    Hi Linda I just discovered your podcast and I have to say I get very excited when I find out the podcaster is Canadian. I love your idea about picking out 12 months of socks I really need to do that to whittle down my sock yarn! Always makes me chuckle to hear Vancouver gets snow! That was a big dump for you guys. I currently live in the Okanagan but as soon as my house sells I’m moving back to Calgary! I miss the sunny skies. But mostly it’s easier to travel from there to visit my kids and grandkids. I love that you are celebrating a 60th year! I just recently turned 62 and was born in 62 so celebrated my 0:07 beddian birthday! I didn’t even know that was a thing!! I had a 60th covid birthday so my family still owes me!! I look forward to hearing about your celebration in August. And now I will go and watch your podcast from the beginning! I also knit a lot but I do feel better knowing that I take my dog for a 6 km walk first! I don’t feel quite as lazy… enjoyed your podcast! Looking forward to watching them all and catching myself up! Happy knitting in South Surrey!!

      Hi Susan and apologies for the very very very late reply! Interesting , and not surprising, you are moving back to Calgary. Moved my mo back to the lower mainland in 2020 due to all the fires…she does not miss the smoke (or the snow) at all. Hope you get your 60th bday celebration at some point. Keep in touch and happy crafting🤗

      Hi Susan - apologies for the very late reply…you might get this response twice as I replied but the response”disappeared?…Anyway - Interesting you are moving back to Calgary but not surprising. Mom moved back to the lower mainland in 2020 to get away from the smoke…and does not miss the snow either. Glad you have a canine companion to keep you moving..miss my buddy every day. Keep in touch and happy crafting🤗

    Hi Linda, I love the way your Bermy basic test knit is coming along, it looks fantastic the way the marling is happening. I admire how you just put those 2 yarns together in different fibre contents and that you love the fabric it has made. You go girl!!! Oh, I was also going to say, I know what you mean about knitting all day!!!! WooHoo!! I only allow myself to knit twice a week during the day, once when I attend a knit group, and then once at the knit group I host here in our development. In the evenings, if I can get away from my responsibilities, I’ll knit an hour before I start dinner, then hubby does the dishes while I sit and night the rest of the evening, sometimes until mid-night or 1am.

    I made the Lunenburg in L & L Rustic Heather. I have found it has softened with wear. Not next to skin but fine with something underneath. I find I also have problems with necklines being too big.i now try to reduce # of stitches and then return to pattern after ribbing. With sweaters already made I have done a single crochet around the cast on edge and found that works.

    Hi from Ontario! I've knit the Lunenburg sweater with Lichen and Lace. Love the look of the sweater. I do wear a long sleeve T under it, but I always do that with sweaters, so I don't generally worry about softness.

    Borrow from Borrow Box the audio "My Life in France" by Julia Child that was made into a film. Merry Streep played Julia. Julie was an American who married a frenchman, lived in France and learnt french cooking. You probably know her well, cooking show and 3 books. Not so well known in Australia. The sweater looks like a velvet texture similar to the texture when my dog is clipped.

    Hi Linda, I made the Lunenberg sweater with the Lichen and Lace sport and I love it. It is the yarn the designer used for the original sweater and I used the same colour combination. The yarn is rustic, for sure. The base is from Briggs and Little and dyed by Lichen and Lace. I find it scratchy, but not itchy, if that makes sense? I have washed it a few times and I feel it has softened somewhat. I wear a t-shirt under my pullover and it doesn't bother me one bit, but everyone;'s tolerance is different. I'm turning 60 this year too and your goals going forward certainly resonate with me. Happy New Year to you and thanks for your fun and informative podcast.

