Wow… this was a treat for any Evil Dead fans… even old geezers like me (in their 50s) who are fans of the movies and TV Show, but never played any of the games (except the first 15 mins of that first PS1 game). And you’ve persuaded me to give the latest Evil Dead game a go, so thank you for that!
Fistfull of Boomstick was always my favorite no escort missions and the gattling gun hand was the coolest thing ever. Most of your issues seem to be skill based you aren't suppose to just run into the deadites attacks. If you use the chainsaw pickup move the other enemies won't hit you till you're finished.
Very well said, fistfull of boomstick is my NO.1 evil dead game ever. My 2nd is HAIL TO THE KING from PS1. It's their skill issue playing the game. And yes, it's just skill based. It has nothing to do with Infinitely spawning enemies. With that said, I love infinite spawning enemies since it make sense to the abilities of deadites continuesly tormenting you. That's why I'm bored playing Regeneration, it's soooooo linear that it's repetitiveness is more foreseeable. I found a fistfull of boomstick and hail to the king more engaging ( And yes even though I havent played ED the game yet cause I don't have PS4 ) I can say is way more fun than regeneration. The only reason I play it is to see the unlockables and Bruce Campbell.
I always thought the combat was addictive. Like the way you can attack one guy with your chainsaw in front of you and then use your shotgun to attack another one coming from behind always felt so good and so does taking out a whole swarm without taking damage yourself
Kinda funny saying Killer Klown fans would be in their 50s considering it's actually a "younger" franchise than Evil Dead (ED being released in 81 and KKfoS in 88). I agree that I wish we'd get away from this "turn every 80s horror movie into DbD clone" trend though, we need more variety.
I’ve literally missed 3 different opportunities to meet Bruce in person. He was going to visit two of my bases when I was active duty in the Army and I missed them due to life events and then I missed a monsterpalooza he attended due to my own wedding. Not a day goes by where I don’t think of all those missed opportunities.
13:43 this universe where the necronomicon is commercially available is basically what the actual hp lovecraft universe is like, the book there is also publicly available with certain pages removed while the arkham university has the one true legitimate book
Funny enough if you read one of the stories from Marvels zombies (Marvel Zombies vs. The Army of Darkness) it implies that after the ending of Evil Dead Regeneration, Ash was sent to the zombies universe and Ash himself early on warns the avengers of the threat by referencing his previous experiences from the films as well as what happened in the games
The vehicles in recent Evil Dead I don’t blame. The Delta won’t start in the original Evil Dead anyway, and there’s not much of Ash actually driving it around, and, again, it’s always broken down whenever they try to leave the original cabin anyway, so I can’t imagine driving was a huge focus.
How does this video have 42k views? Maybe I'm biased as a massive Evil Dead fan but this was excellent, the intro made me laugh my ass of aswell, massive well done. I got alot of nostalgia seeing footage from the old games too and the commentary was on point and made me want to go back and play some, can't wait for Evil Dead: Rise in april! This was super good you guys should be very proud, the views don't portray the quality although 42k is definetely nothing to turn your nose at, thoroughly enjoyed this ! *Hail To The King, Baby.*
After watching the Dead by Daylight segment, not sure if Xavier realizes how aggressive you can be as a survivor that you make killers fear chasing you in the first place. Theres a reason why I used to be scared of playing killer until the recent updates where they're given more viability against confident survivors. But yeah you can totally be aggressively mean to killers as Ash if you have the right perks and know how to counter the killer and their powers while abusing the map's rng. I had many killers hit me on hook after I loop them for ages. Edit//Also to note that Ash doesnt talk in trial due to game balance.
@@piplonf8591 DbD fucking sucks. People have just invested too much into it now to ever move on from it and admit that it's not good, so they continue to act like it's good when in reality it's fucking garbage with weak ass killers and lame survivor mechanics. I mean the whole "loop killers indefinitely or until they get tired of being looped and go somewhere else, then fix gen" gameplay loop is fucking terrible. I spent a total of 20 hours on it trying to enjoy it, but it's just so fucking lame and to top it off, the devs don't know what they're even doing with it. One update killers are good, so survivor mains bitch and moan so much that the next update killers are nerfed into the ground and survivors are buffed, so killer mains start to bitch and moan so much that it just flops back the other way. I'll take Evil Dead The Game over that tripe any day. Hell Friday the 13th was better than DbD even with the unfixed bugs and cheaters.
