Same, been soloing through mh4u with weapons I don't usually play, getting to the end of high rank and was mildly dreading Dalam, even though I know he's not that bad.
I soloed it with just the advice that you have to dystroy the parts of the monster. Did it with high rank gear the golden rathian gear with parts breaker and divine blessing included and made attack up medium so I had that if I fainted. I fainted once and won at with 7 minutes and 25 seconds left. Also used that umm blade from that yellow monster that has serated blades. I forget the name. But the great sword recharges sharpness when you roll around a lot. The yellow monster if he hits you your eating jerky or bending at the knees to heal the bleeding. Easier on the time limit than soloing MH4 Ultimate with high rank gear. Now off to G rank solo. Is the dalamadur armor or weapon even worth it now that I've unlocked G rank?
I noticed something interesting as a glaive user. It has really low 'jump' weakness, when I hit it on the head, it almost always topples in the beginning and then 3-4 hits, then 6-8 hits, and so on.
Honestly, I find the Dalamadur and Sha Dalamadur to be amongst the easiest of hunts if not for one thing...those god forsaken meteors! I don't know about all you other hunters out there, but those meteors are a nightmare in my book! >~
THE 5 MUSKITEERS true also there is a (mostly) safe spot in the fight with it, the first ledge on the main pillar, none of its attacks (except the meteors) will hit you if your up there
@@seirramoon388 I didnt fight him but from all I see hes only Attack whit Meteors and his Head, so you sould be save in every spot, except near the head, right? It also looks very easy too me. You can win fast, so no Time out and he dont do much, ore I am wrong?
If you are on top of the tall mountain for position 1, you can jump down right onto the smaller hill for the transition to position 2 to keep up your manicuring duties.
I foolishly tackled this quest in a HR7 room last night and it was probably the most confusing, overwhelming, but immensely epic quest I have ever done. We failed, though. I seriously did not expect the huge laser and carted twice, but it'll probably be my most memorable 4U experience. Thank you so much for this tutorial! I'll make sure my urgent becomes a flawless success.
My favorite thing to do during this fight on the climbing phase is lance charging up him when he's climbable. It might be a waste of sharpness and damage, but it's damn fun running up while hitting him a lot. Also have to be careful not to knock friends off...
This was the first Gajin hunter video I ever saw and what got me into the mh online community as whole. I actually started with 3U, but until Dalamadur I never looked something up. Especially his weapon tutorials for 4U and Gen helped me out a ton back in the day ^^

Cool video. Me and my girlfriend both reached this point together tonight, and did the quest as a duo group with palicos completely blind twice successfully. Once for each of us. NOW that Dalamadur is behind us, I was willing to watch your tutorial video. Thanks for filling in our few blanks. We got the head and the tail both times. I think the claws once and never the shoulder. I ended up using a Sharpness+1, Attack up XL, Speed Gatherer set the second time, because I didn't feel like evasion+1 did me any good, and I wanted dem carves!
gaijin hunter I wouldn't do it any other way, even if spoilers are very hard to avoid in the modern world :D We're both G1 now (two Ukanlos urgents later), so have an entire new difficulty of unknown monsters to fight against. It's exciting!
Oh man. Just now I fought him solo. Broke both claws, broke head, broke back. He killed me twice even though I did dodge everything, but I failed due to time. I shall follow these steps now. I guess I was running like a headless chicken cause I didn't know WTF was going on LOL. Dalamadur - its time for round two! Thank you so much for posting this! I truly appreciate it!
Seriously, every guild card I've seen has the same Main Palico forte breakdown or whatever. I don't even know how to work those damn things, but I guess I've not put much effort into that aspect of the game.
Dom Inic The more palicos of a specific forte you put in the 1st stringer slot, the more it specializes your leader palico (the one you created). The first 3 of the same forte will make your lead become that forte. As in, 3 healers will make him drop healing items, heal horn (more often), and antidote horn. The 4th and 5th of a matching forte will unlock more powerful abilities for the lead. For healing, 4 grants him an occasional stronger healing horn, and 5 makes the dropped items be First-Aid+ more often. You can mix fortes on your lead with 3 of one forte and 2 of another. So 3 heal will make him heal focused with 2 battle will also make him demon horn sometimes (attack up). The palico you deploy from 1st stringers will also behave as their sheet lists for their forte (hit Y for palico info when setting first stringers to read what each ability does). So with a 3 heal 2 battle set up, deploying a heal forte means he'll heal. Deploying the battle means the palico will do the battle abilities like demon horn but will NOT heal because that is not the palico's forte. Each forte also has its own quirks, usually around when the monster enrages. Healers will panic and run in circles (getting hit by you or anything will snap them out of it). Bomb palicos are inclined to enrage themselves and start suicide barrel bombing. The best thing to do is try out each set up and see what works for you. I like 5 bombers for playing gunner (they add nice damage), but tend to run 3 heal 2 what works best for the monster on blademaster. Launch for mounting, support for traps, battle for attack up, defense for defense up, and stamina for the occasional free dash juice buff. Treasure cats are for harvest touring and actually quite helpful in picking up extra goods. Also, cats with block boost and big block boost tend to live longer and poison immune palicos are a HUGE help for many of the annoying fights, like pink rathian. Hope this helps.
Tbh I was really glad to see this thing was already dead and wouldn't be a available fight in mhgen Mhgen is my first and only game but I had heard of the dalamadur and saw (what I now know to be it's dead body) in the far distance and honestly panicked I'm hella glad the big boi boss in story mode is hellblade glavy ^-^ its weak when your already used to fighting something actually powerful like astalos or the dragons

