At age 75, I took up golf this summer. As I have sought to develop a consistent swing I took a couple of lessons from a "pro". I played several times a week, and then looked here and there on the net for help. I heard the term "rotation" often, and so there I was ... turning my shoulders, turning my hips ... and scarcely able to hit an iron at all that wasn't topped. I took the lessons of this video to the range today and the difference was amazing. Thank you Danny!
I video taped myself the other day, to see what exactly I was doing that was causing my inconsistency. I had a bit of a side to side hip sway, instead of driving them back and through. After watching this video and hitting the range today to practice, it was like a miracle happened - good contact, straighter shots and some monster drives. The trail leg back was a revelation. Danny Maude is my favourite teacher on TH-cam. Absolutely top class.
Yep - "fire the hips"....there are times when I want to fire them and get some new ones. Seriously, I really like how this drill lays out the process of getting the hips in the cleared position in both the backswing and downswing. It also shows how the flow of the torso works with this to "coil" itself to help store and release the power for effective golf swings. I have been working with the right foot back and it has helped with the open face. I am working now on getting the front hip to clear to allow full follow-thru. This lesson is the perfect step by step method for getting there....great lesson again Danny.
I've played golf for 40 years and after watching this video realized I never really knew how to properly fire the hips. I was floored with how easy it was to draw the ball and make clean contact. Great video!
After a few years playing as a teenager, I have been a green fee golfer for almost 30 years struggling on the course. Last year I joined a club and started training again. My aim was to understand the swing and feel it better. I have now followed Danny Maudes videos for a while and I must say that it amazes my how he locks up the understanding for the areas around the golfswing which I have struggled with. The videos released by Danny over the recent 6 months has simply just answered my questions in a brilliant way. I have been able to use the understanding to develop my swing, the feel is developing, I am getting much more consistent shots and I cannot wait to get on the course again. Thank you, Danny.
new golfer here - one of danny's other rotation/weight shift videos literally took me from frequently whiffing to striking the ball EVERY time. amazing instruction that doesn't cloud your mind with so many swing thoughts
Never realised until I started watching you how important the leg work/lower body is in a golf swing !! thanks Danny just can’t wait to start hitting balls !!!
I know in the UK you are all locked down. Here in Olympia WA. USA it's knee deep snow. Still when I can working on your videos for months getting legs and hips to drive the swing. Your hip "movement" (not turn) has been a revelation. Much better balance at top and finish.
Man this is exactly what I needed to hear! I just couldn’t keep from standing up in my swing to save my life. I was staying in posture and rotating better than ever at the range today. Got a lot of work to do but feel like I’m on the right path! Thank you!!
I like the way that the golf swing in these training videos is clearly segmented, and the targeted focus of each drill. Thank you so much for providing such great material and improving my understanding of swing mechanics.
Great video Danny - I have used this move by moving my right leg and it works fantastic. Plus it stops my slice. Keep up the useful tips that really work.
FANTASTIC Danny. You're a golf simplification guru 😃So happy to have your videos. What I like is that work can be done at home. When the body is relaxed and is working well (like when we walk) it's so easy to have a simple and efficient swing. Big thanks. Hope to come from France to Canterburry to see you after the covid crisis. Catapult and Elvis addict for sure now 😎
Watched this earlier this week, played twice since. Hit several drives 250+ and a couple at 280. Before I was lucky to get 220. This was such a simple drill and has helped a ton!
Crystal-clear insight, as ever. What I love most about your instruction is how you distil your knowledge of complex motions into simple feel drills which are easy for handicap golfers to practice. I have used your videos to remodel my swing over the last 4 months and I have never hit as consistently well as now. A welcome by-product of the focus on feels and process has been a reduction of focus on the result of shots, which can involve luck, and this has been an eye-opener for me. Looking forward to being a bandit off 12 when the snows clear ; )
I enjoy your instruction so much, easy to understand for us seniors. I struggled for the last few years since I had hip replacement and now the swing is a lot easier now.👍
That was great Danny a really good description and I'm in the camp of misunderstanding what I thought was a good hip turn and rotation - this is going to change my swing and ball striking - I think you are the best golf tutor on TH-cam for sure!
Danny. I kept coming over the top because I was swinging too hard with my arms. Hence I had no club lag. I started to make my turn early because they don’t move quite as fast as my arms. This has taken away my outside in path and divot. This is huge!!!!!!
Danny, Thank you for the instruction. I was struggling mightily with over the top and very erratic shots. Tempo and lack of moving the hips was killing me. I appreciate your approach and the keys you gave. Ill be checking out your other videos.
I have been desperately searching for someone to help me with stopping my slide in my swing. This is a great starting point and can already feel my shots getting crisper. Would be excited to see a video talking about how to apply more force/power into that weight shift once the basics are hammered down. :)
Where you been all my life🤣You've taught me so much with ur videos and can't wait to try them lessons on the course. Been watching other youtubers but somehow yours make more sense to me. Been a mid handicapper for like 20 years now and hoping to change that with what you taught me. Wish me luck🙏😊
Danny.. I can tell that this video along with “jam jar” video will help me fire my hips. Your instruction has help correct my inside out swing. I have started recording my swing to see if I am applying the concepts your are teaching. I have learned on to start the downswing with my legs but my hips stop moving before impact which causes a chicken wing. What can I say.. I am work in progress. I will break 90 this year. I am trying to video that will help me shorten my swing to help hopefully create better contact.
Brilliant stuff Danny!! Thank you for the commitment that you have to this community. A lot of people mentioned this below, and rightfully so, You are the man! You have a good week as well.
Awesome video as always. For the past 3 weeks I've watched on things that I need to work on. Seems like your my personal golf instructor. Keep those videos coming. Thank you so much Danny.
