Yep if you remove the battery you cut the power to the phone and it cant be tracked. All phones now have build it batteries that can not be removed. Simply powering down you phone does nothing and it can still be tracked because it is still receiving power.

This should be the new trend. Removable battery? Heck yeah. Privacy options? Take my money 🔥🔥🔥
I agree.
A phone like this is quite smart, it builds in pretty well all the features people looking for privacy are looking for coupled with a removable (and thus exchangable) battery?! Sold. Keeping two of those spare batteries charged is easier than carting around a 20,000mAh battery pack. I was floored by the switches for cutting out bluetooth, wifi, and the camera - always wondered how Google knew my travel habits while my phone was in airplane mode... because it's not really. I've also seen Windows and Apple devices boot up Wifi to "check" or even download OS updates when the device was not connected to Wifi. The loss of creature comfort apps is probably its largest hindrance. Price is subjective, and those who are privacy minded will find a way to pay for it. The middle-ground option certainly seems like the easiest and widely available course of action. Apple has been using sandbox environments to protect from malware and such, why can't deGoogled Android do much the same when it comes to using Google services like Maps? Not a programmer, don't know... but seems like a shoe-in.
I'm not using my phone more than to call and text pretty much, and I'm not in the loop at all about phones. The Last time I bought a phone was around 2008. I had no idea that batteries wasn't removable anymore! When did this happen? My friend gave me his old Samsung Galaxy S5 that I'm using now when my other phone died. I miss the keys though, I don't like touchscreen.
This reminds me of Thinkpad features like wifi on/off switch and webcam sliding shutter.

It probably wasn't the best of times for them to send out a review unit. The software is still a huge work in progress. The camera doesn't work... there's no good GPS app... When more people are truly how their privacy and identities are being compromised, many more will steer towards open source. Thank you Aaron for your viewpoint.
What app store asks you for payment info? I have never done that and I have used Samsung for years.
we have to remember, at least the older of us, that android started as a wonderful open source project totally dedicated to Linux. The huge acceptance from the user started the idea of marketing data mining... so romantic idea back then.
@TP-Force Google made some closed source software for Android, they do not own Android it is still open source. You are free to dig up or compile your own version for your phone. Works like any other Linux distro.
@TP-Force There exist Linux tools for making an Android distro for PC and few phones and the Raspberry pi aswell. The problem is that phones don't use standardized hardware so likely no Android driver exist for parts of your phone and often the manufacturer, put in bootloader locks. However on the phones where it has worked, there are distros which can just be installed. A good place to look is the "Cyanogenmod", which uses a custom kernel and all other parts can be chosen, so you can opt out of all Google software if you like. I did this to a Huawei Y5 some time ago and besides having 4.8GB free of 6GB memory, as there was no background services, standby time was 16 days on a charge, but I needed to install apps as .APK files without a playstore, but the phone was faster than an octacore high end phone.
@@Tore_Lund nah google literally owns android.
@@Tounguepunchfartbox nope they dont they only own their services but not android itself this is also the reason why huawei phones still run android even though they are banned from doing business with us companies because they literally dont have to do business with google inorder to get android because it is open source
@@Tore_Lund You don't have a clue what you're talking about. Google owns Android, but it's still open source. Android has nothing to do with XDA.
Edit: I just wanted to elaborate. Android is a project created and maintained by Android, Inc. which was aquired by Google, LLC. I'm not sure if Android, Inc. is still a thing or if Android is now provided directly by Google. Anyway, Android is developed primarily by Google employees, but there is some code written by AOSP contributers. AOSP contains no Google products/services, but Google services are normally pre-installed along with any manufacturer specific bloat ware. Android is not like "any other Linux distro". It uses the Linux kernel and that's about it.

Ironic right
I mean pureOS is pretty standard full GNU linux desktop . Only the apps were really modified with libhandy to make them more mobile friendly .