sapphireLagiacrus _xXx_ 615 If I may suggest, get a blast IG and eat for felyne Pyro. Considering how annoying it is to get the 3 essences from him, getting the necessary amount of DPS without them to down the lizard is hard. But the blast element and some bombs help a lot killing him. For suggestions, the Brachy IG is pretty good. but if you're in the mood to be evil, do the subquest of the Dalamadur fight: his IG is excellent and blast element. Good luck, Hunter!
Gaijin, for what you said at 1:35, I dont agree. You can go to the head, evade the roar and then when he starts moving (newbie players usually jump on him and then get kicked imediatly...), you do a ledge jump attack on the body and start wrecking the weak part of its body (behind the tail) that moves in the corner.
It should also be noted that everything except for the massive fire breath attack can be blocked. His bite attack, the falling meteors and even the massive fireball he spits at you are all blockable.
When I went against Dalamadur blind (before video), all my years of Monster Hunter experience basically was chucked out the window. I was like, "How to I even......" for most of the fight. He got me with the beam once, but thankfully my instincts were good enough to take him out after 45 minutes (I actually did most of the stuff in this video, aside from the breaks). A slow solo, but it was the first time I'd even run into him. I couldn't help but think, "AND THEN THERE WAS A FIREFIGHT!" halfway through. Tutorial is spot on, thanks for the great tips!
A team of four I had been rolling with for hours beforehand steam rolling everything took this thing on for the first time and not knowing what to do we actually won! It`s nice to see actually how to do it though. Really nice video Gaijin as usual! :)
When it's at position 3, or coiled around the spire, it will occasionally lower it's head and mouth. You can time GS charges easily and knock him down very often. Also, he will still take mount status and will be knocked down if it procs. He always goes down to a single jump attack the first time, as his initial mount threshold is only 5.
I cannot thank you enough for this guide. I tried it once, went in blind, 45 minutes and the bastard wouldn't go down, i f**ked up, took the breath attack and carted, abandoned the quest. Then i found this video and watched it, and with a better idea on what to do, i decided to upgrade my gear before trying again, especially cause my thunder CB wasn't enough. Killed about half the population of stygian zinogres to get his stupid umbrage to make the full armor set (had everything but the chest), then killed like 8 Gore magalas to get the nyctgem and upgrade my GS, once upgraded i actually had enough materials to upgrade it again twice. One more try, a little bit past the 30 minute mark, the bastard goes down. Ended up screwing up thanks to the camera and got only 4 carves. That being said *F**K THIS QUEST*. The only thing higher than this f**ker's hp is the designer who decided that it should be a kill quest only, instead of letting you repel the damn thing. Camera screwing you up in the worst possible moments, random meteors cause aparently the random explosions with Shagaru Magala weren't retarded enough, and criptic to the point you will NOT pass this quest your first try if you don't watch/read a guide beforehand. All of this would not be an issue if you could at least repel this damn thing or if it at least wasn't a damn urgent quest holding you from going to G rank. This isn't hard cause his atttacks do a lot of damage, or are hard to dodge, again, i carted ONCE on my first time out of frustration, that led me to take an attack i could definitely dodge. This is hard cause this abomination of a boss fight has more hit points than everything in the game this far, and if you don't attack specific points over and over without wasting a minute he won't. go. down. I heard some people talking about Lao shan lung in the first game being worse or just as bad like this, but from the little research i made, it says that he can be repelled. Jhen Mohran in 3U requires to know what you are doing as well, but on my first try without knowing anything and with subpar equipment i managed to at least repel his ass. The closest thing to a road block i got in this game so far was Shagaru Magala, and even then, all i did after failing once was upgrade my weapon since the problem was not dealing enough damage to him. F**k. This. Quest.
+mafagafodoacre33 Gogmazios solo is even worse; higher HP, moves around more, and hits a lot more. Took me 45 mins to kill Dalamadur with a lance, but i was probably like 3/4 away from killing Gogmazios when i ran out of time. Had to go online, and it still took 50 mins duo with a high lvl player.
+Sorichuudo I actually beat it on my first try. Other than the breath attack (which is utterly brutal, I'll admit), this is a pretty easy quest, and is more of a setpiece than a real battle. Then again, we all have our personal moby dicks in this game. For my part, I raged for days because I couldn't seem to kill the Pink Rathian. It was a soul-crushing battle, even when I managed to barely survive the fight countless tries later.
I love you so much for posting this! I had the "WTF is happening moment" yesterday and costed my team the hunt. I'll try to learn a thing or two from this video.
This fight is great, so many clutch running dives through hyper beams and snake bites. It's so cool, you're fighting a giant star snake that can summon (annoying) meteors down from the sky.
Notes for self: 1:20 start. Turn around and attack tail. 1:48 Snake moves - turn around and attack the large spike 2:06 snake moves again - climb up a little and attack it a little when it stops, dodging meteors that come. you wont do much damage right now. 2:30 snake will leave. He will return and do his bite lunge. when facing snake's head, you want to have him pass to your right. aka stand in the safe area. 2:40 snake does the biting lunge. now go attack the large scale.. dont climb i guess? 2:53 snake disappears before HIS BIG SPIRAL CLIMB. Here's where there are options 3:11 break that big scale on his back. 3:26 jump on when red arrow appears 4:00 you'll fall back into Camp when you break it. Gaijin broke it in one "cycle." When back in camp, grab 4 anti-dragon bombs to place on his back later 4:12 if snake's tail is nearby, attack it briefly after climbing back up from camp. 5:23 you can also ride the snake most of the way up before jumping off onto some higher vines. From here, use the red arrows to jump onto its head, carving it and attacking before being knocked off. place anti dragon bombs on your way up. 6:30 after the big spiral position, it will move to another spot. climb the smaller pillar rock to attack a claw.... or get the tail if its not off already 7:24 from there, snake moves again and will do laser blast. superman dive. 9:37 snake will loop those positions until arnd 50%? HP. You'll know it has transitioned once he breaks the smaller pillar rock. sharpen at this time and eat Might seed. uh oh i'll have to revisit this. failed once due to time. failed again after 45 minutes (carted three times when he was in his final phase for a long time)
And the Dalamadur skeleton in the Rotten Vale is far larger than this one. This is just a young Dalamadur, imagine having to fight one as big as the skeleton found in the Rotten Vale.

