    Absolutely brilliant J, I know we've spoken on your insta about my head dipping issue (which I'm addressing) yet this video is superb for helping me with improving my hip turn and rotation, especially the structured practice idea, it will most certainly keep me focused at the range. So thank you again chap. 👌🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

    You are the second person I have heard this from recently. You say your body won't allow you to rotate your hips with an open clubface and the other person said your brain won't allow you to rotate. Same meaning. Is this concept new? I believe it 100%. It's just that I have studied the golf swing for 30 years trying to learn as much as I could from all kinds of instructional and youtube videos. I'm even a former club pro and not one person pointed out your body/brain resistance to hip rotation when you fan the clubface open.

    • @jchowngolf
      @jchowngolf  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      Rotation creates shaft lean, shaft lean will slightly open the face, rotation will also encourage less club face rotation through impact. If a face is open to the arc, it will be very difficult to add rotation and still hit the ball to target, unless the club path is extreme enough on either side to facilitate a shot curvature to target. Almost all golfers with an open club face will stall their rotation to either roll release or early release/cast in order to square the face. For open face golfers, rotation won’t be a viable match up for a consistent functional pattern.

      @@rbauer1632 We don’t give the brain enough credit in the golf swing. It always finds a way to correct bad angles and direction, even if it is not in good sequence. The goal in golf is being as consistent as possible. Crazy game

    If I pull left hip back I tend to pull the ball. Has to be closed club face or path or both.

    I have chronic lower trail-side back pain that flares up, making even walking difficult. Standing more upright throughout my swing helps, as does putting most of my weight on my lead side which keeps my trail foot lightly touching the ground, or playing only on my left side with right foot lifted. Traditional golf posture, having both feet on the ground, etc, significantly increases the pain.
    Do you have any insights on what I should focus on? My back pain stops my rotation, feeling like a knife stabbing me in one area.
    I’m nearly 62 and work daily on my stretching and fitness. Despite being strong, my back issues flare up with golf, limiting me to about eight rounds per season if I am lucky in New England during the summer. When my back is decent, I manage to card a few high 70s, but mostly low to mid-80s. But I have also had to take a lot of time off, sometimes missing most of the golf season.

      @TheJohnnyblazsus 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      There’s nothing to say being more lead side dominant is wrong, if it relieve your pain then stick to it.
      Look at TPIs TH-cam channel for tips about protecting your back. A lot of lower back issues stem from too much lateral bend in the swing. Simply, it is having a shoulder angle that is vertical on the back swing and/or at impact.

      @@TheJohnnyblazsus I've been following TPI and found an interesting video on "Understanding and Assessing Pelvic Tilt in the Golf Swing" by Dr. Gregg Rose. He shows that Tour players typically have a forward tilt of the pelvis between 20-30 degrees at setup (like water in a bucket being dumped forward) with the driver. At impact, this forward tilt levels out or even tilts backwards (like water being dumped backwards). Engaging the core to facilitate this movement of the pelvis seems like a good solution to protect the back. Thanks for the recommendation!

    Been striving for this look forever but I have to move my head (turn) at start of downswing to get close to this position at impact. Why is that ?

    how to not get out of sequence? The more I feel like I start the swing with the hips the more I get those stuck positions

    • @jchowngolf
      @jchowngolf  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      Clear your hips with the left side not your right. Starting with your right side will absolutely get you stuck. Starting with your left will move you into hip flexion which forces the arms to move in front of the seam line (if the right arm isn’t stuck behind the body in the backswing due to poor right arm folding). Clearing properly will never get you stuck 👍🏼

    • @jchowngolf
      @jchowngolf  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Leading with the hips is a move for absolutely everyone when you’re doing it properly. Like I said in the video, I’m a disabled golfer with cerebral palsy which certainly makes me even less likely to be able to clear the hips than your average able-bodied golfer. The reason I can clear the hips and not get stuck, is due to how I lead with my hips. Watch my video about how to get the arms in front in the downswing. I describe in detail how the left hip going back (hip flexion), moves the arms in front of the body 👍🏼

      @@lawrencecirillo3233so I had a problem with rotating my hips too much, staying on my trail side and doing nothing with my arms. I had to do the opposite and feel as though I shifted my weight forward and that my arms started the downswing. Fast forward a month and I’ve managed to mesh the two. Took some good and bad days golfing but I’ve managed to feel my weight shift to my front foot, lower my hands without tipping the club out(huge point here) and getting into that delivery position where the shaft is parallel to the ground and head is just a touch behind my hands, my hands are just in line with my right thigh. Getting there you just need to keep rotating. Extend that left leg and the momentum of your rotation to get to that delivery position gets your hips around.
      My point is that there is a blend. The hand shave to lower as you turn. Doing it without tipping the club out takes some reps if you were an over the top steep guy like me. Not drastically, but enough to hurt my consistency.

    From an American's point of view - you speak too fast! You'd be more hepful if you just slowed down a bit and realize that English-speaking people from all over the world are listening to you - not just the Brits. But thanks for the tips!

      I actually think the fact he speaks quickly is refreshing, usually I have to turn up the speed on videos because instructors talk too slow like I’m a child.
      If his accent is difficult to catch quickly you can always turn down the speed of the video or turn on caption. (My sister often watches any British tv/movies with captions)
