Something very much like this happened to me once, but not a bus. I was going from London to Cambridge for summer school and at some point during the trip these two tall guys, skinhead-looking guys see me across the aisle and sit next to me. They proceed to ask where I am going, immediately clock me as a foreigner, and invite me to a party. I politely declined them, as I already had further engagements (and there was absolutely no way I was going with two random guys to a party, I don't even like parties, let alone those hosted by guys I do not know and look shady af) but they kept insisting. At this point, I am stuck on a longish bus ride and can't get out. There are very few stops along the way and even if I get out of bus and find some other means of getting to my destination, I would arrive after the dorms are closed and thus would have no place to stay. Perhaps I could find a hotel but I'd have to look around, at night. So basically I can't escape them. If I were to change seats they might follow or even get offended and escalate the situation further. Short of telling the driver and causing a ruckus, there was nothing to do but hope they would get tired and leave me alone. Fortunately their stop came before mine. I watched them exit the bus with immense relief. They had no information on me, no name and no way of tracking me down in Cambridge so I was off the hook...until the next bunch of creeps comes, that is, because there is always one around the corner. It is a horrible situation to be in.
Nocturnalux That must have been very distressing. I used to hate using public transport as a teenager to go to and from school. I was assaulted 4 times by random dudes on trains or in the city as a teenager. When I was 12 , some guy who was about 30 just walked up to me and punched me in the stomach for no reason. He just walked off. I lay on the ground totally unable to breathe. No body did anything to help me. I’ve had a guy with about 6 mates throw a bottle at me as I rode past on my push bike, 2 guys attack me as I stepped off a bus, a couple of thugs bashed me on a train when I was 16. I was bashed when I was 22 after some drunk in a car ran into my motorcycle. His girlfriend goaded him into it. He had 2 mates with him, of course. This prompted me to learn MMA. Even after 15 years of training, people still occasionally act up. I had some dickhead try to start a fight with me in Surry Hills while I was having a drink with a female workmate. Another fuchtard tried to push me down some stairs at the Australian Open because he thought I was moving too slow. Didn’t end well for him. I had an unknown woman run up behind me one night in Newtown and tried to smash a bottle over my head. She got put down quickly, but all these people were going on about “hey! This dude just assaulted a woman!” Some other people had witnessed it and set them straight. Females think that men have it easy when it comes to city life. I hear to soooo often about how men can go out and not worry about being attacked. Nothing could be further from the truth.
@@Slynsmiley It most definitely happens to men as well. The difference is that men are considerably less likely to be sexually assaulted on the street. Women, however, always have that at the back of their mind whenever they venture out alone, especially at night. And even that, I am also sure is more common than we think because men in such situations are not likely to report.
This was brilliantly done. It felt so real. It's only when I got to the end, I realised that there hadn't been any dialogue, apart from one word. Gestures, eye contact and body language all take precedence here. The main actress was so natural - I felt every second of her discomfort. Every single female can relate to her experience. It brought back memories of a nightmare bus journey as a student, when I was unknowingly singled out and targeted by two guys. I can relate to everything the character experiences - the seemingly harmless initial acknowledgement that soon develops into something more sinister, the increasing sense of discomfort and the fear of not knowing what someone's intentions are. An excellent job.
In a way, this achieved horror far better than any film with a monster or slasher. It also hauntingly illustrates the crud women have to worry about and go through. This film wins out on both counts! 10 out of 10.
People would say " Why don't you scream for help?". But when things like this happen, your whole body shuts down, you can't seem to even open your mouth . That's what happened to me when two guys in a scooter stopped beside me saying all kinds of nasty things as I was walking home from work. I felt a mix of fear and anger. And it leaves you thinking if you did anything wrong to attract such a thing. Thank you Alter for this because THIS IS REAL.
It wouldn't have made a difference if she screamed. The guys would just go, "what did I do?" and since the answer is, "Nothing that is criminal", nothing would have happened to them.
@@aethellstan It's makes matters worse when people don't understand the level of trauma it leaves behind, for a very long time. this is why i never smile or make eye contact with any random guy on a street...you never know when you meet the right lunatic and theres plenty of them ...i almost got in trouble a few times
Yeah we have to be extra careful. Its also better to do like she did and seat yourself next to other women. Its a damn shame we have to always be on our guard like this tho
I also got into trouble because of making eye contact, it happened to me once when I made eye contact with a homeless man on the street, and then he asked me what time it was and I thought that as long as I kept a safe distance what would happen from responding and telling him the time , but I was wrong , so yes we should avoid eye contact as much as possible.
