@@Crabo99 Yeah I haven't played Rise yet, so I can't speak to its challenge; however, I found World WAY too easy. It got to the point where it wasn't really even enjoyable; at least in Generations it was fun to dick around with its mechanics. Altho World was definitely better balanced, like you said.

The very first time you have to kill the tigrex to progress to the next rank like 5 or 6 ? got me stuck for ages I tried it for like 1 or 2 weeks in a row dropped the game for like 6 months after a while I looked up a tutorial on how to kill that thing grinded the second thunder long sword ( where you have to grind the fkin lightning bug swarms in old tower to get the fluid from them ) and finally managed to beat that thing ... best memories ever
Honestly the long hunt, the grind, the memorising of map and gathering. The anxiety, preparing, discussing and planning before a team hunt, makes it feel more of an expedition compared to the new generations of mh. U feel like youre living in mhfu and needed a lot of patience too😂. Its totally nostalgic
The year was 2010 and my friend Duey begged me to get into MHFU. We played hundreds of hours together. This game holds such a special place in my heart. I love MHW, but MHFU has a certain charm and simplicity that lets me forgive its shortcomings.
Looking back at MH Freedom Unite I didn't realize how tedious it was to mine, catch bugs, fishing, getting bones, and collecting plants. All I remember was having fun playing with my brothers. Thanks for the nostalgia trip
MHFU introduced me to the mechanics of the monster hunter franchise. Shit was so hard that when I had started playing world and rise, I felt like a ninja even with a greatsword. Movement mechanics evolved really well on the newer games.
To me old Monster Hunter games aged like milk inside a thermos flask on a hot summer day next to an active volcano. But at least they still have a certain charm. Especially if you like to whip your genitals with a nettle.
I seriously miss the Elder Dragon fights in MHFU, the fear of fighting rajangs the first time, slicing velocipreys in half, but I don’t miss Plesioth’s hitbox
You know, I think alotta people forget that you used to be able to do that, literally cut Velocipreys in half. The only drawback was that the body would disappear mid-air and you could never carve em
Something I love to this day is having a one on one with Kirin at the mountaintop with long sword. It's almost a dance, each of us feinting and countering the other's movements until a decisive hit is landed. Does anyone else feel this sort of thing with particular monsters?
Nargacuga The first i saw one in MHFU I just absolutely loved him, to the point that I decided to have everything that I could craft with it And i know very well the feeling you are talking about
SnS vs Nargacuga will always and forever be my favorite match up. It's a literal dance between you two, dodging each other and immediately rushing back in to beat the crap outta them
Odogaron with SNS in world, aggressive play style, last second rolling, him flipping and flying, rolling out the way swinging into a combo, sheathing rolling away from a dive then instantly swinging into action again. When world first came out this was a dance and made me master sns combat😄✌🏼
Wild Bacon + Furahiya Cola combo is one of the best for low rank in my opinion *If you guys forgot already or wondering what am I saying, Wild Bacon + Furahiya Cola combo gives the hunter a health increase, something sensible and useful during early hunts on low rank
The Moga Village theme will always be the theme I think of when I think of hub music in Monster Hunter, there is something so relaxing about the theme that I just can't quite put my finger on
World was my first Monster Hunter game, I only picked up Generations Ultimate out of impatience for Rise. Holy crap, what a jarring experience. I mean this video itself shows it all too clearly. But while many good experiences came from me playing it, none are greater than getting to take in the Pokke village theme. I still go back and pull it up to listen to all the freekin time.
I remember seeing a guy on Ad Hoc wearing the sky blue trainer armor you can only get after doing all the challenges and getting the coins. I've never felt such respect for a person in a video game before or since.
lol i remember back in the day when i tried to this game on my brother's psp, and quitting halfway through the tutorial bcs i had a hard time with the camera controls
I remember I had a folder with pictures of all the maps with where the gathering points were and notes of what monsters were weak to. I remember looking at a monsters armor after I first beat it cause I could look at it’s elemental resistances and negative skills to figure out what their weaknesses were. I remember fighting Kushala at the Island, rolling under him and dropping lighting rods and slapping him with my Kirin GS. I love this game so much.
The Final Invitation quest was what separated casual from veterans. Then moment you were struggling with that 1 Rajang and the bigger one comes out of nowhere was the point were you either learn to git gud or you're were going to rage quit the hell out of Freedom Unite But man gotta love how Cats were the true carry back then, more than once my cat landed the final hit on the monsters
My cat epically saved my ass more than once blocking a silver rathalos fireball while I was stunned, low health and had no respawns left poor dude sacrificed his ass for me. I'll never forget that Sanchez 😂😂😂
Bro, when it came to mhfu, casuals wouldn't make it far enough to unlock the mission, mhfu was a true git gudd game that killed anyone who couldn't persevere through tedious 1-2⭐ missions and master the art of stamina cucking yourself so you can dodge some last second bs you should of saw coming for the 15th time
I remember my first hunt for Tigrex. I was just straight running because I thought he will calm after a bit of time, after 5 minutes I realized Tigrex is always salty -_-
No joke one of the best QoL improvements from Gen 4 to 5 was the fact that the alerts don't take up the whole damn screen when you trigger them, been playing Genu and I'm pretty sure I've been hit by a monster I didn't realise was coming because the weapon power decreased notice came up more than I want to admit
The best part about the hit-boxes is you can't just blame them on it being an old game with giant square hitboxes when that velociprey literally clipped into your model and didn't knock you out of the gathering animation. Plesioth was intentional. They wanted us to suffer.
@@zinogre1362 Same. And after being able to roll through his hipchecks, he was one of my favorite monsters to hunt, cause he couldn't do anything to me without those.

MHFU really put emphasis on the FU part. Still, love this game. Probably wouldn't have gotten into Monster Hunter without it. Hundreds of hours of hunting in co-op with 2 PSPs alongside my brother during 5th grades. Good times
People are still playing it now on monsterverse. I used to play mhfu and mhp3 there. Good people and the discord server is very well managed by the mods.
I don’t consider myself particularly a MH purist but there was just something about the level of preparation that there had to be before a hunt that the newer games don’t quite capture.

Now knowing that many veterans learned with these limitations, You have my complete respect, because going through those things and still wanting to play till today is something worth of admire. On my first playthrough rn. Started back on Tri and had never gone further back in the series. Still in low rank, but just took down Plesioth and his dumb green counterpart. Not looking forward to those two Rajang.

We had a fully laid-out plan with pitfall traps, paintballs, bombs, flash and stuns, a full stack of potion AND mega potions but we still get wrecked. As I've gotten a group of my friends into the MH series...
