For real. Saw this at 13 years old with friends at a sleepover and it scared me for a long long time . Probably didn't help it was one of the first horror movies I'd watched , haha.
I think so too. Even the woman who died at the beginning of the movie from the toilet tank lid may have counted as “dismemberment” as well, since it destroyed a limb of sorts, even without actually removing the limb.
Either that or it knew that bodies time was up and she was gonna die and wanted to punish him by having her in her innocent girlfriend human form after making him be the one to kill and hurt her. Just to really rub that salt in the fuckin wound lol
@@leahalford9432 I don’t think it is that the demon thought the body was gonna be out of time, it also raises people from the dead. But it could very well be that it just wanted to mess with them indeed.
@@StomeAura I think the best way to put this is if your friend wants out of rehab because they feel uncomfortable and unsafe maybe take them to a different rehab place???

@@filmfangirls9163 i think because theyre technically already saved, Natalie and and olivia both got dismembered so it would be pointless. Idk the story kind of confuses me
@Alan_Orozco yeah I guess that makes sense. I did end up watching the uncut version and it was nice to see him covering them up and getting ready to light up the place. And Natalie being cut of by the chainsaw was a nice touch on the original.
@@Hustle29237 It's all over the place. Really poorly written, poorly acted (during the non-gore scenes; Mia really sells the terrifying look while she's possessed) and the pacing in the first act is simply terrible. This movie could have used a solid 10 minutes of exposition instead of immediately throwing us into conflict (the catty relationship between the two girls, the emo reaction to Mia seeing her big brother) but instead it's like 5 minutes of normal before they floor the gas. It just doesn't work.
I LOVE how simple and elegant the excuse for not leaving the house is. Perfectly believable, and it makes it that much scarier. Ain’t no one rooting for a character making all the wrong choices. But here? They all did their damndest.

Thank god someone finally agrees with me. I swear i dont see how people hated this movie. I mean obviously I'm not saying it was better than the old ones. But with that being said, this is hands down one of the best or if not then the best horror remake i have ever seen. Extremely well done, likeable character's, gore galore but with practical old school blood effects and no cheap CGI blood, no forced comedy, just a straight up blood soaked horror movie. No other remake even comes close to this
I dont know about anyone else, but I think Eric is one of the most badass horror movie victims simply because he went through all of that punishment for his actions and still held his old friend before his life. He knew what came first and he knew what mattered, even if it meant him having the most painful injuries in this movie
I’m really really happy with this remake. I’m usually on the same side of James where I mostly look at remakes and long, convoluted series like “why?”. But I think the director here did everything he could to respect what Sam Raimi created, paying much homage without, in my opinion, treading too heavily on the story Raimi created. The scares are great, the gore is plenty as it should be in Evil Dead, and god damn there are some absolutely terrifying scenes. I think their goal was to make an Evil Dead movie without all the camp and slapstick, just the real horror of the deadites, and I think they really really succeeded. Natalie and Olivia’s deaths/deadite transformations are just horrible to watch, in the best possible way.
Fun fact about this movie: the abomination sequence holds the Guinness world record for most fake blood used in a horror movie with over 50,000 gallons of blood used, but it may soon be overthrown by the official theatrical release of Iron Lung, which is said to have about 200,000 gallons
One of my favorite James moments, along with Leslie's exploding head in Chopping Mall and McConaughey's jump out of the window in the worst Texas Chain Saw sequel.

