Hi Linda, actually you did succeed in inspiring someone to knit. Me! I had lost all of my urge to knit. I was an avid knitter and crocheter from my childhood until my late 20's and then it kind of went by the wayside. I never lost interest in acquiring patterns or even picking up yarn here or there over the years, but I'd start a project and then it would get laid aside and essentially forgotten about. I probably have the world's largest WIP collection, since I am now 63. But it wasn't until I started watching your channel, that my enthusiasm returned for knitting. You were the first TH-cam knitting channel I watched. I liked your philosophy on making mistakes, and your love of colour, not to mention you are just plain fun to watch. From there I went and picked up my knitting needles again as I watched you, and even started watching other knitting TH-camrs. I took on some pattern tests, met and made friends with the lovely owner and staff of the local yarn shop (until then I had only bought acrylic yarn at Walmart or Michael's), and got acquainted with some absolutely gorgeous fibres I had never tried before, or had convinced myself I couldn't stand to wear (which I now love). I've completed several projects, and knit my first pair of socks and gave them to my husband. He had only been asking me to knit him some for 37 years. 😂 My crochet loving friend, Terry has been accompanying me to the yarn shop too and is discovering the new fibers as well, and just yesterday our other friend, Kathy, excitedly informed me she could hardly wait to start knitting some sweaters and a blanket. I had taught her the German long tail twisted cast on last week. She had been noticing that Terry and I knit or crocheted sometimes when we got together, and were always talking about it to each other. I think she felt left out because she wasn't a confident knitter or crocheter yet. She had been taught by her mom to knit, but just knew a few basics and a very tight cast on that had no stretch. So now that she knew how to do a stretchy cast on, and learned it so quickly, she knew she could learn to knit just about anything she wanted. And also because of my renewed love of knitting, my 5 year old granddaughter informed me she wanted to learn to knit so she could knit a scarf for her doll ( after I taught her how to knit a few stitches on her grandpa's sweater that I was working on. She had been asking to try it quite often, but I always had complicated things that I was working on. But Grandpa's sweater was quite basic and perfect for her to try knitting on.)So I gave her some needles and yarn and she cast on and knitted her first row (then we ran out of time, but I know she will continue the next time I go to babysit her and her little brothers. ) So actually, indirectly, you have inspired at least 3 people to knit, and maybe even 4, since my crocheting friend, Terry, asked me for a couple of mixed knit and crochet patterns I had. The domino effect goes on, all because I watched your TH-cam video the first time a couple of years ago. So don't ever think you don't inspire anyone.
What fun to see you back and all your sweaters. Nine!! Quite impressive!! I love your Stripes sweater and plan to make one with my minis--maybe even 2! Congratulations on 4 years of podcasting, your upcoming birthday, and to all the winners!
Happy 2024 Linda. That was a fun fashion show, I really enjoyed it. Also, now I have a few more sweaters to put in my knitting queue. Not that I needed more, lol. Thanks for a fun podcast.
Love your Boxy Blue sweater! Your modifications make all the difference that results in a great fit so it is not too wide before splitting for the sleeves. All 2023 sweaters are beautiful …. Thanks for sharing!
Happy New Year and Happy Birthday Linda 🎉🎉. Loved seeing all your knits from 2023. Can’t wait to see your Emotional Support Chicken knitted up! I’m considering making one for my Youngest Grandchild. Take Care ❤
Hi Linda, this was so fun today, loved seeing all the sweaters that you knit. The Stripe sweater is so beautiful. Looking forward to 2024 and all the inspiration that you bring to my knitting. Take care
I always enjoy your podcasts, thanks so much for posting! All of your sweaters are lovely and you are inspiring me to perhaps jump into making one....maybe ... lol.
Thank you Linda, for this podcast. Don't say no to your last intention of 2023. You definitely inspired me to knit and knit and knit. This coming year I'm thinking of participating in the mystery gnome knitting because of you as well. Thank you for your inspiration❤
I enjoy watching "everything I made" type videos because they are inspiring and often I miss some great patterns on my own. I chuckled to myself when you brought out the start to you emotion support chicken. After watching Needles at the Ready I bought the pattern and got the yarn and decided I was making my knit group chickens for Christmas (who am I getting Christmas presents decided and started in January). I'm also currently knitting on the Rainshceck vest. Looking forward to the second half of this 2 part series. And I'm on the hunt for yarn for my festive sweater knit. Have a great week.
Hi Sharon- the chickens are addictive and lucky knitting group! Cant wait to see what your festive sweater pattern choice is (“should you decide to accept the assignment”) - lol
I am a brand new subscriber as of today and I am so glad I found you! And You can definitely count me In on the list of people you have inspired to knit! So you can definitely go ahead and cross that one off your list! You are wonderful I love your energy and you are very very inspiring to me for sure!❤
Lovely podcast Linda, and I love your striped sweater. Are you going to mention on a later podcast the sweater you left behind in Spain, because I am going to try and knit it sometime in 2024. Oh, also Happy 60th!! I wish I was that age again. Lol!