I've had men tell me...."come on...smile!" as I'm walking down the street. I've heard this from many men who I don't even know. This short is why, and this is why I look down when walking too. I used to smile all the time, but now, I don't so much anymore while walking in town, or crowded areas. Of course, I love to smile at strangers, to be kind and courteous, but you never know the intents or hearts of a human being.
i smile at people as i pass by and you know what i do? keep walking. i know i'm just one person out of billions of people. i don't care if people smile or not. while my town isn't as big as like metro areas it's nice to see some still exchange hi while passing. i don't expect it just keep going on my way.
This made me so tense my spine is shivering, I hate that men can't keep in their space and not be so damn creepy. Can't even smile in public without being terrified.
Boy by some of the comments I read before watching, I was expecting some incredibly terrifying shit to see. Y’all are so over the top with your choice of words!

Moral of the story: An average day for a female can be the contents of a horror story. This has happened to me more times than I care to remember - and smile or no smile, it makes no difference.
I know as a woman I have experienced this happening to me several times. It is as terrifying as any monster you could possibly conjure up. Great film 🎥 ! ❤
As a female, I've dealt with many similar situations, so I totally related with the main character & easily felt the anxiety & panic setting in on her. It reminded me of also having to instruct my daughter on stranger danger & coach her on how to handle similar situations, ONLY because she's female. I can definitely say this is a very good psych drama short, but for me, not horror (which is just my opinion). Since I've had to deal with real human monsters throughout my life (due to gender, race, economic status, etc...), I prefer my horror to be more escapist "creature feature". Though this particular film wasn't my thing, I still thank you, Alter. I love your featuring of such a variety of films, so any horror fan can find their own style of spooky ❤️🙂💀. Stay safe, everyone~ BOO! 😉
That shit is more horrifying and *REAL* than demons under your bed. The lady is brilliant, her anxiety and fear was so palpable, as if it was happening to me. Loved the short 👍🏻
As a man, I could feel the anxiety and fear crawling out of my own skin. An unbearable consistency from start to finish. Women, I'm sorry you go thru this. Please take care of yourselves.
Men, please be mindful of how you are behaving towards women you don’t know from a can of paint. We just want to be left alone, we don’t owe you anything not even a smile. Think about that.
This is why I always go prepared when traveling alone. Also when traveling alone, phone someone up and make conversation. You look less vulnerable when talking on the phone.
Real life situations like this are honestly more terrifying then ghost, demonic, monster etc. movies. I was honestly scared for her and some of decisions had me saying "why would you do that!?"
This made me cry, cause it was so f*cking relatable and I felt terrified for her, all those times I have felt the same, the knot tightening in your chest thinking if you would be able to make it home or not, was it your fault for going alone, you shouldn't have even left the house...
This short was not what I was expecting. The plot went more to a Hitchcock style where the viewer's expectations become part of the viewing experience. The actor was brilliant ! She had virtualy no dialogue but told the story through emotive expressions. Excellent short, thanks for posting.
Yvonne Arora Given that men are about 100 times more likely than women to be assaulted by a random stranger in the street, your fears are not gender specific.
@@Slynsmiley I agree. However men have the highest capabilities than women. Although women in this generation knows how to defend themselves, I still agree with you. It'sjudt, the world needs to know that respect is a must in all gender and situations. I just commented this since I am experiencing this everyday on my way to work. Even I wrap myself with pants and long sleeves. Anyways. Have a good day ☺
Yvonne Arora I’m so sorry to hear that. I have a mom, aunts, wife, and daughters. I hate that we, as a society, treat our women this way... Side note, consider learning Brazilian Jiu jitsu. I train and it’s actually designed to teach smaller fighters ways to be bigger threats. Gracie schools have a women curriculum based on common threats to women.
Gave it a like for the attempt and the concept but I had lots of subtle issues with the film: 1. Why did she scoot in when the woman next to her left? Why would you leave an outside seat for someone to come sit next to you when there's plenty of space on the train? 2. Why didn't she move somewhere else when those guys made her feel uncomfortable? Idk where this is set, but I'm from NYC and women know not to be "embarrassed" by leaving a situation in which they feel uncomfortable. Move away and if they follow you, call them out. There were plenty of people around, so she wasn't likely in serious danger. 3. Why did that guy come try to sit next to her in a train car with dozens of empty seats. If someone tried to do that, I'd yell at them too... even if I wasn't already on edge. That's obnoxious af. 4. This definitely happens and is really shitty, but this particular circumstance seemed more annoying and disgusting than scary. There seemed to be enough of a crowd that it never appeared that she was in danger. "Just" being subtly harassed - which again is annoying and gross and awful, but not necessarily scary.