Agreed. I’m pretty sure this was one of the first, too. It scared the shit out of me when I saw it the first time, was terrified of going down to my basement for a month.
@Your uncle The Thing was part of a wave of 80s remakes of 50s sci-fi pulp movies, like The Fly and The Blob. But in the 2000s there was another wave of remakes of 80s slasher and horror flicks.
This movie actually scared me, which for me is hard to do, but the chick who cuts her face and then dude falling on the toilet then crushing her head with the toilet tank is absolutely awesome!! Love your kill count James!! Thank you for your dedication!!
Right? That part always annoys me because they WERE PLANNING TO LEAVE! But the so called 'nurse' decided for every one else that Mia wouldn't kick her addiction without staying in the creepy basement with rotting cats. Anyone with half a brain would think that's a terrible place for hard rehab.
The “deadite greeting” (“One by one we will take you”) was done the BEST in this movie. If they had turned up the came-audio then it would have been perfect, but that moment when she goes from vacant, to stiff and alert and says “you’re all going to die tonight.” Chills up my spine, every time.
I like to think that, because Eric died willingly and before his soul could be fully claimed as a deadite, the demon didn’t have enough souls to return at full power, and that’s why it was so easily dispatched.
I think I remember reading on the TV Tropes page for the movie that the reason the abomination was able to rise was because it already had 1 soul before the five teens showed up at the cabin: the girl from the very beginning so when everyone except Eric became a deadite, that was four more souls right there
In a deleted scene after the cabin was set on fire it shows the inside and the Eric deadite burns then the camera pans over to David against the door as the flames rise up his legs and it shows he gets possessed right before he burns, so in turn he was the final soul or atleast that's what I think is the final soul
The most anxious parts it the movie are when Mia gets stabbed in the shed with the machete and when the needle gets stuck in Eric's cheek, just below his eye...
I wince just thinking about it, but for me it was extending a box cutter and forcefully licking the blade to cut her own tongue in half. It's quite vivid and easy to imagine it happening to your own tongue.
This is probably my favorite reboot/remake ever. They kept it simple and while it does mimic a lot of the first movies they really somehow managed to make it original.
Great remake, exactly the right balance of homage and innovation. About every ten minutes there’s a callback and you go “ahhh!” And then the rest of the time you go “AAAAAAH” because it’s SO brutal. When Eric took that crowbar to the hand, I made an actual out-loud involuntary noise, and it’s been a minute since a horror movie had that effect on me.
I don't understand why in these demon movies there's always a book that solves every specific problem. It's like Demons for Dummies. "If you visit chapter two, you'll learn that you probably shouldn't have said the words from the Demon how-to guide".
Well I mean the book that can summon demons would obviously have ways to get rid of them. Even if the people who wanna summon demons didn't put it there, demons would but that info there to be dicks.
Oh man, I remember seeing this in the theaters with my sibling when it was first released. We've both been huge fans of the original trilogy for many years, so we were very much excited to see the 2013 movie. It was the first movie that actually scared the shit out of me in years, and to this day, was the last movie to do so. Normally, gore in films doesn't get to me, but this one actually had me feeling nauseous and light-headed at certain points. The effects were so well-done! I know a lot of people who don't care for this movie because it was played seriously, but I really enjoyed it myself.
@@NxcturnalSounds I forgot all about the razor to the tongue! Oh, and the electric knife scene! That movie just knew how to push all the buttons hahaha.
This movie is a masterpiece. Not only is the idea of the drug addiction a really good new element but the movie makes you feel completely helpless and exposed. Truly terrifying. Solid 10/10 for me.
Sam Raimi confirmed there's another Evil Dead film in the works and would be interested in working with the remake' s director again. So maybe it's finally going to happen.
For the fifth soul, since Mia's was technically cleansed or whatever, wouldn't the teenage girl at the beginning have counted? Technically, she didnt die by the fire; her dad blew her head off, so the soul was not officially cleansed, and based on the dead cats, the others made it to the cabin not long after the events of the beginning. Also, 6:48 did anyone else notice the hand drawing in the Necronomicon that was flipping Eric off? I thought it was pretty funny.
Fun fact this is actually one of the few films that scared me and I can watch horrors comfortably most of the time. Recently heard theres a second one coming! I'm actually excited for it, hope it's as good as this one.
The trailer for it is up now & the trailer alons looks horrifying!!! It looks absolutely gruesome & brutal as hell i can't wait until April 21st to see it.
You are so thoughtful to your viewers! Even though I don't mind gore and blood, some people do. And that's ok, good job for including those people in the kill counts.
To be fair and honest, I also wanted a version that wasn't immediately demonetized, but yes, people who don't necessarily enjoy gore and blood should still be able to enjoy these videos
Very well done movie from the perspective of the demon. Her way of making use of anything to kill, the singling out of the crew, the switch of control of the mind to tap in to feelings is sick and all and all dope
I cant count how many times I've heard "Welcome to the Kill Count where we tally up the kills in all of our favorite horror movies!" Its just so welcoming I love it James is the best.
@@iamthemaxx How so? It took everything from the original, aside from the camp, and pumped it all up to astronomical levels. Sure it's not a classic like the other evil dead movies, but it certainly is a horror movie that if given a different title, could have stood on its own.
I watched this movie back in 2013 when I was younger and it had just came out on dvd. My parents left it on for me so they they could go to bed thinking it was the original Evil Dead. I was so scared.
I mean, Ash DID go back in time in the 3rd movie(and the tv series) so I dont see why it couldnt also have a spell to set things ups to happen just like before.
Natalie had lot more dialogue and scenes in that "leaked" screenplay, but it seems most of her scenes and lines were either cut or never filmed for pacing\budgetary reason. She was basically like the Linda from original movie, but they cut her scenes so much that you forget she's in the movie.
The thing that annoyed me most about her was her outfit. Like what is she wearing? You're going out to a cabin in the woods why are you wearing a dress?! Get some jeans or khakis for crying out loud.
silvergravity3 ur right but,my uncle which is young and it was scary movie night like always and I didn’t know what that movie was but,I picked it and saw ummmm THAT thing so we watched a different movie instead and I barely saw that part. Love that they went balls to the ball horror for this instead of trying to remake the campiness of the original that would have been a mistake. This movie was excellent great cast of young actors and genuinely pretty creepy and scary at times. One of the best made horror remakes.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again