It took me five attempts to solo him in High-rank. Gladly im done with him now. And thank you Gaijin Hunter, your tutorial helped a lot. Still took about 40-45 minutes to kill him with my trusty Insect Glaive. Now on to G-rank!
This tutorial is excellent, and I learned quite a bit here. Looking forward to my rematch with this guy. I just did my first fight against this guy earlier today. I did some research ahead of time, but it was mostly just Kiranico data (like his semi-weakness to Blast, which I decided to try out with my Teostra Spada set), and knowing to dive through the lasers. I had to leave via sub-quest at 40+ minutes in, after using up all my healing items, and only barely avoided getting hit by a meteor on the way out. Still, I got him to ~10% or less health, since I saw a meteor spawn one of those mining nodes, which isn't too bad for a first SnS solo run. Especially for a scrub like me, who didn't move with the rhythm of the fight at all, and misremembered the weakness tables, thus often not attacking the correct spots. I went for the chest, thinking it was the "weakness" I remembered seeing on the tables. I think I'll be able to kill it next time, between your advice, using my Dragon SnS instead of Blast, and actually hitting it where it hurts.
Lol I feel it dude. I've fought the guy about 7 times now. All failed, in rooms with randoms. I died once. My first time facing him. I'm going to solo now with this guide because the amount of time I've wasted just isn't worth it anymore haha.
No matter how many times I watch tutorial videos like this I never understand until I do it myself....BTW those first time battles are some of the best moments in the game IMO.

I'm proud that I was able to beat this Monster on my first try, even though it took 44 minutes. Thanks to this guide, next time it should be a lot quicker and easier!
That, and not to demean your tutorial any, but you say the fight can be done in 15 minutes.. ..You're using G-Rank equips on this fight. That cuts time SUBSTANTIALLY. I don't think 15 is a reasonable margin of time for high rank equipment...

Broke everything in this video bar the head with my dragon SnS and dragon atk+3 then wailed away for the rest of the 50 minutes and ran out of time. Completed it online, with a G-rank hunter while the quest poster hid in basecamp, but when it came to my turn we triple carted. This quest is serious bullshit and testing my enthusiasm for the game.
I tried blocking that super laser using a Lance shield with the Guard Up armor skill. Y'know, for science. Long before I watched this video... In fact, as I'm writing this comment, this is my first time seeing this video. lol Apparently that laser doesn't count as one of the "unblockable attacks" Guard Up can protect you from. So, as you would expect, I got hit. It didn't even seem to matter which way I was pointing my shield. Oh well.
People really need to watch this. I understand that breaking everything is optional, and anyone could wail on anything they wanted, but i almost never find a good party for this quest. I had a party of 4 once take 25 minutes on the shah (i guess the subspecies would be harder, but i've done that fight in 15 minutes before). Half the time i just get people in my room who die all the time and 3/4 battles will be failed. Granted i've died battling shah before, but when someone dies twice... two fights in a row... i often wonder how some people made it to g rank. *ahem* sorry for the rant. Its a great video gaijin! Really clears up some questions :) As a gunner, i found standing up on that "perch" is a really good spot to shoot from, because you can hit him from almost every position.
going into this for the first time today I basically timed out and had to complete via subquest, using master sabers and tetsu S armor, but damn I must've gotten close since rocks dropped twice. Well under 10%......knowing you were like an inch away from winning is nasty af
Best Asura ARAD Well after a 2nd attempt I'd like to actually state otherwise: I don't know how trustworthy those percent marks are for behavior: Supposedly Dalamadur destroying part of the map happens at the 50% mark and rocks drop at the 10% mark. At least one of these is not true: Dala dropped two rocks for me before breaking part of the map.
I've been in 2 successful hunting parties to take down this beast but this is very helpful, now i know where to best position myself rather then charging straight in

