For ads that are baked in for product sponsorship like on Linus Tech Tips, you skip those by pausing the video, scrubbing past their ads, pressing play where you think they are done talking about some razor or whatever else. While scrubbing with either the remote control, your finger, mouse, you will still see a thumbnail version of the ad in the playback status bar. A nice way to seek the parts you are looking for or looking to avoid. But the audio is muted during this type of seek operation. The other option is to avoid using the LAN port on the TV itself. Instead, use the HDMI input to connect to your computer. Then, using Firefox, you go into settings to add "AD Block +" to that browser. man, this subject is getting more and more complicated. Technology is changing so fast, old methods stop working and new methods appear every single day. The truth is...this requires a multilayer approach. There is no ONE method out there working in 100%. At the end of the day is all about what service are U using. Is it Netflix, is it Roku, is it just YT ... and from now on you need to focus on that ONE thing, how to block ads on this one service. Those big companies are not stupid, they see a "new method how to stop ads" and they are on it. That's why people are so frustrated why it's not working, this is fake, etc. But the good news is...whatever the problem in the IT world is there is a SOLUTION, maybe not NOW but will be tomorrow. When I was doing my first video about blocking ads that method was working like a charm. It still works but not like it was before. That's why I made another video and another only about HOW TO BLOCK ADS. All those methods I represented are great but again...they will not cover everything. What I am doing every day? 1-I am not using apps built in a SMART TV. 2-I have a small computer connected to the TV via HDMI cable and I watch all the content from there. 3-that computer has a DNS server+firewall+brave browser+ads blocking plugins. 4.I found an online service that I am happy with [content, quality, etc] and I watch content from there. I am doing everything to avoid using apps like Netflix, YT etc. YOU need to have control of them, not the opposite. have a look here: th-cam.com/video/l_j8mxRxDtU/w-d-xo.html from 22m. Basically, this is what I am doing. hopes this will help. thx for the comment mate and if U want to talk more I'm here. cheers!
This actually worked! I honestly did it fully believing that it’ll fail but I had free time on my hand. I needed to stop the ads from game apps on my Samsung TV and this fully sorted it out 😂 It’s odd because you get like a black screen for a couple of seconds as if the app is trying to connect or display an ad but fails. Then the game continues and no ads. Cheers mate! I’m not big on commenting but you bloody deserve the positive feedback!

I think on average before I see the end of the timer, adverts take about 5 mins. The issue is that every advertiser increases the volume on the TV because they know your OFF to the kitchen to make a 'cuppa' to get away, so 'UP' goes the volume. So in answer a device to recognise the volume increase is needed because I believe its as SOON as the adverts initiate

