Can user name and password field be left empty cause I have not put password on it and I don't want to put one. When I tried just filling user name and leaving password field empty it didn't work
One item that bears mention if you plan to reconnect after restarting your devices. You need to go into your LAN adapter settings and assign a static IP to the desktop PC "server" that you intend to connect to, otherwise, when it is restarted it may pull a completely different IPv4 address from the DHCP server (router).
Before, in Windows XP, i didn't need to do extra things: 1) Tap "scan" in LAN menu and wait for ES File Explorer to detect your PC in the local network. (Or add the server IP manually with the "New" button) 2) When the PC is found, tap on the icon with the exact IP number of the PC. 3) All available shared items including the shared folders of this PC are shown and ready to be used mutually. But, in Windows 7 SP1, i had to do some additional steps: 1) Tap "scan" in LAN menu and wait for ES File Explorer to detect your PC in the local network. (Or add the server IP including the subfolder manually with the "New" button) 2) Now, when the PC is found, tapping on the icon with the exact IP number of the PC, doesn't work and gives error. 3) We have to enter the exact folder location to the "server" line. 3a) The default shared folder in Win7 is "/users/public". So we have to edit the server item found on step 2 like this: "192.168.x.x/users/public" 3b) If you want to use some other folder or drive, then open sharing option for it as shown in the video first (Don't forget to add "Everyone"). Then add a new server with its exact target, for example: " "192.168.x.x/abcde" Additionally; if you don't use a password to login windows, then select the "Anonymous" option in ES's server properties. Therefore don't forget to choose "Turn off password protected sharing" in PC's network settings. Lastly, if you want to access the phone from windows, then use the “Network > Remote Manager” option of ES file explorer. You can enter the given ftp address on the address bar of Windows file explorer or your browser. I hope this information helps at least some people.

I must take issue with this because on installing the ES File Explorer on my Android phone the front end doesn't show the screen you indicate with any icon top left or any list of options that show network. It simply functions as a file explorer of files on the Android phone and its memory card. Looked at all menus none of them point to network. So now what can be done other than uninstall the app as it isn't doing the function required of it.?
SOLUTION: Turn off "Password Protected Sharing" in network and internet settings in the "All Networks" options to bypass Username and Password error :)
you would use password for Homegroup with shared files or User password. If you were accessing User specific folders, in that case i think you may get a double prompt for password if im not mistaken. Dont know for certain i been usinh cloud features for such tasks.

I just want to copy files to my phone but using a cable to copy and paste does not seem to work either because that's just my luck. It just freezes when I try to copy anything. Nice Video but it only works if you have a user name and PW setup for your PC. I had to create another account and put a username and PW to make this whole thing work.

there's another way if you want to share files to your android devices without typing a password, to do so, you need to disable the password protection sharing,
when i access this from my android device i get login fails the wlan is off; smb server is out of network scope; the ip is invalid; blocked by the firewall; smb service is off. what do i do about this. it has worked on every other device except this one
i found a solution to needing a username and password go to network sharing center and then click on change advanced sharing settings then scroll down to password protect sharing and turn it off and that should solve it, it worked for me.
StealthyMonk perhaps in theory you are right, but in practice, if the information is sensitive, you should not have put it in a shared folder anyway. Sharing sensitive info is indeed risky business. But for the casual user, he wants to share his music and movies folder to watch from any device. It is best to always assume that your shared folder will be hacked and even deleted(has never happened to me, but I always assume it will).

If you get "error, cannot find the server" It's because you either dont have a homegroup set up or you have the login/pw wrong. 1. go to start menu, type homegroup 2. click on homegroup 3. create a homegroup 4. go to "change advanced sharing settings" 5. go down to "all networks" and click on the arrow to maximize the section 6. click on "turn off password protected sharing" Then go on your phone and use "anonymous" and it will work fine.
es file explorer will now charge the customer to use LAN service. Its become bloated anyways over the years. Use VLC media player if you just want to stream.. You can stream files to your tv via chromecast using the vlc app on your phone that is connected to your LAN on your pc

If you are trying to move music to an SD card, you first must move the music from your PC to your internal card, then move the music on your phone from your internal memory over to the SD. Don't use ES to transfer files to SD, it won't work.
To manage android phone data, Coolmuster Android Assistant also works great, it could transfer sms, contacts, photos, etc. to computer in few simple steps, have a try
after all those error cannot find server finally I got solution for me on windows 10. I open window defnder and turn off firewall on my private network.I would not recommend to do this on public network.make sure your network is set to private.

oh yes, that is a default requirement for windows if you want to do file sharing.
+Jack selecting anonymous does not work. just gives you the log in again and again.

i found a solution to needing a username and password
go to network sharing center
and then click on change advanced sharing settings
then scroll down to password protect sharing and turn it off and that should solve it,

this worked just fine for months until some day it stopped working, couldn't connect to the server, don`t know why... My laptops connect just fine.
after all those error cannot find server finally I got solution for me on windows 10. I open window defnder and turn off firewall on my private network.I would not recommend to do this on public network.make sure your network is set to private.