Actually as a Gunner running twords the head is a good idea if you can get onto the platform that you jump on his head from dalmadur himself will never attack you and you can sit there and wail on him trust me I do this a lot
I've come here 8 years later because I am so confused even in all other games I've played, soloing monsters felt DOABLE but for Dalamadur, it took me 45 minutes on my winning try, despite being as aggressive as possible I'm truly confused as to how I'm meant to do this in 20 minutes, there was nothing more I could have done, it felt like it was a lot of fun, but I'm gonna have to come back to the high rank version with g rank gear because good lord did that take all afternoon
I need 8 Pectus+ to max out his Bow, but I never seem to get any of them, and we make sure to break his chest every time. For the past five runs, I've gotten three Dragonsphires every time, but not a single Pectus+. In all the times I've killed him, I've gotten thirty Dragonsphires and only three Pectus+.
The hand hit around 11:05 is so much worse on Shah as he heats the ground with it. I failed 5 hunts yesterday on him and several of those where me carting to that hit after 2 others carted earlier.
They really need to give more time on Dalamadur and Dah'ren to carve. They're huge and have multiple spots. It's not right that the only way to get all the carves is to have a Carver ability, or skip the cutscenes.
I just did Dala for the first time and legit lost myself in his body. I was like "ok got the body carves now to the head! fuck it's not this way. Not here either. FUCK MAN I DON'T SEE A THING WHERE'S THE GOD DAMN HEAD! Oh there it is maybe I will get at least one ca.. *QUEST COMPLETE* OH SOD IT!"

It took me two tries to beat Dalamadur, myself. (Solo.) First encounter, full Shagaru set + Shagaru CB and it took 30 min just to break the head, got carted twice; after which there was only 1min left on the clock so I retired with just the subquest. Second attempt was abandoned after a poor start (
This helped a lot! I just arrived to this mission today and I was getting tired of people dying to the hyper beam online, so i decided to kill it just by myself.
Thank you for making this tutorial, I just got to this mission and was running around like a chicken with its head cut off. After watching your video I have a much better sense of how the fight works.

Even though the dalamadur is quite a peculiar monster, that tutoriel makes me expect that you will do the same for a few more difficult/particular mobs. That would be great !
I'm rank 7. The only rank 7 hunts I've done are the Deviljho, silver Rathalos and gold Rathian (and the Magala...obviously, it was the urgent). Joined a group of other rank 7's. They chose this quest. After being totally overwhelmed and clueless to where I was even supposed to begin attacking this thing, I found a nice little corner that seemed safe enough to take refuge and sat with my light bowgun hoping for the best. I died 3 times.
Went into this fight completely blind, and basically fooled around without really knowing what to do. 45 minutes into the mission I was almost going to retire in order not to lose the potions and stuff I've used, when suddently BAM! He died XD Thank god I waited lol.
Wow great guide, i went into this with a blind solo and expected it to be the size of a najarala or teostra, but instead he was a giant...i just sat there and went for whatever parts i could hit with my insect glaive (i should've used a great sword but keep in mind this had me very surprised/ in shock). He eventually dropped for me, but boy those tips wouldve made him much easier ! At least i unlocked G rank though... But im gonna need to co op him if there's a g rank rematch for him, it would take too much to do him alone on G rank and i dont just mean getting one shotted
Very useful video. I just got around to fighting this thing on an emu after initially giving up on the 3ds version back when the game came out. Playing this game with upscaled textures is a vastly superior experience to playing it on the 3ds. I'm playing this on a steam deck which is a double treat. This thing took me 2 tries, with the GS cheda blade+. First attempt I timed out but I think I got it to around 10%. Second attempt, I watched this vid and was able to kill it in 34 min :).
There's a cheat way of dealing massive damage to him - you wont break off any parts though. Use like a greatsword or whatnot and just hit whatever body part you can on the edge of the map, just off the hot water on the lower zone.Its pretty safe too!
I solo'd Dalamadur because I wanted to see how the fight was like and didn't want to embarass myself running around aimlessly. To my surprise, Dalamadur is similar to Mohran as its fight goes in a scripted loop with very easy telegraphed attacks. This video nonetheless is helpful in providing the different breakables and strategic areas that i obviously didn't know during my run.
For people wondering about fighting it with an Insect Glaive: I just did it with the Shagaru Magala IG with the Blue Kut-ku armor (this means no Sharpness +1). First time I exited with submission at 48min, the second time I killed it at 42min. You don't have to care for the red bug unless you're hitting his head, otherwise you just hit him normally even if you feel that it's slower. When you're hitting the tail or the claws you probably won't be able to hold the red buff for a lot of time, so try to use the glaive like a normal weapon. Also, it was the first time that I found the pheromones useful for marking the head. And you can use the bug to detonate bombs if you don't have small bombs.
can't believe my best attempt had him under 10% in the last phase! I was forced to end via the subquest because of those stupid meteors and not able to find a good method of attacking him while afraid of running out of time
I did this mission yesterday for the first time solo. Didn't fallow a thing in your video and beat barely. I had Critical Eye 2 on my gear and my weapon of choice was a Dual Blades which didn't have Dragon Element on it. But in the end I made it to the end and barely beat it before the timer ran out.
i never like to solo a dalamadur, because it gets messy for me. and whenever i go online, there always seems to be some really high g ranker looking for parts.
Very good tutorial 👍 I died the 3. time as there were these stones with items. 2 of my 3 deaths were because the bite attacks, they one-shot me. I think if I do it some more times I don't die so often and this video will help me with this. This with faster collecting materials at the end was new for me too, thanks for this video 👍