NordVPN can’t directly block ads on your smart TV, especially the ones that play during live TV or within streaming apps. It’s mainly designed to protect your privacy and secure your connection. That said, NordVPN does have a feature called CyberSec that can block some annoying ads and protect you from harmful sites when you're browsing online, but it won't get rid of ads that come from TV broadcasts or apps.
Guys, recently I made another video about SMART TVs. Let's go to another level of ADS blocking with even SMARTer TV >> th-cam.com/video/l_j8mxRxDtU/w-d-xo.html
I have a Vizio Smartcast E55-E1 I tried both sets of DNS servers, the first one made no change. The second one caused serious lag, intermittent connection and still showed ads...😫 I had high hopes!
@@ShadowofTheAlmighty hmm noticed that this method is not helping for apps like YT, NETFLIX, etc. due to HOW those ads are handle by the service [basiccly ads and content we want to watch is coming from the same location/address and that's causing DNS like adguard to fail. What app are U using to watch content? The good news is you have a TV with an android system and that's giving a HUGE advantage. You could install apps like VANCED or a different launcher for your SMART TV. Unfortunately, I do not have TV with the android system to test this out.
@@ShadowofTheAlmighty very interesting. thx for your comment. I just read many positive comments about this app and few reviews. Looks like it is a VPN with the adblocking feature. How can I block TH-cam ads on Hisense smart tv, I dont get them on my computer, but I like to watch TH-cam on my big TV, and these annoying ads just keep popping up, it ruins me watching the videos I like, 6 ads in a half hour video is stupid...
Thumbs up on an informative video. I despise ads like many others but I have no where near the time wasted like the sample shown on your video. 6 ads, 2 minutes is madness. The ads I get are about 14 seconds and then it shows a button to cancel the next one and resume the show. But they pop up out of nowhere cutting off the show. Even though the show continues right away it's like listening to a song skip and interrupts my chain of thought. On one youtube video they kept popping up every 3 minutes at one point! This DNS# didn't work for me on all channels, not TH-cam and Tubi, but it seemed to work on Exite, the 80s music video channel. I have a new Samsung smartTV which I don't call smart because I want easy watching TV, not all the hassles and gadgets. Anyway a bigger problem I have is I can't connect my computer on this TV to use as a monitor. I want to use the big screen for internet surfing/streaming, emails etc. It doesn't see my HDMI to VGA adapter like my other 2018 smart TV did. Do you have a video that helps for this? I tried HDMI 1 and 2 and the icon on the TV displays an "unknown" message on both.
thx man. This whole situation with ads is getting ridiculous. I'm afraid we will end up like heroes from the TV series *Black Mirror* episode * Fifteen Million Merits*. I am happy that this method works with some of the apps that you are using. Unfortunately, it's not working in some cases like YT. I made this video more than a year ago and now things are different. A multilevel approach is necessary. That's why I made 3 different videos about this/3 methods. But those companies are not stupid, there is a new method they will eventually find a way to block it. But the general rule is this: never use their app. As soon as you use their official app that's it. For YT there was something called *youtubevanced* but it's not working anymore, for Spotify I also had something but again it's not working anymore. So I am always trying to find an alternative way to connect to that content. What I am doing now I represented here: th-cam.com/video/l_j8mxRxDtU/w-d-xo.html [from 22 min]. Basically, you need to use COMPUTER to watch TV content. The web browser like firefox or Brave with uBlock Origin and a good site with a huge library of movies, tv-series, and shows. That problem with HDMI .... I hate adapters, they will always cause problems. You might need an adapter like this here www.amazon.com/Monoprice-6191-VGA-HDMI-Converter/dp/B008CR0S50 [but no guaranties]. Ideally, you need a graphic card with HDMI output. That is 100% success. What motherboard do you have?
@@hardwin82 Thank you for reply. I solved the adapter problem by contacting the company on Amazon and the lady was very helpful and credited me so I reordered that same brand and the newer one worked. So now it's back to blocking ads on smartTV. You are right though I get zero ads on YT with adblocker on my desktop computer and I would have to watch from that to be ad free. Disappointed that I can't load adblocker on the smartTV as easily!
TH-cam still showed me ads the first time i opened a video, but it worked after, seems to be a noticibly less ads overall. Also thanks for the lesson on programing lol
Hmmm interesting, others here are just saying that it doesnt work for YT. I also feel like it might work, same as you 1 ad at the start still but the constant ads during videos seem to be gone. Maybe :D
so the add block fix you are describing is to connect to a sketchy dns server located in Russia? lol, not likely !! people be aware that the same way they are blacklisting those adds for you they can also redirect legitimate sites to hoax sites. If I were you I'd put up with the adds and use your trusted dns server from your ISP.
You are right. Russian hackers are not a joke! But seriously... everything on the internet we could say is sketchy. Every internet service! We could distrust Google or Cloudflare, or our own ISP provider. These days everything is about the community behind that and a good name. So far AdGuard has earned huge trust. If you are concern about that try a different DNS server. Remember ... we are using this to block Ads on TV, not for internet banking, PayPal, etc.
You can't manually change your Roku TV's DNS settings, but you can change your router's DNS settings . also you can use amazon fire stick instead of ROKU and change DNS there.
My god and I thought my ads were annoying. I only get a banner ad on the home page and an ad whenever my tv is in screensaver mode. Mind you i have a different tv but still
In my Amazon firestick, it also asks for DNS 2 while editing in advanced settings. What should I fill there? Also, my IP address, and Gateway is different from yours, should I keep it as it is, or copy yours?
It must be opposite day. Because we all expected a two minute video. Not two minutes of commercials, coffee drinking, and discussing a new game. The description literally says "two minutes" Video is over twelve minutes. So no, he doesn't get to the point "quite well"
ads on home menu hmmm. Interesting question. Not sure BUT try this method: th-cam.com/video/LGEjiKbX3Ts/w-d-xo.html YT - it's not working on YT due to how they handle ads [on their own servers]. But you can also did what I did here: th-cam.com/video/l_j8mxRxDtU/w-d-xo.html
@@hardwin82 Thanks. I'll take a look. The only thing I have seen that looks viable is to block the domain names that Samsung or other companies use via the wireless router or another method.
Some people want an explanation of what and how for those who don't we could say it starts from 5 min. Not sure if you know there is a new DNS address? Also, this method has limitations, will not work for YT for example. What app are you trying to use to watch TV content?
Thanks. Nice video. I am looking for a solution how to not watch live TV, which is much harder than just playing VOD. I find hitting the mute button easies the pain at least I don't hear whatever stupid things they have to say about the products, and of course anything I see advertised gets black listed on my future shopping bag so it kind of backfires on the advertiser. But perhaps there is a better way. I tried to train my dog to hit the mute button but he said he has better things to do than watching adverts. Even dogs are smart enough to not fall for this nonsense.
hehe, your dog is very smart! :D mate, I am not watching live TV for almost 10 years. what I am doing I described here: th-cam.com/video/l_j8mxRxDtU/w-d-xo.html Basically there are sites with almost all the content you want, I am just using those.
@@hardwin82 I think whoever develops a gadget that can make it easier to tolerate commercials on live TV, can become either filthy rich or a corpse in the morgue. This is a challenging project for AI (Artificial Intelligence) developers and a solution can only be hardware based something like a robot that can sense when the adverts start and finish. During this "commercial break" as they say, the robot puts on some nice clips like family video clips or play favorite music. I love operas but they last between 2-3 hours and this is the best way to watch The Magic Flute again and again.

Basically, this is what I am doing. hopes this will help. thx for the comment mate and if U want to talk more I'm here. cheers!

If you have VPN NORD would that not block all add on streamingsites? Thank you. greets Nathalie
I have a Vizio Smartcast E55-E1
I tried both sets of DNS servers, the first one made no change. The second one caused serious lag, intermittent connection and still showed ads...😫
I had high hopes!
I added adguard private dns name on my smartphone settings and it drastically reduced the ads.

We were going crazy with all the annoying adds.. Great job, Thank you so muchhhhhhhhh
Thanks for sharing bro.
Nice one.
AdGuard ‘were’ based in Russia but since 2017 have moved their operations to Cyprus 🇨🇾
It's not as if we use our TV to do our banking or anything else important except watch TV.
