Maybe for Sportbikes. But for Enduros/Dualsports/Adv Bikes (a Term that wasn't that common in that Time :D) it was pure Hell. And apart from Sportbikes, horrible roundish plastic "future" y2k Designs.
That's why I love my 05 CBR 1000rr because it's just so raw and there's nothing holding the bike back except for the rider, I'm glad I bought an older bike! I really want to buy an older GSXR now.
Bought a K6 new and rode it in the Isle of Man for 10 years to me the only place the bike can actually be used, mods were carbon wheels (turns like a 600, improves brakes and acceleration) and a quick action throttle because half the time the only thing holding the bike back is the riders ability to open the throttle quick enough (Yamaha R1 throttle tube fits and works). Such a stable machine, dynoed at 162 BHP. Do you know these things can hit top speed (limited 189mph) in 20 seconds from a standing start and only weigh 162kg (in my case wet due to the wheels) and this is a relativity long stroke motor so pulls real hard mid range and its that mid range that dominates on the road also BMW bench marked their RR1000 on the K5 4 years after it came out!
Literally bought a pristine 04 Yamaha R1 a month ago and I love it. 18 year old bike. 13k miles. But it was my dream bike when I was younger. Already been modding the shit out of it!
Congrats. Very beautiful motorcycle. Most of the bikes you thrash are much younger with far less miles. Please go through this thing and make sure the engine and oil seals are up to your standards. Last place you want an 17 years old oil seal to blow out is going 200 miles per hour. You might want to check the cam chain and chain guides for slop too I see what you are saying about the gearing. It looks like the bike is geared more for interstate cruising not acceleration. I saw it being just a little slower then the bikes you regularly thrash off the line but damn, not by much. New chain and sprockets gives you a definite idea when they were installed and the quality of those parts too. Someone else in the comments section says they think the steering head bolt is not aligned right so it's a fun fest of getting things on this bike up your Gixer brah standards. Gotta check the grease in the 17 year old wheel bearings too. You put your life on the line and nothing can be left to chance. I look forward to the video where you show off the new brakes. I will miss you riding the smaller bikes because you sure rode them like you were running through traffic in your track shoes at 180 miles per hour. Congrats Gixer , on your new classic rocket ship. I just recently got my forever bike, the new 23 GSX-S 1000 and what's really cool is it has this same engine. Suzuki reused the k5 gixxer 1k engine in the new redesigned gsxs and I couldn't be happier with it

Are you clutchless up shifting? Damn it so satisfying to see people on TH-cam know how to do that. You should do clutchless downshiftings too. It works pretty well on gravel roads, it doesn't locks your rear tire.
You'll be able to perfect it over time. Maybe even get that clutch cover chrome plated. Is it flashed yet? Schnitz Racing or Moore Mafia will be able to fix you up on a good flash for more power! I like the older bikes too, that's why I love my 2007 Hayabusa which has H.I.D.s. I like the moon-beam glow!

About topping out 6th gear. The k5 1000 has a top speed limiter and some lower gear limiters as well! You can delete that straight in the ECU or get a healtech powerbox. Did mine with a ECU flash, runs all the rpms in 6th 😬