I have been using the trail foot back technique for the last few rounds I've played. It has helped tremendously, I have hit more fairways and picked around 25 yards with driver. Thanks for the videos.
Great content and informative coaching session Danny I think this is major for everyone really like this it’s wake up time for the hips getting the feeling is the way forward.
Thank you for another excellent video & very helpful practice plan. Have you thought of using your clear practice plans as the cornerstone of an illustrated coaching book? If you included Laura's coaching sessions you could be on to a winner. Probably it might take up too much of your valuable time. I only wish I had been able to have had your help when I started golf. For many years I struggled with lessons trying to teach me to play like a young ,super flexible golf professional. Your subscribers probably do NOT realise how lucky they are to learn how to play golf the easy Danny Maude way. Renewed thanks for transforming my game & wanting to continue playing. Best wishes to Laura & your children.
Super video Danny. Been playing with a pronounced closed stance for the last few years. In my seventies now and playing well, find you get plenty rotation going back but not so much going forward 🤔
the more you close your stance the less it will open on the way through. It's more important to complete your turn as we get older that to get the hips opening up
Looks like you really are healing up. Getting your 8i back to 170yds. Thanks for the great video. Always love your enthusiasm and getting to the important stuff quickly. I've watched some other good TH-camr golfers that speak too slowly and take too much time to get to the meat, and I end up not watching their video till the end because of it.
After watching Padraic H. explain hip action in the downswing I really enjoyed and benefitted from your video. I truly cannot wait to get to the course. Your insight has helped me to control my swing to the point where I now finish in a balanced position.
I have struggled with early extension and hoping this will help finally get me in the right feelings. I am going to try and use the Force Pedals. Thanks Danny. I really enjoy your approaches in combination with Mike Adams views as well.
Spent the last two days trying to fix my hip rotation. Just couldn't clear the left out for the way finally fixed it by pushing off the lead foot to push the hip out of the way thanks to this video
This was a great way of explaining the hips. It took forever for me to finally grasp it. Of course it took hours of self discipline and getting to core fundamentals, but man, if you don't put in the time, videos on the internet can really set a mate back. Still love the drill where you put the club out in front and watch what happens when you move back and forth. It really opens the door. Hope everyone out there is doing fine! Season is almost here!
I have greatly improved my swing thanks to your great tips. I presently struggle more with reaching more distance, both with irons and driver. Also I keep missing the right directions. Thanks sooooo much for your amazing help.
Good morning Danny, belting video mate . My hips are my biggest problem, to busy concentrating on my top half and forget about hip rotation. Cheers stay well mate
Another great video Danny! Over the last few weeks you’ve really helped me to understand the importance of co-ordinated movement of the lower body in the golf swing. I believe I fell in to the category you describe as being ‘too rigid at set set up’ and ‘stuck in posture’ so have really taken on board comments like ‘let it go’, ‘feeling of almost being out of control’, ‘legs work in lines (the walking analogy). Hoping I can put this in to practice as you have certainly installed the need to be more free flowing in your swing to generate that all important power and club head speed!
Great video Danny! Started playing 3 months ago and struggling for consistency with my Irons, hope that this drill will help with my swing feeling more fluid.
The drill of using the walking methode give such a clear message in how to "swing" I have always focused on rotating the shoulders - and I have also thrown my body forward in the swing through Those errors could most certainly be a couple of reasons for me being inconsistent on the course I have already started to think a little in this direction - and then I think about the other good sample - where you were using a bottle and its lid - another fantastic way of explaining Thanks for all those excellent tips - I really look forward to new messages from you
There is a lot to learn from you Danny while we are still in this pandemic and snowy day today but next week I will be firing my hips in the driving range and it could be sunny day too to play golf. For now I am contend with swinging my club in my apartment. Keep safe.
Thanks Danny. Loved this video on hip turn. Struggled with hip turn all my golfing life . Went to the course after watching this video , practiced trail foot back, etc. for 10 minutes and went out and shot an 85 with an 18 handicap on a really tough course..Your simple approach seems to have changed my swing I hope for the long haul.. Bill Dorfman, Asheville, NC.
Ah, when the old masters talked about 'footwork' they really meant hipwork. These drills are so easy to follow and that right foot slightly back adjustment always improves my strike. Thanks Danny. Great stuff as ever.
This is perfect, it answer's a question I had a while back. I was at the range and ended up doing the first part of this drill by accident. I found that when I stepped back with my trail foot, I was getting a really nice strike and drawing the ball. I can now complete the drill, so thanks! By the way, good to see you striking at full power again, you seemed to have recovered well.
Hey Danny. You coach with your heart , hard to come by. Love this video but I'm still very very puzzled with this hip move both ways which i understand. If thats the move, when and where does the arm and wrist come into place to whip it for arm extension /release if the whole downswing is so fast? How to train this move in conjunction with the hip move? Thank you for your patience
You have a new subscriber! I did this at the range this morning after watching and I saw 10-15 metres (yes metres, not yards) more distance and a stronger ball flight on well struck shots. It's new, so will take time to get more consistent... but THANK YOU!
Hi Danny. Fantastic tried and true video. Rory McIlroy said publicity he starts his downswing by firing his trail side hip. With his stretched out stomach muscles and all the other muscles on his backswing I now understand what he meant as this one trigger move helps him to prevent premature extension; maintain his golf posture; and rotates his body immediately to his lead side to finish his downswing in less then a third of a second. Cheers 😃⛳️👍🥂
Great video Danny. I am still looking for the video where you mention keeping the shoulder square at impact as opposed to turning them dramatically. This was about 9 months or year ago. Let me know if there is some way I can find it. Thanks

