention cord and light strand (between bulbs) around 20ft for 200ft Pro version? Did you test something like that?
Yes you can but keep them less that an Govee extension length
What’s the max feet of line or lights that can be put on 1 transformer????!
Mine are not holding to hardy board and staple gun won’t staple through it. Any suggestions
@@jbsdiytv Thank you for responding so quickly, I was literally about to drill after work, much appreciated.

Are you running power in 2 directions on this project?
Yes. Client bought 4 boxes of the Pros 100ft but we just used the controller and power adapters of two boxes. The front and right side had 200ft and the back and left side had 150ft
Buen video, can You put pro power suply to version 1?
Thank you for watching. I haven’t tried it but if you don’t mind me asking…why would you use the power box pros on the 1st generation lights? Seem redundant
To try to add more strings, becouse pro power suply si 3A, First gen is 2A@@jbsdiytv
@dulux69 I see, yeah just verified it but like I had mentioned in the video, the only difference is the connection is not the same for the adapter and controller with the first generation. 1st gen has the 3 prongs and the pros have an auxiliary connection

Can I also inquire about the Govee lights installation? What do you think about Govee vs Jellyfish lights?
Jellyfish who?🫣😆
@@jbsdiytv :D I am debating between the 2 but don't know what the differences.
Thank you again.
can you tell me what clips did you use?
Take a look at my Govee/AliExpress short video
@@jbsdiytv Thanks JB. Will try pilot hole anchor and screw combination with Gorilla Heavy Duty Construction Adhesive.
How much do you charge ( leander area)
Can you run 200ft on a non pro govee lights with one contoller? If I use 2 seperate 100ft, can I just group the 2 controller in the app and run it that way? TIA
Hi there and thanks for watching. You can’t run 200ft on the 1st edition lights. The controller/app reads 9 segments only which is 150ft. If you use two 100ft, yes you can group them. Only thing different is that there are certain functions you have to do individually for each device and then set a schedule for them
Do you install in Houston? Or know anyone that does?

Since we spliced in the back, we hit yes to calibrate the device
We have not done installs where the eaves are showing. We have rejected these installs as wood work will have to be done to accomplish the installation.
Thank you for your comment and support to our channel.
@@jbsdiytv so one(front) power brick is connected in attic and one(back) outside?
Yes that is correct. When there is no attic space, there is no choice to place them securely under the eaves. The waterproofing box we typically use was sold out and it was time for the install. We plan to go back a waterproofing box because we will be back in that area installing Govee lights
@@jbsdiytv sounds good. Im in same situation. Bought 2x200ft pros. Was thinking to bring both bricks to attic. So basically both 200 ft will go in different direction from attic or some how. I dont know. Not sure how it will work.

Im planning to install mine but I measured it is 200ft more or less. Im planning to use the govee 1st gen. is it ok to use one power supply for 200ft? Thanks
You cannot run 200ft on the first generation lights. 150ft is only 150ft. The 100ft can run an extra 50ft
You said one controller for 200’. Did that change with the pro? I thought you could only run 150’
Cost for the installation of 150 feet govee pro black?
Hi I just bought the 200’ pro . My question is I’m placing the on the first and second story , do I need two controllers for the first and second story? And if so will they be in sync? Or should I try and hook them up using only one controller? The jump up to the second story is far so I’m not sure how long I can make my jumper?
It is difficult to know what your layout of your home looks like as each scenario is different but I do always recommend one controller if it’s possible. Do you have any other social platforms that I can DM you?
I’d be worried going over the roof what if you need a new roof someone has to remove the wiring ?
Thats one thing we ask our clients if they plan to get any new roofs anytime soon. If it ever came down to that, the roofer can unscrew the connections off the extensions to the lights. In your case since you live in PA, I would find other methods to run them through your attic along with the devices
Did you connect 2 100’ lights with 1 100’ controller?
Two 100ft on one controller
they only come with 1 12 foot extension cable, how did you get 2?
The client bought 4 boxes of 100ft pros. Two boxes were put in front. That’s 2-12ft and 4-4ft extensions available to us. Then in the back it was 150ft that’s another 2-12ft and 4-4ft extensions. We install Govee for Texas residents so we alway have extra accessories as well

Thanks!

what color is that? yellow?
No this is all natural warm white from the Govee Pros. They use their own LEDs to make warm white while the no pros use other colors to make whites
Does the controller have to be placed anywhere specific?
@@jbsdiytv Thanks! I have 150’ pro version with one controller.

@vincedenbu Not really, since the volt/amp is low enough. If you do long stretches, 18awg may be slightly better
How much did you charge to install those lights?
All depends on your home layout. Every home varies. Message us at our social media links at the top of our TH-cam channel
How much do you charge for a 150ft installation?
Every house has different peeks and jumps. We have been running $1000-$1500 during the offseason but that’s just a rough estimate guess

That’s correct
Did you use two controllers or just one?
On this installation, the front has 200ft and that’s on one controller. The back was 150ft and that’s on another controller. We shoot to always have the controllers for the front so it’s controlled from the front. We never put controllers for the lights in the front in the back.