    Ah. I've not knit with Lichen and Lace -- they have at least 11 yarns in their Ravelry stable -- BUT I've been a knitter for almost 64 years and have worked with all sorts of yarns. I also worked p/t in an LYS for 7 years. **The key word on the label -- which I didn't hear you say when you showed it -- is RUSTIC**. In following your podcasts, I've noticed that you knit a lot with Merino.
    Even lower-end Merino is softer than most Canadian wools. That's because Merino sheep hail from Spain, and have been exported for breeding to other southern climates, including Australia and the southern US, but aren't generally raised in Canada. Merino fibres produce very soft yarn, which felts easily (unless treated to be superwash), drapes beautifully, and doesn't wear as well as sturdier, more 'rustic' wool. That's why your merino socks -- if not blended with enough nylon, or with other stronger fibres, will wear out sooner than basic wool/nylon blends.
    Canadian indie dyers love to use merino because of it's hand and its dye absorption. NOTE the if the label says "100% wool" but never mentions Merino, it's likely got 0% merino in it. What you've got there is "woolly wool" -- it's probably a blend of wools such as highland wool, Suffolk, Dorset, or other breeds. It's not meant to go next to your skin. It would make a great outer layer sweater, a shawl (such as a Scottish hap), a cozy hat (unless the wearer is bald), gloves or mittens (hands don't usually need wool as soft as cheeks and necks do). You could even pair it with some nylon or stronger fibre (like silk) for fairly sturdy socks. But no...not if you want a cowl on your neck or a sweater worn simply over a camisole or light, short-sleeved shirt. If you want that, stick to merino, BFL (Blue Faced Leicester) or blends that are less "woolly". Lichen and Lace carries those yarns too -- and you'll notice that they are at least twice the price per skein (200 grams of their worsted weight 'Pressed Flowers', for example is $28 for 200 yards; Rustic Heather Sport is $14 for 215 yards. It's Canadian wool, alright -- the Merino was probably sourced from Nevada or California. (see wool.ca/page/merino-sheep ) 😊

      @forthefunofknit5322  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you Margaret..this is fab info. The label simply states 100% canadian so yes….. NO Merino…which I knew when I purchased. Have decided to go with it understanding i have to wear a shirt underneath. Fingers crossed for a beautiful festive sweater❤️

    Can you post a picture of your split hem where you overlap the front and back? It’s hard to see in the video. I just read that that technique is very common in traditional Danish sweaters!! There is a book with pictures of sweaters in museums with that: Traditional Danish Sweaters by Vivian Hoxbro. It is a great book with tons of stitch patterns and some beautiful sweater patterns too!!

    Wonderful episode! I've wanted to do the Festive Yoke for a couple of years, but, like you, I had a yarn fail. As for socks...I watch the podcast 3am Knitter(out of Nova Scotia), and she is doing a year-long KAL for which you go through your Ravelry library and pick out 12 sock patterns and allot one for each month. I have a lot of sock patterns in my library, so I'm in! One of my picks is the Herding Cats docks, so I'll be double dipping with your MAL!

    I always am excited to see a new episode pop up!! You certainly have a lot on your needles, as well as many projects planned!! I am trying to knit a sweater and something small at the same time. More than that stresses me. I agree that I wanted some fast finished projects in January, so I made some baskets for my daughter and daughter-n-law. These were kits I bought quite awhile ago--I'm trying to knit stash this year as much as possible. I love your festive sweater plan--breaking it up into manageable pieces. I too find that I can knit all day and not move!! Not a good thing. I do try to get on my treadmill at least once a day. Enjoy the rest of January!

    Hey Linda, my lichen and lace is sock yarn and it was wonderful to work with. I made the Vellicor by Andrea Mowry using it along with some other yarns. I still have some. I found I am very sensitive to wool that is not superwashed. Don't know if it is because of my psoriasis or not but I have to wear something under anything that is not a superwash wool.I don't usually mind unless it's a short sleeve spring/fall top. Linda, I am stopping this podcast three and one half minutes into it to say you have definitely inspired me in my knitting craft. What I have enjoyed about your podcast is the realistic tone you set. Some knitters I enjoy watching are so intentional and precise. I do enjoy that for factual information and developing skills but your attitude about your knits is what inspires me more. You enjoy your craft and admit that sometimes a garment doesn't fit you exactly right or you don't love the yarn or somehow the outcome is not what you expected. You laugh about it and move on. That has validated my own experience and taught me to love the process and accept the outcome regardless. I've been much easier on myself as a result. So a big thank you for that. I also love your style. You make 60 look amazing!!!!

    Just a thought, since I don’t have the pattern, but looking at the projects for the Smokeshow Vest, it looks as if there are three triangles right at the armpit. Would it be easier to start decreasing inside those triangles to bring your stitch count down for the width of your shoulders? On the front then you may just have the one main cable going up to your shoulder then, that’s okay. Just a thought, maybe do a swatch and see if you don’t mind the look of that considering it would be under your arms. Trying to think outside the box too so you don’t have to work with another’s stitch count. Best of Luck and I look forward to what you’re going to do. I’ve put it in queue.