Once again, making what some seem to make a move complicated, Danny makes it very simple. Very well done Danny.!
Much appreciated, hope it’s a good start to your weekend
Great way to show the role of the hips in the swing. Awesome, Danny!!
Thank you James, all the best

By far the best online Golf coach hands down! Been following him for ages! Has improved my golf game so much! Was a 21 handicapper now an 11
Well done Robbie!

Perfect start to the day, golf tip from Danny to hit the G spot followed by PGA at Pebble. It doesn’t get much better.
Awesome to have you here, have a great weekend
Another great lesson. Done in a simple but explicit way. Thank you .
My pleasure Jim, all the very best
Danny Maude: simply brilliant and brilliantly simple! Thank you sir!

Really appreciate that Keith
Your lesson have tremendously improved my game. Thank you.
Superb, I have done exactly as you describe at the start of your vid, now after all these years I understand and can fix. Thanks
You're welcome Mark
Fantastic lesson video, Danny! The pieces are starting to come together - THANKS TO YOU!!

Danny- great rolling of your ‘r’ at 2:32. Great lesson as well.. many thanks
Thank you 👊🏻
Wow Danny 460k subscribers!! I remember when you first started. You're doing a great job with instruction. CONGRATULATIONS!!!
Thanks so much Randy, I can’t quite believe it when I see it
I just watched your video and now I have the confidence to play in the PGA
Awesome video as always. For the past 3 weeks I've watched on things that I need to work on. Seems like your my personal golf instructor. Keep those videos coming. Thank you so much Danny.
Great to have you here Johnny
Simplicity in motion very good drill and excellent visual. Thanks Boyd
Thank you Boyd, all the best
Another great "let it go" video. Thanks
My pleasure, thanks again 👊🏻
Great video! As I am getting older (70 now) I have been struggling a bit with this and my balance...will definitely try this drill! Thanks!
Love to hear how it goes Kenneth
Once the snow leaves I have to give this a go. I love the way you simplified the process. This should help my lack of flexibility.
Really hope so Wayne, all the very best

All the best Trevor, have a great weekend
Another great lesson thanks, Dan. The engine and central fulcrum to everything in the golf swing in one video!
Thank you Paul, many golfers would improve just by drawing the trail foot back 👍
Thank you for another excellent video & very helpful practice plan.

Best wishes to Laura & your children.
Really kind thank you Alan, I may just do that at some point.
Super video Danny. Been playing with a pronounced closed stance for the last few years. In my seventies now and playing well, find you get plenty rotation going back but not so much going forward 🤔