I'm doing a no armor, unupgraded brachy dual blades, no palicos or friends run. The meteors are the bane of my existence.
Several times I got hit with a zero to death true combo that consisted entirely of meteors

If you are on top of the tall mountain for position 1, you can jump down right onto the smaller hill for the transition to position 2 to keep up your manicuring duties.
I foolishly tackled this quest in a HR7 room last night and it was probably the most confusing, overwhelming, but immensely epic quest I have ever done. We failed, though. I seriously did not expect the huge laser and carted twice, but it'll probably be my most memorable 4U experience. Thank you so much for this tutorial! I'll make sure my urgent becomes a flawless success.
My favorite thing to do during this fight on the climbing phase is lance charging up him when he's climbable. It might be a waste of sharpness and damage, but it's damn fun running up while hitting him a lot. Also have to be careful not to knock friends off...

Me and my girlfriend both reached this point together tonight, and did the quest as a duo group with palicos completely blind twice successfully. Once for each of us.

We got the head and the tail both times. I think the claws once and never the shoulder.
I ended up using a Sharpness+1, Attack up XL, Speed Gatherer set the second time, because I didn't feel like evasion+1 did me any good, and I wanted dem carves!

Oh man. Just now I fought him solo. Broke both claws, broke head, broke back. He killed me twice even though I did dodge everything, but I failed due to time. I shall follow these steps now. Seriously, every guild card I've seen has the same Main Palico forte breakdown or whatever. I don't even know how to work those damn things, but I guess I've not put much effort into that aspect of the game.
Dom Inic Main palico forte consists of the 1st Stringers fortes. If you have 2+ of the same type your main palico gains a skill of appriopriate type.
Dom Inic All the guild cards I've seen have had nothing special done for their palico. It's like I'm the only one in my area that cares.
DisturbedKoala It's not about caring its just that most people don't know about it. I didn't find out you could change it until last night.
Dom Inic The more palicos of a specific forte you put in the 1st stringer slot, the more it specializes your leader palico (the one you created). The first 3 of the same forte will make your lead become that forte. As in, 3 healers will make him drop healing items, heal horn (more often), and antidote horn. The 4th and 5th of a matching forte will unlock more powerful abilities for the lead. For healing, 4 grants him an occasional stronger healing horn, and 5 makes the dropped items be First-Aid+ more often.
You can mix fortes on your lead with 3 of one forte and 2 of another. So 3 heal will make him heal focused with 2 battle will also make him demon horn sometimes (attack up).
The palico you deploy from 1st stringers will also behave as their sheet lists for their forte (hit Y for palico info when setting first stringers to read what each ability does). So with a 3 heal 2 battle set up, deploying a heal forte means he'll heal. Deploying the battle means the palico will do the battle abilities like demon horn but will NOT heal because that is not the palico's forte.
Each forte also has its own quirks, usually around when the monster enrages. Healers will panic and run in circles (getting hit by you or anything will snap them out of it). Bomb palicos are inclined to enrage themselves and start suicide barrel bombing. The best thing to do is try out each set up and see what works for you.
I like 5 bombers for playing gunner (they add nice damage), but tend to run 3 heal 2 what works best for the monster on blademaster. Launch for mounting, support for traps, battle for attack up, defense for defense up, and stamina for the occasional free dash juice buff. Treasure cats are for harvest touring and actually quite helpful in picking up extra goods.
Also, cats with block boost and big block boost tend to live longer and poison immune palicos are a HUGE help for many of the annoying fights, like pink rathian. Hope this helps.

I'm hella glad the big boi boss in story mode is hellblade glavy ^-^ its weak when your already used to fighting something actually powerful like astalos or the dragons

If I may suggest, get a blast IG and eat for felyne Pyro. Considering how annoying it is to get the 3 essences from him, getting the necessary amount of DPS without them to down the lizard is hard. But the blast element and some bombs help a lot killing him. For suggestions, the Brachy IG is pretty good. but if you're in the mood to be evil, do the subquest of the Dalamadur fight: his IG is excellent and blast element.

Gaijin, for what you said at 1:35, I dont agree. You can go to the head, evade the roar and then when he starts moving (newbie players usually jump on him and then get kicked imediatly...), you do a ledge jump attack on the body and start wrecking the weak part of its body (behind the tail) that moves in the corner.

It should also be noted that everything except for the massive fire breath attack can be blocked. His bite attack, the falling meteors and even the massive fireball he spits at you are all blockable.
The crouch carve blew my mind. In the last 10 years I had no idea about this...
When I went against Dalamadur blind (before video), all my years of Monster Hunter experience basically was chucked out the window. I was like, "How to I even......" for most of the fight. He got me with the beam once, but thankfully my instincts were good enough to take him out after 45 minutes (I actually did most of the stuff in this video, aside from the breaks). A slow solo, but it was the first time I'd even run into him. I couldn't help but think, "AND THEN THERE WAS A FIREFIGHT!" halfway through.

