- 'God, Fatherland, Family': ahead of the September 25th election, it seems that Mussolini's values are still in vogue in Italy. They are now carried by Giorgia Meloni, whose ultra-right party is touted to win.
In Italy, the far-right Brothers of Italy party - helmed by Giorgia Meloni - is leading opinion polls ahead of this weekend's election. The party has its roots in fascism, with some commentators describing the party as 'neo-fascist'. Though fascist apologism is a crime in Italy, the memory of Mussolini continues to be venerated by some. 'Many people feel a kind of nostalgia for Mussolini. If you talk about Brothers of Italy, at least 80 per cent of supporters feel the same way', alleges Mirko Santarelli at a rally he organised to commemorate the fascist leader. Nonetheless, 'fascism' is a label Meloni is eager to shake. 'Many decades ago, the Italian right relegated fascism to history, condemning the deprivation of democracy', says Meloni in an televised address. In Perugia, the region's senate candidate is also quick to dismiss any connection with fascism. 'There are of course people nostalgic for fascism, but this has nothing to do with Brothers of Italy'. Yet some commentators are still wary. 'Brothers of Italy is full of fascists', states La Repubblica journalist Paolo Berizzi.

Fascism is a very misunderstood term and form of governance as it only succeeded once in Germany. At it's essence it's a collectivist ideology, nothing for the individual everything for the state. In the fascist form of nationalism the state has to be protected from a foreign threats, it doesn't matter if those threats are real or imagined it's what rallies the population behind the leader who is the personification of the state. Nazi's chose the Jews for example, they thought they can exterminate the Jewish population because they were a threat but after all also inferior.
Fascists do not usually shy away from extreme violence and war to promote images of strenght every chance it gets. Nothing is out of bounds in achieving the protection of the state, like say starting a war and exterminating entire people's by the millions.
All politicians today who say that foreigners are a threat to the population/state and that these foreigners should be expelled, mistreated, not to be trusted etc. for the arbitrary reason of their ethnicity and the idea that the population and the state can do these things out their supposed superiority. Those are the parallels being made from then to today.
Nobody can deny that the tactics being used by fascists are on the political main stage all over Europe and America. And we know from expierence that when it succeeds it knows no limits.

Borders have existed since the dawn of time to keep citizens safe. No one hates foreigners, if you have a right to be in the country, great. If you don't, you don't belong. If you came to the country illegally and broke laws to arrive, you should be expelled. Seems pretty reasonable.

When it is obvious that there is a real threat posed to the population by these people the the government has an obligation to expel them and not trust them, instead of gas lighting the populous and assuring them that what they can observe with their own eyes makes them racist.
It is not a supposed superiority there are real difference, some societies are better than others if not then everyone would stay where they are and be happy there.

If you visit good Italian universities you'll see that there is a fair amount of foreigners studying but none of them are staying due to biased people(losing high skilled labor), thus if Italy continues like this it'll continue to fall behind Europe and even get surpassed by Spain / Poland in 10 years. The young and educated people pay for the mistake of dumb and old people...