Lucky s.o.b.! That's my dream bike. Had a k1 1k with everything MPS and Yoshi I could throw at it, including a 40 shot dry kit. Was a monster. Just wrecked my 03 Sabre 1100 four days ago. Had to have my lip stitched back on but soon as that and the road rash heal I'm looking to get back on a rocket. New sub. Keep the paint up brother!
My 02 gixxer thou was by far the most fun bike I've owned, perfect hooligans tool that begged to be abused, best stock exhaust on any bike too! Don't understand why people shy away from getting gixxers and pretending they're the poor man's sportsbike!
That poor man's sportbike now cost almost 15k OTD 😅😅.. the main reason is lack of new technology and although the design is timeless ,it haven't been updated since 2011!!.. despite that it has a cult following..people still buy enough of them for suzuki to keep selling them..I got mine in 2019 with zero miles, fresh out the crate.keeping it another 2 years at least! .. be safe bro
Used to live off Basswood. Back in the day (1986ish) I had a GSXR 750 and a bunch of us would hit 287 just to run from the DPS 5.0 ....... he never could catch us. Check with Twisted Technologies. They got a solid 160 hp on my K6 1000 ..... it weighed less than 400 pounds and was a handful. Now I ride a BMW r1250 GSA ..... I got old !!!! 🙂
11:40. Completely disagree. Been commuting year round rain or shine on an R1. You can take off in 2nd from lights, tall gearing and low end power negate the need to shift so much, cruise low rpm on interstate and never have to downshift to pass. The throttle is like a speed dial. Zero effort and smooth as butter all while getting 50mpg.
I bought a 21 yr old bike! 6,100 miles were on it! R1 2001!!! Looks new! Been happy so far! Garage kept ! Sat 5 yrs not ran etc! Who cares how old! Changed the oil & replaced the 2004 tires! Been riding & smiling like Jimmy Carter!😉🤠😂
It’s crazy the deals you can find on an old mint condition litter bike with low miles. I got a yz1 4000 miles for 2,800 and drove it for years no problems . Only thing is oil and tires.
Just bought my first super sport. 2005 GSXR 600 with 15000 miles Yosh slip on not much else. I'm loving it. Just guessing the litre is a little easier to wheelie lol ? Right now I'm just getting acclimated to this incredible machine. It does exactly what it's meant to do.
I got a 05 GSXR 600 I completely rebuilt and powder coated all the engine covers and shit. It went from yellow to red, black, white. I like it.. and it has k5 1000 headers. And I bought a cheap 30 dollars exhaust and cut it in half to make it a shorty pipe and it sounds amazing and pretty loud..
I had to seem k5 1000 same colour in 2010 15000 km all original + Yoshimura full exhaust. Sold it for 5500€ that was 13 years ago. Price is the same now.
I still ride my 02 Yamaha YZF-R1 1000cc Voodoo racing header with a GP Shorty exhaust, Power commander 3, 2-4" lowering link, $500 steering Dampner, LED head lights, dual rotors in the front. No electronic control modes it's fuel injected it's fast as hell Handles awesome. Just at 39 almost 40 it's not real comfortable on long rides. But that's why I have my Victory Hammer Chopper 1000cc and my Yamaha Raider 1900cc cruiser.
When I was a kid a group of guys used to wheelie gsxrs and r6s like this through my neighborhood. Those were the coolest guys on the planet to my friends and I

You have bought an awesome bike. I have an RF 900 1996 model. Still goes like hell and a great Sport Tourer!.
K5 and k6 my favorite looking gsxr’s 🥰🥰
That poor man's sportbike now cost almost 15k OTD 😅😅.. the main reason is lack of new technology and although the design is timeless ,it haven't been updated since 2011!!.. despite that it has a cult following..people still buy enough of them for suzuki to keep selling them..I got mine in 2019 with zero miles, fresh out the crate.keeping it another 2 years at least! .. be safe bro
No shame man...I just went from 2 90s era zx7s to an 05 zx636 the early 2000s bikes were all gas no brake and minimal tech. Pure riding
ADD at its finest “turtle!” 👀 I feel ya brah🤙🏼
Love the bike!! Def was a year unlike any other!!
Na your silly billy
@@Gixxerbrah Spend some time commuting on that GSXR1000 and you'll know what I'm saying!
I've also been dailying an 08 zx10 for over a year
I bought a 21 yr old bike! 6,100 miles were on it! R1 2001!!! Looks new! Been happy so far! Garage kept ! Sat 5 yrs not ran etc! Who cares how old! Changed the oil & replaced the 2004 tires! Been riding & smiling like Jimmy Carter!😉🤠😂
Almost bought a gixxer, but man literally the one thing that steered me away is the headlight lol,
older bikes have character... my 2002 busa has 68k miles. 10 years ago I pulled my TRE to slow down.
It’s crazy the deals you can find on an old mint condition litter bike with low miles. I got a yz1 4000 miles for 2,800 and drove it for years no problems . Only thing is oil and tires.
Thanks for the content brah we love it over anything keep it up!
Pretty cool to see this build on this bike!
Because it's a F'kin LEGEND!
My 14 cbr 1k isn’t crazy old but has no electronic aids or assists or abs. Just has a slipper clutch and FI.
Gixxer bruh!!!! Man, how your channel grew fam. Keep bringing us that adrenaline rush!
I’d have bought it to lol good to see ya back on the gixxy 🤟
Man I’m excited for this build.
Man the K generation Gixxers are my favorite sport bikes-I still ride my K3 750 daily here in Tx even w/triple digit ambient temps👍🏼
Can't beat the look of a 96 suzuki gsxr 750 srad gold/black.
Gixxer Brah is the peoples champion.
Gixxer brah rises again
Nice bike just got a yellow and black 05 last week!love it
I have a k5 750…it’s hands on, and kick ass all day!! Raw as can be…the K5 is legendary!✌🏼
I had to seem k5 1000 same colour in 2010 15000 km all original + Yoshimura full exhaust. Sold it for 5500€ that was 13 years ago. Price is the same now.
This is why I like my 2004 cbr600f4i, more upright and no cpu nanny's stopping the fun.
Older bikes have character 🥰
my sportbike is 25 years old, well maintained. Still rides like a charm (Y)
Dang man... I was gonna drive from Houston to the Dallas area to look at this exact bike