A team of four I had been rolling with for hours beforehand steam rolling everything took this thing on for the first time and not knowing what to do we actually won! It`s nice to see actually how to do it though.

When it's at position 3, or coiled around the spire, it will occasionally lower it's head and mouth. You can time GS charges easily and knock him down very often. Also, he will still take mount status and will be knocked down if it procs. He always goes down to a single jump attack the first time, as his initial mount threshold is only 5.

I tried it once, went in blind, 45 minutes and the bastard wouldn't go down, i f**ked up, took the breath attack and carted, abandoned the quest.
Then i found this video and watched it, and with a better idea on what to do, i decided to upgrade my gear before trying again, especially cause my thunder CB wasn't enough.
Killed about half the population of stygian zinogres to get his stupid umbrage to make the full armor set (had everything but the chest), then killed like 8 Gore magalas to get the nyctgem and upgrade my GS, once upgraded i actually had enough materials to upgrade it again twice.
One more try, a little bit past the 30 minute mark, the bastard goes down. Ended up screwing up thanks to the camera and got only 4 carves.
That being said *F**K THIS QUEST*.
The only thing higher than this f**ker's hp is the designer who decided that it should be a kill quest only, instead of letting you repel the damn thing. Camera screwing you up in the worst possible moments, random meteors cause aparently the random explosions with Shagaru Magala weren't retarded enough, and criptic to the point you will NOT pass this quest your first try if you don't watch/read a guide beforehand. All of this would not be an issue if you could at least repel this damn thing or if it at least wasn't a damn urgent quest holding you from going to G rank.
This isn't hard cause his atttacks do a lot of damage, or are hard to dodge, again, i carted ONCE on my first time out of frustration, that led me to take an attack i could definitely dodge. This is hard cause this abomination of a boss fight has more hit points than everything in the game this far, and if you don't attack specific points over and over without wasting a minute he won't. go. down.
I heard some people talking about Lao shan lung in the first game being worse or just as bad like this, but from the little research i made, it says that he can be repelled.
Jhen Mohran in 3U requires to know what you are doing as well, but on my first try without knowing anything and with subpar equipment i managed to at least repel his ass. The closest thing to a road block i got in this game so far was Shagaru Magala, and even then, all i did after failing once was upgrade my weapon since the problem was not dealing enough damage to him.

+mafagafodoacre33 Gogmazios solo is even worse; higher HP, moves around more, and hits a lot more. Took me 45 mins to kill Dalamadur with a lance, but i was probably like 3/4 away from killing Gogmazios when i ran out of time. Had to go online, and it still took 50 mins duo with a high lvl player.

+Sorichuudo I actually beat it on my first try. Other than the breath attack (which is utterly brutal, I'll admit), this is a pretty easy quest, and is more of a setpiece than a real battle.
Then again, we all have our personal moby dicks in this game. For my part, I raged for days because I couldn't seem to kill the Pink Rathian. It was a soul-crushing battle, even when I managed to barely survive the fight countless tries later.
I love you so much for posting this! I had the "WTF is happening moment" yesterday and costed my team the hunt. I'll try to learn a thing or two from this video.
This fight is great, so many clutch running dives through hyper beams and snake bites. It's so cool, you're fighting a giant star snake that can summon (annoying) meteors down from the sky.

Notes for self:
1:20 start. Turn around and attack tail.
1:48 Snake moves - turn around and attack the large spike
2:06 snake moves again - climb up a little and attack it a little when it stops, dodging meteors that come. you wont do much damage right now.
2:30 snake will leave. He will return and do his bite lunge. when facing snake's head, you want to have him pass to your right. aka stand in the safe area.
2:40 snake does the biting lunge. now go attack the large scale.. dont climb i guess?
2:53 snake disappears before HIS BIG SPIRAL CLIMB. Here's where there are options
3:11 break that big scale on his back.
3:26 jump on when red arrow appears
4:00 you'll fall back into Camp when you break it. Gaijin broke it in one "cycle."
When back in camp, grab 4 anti-dragon bombs to place on his back later
4:12 if snake's tail is nearby, attack it briefly after climbing back up from camp.
5:23 you can also ride the snake most of the way up before jumping off onto some higher vines. From here, use the red arrows to jump onto its head, carving it and attacking before being knocked off. place anti dragon bombs on your way up.
6:30 after the big spiral position, it will move to another spot. climb the smaller pillar rock to attack a claw.... or get the tail if its not off already
7:24 from there, snake moves again and will do laser blast. superman dive.
9:37 snake will loop those positions until arnd 50%? HP. You'll know it has transitioned once he breaks the smaller pillar rock. sharpen at this time and eat Might seed.
uh oh i'll have to revisit this. failed once due to time. failed again after 45 minutes (carted three times when he was in his final phase for a long time)
And the Dalamadur skeleton in the Rotten Vale is far larger than this one. This is just a young Dalamadur, imagine having to fight one as big as the skeleton found in the Rotten Vale.

