Thanks to this channel, I've gained my confidence to play this game again. Been grinding and hunting for a week now, just beaten Diablos. I was intimidated at first, seeing these grand wyverns, but the key, really, is patience. Study their behavior and surely you'll be able to defeat such giants with ease. And Plesioth hipcheck still sucks.

That move didn't kill me because I wore my Akantor Armor all the time. However, I took Heavy Damage for not dodging. How do you even dodge a Nargacuga?
I forgot today is Friday lol. I'm glad they removed the active hitbox on its tail in later games. It doesn't make narga like super hard, I just find it....super annoying haha

Well, I've been doing guides still, I've been uploading on friday for a while now, this is just the first one in a while that isn't a subspecies or high rank version of something I've already covered. tail slam really do be hurtin tho 😳😳😔😔😔 Haha, yeah I carved the tail and was expecting to get hit but he kept jumping around and missing me completely 😅😅 Yeah... the first few times fighting a new monster can be daunting, but once you start recognizing things it's a lot of fun. tbh in the MH Rise demo I was getting beat up pretty bad by Mizutsune, but I kept fighting him and the fight was really enjoyable once I was able to recognize things and avoid them :) What even is a hitbox, right? Don't ask Capcom, they obviously don't know 😉😉 There's a cool video about some monster hunter roars and where they likely got the sound effects from (I can't find it 😢) I'm sure Narga has a bit of godzilla there 😉😉 I'm glad you stuck around for my videos! 😄😄 I really appreciate the support 😊😊😊
I'm actually trying to face him using Gunlance. Never had big problems with LS or SnS, but is pretty hard without their mobility. Gotta learn these i-frames. Thanks for the guide man.
This guy made me panic roll everywhere and punishes very hard when I tried to heal. This fight would've been easier if there were more I-frames. I might make the obituary s armor and some psychic jewels. All for that sweet sweet 50% affinity weapon.

One of the most fun fights prior G-Rank. You can tell the glaring differences design-wise between cugaboi and the charge-spamming squad. After I finish blademaster narga set, I will upgrade to max, attach Evasion+ and use it until narga X cuz I like it so much both in apparel and skillset. Except for stuff like Lao Shang Lung, where I have no choice but to bring as much sharpness (ceanataur set) as possible to spam demonized DB all day long :/.

I never notice that his weakness was fire🤣, so I have a hard time to hunt him. I only have rathalos set back then and devil slicer, then the hunt became eventually faster when I switched to sns corona. Damn,.I love that sword.
Nagacugo.... took me a moment to figure it out, not my proudest achievement... ahem. Anyway, it's a bit funny that I only retroactively learned that Narga was a gen 2 monster; I first fought it on Portable Third actually (my first game). I have an interesting personal tidbit to share about this monster. I got my nephew into Monster Hunter by playing P3rd near him, and he instantly fell in love with Narga's gear - he wanted the armor more than anything, but stubbornly wanted to fight it with a very puny set of armor. Even though I could hold my own against Narga, he obviously kept carting (and we obviously kept losing). It became a bit of a meme, but he's a pretty competent hunter now, able to fight toe to toe with the likes of Deviljho alone.
oof haha, that's a nice story, I can understand that. Yeah, Nargacuga's a fan favorite and finds his way into most of the games tbh, it's cool seeing where monsters come from, like Zinogre from portable 3rd etc.
Hey, so, you can't roll through all monsters roars unfortunately, but it works on most of them. A couple of examples is Khezu and Diablos. Even if you panic dive through them, you'll still be hit once the I frames wear off. Gs can work against Nargacuga but, as with any other fight with GS, you HAVE to have the fight figured out.
Ill try my best not to cry on this one nargacuga is just swifty and strong although he doesn't fly that much he is still something for a monster But hey thanks foe the video this will help out
There you go. It can be really frustrating when what you usually do just isn't working. Sometimes there's just a much easier option that you haven't tried or considered. I'm glad you sorted it out! 😄 Keep it up!
np :) I'd say HR to G-Rank can be a little more dramatic than LR to HR, but it's very similar, for sure. G-Rank monsters have new moves, move faster, and have higher stagger limits meaning they'll be interrupted less. High rank monsters (at least in the guild hall) just have higher stats but are more or less the same as Low Rank ones. High rank village quests use the G-Rank movesets and speed, but use (singleplayer) High Rank stats. It's weird lol When you first go into it, it'll be rough like Low to High rank, but there's a lot of really useful equipment you can get to level the playing field 🙂
I always wondered. Both Nargacuga and Tigrex are relatives (at least they're very similar to each other), so..if Nargacuga is a "cat", so maybe Tigrex is some kind of cat too?
I'm pretty new to mh. Just got gu on switch. Nice video I'm sure some aspects transfer. I love narga fights. Least fav is cephodrome or however its spelled the sand shark... Most annoying monsters to me. Goofy and large hit boxes