One thing you failed to mention in A Fistful of Boomstick is that the game had a “enemy fear” mechanic. When you execute an enemy with a melee weapon, some deadites will back up slowly and won’t attack for a bit, some will even run away and then come back. When surrounded you need to execute an enemy to get them off of you. To execute an enemy you have to do certain button sequence combos. For example the chainsaw combo is two swings, pause for 2 seconds, then swing again and you’ll impale the enemy. All the melee weapons has one, and these executions can one hit kill most enemies. Also, don’t forget to use the NPC police officers and soldiers that are place around the level to help you kill some, they actually fight back and can’t be killed traditionally.
Regeneration if for nothing else, it’s got a low budget Splatterhouse feel. It’s funny, Gory, adds to the lore, and has a sidekick that fits and could be a foil to Chucky in a Horror heroes vs Horror villains story. Also Ash is the half protagonist of Darkman 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼 Now since its Devil’s night, The Crow rewatch!
I'm actually writing an idea for a game I'd like to see made with the same type of fighting style as Evil Dead the game 2022. Freddy v Jason v Ash set in 1990 so it ignores Elm Street 6. It also has a fully resurrected (non deadite) playable Nancy Thompson Voicedby the actress Heather Langenkamp. For the first half of the game she has Amnesia not remembering who she is or who Freddy is or how she died. She becomes a badass when Ash gives her his boomstick sometimes. Ash also lives in a trailer Park like in the show and also works at value stop at the first part of the game.
The whole debacle about Dead By daylight, makes me know that godzilla never played against a try hard survivor who loops like theres no tomorrow and runs a troll build just to fuck with the killer
Yeah he probably didnt play enough to encounter his teammates going crazy on the killer. I know now that killer had a big buff that prevented a lot of survivor-sided exchanges but the game has a lot of options for the survivor to play aggressive
I was introduced to Ash by Dead by Daylight. He’s my main in that game, and I’ve loved him ever since. Boomstick was frustrating, and the bosses were incredibly easy. Regeneration is probably my favorite at the moment (even though Peepers is very annoying). I only got to play Evil Dead the Game for a week while I visited my brother, because I don’t have a way to play it (I’m waiting for the Switch port). But I did love the new game and really want to play it again (looking into a PC or PS4/5 just so I can get this game sooner). I downloaded Fortnite just for Ash. And even though I did it begrudgingly, I am having fun with him. Even if it’s just holding me over until I can get EDtG in my hands again.
I always believed, just like how each movie is unique in it's own right, so are the games. Resident Evil, Combat Heavy open world, Devil May Cry-esque, 4v1.. all the phone games. Some work, most don't! I think the fact they kept trying these games was fun enough, even if we had a big gap between the ps2 ones and the 4v1 game [not without a Dead by Daylight cameo between!] I'm glad that the franchise still comes around, regardless of quality. Its a series fun enough to keep an eye on and love, and I'm glad Bruce at least loves sticking around to voice it. I hope Evil Dead the Game stays around long enough, or we get another one in the future [or at least, a crossover between Rise and the game!]
Side note - Ted Raimi is one of those actors like Jeffrey Combs who just pops up in random movies you're watching and plays varied eccentric side characters. I love that Sam just sticks him in random side roles. That and Bruce's cameos make Sam Raimi films feel so home-grown and chummy, like wacky horror Kevin Smith just having a good time with friends.
MAAAN Army of Darkness Defense was lit back in 7th grade. I remember staying up way past my bedtime playing that game on my iPod and kept saying to myself "Alright one more game and then I'm done" because it was so much fun progressing through and upgrading Ash and the castle. Good times
When I got the notification for the trailer, I was very excited when I saw YOU specifically were making a video on one of my favorite movie franchises of all time and its many attempts at video games. This video was absolutely phenomenal!
37:42 IDK if this is true or not but I heard that telltale got the rights to the comics specifically and Ash's appearance is based on the art style of the comic 'Ashes 2 Ashes' which were drawn by Nick Bradshaw, and they do look very similar.
My brother got Hail to the King on PS1 for Xmas the year it came out. We couldn't get very far during the break when he was home. Then he came back after the end of this winter semester, I managed to beat it, like you said, once you get past that first hurdle. I have it on DC now and knocked it out a year or 2 ago.
It’s worth noting they made the cars weaker in the campaign since it’s to make ‘em harder, and they also changed the physics a bit recently for cars, and I think you’ll like sash (for the 2022 game)
A evil dead alien isolation style game would be awesome I think they could do it with evil dead rise. Imagine trying to escape that building with them creeping around.