It took me five attempts to solo him in High-rank. Gladly im done with him now. And thank you Gaijin Hunter, your tutorial helped a lot. Still took about 40-45 minutes to kill him with my trusty Insect Glaive.
Now on to G-rank!
This tutorial is excellent, and I learned quite a bit here. Looking forward to my rematch with this guy.
I just did my first fight against this guy earlier today. I did some research ahead of time, but it was mostly just Kiranico data (like his semi-weakness to Blast, which I decided to try out with my Teostra Spada set), and knowing to dive through the lasers. I had to leave via sub-quest at 40+ minutes in, after using up all my healing items, and only barely avoided getting hit by a meteor on the way out.
Still, I got him to ~10% or less health, since I saw a meteor spawn one of those mining nodes, which isn't too bad for a first SnS solo run. Especially for a scrub like me, who didn't move with the rhythm of the fight at all, and misremembered the weakness tables, thus often not attacking the correct spots. I went for the chest, thinking it was the "weakness" I remembered seeing on the tables. I think I'll be able to kill it next time, between your advice, using my Dragon SnS instead of Blast, and actually hitting it where it hurts.
Just did this solo on my first try with 7 minutes to spare! Thanks for the vid man, it helped a ton.

Lol I feel it dude. I've fought the guy about 7 times now. All failed, in rooms with randoms. I died once. My first time facing him. I'm going to solo now with this guide because the amount of time I've wasted just isn't worth it anymore haha.
Really, I started up a random hall and we beat it two times no problem. He is actually really easy.
No matter how many times I watch tutorial videos like this I never understand until I do it myself....BTW those first time battles are some of the best moments in the game IMO.
Just managed to finish him solo! This guide definitely helped and has got me into using the Great Sword too :D (I have to thank you also for its weapon tutorial and all your other weapon tutorials) Thanks alot for all your videos :D
Also, if you're bad at timing your dives, you can also abuse farcasters to dodge the whole series of lasers/chomps (bring mats to make more)
I'm proud that I was able to beat this Monster on my first try, even though it took 44 minutes. Thanks to this guide, next time it should be a lot quicker and easier!
That, and not to demean your tutorial any, but you say the fight can be done in 15 minutes..
..You're using G-Rank equips on this fight. That cuts time SUBSTANTIALLY. I don't think 15 is a reasonable margin of time for high rank equipment...
yes it can be done with best of HR setups i.e dragon ele weapons or raw GS, everyone needs to know what to do.
It takes 15 minutes with a party of 4 to take him down. He's doing it solo with G rank stuff because it's easier to put out a tutorial that way.

Broke everything in this video bar the head with my dragon SnS and dragon atk+3 then wailed away for the rest of the 50 minutes and ran out of time. Completed it online, with a G-rank hunter while the quest poster hid in basecamp, but when it came to my turn we triple carted. This quest is serious bullshit and testing my enthusiasm for the game.

I tried blocking that super laser using a Lance shield with the Guard Up armor skill. Y'know, for science. Long before I watched this video... In fact, as I'm writing this comment, this is my first time seeing this video. lol
Apparently that laser doesn't count as one of the "unblockable attacks" Guard Up can protect you from. So, as you would expect, I got hit. It didn't even seem to matter which way I was pointing my shield.
Oh well.
Yep,GaijinHunter is right. The "go in blind" experience is awesome (i spent 45 minutes on my first hunt back then).
People really need to watch this. I understand that breaking everything is optional, and anyone could wail on anything they wanted, but i almost never find a good party for this quest. I had a party of 4 once take 25 minutes on the shah (i guess the subspecies would be harder, but i've done that fight in 15 minutes before). Half the time i just get people in my room who die all the time and 3/4 battles will be failed. Granted i've died battling shah before, but when someone dies twice... two fights in a row... i often wonder how some people made it to g rank.

As a gunner, i found standing up on that "perch" is a really good spot to shoot from, because you can hit him from almost every position.
the amount of people hit by the dalamadurp beam is too damn high
going into this for the first time today I basically timed out and had to complete via subquest, using master sabers and tetsu S armor, but damn I must've gotten close since rocks dropped twice. Well under 10%......knowing you were like an inch away from winning is nasty af
Best Asura ARAD Well after a 2nd attempt I'd like to actually state otherwise: I don't know how trustworthy those percent marks are for behavior: Supposedly Dalamadur destroying part of the map happens at the 50% mark and rocks drop at the 10% mark. At least one of these is not true: Dala dropped two rocks for me before breaking part of the map.
Best Asura ARAD this is sort of late, but dalamadur can always throw rocks that you can mine. He just throws them more often when he in 10% or lower

Actually as a Gunner running twords the head is a good idea if you can get onto the platform that you jump on his head from dalmadur himself will never attack you and you can sit there and wail on him trust me I do this a lot