Well you are wrong about him not getting knocked down when enraged you just have to match the timing I've tried it more than one time and the chance to get that timing is 6/10 times you should try it
I'm assuming you're talking about using sonic bombs, I tested it and that's true, but it doesn't seem very practical since he's a lot faster. I have literally no idea what you're talking about with 6/10 times lol There's a lot I didn't know about when making this video, unfortunately, like how you can bait the long duration prowl by being far enough away from him. You can also do this when he's enraged, but the timing is super tight and what move he'll do isn't as predictable. When he's enraged, you can focus more on hitting him, rather than looking for a, now smaller, opening to use an item, unless you're using SNS or a weapon that is sheathed a lot like Greatsword I guess.

So I've been hunting this pup many times and still can't get the brain stem and I just realized that in order to get that one must cut off its tail and carve. I should stop bonking and start slashing. 2 more thunder sacks to upgrade my devil slicer.
Haha yeaah... getting the brain stem is an ordeal. If you're trying to make the narga weapons, you can upgrade them from tigrex weapons without the use of a brainstem. For the ranged and armor though you'll still need some T.T

I played the hell out of this game and the Narga has been one of my fav monsters forever (Tigrex #1). Good video but, why are you making tuts for this game in 2021? Its an old game and with how many improvments each new game has added I cant imagine many people would play the old ones these days, do they? Iv been playing since MHF2 and had a blast but iv really enjoyed the quality of life mechanics added in each new generation, also the charge blade.
It's my niche, it's what people know me for, and more personally, I originally started the series because I was frustrated that there was a bit of a lack of quality guides when I was playing through the game. Any videos that there were just weren't very useful to an average player, either showing something that was way too hard or using equipment that wasn't accessible to us at the time, etc. I thought to myself "Be the change you want to see in the world." and "I could do better than them..." and so I tried, and kept trying. Still trying, and hey, I kept making videos, so I'm still doing it in 2024 😉 I finished covering MHFU, for the most part, and I've been focusing on P3rd since people who play MHFU likely will play P3rd eventually. Ideally I'll be moving on to the modern games, and other games, eventually, maybe after I'm done with P3rd, but they're also more complicated and harder for me to wrap my head around. It'd be smart for me to do that though, if I want any hope of reaching a high enough viewership to take this whole thing more seriously, which is what I'd like to do. Also Charge Blade (and other modern things) is awesome I agree 😄

Yeah, bombs act as sonic bombs, tbh I wouldn't recommend ever bringing a palico that uses bombs, but that's just me. There are reasons to do it, but I much prefer "only weapons"

Yes, I was going to say it somehow but the damage does build up even if he's not enraged. You can do something similar with Burrowing enemies, enemies like Diablos and Hermitaur etc that have burrow animations cannot die while burrowing, so if one is weak and you do a ton of damage to it, if you get a feel for it, you can kill it with a kick or a stone or something because it'll go down to 1 hp but not lower. That's how I killed Diablos in this video, lol: th-cam.com/video/0TyHvPgjC5U/w-d-xo.html In the same way, if you deal a bunch of damage to Nargacuga's tail and get a feel for it, you can figure out when the next hit will cut it off, this may or may not be useful to interrupt an attack, but either way... tl;dr Yes, attack the tail, damage will build up, you can then cut it off easier when it's enraged.
MHFU Hitzones: gamefaqs.gamespot.com/psp/943356-monster-hunter-freedom-unite/faqs/53339 There tend to be some differences between games, so I'd really recommend looking up hitzones for what game you're playing specifically, because you never know. Rajang's hitzones in MHFU are much different than the ones in MHWorld for example. For games like MH4U there's a couple of things I'd recommend, if you can/want to download a program onto your computer, Ping's dex is an incredible program; MH4U: sites.google.com/site/pingsdex/pingsmh4gdex MHGU: sites.google.com/site/pingsdex/pingsmhxxdex There are also good mobile apps to download, check on the google play store, or maybe the apple store? Can't speak for iOS but I know on android there are pretty good ones. If you don't want to download anything, go here instead: kiranico.com/ It's a wealth of information for MH3U, MH4U, MHGen, MHXX, MHGU, MH Stories, and MHWorld.