Thanks for the support, certainly starting to get there thank you
Great drill again simplitied by the best tutor on TH-cam, thanks Danny 😀🦘🦘
You the man , Mister !! Great materials, and the British accent is just an icing on the cake !!!
Thanks for all the support Paul
After watching Padraic H. explain hip action in the downswing I really enjoyed and benefitted from your video. I truly cannot wait to get to the course. Your insight has helped me to control my swing to the point where I now finish in a balanced position.
Thanks Pat appreciate the feedback 👍
I have struggled with early extension and hoping this will help finally get me in the right feelings. I am going to try and use the Force Pedals. Thanks Danny. I really enjoy your approaches in combination with Mike Adams views as well.
You are so welcome Dave
Spent the last two days trying to fix my hip rotation. Just couldn't clear the left out for the way finally fixed it by pushing off the lead foot to push the hip out of the way thanks to this video
Great video. I’ve been working on hip rotation in the downswing and this is a good perspective.
Happy to help Frank
Dear Danny - thank you. Absolutely brilliant
Really happy to help Andrew
Swing as you Walk 😃 once again Danny you show your ability to simplify the golf swing
Great video ! 👌🏻
Thank you Xav, all the best
This was a great way of explaining the hips. It took forever for me to finally grasp it. Of course it took hours of self discipline and getting to core fundamentals, but man, if you don't put in the time, videos on the internet can really set a mate back. Still love the drill where you put the club out in front and watch what happens when you move back and forth. It really opens the door. Hope everyone out there is doing fine! Season is almost here!
Season is almost here 👊🏻
I have greatly improved my swing thanks to your great tips. I presently struggle more with reaching more distance, both with irons and driver. Also I keep missing the right directions. Thanks sooooo much for your amazing help.
My pleasure, really happy to do so
Hi Danny, great video. Shot 81 and 80 after learning how to fire the hips. Oh yeah, the wind chill was 25F. Thanks for your wonderful instruction.
Good morning Danny, belting video mate . My hips are my biggest problem, to busy concentrating on my top half and forget about hip rotation. Cheers stay well mate
My pleasure Dave, all the best
Another great video Danny! Over the last few weeks you’ve really helped me to understand the importance of co-ordinated movement of the lower body in the golf swing. I believe I fell in to the category you describe as being ‘too rigid at set set up’ and ‘stuck in posture’ so have really taken on board comments like ‘let it go’, ‘feeling of almost being out of control’, ‘legs work in lines (the walking analogy). Hoping I can put this in to practice as you have certainly installed the need to be more free flowing in your swing to generate that all important power and club head speed!
Thank you David, really pleased you have the essence of what I’m trying to put across
Another great video with simple meaningful drills. Can't wait to get back on the course and put all your recent videos into practise
Stay well
hopefully not long now David
Thanks for this Danny, do you have some exercises to really get the hips opening up? I have neglected flexibility so i need to get on it now!
The key is not to try, I have a video coming in about 8 days explaining all
Great advice. Always informative and educational. Hip mobility exercises are also an important key.
Thanks Danny.
Absolutely Dennis
Great video. All of your videos are great, but this one really hits the mark to help me thru one of my problem areas. Thank you.
That’s great Arthur, really happy to help
As always, it’s a pleasure watching your instructions!
Thank you Hobson 😁
Great video Danny! Started playing 3 months ago and struggling for consistency with my Irons, hope that this drill will help with my swing feeling more fluid.
Love to hear how it goes
The drill of using the walking methode give such a clear message in how to "swing"