This entire video is so much fun! So many Deltas! I've always wanted to play the other games, but looking at the frustrating controls, I'm happy that you've gone through them for me. I understand that DBD Ash just ain't it, but, without him there, I wouldn't have made the time to watch the entire franchise. He was the first character that DBD got the actual voice for, and the fact that he breaks some of the other rules in DBD makes up for the rigid rules of the trials. I wish he had a taunt button though, for Ash to laugh at killers as he's running loops (and laugh at other survivors that are being silly on purpose). lol, just bring the Bad Manners over to ED:TG and let us dance, damnit.
*Fistful Of Boomstick was my jam back in the day. It was so sick that it was Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucking Siiiiick. I wish they would remake games like this or something. Just a dream of mine.*
Hail To the King: Awful Survival Horror that feels like Evil Dead Fanfiction Fistful of Boomstick: Enjoyable but not without it's flaws and it's lacking boss fights Regeneration: Probably my favorite of the games, too bad Cranky Pants games didn't last very long.
Fistful of Broomstick was such a pain. My TV back then was so old it didn't have color adjustment so everything was dim that it took forever to find my way.
Don't forget Ted Raimi also played as Rick, one of Robert G. Durant's thugs from Darkman, another superhero movie that Sam Raimi worked on before he did Spider-Man later on!
They have made big updates to the cars, now they drive like tanks, and can run over deadites as well. Game has made huge strides from the initial launch
I am still impressed that I beat Hail To The King and this WITHOUT searching online for help. At the time it came out, I didn't had internet. It was a really hard game.
I will always buy Gun Media games. From Friday the 13th, Predator Hunting Grounds and Evil Dead, to the new Ghostbusters game they’re always super fun to play with friends
I remember Fistful of Boomstick scared me so badly as a kid I locked it up in a box in a wardrobe. Something about those early PS2 graphics that did something to me. Regeneration was fun as hell tho.
Idk if you have already heard but the reason Bruce Campbell wasn't in poker night in the inventory was because they couldn't get in touch with him, there was a interview asking why he wasn't in poker night2 and he said he didn't even know about it so yea. I still think he's funny in the game but it will would have been nice to have him in there
great video man, also watchtower database makes a cameo? this is definitely an amazing crossover of youtubers😂also now i have some video games to track down
I haven't played any of the THQ games but I watched no commentary longplay walkthroughs of them the other day. They definitely got better with each installment. But midway through watching the Regeneration playthrough, I got the idea that I wanted a Tomb Raider esc. Evil Dead game. Not so much the puzzles of traversal (though Regeneration had that to an extent), but an enclosed space with multiples different paths (o kind of like Hail to the King in terms of layout) where you get upgrades and new abilities throughout the game allowing you to reach previously blocked off areas. Not sure if there should be tombs, but I think exploring Kandarian crypts wouldn't be too uninteresting. Lots of lore potential. I think it's obvious I'm talking about a style more like the newer Tomb Raider games and not the older ones. The older games have a very specific style that doesn't fit Evil Dead too much. Though I'm not sure I want Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics to make the game. I'm sure they'd do a fine job, but Tomb Raider is an IP they've had for a long time. They created it (or at least Crsytal did). Evil Dead isn't in the same boat, though. The studio has shown care the Tomb Raider series, but how would they show the same care for Evil Dead? Which is why, instead of Square and Crystal, I think the studio to make such a game should be Respawn. They may be owned by EA, but their Star Wars games are amazing. And their Star Wars also show two things: a style not dissimilar to that of the modern Tomb Raider games, and a deep care for the franchise they have been given the rights to make a game based off of. Star Wars is a bigger and more well known franchise, of course, but Evil Dead isn't exactly obscure. Not anymore, anyway. And I'd love to see what original story they can come up with. Does it fit into the main timeline? Is it in the Evil Dead 2013 timeline where Ash died at the end of the original film? Is it in one of the many comics timelines? Is it connected to any previous games? Does it connect timelines in a way that both makes sense, and makes the Evil Dead continuity easier to follow? Who knows? Hopefully Respawn will if they ever make an Evil Dead game.
I love all of Evil Dead with all my heart. Movies, comics, games, etc. I had the SAME impression with Dead By Daylight, years ago. My oh my has it changed, and listening to someones perspective that is so wrong yet so MINE from years ago is hilarious and wonderful. I main Ash in the game and if ya play right, you can absolutely make the killer suffer WAY more than the survivor would. Just my thoughts! Thank you for this insightful video!

I suggested this video idea over a year ago on Twitter I’m not saying I’m responsible but you can send my check in the mail
The go-pro joke at the beginning made me laugh a lot, good job
Every time you guys team up, it’s an absolute treat.
i haven't seen evil dead but honestly anything that xavier puts out i watch especially a long video like this
Yessssss more hour long videos for the playlist. Good stuff
As a HUGE fan of both your channel and Evil Dead, this was a pretty neat lil Halloween treat
GM seriously almost selling me on the sponsored segment lmao. Stop being so damn charismatic bruh
30:54 Im just happy you shouted out this game.