I can see about covering other dodgable attacks, I've done Plesioth's hipcheck already, at least lol, and maybe Blangonga's body slam? tbh I don't really dodge through attacks much in MHFU, but I could try and cover roars.
One thing I’ve noticed with narga is that most of the time you’re not really I-framing the attacks, at least the tail sweep and wing slams. I say that because the window to dodge them is far larger than your 7 frames of invincibility. My theory on that is that the hitbox of the move is actually pretty high up so that when you roll, your own hitbox gets low enough to just go under the attack, I’ve also not been hit by those attacks when just staying in shield with my lance because once again you squat a little bit when shielding which makes you go under it. Not to try to downplay anyone, just don’t get too cocky because you’ve dodged narga’s attacks, other monsters aren’t so well designed
lol ok Nargas hitboxes are, for the most part, pretty clean, fortunately, so yeah, you can avoid some attacks by chance and by just standing in the right place, I have clips of that posted on twitter. However, I'm absolutely not rolling *under* the tail when he does the tail sweep. The tail and his wings have active hitboxes that move very fast, and if you were to crouch, to lower your hitbox, you'll still be hit by them because the hitboxes are larger than the model, like in most games. When attacks are only dangerous to you for a couple of frames, of which you can be invulnerable by rolling, they are easier/possible to dodge through, that's the case for plesioth's hipcheck as well. There are cases where I avoid the attacks by just not being hit by the hitbox, but people are definitely rolling through his attacks.

most monster's tail hitboxes were removed, like the rath's tail during the taunt animation (where it slams the tail into the ground and growls at you)

Yeah... the first few times fighting a new monster can be daunting, but once you start recognizing things it's a lot of fun. tbh in the MH Rise demo I was getting beat up pretty bad by Mizutsune, but I kept fighting him and the fight was really enjoyable once I was able to recognize things and avoid them :)

This guy made me panic roll everywhere and punishes very hard when I tried to heal. This fight would've been easier if there were more I-frames. I might make the obituary s armor and some psychic jewels. All for that sweet sweet 50% affinity weapon.

One of the most fun fights prior G-Rank. You can tell the glaring differences design-wise between cugaboi and the charge-spamming squad. After I finish blademaster narga set, I will upgrade to max, attach Evasion+ and use it until narga X cuz I like it so much both in apparel and skillset. Except for stuff like Lao Shang Lung, where I have no choice but to bring as much sharpness (ceanataur set) as possible to spam demonized DB all day long :/.

I never notice that his weakness was fire🤣, so I have a hard time to hunt him. I only have rathalos set back then and devil slicer, then the hunt became eventually faster when I switched to sns corona. Damn,.I love that sword.
There is also the Monoblos scythe with 1k raw damage and 240 fire. It's a good long sword.

Nagacugo.... took me a moment to figure it out, not my proudest achievement... ahem.
Anyway, it's a bit funny that I only retroactively learned that Narga was a gen 2 monster; I first fought it on Portable Third actually (my first game).
I have an interesting personal tidbit to share about this monster. I got my nephew into Monster Hunter by playing P3rd near him, and he instantly fell in love with Narga's gear - he wanted the armor more than anything, but stubbornly wanted to fight it with a very puny set of armor.
Even though I could hold my own against Narga, he obviously kept carting (and we obviously kept losing). It became a bit of a meme, but he's a pretty competent hunter now, able to fight toe to toe with the likes of Deviljho alone.
oof haha, that's a nice story, I can understand that. Yeah, Nargacuga's a fan favorite and finds his way into most of the games tbh, it's cool seeing where monsters come from, like Zinogre from portable 3rd etc.

Hey, so, you can't roll through all monsters roars unfortunately, but it works on most of them.
A couple of examples is Khezu and Diablos. Even if you panic dive through them, you'll still be hit once the I frames wear off.
Gs can work against Nargacuga but, as with any other fight with GS, you HAVE to have the fight figured out.

I'd say HR to G-Rank can be a little more dramatic than LR to HR, but it's very similar, for sure.
G-Rank monsters have new moves, move faster, and have higher stagger limits meaning they'll be interrupted less.
High rank monsters (at least in the guild hall) just have higher stats but are more or less the same as Low Rank ones.
High rank village quests use the G-Rank movesets and speed, but use (singleplayer) High Rank stats. It's weird lol
When you first go into it, it'll be rough like Low to High rank, but there's a lot of really useful equipment you can get to level the playing field 🙂
I always wondered. Both Nargacuga and Tigrex are relatives (at least they're very similar to each other), so..if Nargacuga is a "cat", so maybe Tigrex is some kind of cat too?