I have always focused on rotating the shoulders - and I have also thrown my body forward in the swing through
Those errors could most certainly be a couple of reasons for me being inconsistent on the course
I have already started to think a little in this direction - and then I think about the other good sample - where you were using a bottle and its lid - another fantastic way of explaining
Thanks for all those excellent tips - I really look forward to new messages from you
My pleasure Kenneth, all the very best with your practice
Have never been able to visualize/feel the right movement for my lower body during the swing. This was super helpful! Cheers from Portland, OR!
That’s great Drew, thanks for taking the time to share
Thanks Danny. You make it so easy to follow.
You are very welcome, thanks for taking the time to comment
Really happy to help
Effortless love the short 10min videos thank you Danny
My pleasure Nishat
Good instruction on how the hips work. Thanks.
There is a lot to learn from you Danny while we are still in this pandemic and snowy day today but next week I will be firing my hips in the driving range and it could be sunny day too to play golf. For now I am contend with swinging my club in my apartment. Keep safe.
Look after yourself, all the best
Great video Danny. Let's hope courses open soon 🤞
Absolutely 👍
Good stuff Danny. Just what I needed. C'mon spring, I can't wait to get to work. Be well.
Not long now Glenn
Thanks Danny. Loved this video on hip turn. Struggled with hip turn all my golfing life . Went to the course after watching this video , practiced trail foot back, etc. for 10 minutes and went out and shot an 85 with an 18 handicap on a really tough course..Your simple approach seems to have changed my swing I hope for the long haul.. Bill Dorfman, Asheville, NC.
Thanks Bill that’s great to hear 😁
Ah, when the old masters talked about 'footwork' they really meant hipwork. These drills are so easy to follow and that right foot slightly back adjustment always improves my strike. Thanks Danny. Great stuff as ever.
My pleasure John, have a great weekend
This is the exact drill I was looking for after my lesson yesterday
Great video as always Danny I really like the way it keeps you centred
Absolutely Jon, much easier
This is perfect, it answer's a question I had a while back. I was at the range and ended up doing the first part of this drill by accident. I found that when I stepped back with my trail foot, I was getting a really nice strike and drawing the ball. I can now complete the drill, so thanks! By the way, good to see you striking at full power again, you seemed to have recovered well.
Almost there, thanks for asking
Always great golf lessons Danny...you helped me a lot, really...thanks..
Many thanks Michael, all the best
That’s brilliant, thanks for sharing and welcome to the channel
@@DanielMaude keep em coming!

lovely, have a great day
Thanks Danny, great video on hip action. Very important fundamental that is easily forgotten. Especially for us early extenders. Working on it!
Have fun Glen
Brilliant video 😻
Need you to come to Newcastle to give me a lesson!
Excellent illustration! Much needed, thx Danny.
@henryzhang9915 thank you 🙏🏻 you are most welcome 😊
Thanks as usual, Danny. Would you say that the backswing starts by pushing to the front your left leg or by pulling back your right leg?
Push off the front
Thanks Thomas 😁👍⛳️
Great explanations of the hips. Really good video.
Thanks so much Jeff
Oh man! Well done. That's the info I hoped for.
That’s brilliant Mark, happy to help
Great video Danny. I am still looking for the video where you mention keeping the shoulder square at impact as opposed to turning them dramatically. This was about 9 months or year ago. Let me know if there is some way I can find it. Thanks
Will see what I can do 👍
This drill really helped to get an natural easy hip turn., not forced . Much less stress on the back and shoulders great for us senior golfers.
Another superb tutorial. Thanks Danny.
Another great tip to help with that feel... really excellent!
Thank you Mark, all the best
Another great video...simple and understandable!
Than you Andy, all the best