literally dead
The most anxious parts it the movie are when Mia gets stabbed in the shed with the machete and when the needle gets stuck in Eric's cheek, just below his eye...
I wince just thinking about it, but for me it was extending a box cutter and forcefully licking the blade to cut her own tongue in half. It's quite vivid and easy to imagine it happening to your own tongue.
I for one have to give it up to when Eric got his hand whacked in half by a crowbar. That grossed me out before and still does 0.0.
Olivias was always the creepiest to me!!!

Henrietta: "I'll swallow your soul!"
The Abomination: "I'll feast on your soul."
Feast on is a little scarier than swallow
Swallows is scarer because it implys that it would take no effort to eat their souls.
*My monster will devour ur soul*
The first girl said she'd rip his soul out..
YOUR SOUL IS MINE
Scott Brown That is true
I don't understand why in these demon movies there's always a book that solves every specific problem. It's like Demons for Dummies. "If you visit chapter two, you'll learn that you probably shouldn't have said the words from the Demon how-to guide".
I like to think it's a eye for eye type whenever they come back to earth.
This was the scariest movie I’ve ever seen and I’ve seen a lot 😂
The part when the machete cuts through her knee is the most cringe worthy scene

This movie is a masterpiece. Not only is the idea of the drug addiction a really good new element but the movie makes you feel completely helpless and exposed. Truly terrifying. Solid 10/10 for me.

That was one helluva forshadowing moment, that's for sure! Haha
That's scarily accurate
For the fifth soul, since Mia's was technically cleansed or whatever, wouldn't the teenage girl at the beginning have counted? Technically, she didnt die by the fire; her dad blew her head off, so the soul was not officially cleansed, and based on the dead cats, the others made it to the cabin not long after the events of the beginning.
Also, 6:48 did anyone else notice the hand drawing in the Necronomicon that was flipping Eric off? I thought it was pretty funny.
That's what I always thought as well. The girl at the beginning was the first soul claimed by the Abomination.
i think the plan was to shoot every limb in the teenage girl's body

The Abomination obviously deserved Golden Chainsaw, as it was killed very graphically by a chainsaw.

Easily the best reboot of a horror franchise around the early 2010's.

It's even more aggressive when you add the quotation marks
Natalie had lot more dialogue and scenes in that "leaked" screenplay, but it seems most of her scenes and lines were either cut or never filmed for pacing\budgetary reason. She was basically like the Linda from original movie, but they cut her scenes so much that you forget she's in the movie.
The thing that annoyed me most about her was her outfit. Like what is she wearing? You're going out to a cabin in the woods why are you wearing a dress?! Get some jeans or khakis for crying out loud.