Well you are wrong about him not getting knocked down when enraged you just have to match the timing I've tried it more than one time and the chance to get that timing is 6/10 times you should try it
I'm assuming you're talking about using sonic bombs, I tested it and that's true, but it doesn't seem very practical since he's a lot faster.

There's a lot I didn't know about when making this video, unfortunately, like how you can bait the long duration prowl by being far enough away from him. You can also do this when he's enraged, but the timing is super tight and what move he'll do isn't as predictable.
When he's enraged, you can focus more on hitting him, rather than looking for a, now smaller, opening to use an item, unless you're using SNS or a weapon that is sheathed a lot like Greatsword I guess.

So I've been hunting this pup many times and still can't get the brain stem and I just realized that in order to get that one must cut off its tail and carve. I should stop bonking and start slashing. 2 more thunder sacks to upgrade my devil slicer.
Haha yeaah... getting the brain stem is an ordeal. If you're trying to make the narga weapons, you can upgrade them from tigrex weapons without the use of a brainstem. For the ranged and armor though you'll still need some T.T

I played the hell out of this game and the Narga has been one of my fav monsters forever (Tigrex #1).
Good video but, why are you making tuts for this game in 2021? Its an old game and with how many improvments each new game has added I cant imagine many people would play the old ones these days, do they? Iv been playing since MHF2 and had a blast but iv really enjoyed the quality of life mechanics added in each new generation, also the charge blade.
It's my niche, it's what people know me for, and more personally, I originally started the series because I was frustrated that there was a bit of a lack of quality guides when I was playing through the game. Any videos that there were just weren't very useful to an average player, either showing something that was way too hard or using equipment that wasn't accessible to us at the time, etc. I thought to myself "Be the change you want to see in the world." and "I could do better than them..." and so I tried, and kept trying.
Still trying, and hey, I kept making videos, so I'm still doing it in 2024 😉
I finished covering MHFU, for the most part, and I've been focusing on P3rd since people who play MHFU likely will play P3rd eventually.
Ideally I'll be moving on to the modern games, and other games, eventually, maybe after I'm done with P3rd, but they're also more complicated and harder for me to wrap my head around. It'd be smart for me to do that though, if I want any hope of reaching a high enough viewership to take this whole thing more seriously, which is what I'd like to do.
Also Charge Blade (and other modern things) is awesome I agree 😄

Yes, I was going to say it somehow but the damage does build up even if he's not enraged.
You can do something similar with Burrowing enemies, enemies like Diablos and Hermitaur etc that have burrow animations cannot die while burrowing, so if one is weak and you do a ton of damage to it, if you get a feel for it, you can kill it with a kick or a stone or something because it'll go down to 1 hp but not lower. In the same way, if you deal a bunch of damage to Nargacuga's tail and get a feel for it, you can figure out when the next hit will cut it off, this may or may not be useful to interrupt an attack, but either way...
tl;dr Yes, attack the tail, damage will build up, you can then cut it off easier when it's enraged.

There tend to be some differences between games, so I'd really recommend looking up hitzones for what game you're playing specifically, because you never know. Rajang's hitzones in MHFU are much different than the ones in MHWorld for example.
For games like MH4U there's a couple of things I'd recommend, if you can/want to download a program onto your computer, Ping's dex is an incredible program;

One thing I’ve noticed with narga is that most of the time you’re not really I-framing the attacks, at least the tail sweep and wing slams. I say that because the window to dodge them is far larger than your 7 frames of invincibility. My theory on that is that the hitbox of the move is actually pretty high up so that when you roll, your own hitbox gets low enough to just go under the attack, I’ve also not been hit by those attacks when just staying in shield with my lance because once again you squat a little bit when shielding which makes you go under it.
Not to try to downplay anyone, just don’t get too cocky because you’ve dodged narga’s attacks, other monsters aren’t so well designed

Nargas hitboxes are, for the most part, pretty clean, fortunately, so yeah, you can avoid some attacks by chance and by just standing in the right place, I have clips of that posted on twitter.
However, I'm absolutely not rolling *under* the tail when he does the tail sweep. The tail and his wings have active hitboxes that move very fast, and if you were to crouch, to lower your hitbox, you'll still be hit by them because the hitboxes are larger than the model, like in most games.
When attacks are only dangerous to you for a couple of frames, of which you can be invulnerable by rolling, they are easier/possible to dodge through, that's the case for plesioth's hipcheck as well.
There are cases where I avoid the attacks by just not being hit by the hitbox, but people are definitely rolling through his attacks.