*Fistful Of Boomstick was my jam back in the day. It was so sick that it was Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucking Siiiiick. I wish they would remake games like this or something. Just a dream of mine.*
Hail To the King: Awful Survival Horror that feels like Evil Dead Fanfiction
Fistful of Boomstick: Enjoyable but not without it's flaws and it's lacking boss fights
Regeneration: Probably my favorite of the games, too bad Cranky Pants games didn't last very long.
Fistful of Broomstick was such a pain. My TV back then was so old it didn't have color adjustment so everything was dim that it took forever to find my way.
You’ve really upped your production values. Good video.
The second I saw Mattie and James I said “Fucking Multiverse” 😂
Don't forget Ted Raimi also played as Rick, one of Robert G. Durant's thugs from Darkman, another superhero movie that Sam Raimi worked on before he did Spider-Man later on!
He’s living in Detroit, he got his arm blown off, he’s a robot cop! ROBOCOP!
New one is coming tomorrow, RETROREALMS ASH VS EVIL DEAD
"Every ROBOCOP Game Reviewed" next? I'd buy that for a dollar!
That “hey look, this book looks like somebody melted SpongeBob in the microwave.” Line made me lose my shit in public
It's 5:30 am here in Fiji on a Monday
They have made big updates to the cars, now they drive like tanks, and can run over deadites as well. Game has made huge strides from the initial launch
I am still impressed that I beat Hail To The King and this WITHOUT searching online for help. At the time it came out, I didn't had internet. It was a really hard game.
I will always buy Gun Media games. From Friday the 13th, Predator Hunting Grounds and Evil Dead, to the new Ghostbusters game they’re always super fun to play with friends
You do know that out of that list, (gun only made Friday) right?
@@mr.azizsshitposts I guess I did word it wrong but Gun did publish all of them
@@OBSDCC7 gun didn’t publish them either. Seriously they had no involvement.
This video is so amazing it easily earns the badass seal of approval
I did not think the Watchtower Database cast would show up halfway into the video
42:05 wasn't expecting that
I love the fact that they opened with a Spider-Man reference
and thats like the ONLY ONE
I loved this, great job dude!
I remember Fistful of Boomstick scared me so badly as a kid I locked it up in a box in a wardrobe. Something about those early PS2 graphics that did something to me.
Regeneration was fun as hell tho.
Soooooo..... randomly found this. I really enjoyed and appreciated it, it was....GROOVY.
A groovy video for a groovy holiday.
So is RoboCop next I heard the theme at the end
The intro was gold!
Idk if you have already heard but the reason Bruce Campbell wasn't in poker night in the inventory was because they couldn't get in touch with him, there was a interview asking why he wasn't in poker night2 and he said he didn't even know about it so yea. I still think he's funny in the game but it will would have been nice to have him in there
This video was so well made!
great video man, also watchtower database makes a cameo? this is definitely an amazing crossover of youtubers😂also now i have some video games to track down
the skits in these videos ruled! really reminds me of early youtube
Evil Dead Regeneration is one of those games that I pray gets a remake/remaster but I know it'll never come
I actually beat Fistful of Boomstick, and while it's pretty rough around the edges, I enjoyed it for what it was.
You guy's have probably never heard of "bully squads" in dead by daylight right?the survivors can not kill the killer but they can bully them😅
Bruce Campbell and Ted Raimi was also in Xena: Warrior Princess quite a few episodes.
The funny thing is that Fistfull of Boom-stick is the sequel to Hail to the King.
Xavier and everyone involved, the hour long videos are a fantastic format for this channel, this video was fantastic and I can’t wait to see more!
Love this style of video
7:00 Anyone who has played Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter knows that feeling.
The James and Mattie from a Universe I didn't know I needed.
44:14 cheryl, scotty and linda but people always forget about shelly lmao
13:45 Lol at “The Necronomicon For Dummies”!
An evil dead game set in the style of modern resident evil would be amazing, in my opinion.
The whole DBD section is exactly why I Want an actual Stand alone Halloween game.
RESIDENT EVIL DEAD!!!
🤗
Now this is a Halloween treat great video.
I can’t but think whenever someone says Necronomicom, I imagine it being a convention all about Lovecraft shit.
lmao i watched spider-man 2002 yesterday and seeing that intro where you were reanacting the car scene with uncle Ben was so funny