I've come here 8 years later because I am so confused
even in all other games I've played, soloing monsters felt DOABLE
but for Dalamadur, it took me 45 minutes on my winning try, despite being as aggressive as possible
I'm truly confused as to how I'm meant to do this in 20 minutes, there was nothing more I could have done, it felt like
it was a lot of fun, but I'm gonna have to come back to the high rank version with g rank gear because good lord did that take all afternoon
I need 8 Pectus+ to max out his Bow, but I never seem to get any of them, and we make sure to break his chest every time. For the past five runs, I've gotten three Dragonsphires every time, but not a single Pectus+. In all the times I've killed him, I've gotten thirty Dragonsphires and only three Pectus+.
The hand hit around 11:05 is so much worse on Shah as he heats the ground with it. I failed 5 hunts yesterday on him and several of those where me carting to that hit after 2 others carted earlier.
They really need to give more time on Dalamadur and Dah'ren to carve. They're huge and have multiple spots.
It's not right that the only way to get all the carves is to have a Carver ability, or skip the cutscenes.
I just did Dala for the first time and legit lost myself in his body. I was like "ok got the body carves now to the head! fuck it's not this way. Not here either. FUCK MAN I DON'T SEE A THING WHERE'S THE GOD DAMN HEAD! Oh there it is maybe I will get at least one ca.. *QUEST COMPLETE* OH SOD IT!"

It took me two tries to beat Dalamadur, myself. (Solo.) First encounter, full Shagaru set + Shagaru CB and it took 30 min just to break the head, got carted twice; after which there was only 1min left on the clock so I retired with just the subquest. Second attempt was abandoned after a poor start (

I'm rank 7. The only rank 7 hunts I've done are the Deviljho, silver Rathalos and gold Rathian (and the Magala...obviously, it was the urgent). Joined a group of other rank 7's. They chose this quest.
After being totally overwhelmed and clueless to where I was even supposed to begin attacking this thing, I found a nice little corner that seemed safe enough to take refuge and sat with my light bowgun hoping for the best.
I died 3 times.
Went for Dalamadur for the first time yesterday. I would also suggest going blind for the first time you do so.

you should put a quick note on begining telling about dalamadur having 2 camera icons,one for the tail and other for head.
Went into this fight completely blind, and basically fooled around without really knowing what to do. 45 minutes into the mission I was almost going to retire in order not to lose the potions and stuff I've used, when suddently BAM! He died XD

Wow great guide, i went into this with a blind solo and expected it to be the size of a najarala or teostra, but instead he was a giant...i just sat there and went for whatever parts i could hit with my insect glaive (i should've used a great sword but keep in mind this had me very surprised/ in shock). He eventually dropped for me, but boy those tips wouldve made him much easier ! At least i unlocked G rank though... But im gonna need to co op him if there's a g rank rematch for him, it would take too much to do him alone on G rank and i dont just mean getting one shotted
Very useful video. I just got around to fighting this thing on an emu after initially giving up on the 3ds version back when the game came out. Playing this game with upscaled textures is a vastly superior experience to playing it on the 3ds. I'm playing this on a steam deck which is a double treat. This thing took me 2 tries, with the GS cheda blade+. First attempt I timed out but I think I got it to around 10%. Second attempt, I watched this vid and was able to kill it in 34 min :).

Thanks to your advice, I managed to finally beat Dalamadur and get THREE Skyblade Gems in 1 hunt. I only had palicos as my support.

There's a cheat way of dealing massive damage to him - you wont break off any parts though. Use like a greatsword or whatnot and just hit whatever body part you can on the edge of the map, just off the hot water on the lower zone.Its pretty safe too!

I solo'd Dalamadur because I wanted to see how the fight was like and didn't want to embarass myself running around aimlessly.
To my surprise, Dalamadur is similar to Mohran as its fight goes in a scripted loop with very easy telegraphed attacks.
This video nonetheless is helpful in providing the different breakables and strategic areas that i obviously didn't know during my run.
I did the "wtf is going on" and got to the under 10% health. Watched it and now it all makes sense.
For people wondering about fighting it with an Insect Glaive: I just did it with the Shagaru Magala IG with the Blue Kut-ku armor (this means no Sharpness +1).
First time I exited with submission at 48min, the second time I killed it at 42min. You don't have to care for the red bug unless you're hitting his head, otherwise you just hit him normally even if you feel that it's slower. When you're hitting the tail or the claws you probably won't be able to hold the red buff for a lot of time, so try to use the glaive like a normal weapon.
Also, it was the first time that I found the pheromones useful for marking the head. And you can use the bug to detonate bombs if you don't have small bombs.
I just realized how insane me taking this thing on solo with the insect glaive during my first fight with it really was after watching this.
note: an item called the "shattered omen" is mineable from the meteor strikes occasionally

can't believe my best attempt had him under 10% in the last phase! I was forced to end via the subquest because of those stupid meteors and not able to find a good method of attacking him while afraid of running out of time
i justn oticed you can brak dalamadur's back legs remnants, but the part of the map you can get close to them gets broken too early
I did this mission yesterday for the first time solo.
Didn't fallow a thing in your video and beat barely.
I had Critical Eye 2 on my gear and my weapon of choice was a Dual Blades which didn't have Dragon Element on it.
But in the end I made it to the end and barely beat it before the timer ran out.
i never like to solo a dalamadur, because it gets messy for me. and whenever i go online, there always seems to be some really high g ranker looking for parts.

I died the 3. time as there were these stones with items. 2 of my 3 deaths were because the bite attacks, they one-shot me. I think if I do it some more times I don't die so often and this video will help me with this.