@Edmond Schwab it's a bit more complicated. Linux isn't technically in any way derived from UNIX (as in the original UNIX operating system), it just uses similar interfaces and as compatible to the POSIX standard. Most people would call it unix-oid or *NIX/UN*X. macOS is similarly not really derived from it, though as I understand it shares a considerably closer relationship to UNIX (and it's not really related to Linux at all beyond that common inspiration).
Thanks for the video - I think it should be pointed out that manufacturers could easily put in a keylogger or a screen reader in the BIOS and we'd never know, and/or 'security agencies' can likely hack the phone even if back-doors are not built in by law/tacit agreement.
There is no such thing as online security, never forget that though one can lessen the intrusions, so various defences are defo not all a waste of time. Cheers.
I am so glad I ran into this video. The flaw of the open source phones are the users, not the service providers of the phone.
People don’t often work for their own security and privacy through a linux distro as they are provided service through Apple and Windows and Google.
Coding to a lot of people is the equivalent to math and writing and reading and learning another language.
But that’s the challenge that we have to face if we are the ones to give service to ourselves in an open source community and share our own codes to others to boost security, applications and settings and even connectivity from our computers to another device.
The more people learn to code for themselves and provide their own data from their computers to their phones, tablets and even TVs and other computers, we wouldn’t need to be baby fed the same formula from Big Tech giants.

Worth noting that Linux (along with the PostmarketOS project) will allow the lifespan of an android device to extend until it physically breaks.
That being said, Librem 5 has a different ethos to the Linux philosophy. (the same could be said about the Pinephone) basically allowing developers to grow the software and improve open hardware. Once it's mature, these phones can be environmentally friendlier.
Anbox kinda works now, so even if you're missing some Android apps, that is a workaround for things you simply can't live without.

If you think someone clicked on the video because they were interested instead of just being curious, you need a reality check.
yeah it would make it easy for everyone to copy to post their source code but it already public as soon as they launch the app you can see the source code for any site in any browser or android phone for an app using dev options on both
so their code is not very private they dont want you to see it but they have no choise but let you see it and that's also how you look for 0 day exploits straight in the source code
Can you design apps with it like one does on any other Linux system?
2:34 "Open sauce" and shows him opening a ketchup bottom, is very underrated
Is he using Soure and Sauce as the same word? Also, how is Ketchup a sauce???
@@evilmansin a.k.a tomato sauce if you didn't know 🤣
@@jacobspeeds tomato sauce is tomato sauce, there is a lot of other stuff in there....
British accent is funny sometimes
In future it my work . I would buy Linux phone for old people who just calls and texts , but even than its much cheaper options . Also I would buy Linux phone for my self but I loose to much apps it's still better android phones .
"Open Source"

Open sauce
I wish my girlfriend is open source. She's so hideous...
"No Ketchup, Just Sauce." :-D

Also de-googled OSs often can only be installed on a specific phone like a pixel which is a big problem
I think only things that matters to me is youtube (without ads aids) and google maps since lot of driving (no ads i want to focus on driving than skipping ads)
Arun : *Google Nexus* running *Linux*
Google : Wait! That's illegal
That's legal actually u can even uninstall android from ur device using a custom recovery 🤣🤣
There actually used to be Nexus phones that ran Ubuntu back in the day
I love this channel... but the "Lie-nux" kills me...
I’ve heard it both ways - Psych

It's funny how "Linus" and "Linux" only have one different letter and they are pronounced completely different. English is broken
Linus sponsored video........
ARUN: well... how do i say that this vid is sponsored by you in a low key manner????
LINUS: just mis spell LINUX as LINUS
😂😂😂😂😂
Love the idea, but Linux always gets bogged down in the 27 different ways to skin the cat. I deal with family members daily asking me "why did it do that?" "what happened to my [fill in blank] app?" with Android or Apple devices.
I think you are acctualy allowed to close source some content on linux as long as the main functionality of the system is open source.
No one :
Literally no one:
Arun : *Open Sauce*
LMAO
ahem
Potato open sauce project