Happy new year Linda! I can say, You inspired me a several times in 2023! And I'm sure I am not the only one! So "check" for your goallist! 🙂Love your videos 💕
I really enjoyed your podcast. It was fun to see what you knit last year. And I am hoping to make an Emotional Support Chicken very soon! Maybe I’ll enter it in your All Creatures Great and Small MAL!
Congratulations on your birthday and anniversary! I really enjoy your podcasts. Your knitting, attitude, and travel are so enjoyable. Would you please list the vest MAL you mentioned in the podcast? Thank you!
Happy birthday! Mine is this week, and I'm trying to choose a birthday cast-on...I've narrowed it down to two choices. I'm taking part in a KAL hosted by the 3am Knitter in Nova Scotia...it's to use sock patterns in your library and use one per month...one of my picks happen to have animals, so I'll be able to double dip!
Happy birthday. Your skin is very beautiful and you look much younger than 60. I enjoy your podcast and appreciate your eloquence. We are considering the move to Spain or Portugal, so I especially liked your clips from Spain. There is something special about European towns and food. I was brought up in Poland and go back every year. We travel in Europe as well, so I can relate. I was knitting a lot as a teenager and just picked it up about a year ago. Love it again! Congratulations on your podcast anniversary as well!🎉
All your sweaters are gorgeous and look great on you! Well done! So funny about the emotional support chicken, I just finished my third one as you were showing yours! I made two as Christmas gifts and then decided I needed one for myself. 😂I saw them originally on Chevyrell’s podcast before Christmas.
Congrats Bonnie! So glad you watched and contacted me… I felt so bad having accidentally deleted the email! If you have not already done so, please send me your mailing address. Have an awesome day!
Great podcast Linda. So happy to hear about the festive make a long. I started a lovenote sweater with sequins before Christmas. Unfortunately I had a mistake and needed to rip back . So this caused me to put into the naughty pile . I only have about 4 inches finished and need to rip back 6 rows. So yay a reason to do it. Thanks for your podcast and giving me inspiration. Happy knitting.
And I like your new knitalongs. I did a festive sweater knitalong last year and did it too in 10 parts throughout the year, it was so much fun! Maybe I will join yours (let’s see what pattern I can use).😃
@@forthefunofknit5322 hahaha maybe…. indeed great minds, because it is so much fun knitting on a garment like that. And you can do lots of other projects besides it, that’s what we like too, right?😂🤣
The recap of all your beautiful sweater knits was really fun, Linda! I love how your summer tees fit and it's making me want to revisit some of the patterns I've bought. Choosing the right size is so important. This is the year I decide to swatch before diving in, perhaps? ;)
Could you please do some suggestions for beginner sweater and also pattern friendly as from what I understand not all designers write them with beginner’s in mind 🙏🏻
Hi Linda, thank you for sharing your sweaters from 2023. Love them all! I have one question: How do you account for the less number of stitches when you end a v-neck higher up than in the pattern?
That is a very good question…I think I ended up with 12 less stitches than called for. I made no adjustment only because the sweater is so oversized it did not occur to me to adjust….so technically I have fewer stitches in the front than the back. For me the overall width seems to be fine (no warping or pulling) probably because I always add extra stitches in the underarm (more than required). I I ever knit a closer fitting v-neck I will have to take this into account👍
Love the review of your knits. Just wondering why you did not include the Boxy Blue sweater. I really like that pattern and have yarn to knit it. Are you happy with your one?
Sorry for the late late late reply!!! Only 23 episodes in total - I’d”not match dates and episodes exactly as I missed a few days. Hope the New Year is treating you well. 🤗
@@forthefunofknit5322 - I was afraid that I’d missed seeing your finished Toft characters. Since I commented I watched your podcast and saw the adorable crew. You did a fabulous job with them. I don’t crochet but I sure appreciate the creations that others make. Two thumbs up from me! Joanne in Airdrie, Alberta. 👍👍
Oh Linda. How fun is this! Yes yes to the festive yolk. It’s been on my list for ages. What is your 10 step program : ) I just bought lichen and lace rustic Heather sport to knit the Artus shawl! It’s lovely rustic wool . Happy New Year. Carla from Kamloops
I would love to know your thoughts on Boxy Blue. I want to make one. For the all creatures great and small would it be okay to make something like Acceleration Cardigan by SweaterFreak?
Hi Linda! I am a terrible person, too. I intended to do some charity knitting in 2023 but just didn’t. I guess I struggle with finding a good cause to knit for, and a good project for that good cause. Why not schedule some sort of charity knit-a-long where everyone participating will knit and donate the project…? Just a thought. I’d love to use my knitting for something other than for me. Nobody in my family likes knitted items so I’m always just knitting for myself. Brenda
Well Brenda.. you and I get to be selfish together… will consider a charity mal as it is a good idea… maybe…. Just maybe… that will motivate me… we shall see - lol🤗
What a treasure trove of fun beautiful sweaters!!! Congrats on 4 years!! Looking forward to the gorgeous makes you come in 2024!!