@@swetasaxena6830 Assumption with no basis I would say 😑😒 There was not a single dialogue in the film and moreover it is relatable to those who have experienced sth like that in their life. It isn't for me because I haven't. This has got nothing to do with literature...Don't you think?
This is a situation almost every woman in a big city suffer or has suffered with. If I didn't have female friends who go trought this, I wouldn't understand too.
As someone who's endured this in real life, this is pretty good at recreating the scenario. I felt it missed the mark when dealing with the internal panic, though. The frantic heartbeat, the choking feeling in your chest, all while you try to remain as expressionless as possible on the outside. Anything to avoid drawing their attention more. It's like claustrophobia, feeling trapped even in a wide-open space.
The amount of times as a petite woman traveling on the trains in Sydney alone I've encountered guys like this - and worse is more than I care to say. I have had guys sit next to me for whole trips after asking for the time hassling. O had one guy who was very obviously intoxicated sit next to me and ask my name and when I didn't respond because I was reading a book he got in my face called me a slut and other obscenities. It's an unpleasant world sometimes.
@@kamarvika that sounds like such a good idea! We should definitely implement something like that. We are always told to sit near the guards compartment with the blue light but there is very rarely any patrol or help to be found when in an awkward or alarming situation.
The way I was tense the entire time. I could feel this girls fear because I've been there. We all have. Sometimes the most common unjust thing can be most truly terrifying.
He should've never tried to sit next to her when there were empty seats all around. If he did that on a nyc subway train, I'd yell at him too, trust me.
Oh this brought back unpleasant memories when I used to travel late at night from work. We have one police officer in ladies only bogey in India after 8 -9 pm. Once a drunk man entered the bogey, saw me (I was the only one for the last station) came to sit at my side. The constable acted fast & pushed him off. But man was that scary. It's a really paranoid experience, mind is super awake. Despite being tired I wouldn't bat my eyelid. Just waiting for my station.
My dad told me to look them in the eye and ask them if I can help them. If they answer anything inappropriate, excuse myself, stand up and leave. But usually they stop fooling around or they are the ones who leave.
It is very well done and unfortunatly very accurate : as a woman who lived in a big city (Paris) , i KNOW so . Things like that happen all the time, especialy in subway or RER... which is NOT normal but that’s the way it is so we girls have to be aware just like this woman...and sometimes for a reason.
I think every women before her 30s has experienced this alreast once including myself.. Its really sad and horrifying.. This Short film deserves more views
And this is when I would call the cops. I don't care if they haven't touched me, I'd still call and tell them that the two guys are acting skeezy and making me really nervous by sitting right next to me and staring, etc. I don't care if they were innocent, just watching this is getting my skeeziness radar sounding the alarm loudly and this is just a short movie.

"as a woman" "as a female" comments filled with this, what if i told you men would feel the exact same in a situation like this. its not just a female thing.
These kinds of situations can happen to anyone, anywhere. I live in a small town and when I walked to school I got followed often, mainly by boys in my class trying to say they could "turn me straight." (I'm a lesbian) Since I can't bring things like pepper spray to defend myself, I always wait for my friends to come outside, I don't get followed anymore luckily.
she was being nice with a smile, there are some people that can take this to another level, stalking and eventually hurting the individual - very nicely done, point came across
Things like this makes me hate being a woman. I've often got into situations like this just because I try to be nice, it really sucks that even common courtesy can put you at risk.
This has been the scariest short I have ever watched because I have been in situation where I was unsafe because of a guy, this made me feel absolutely terrified all over again.
As a woman I can totally relate to this. I tend to smile and say hello to everyone I pass (going in and out of stores, grocery shopping) and this really makes me think about the fact that not everyone you smile to (or who smiles back) has good intentions!! I keep myself pretty well equipped with pepper spray and brass knuckles on my keychain, LEGAL OR NOT I am ALWAYS going to protect myself!
this reminds me of the time we had construction going on at work, i was doing room service and was in the same hall as 2 of the workers. i smiled when making eye contact because it’s the polite thing to do, they then tried to talk to me. i’m extremely anxious and really don’t like small talk so i’d just smile and nod. they then said “not much of a talker huh?” they took the elevator with me but were staring at me and trying to talk to me the entire time. i was getting tired of it and just didn’t respond, nod, smile or anything because i don’t owe them anything. they actually seemed mad that i wasn’t giving them the attention they wanted, but they finally left me alone. being a woman is not fun when you have men in the world who can’t take a hint. not everyone owes you their time, and some people are just quiet and anxious, not stuck up.
This made me feel so uneasy..I can relate. I always try to be aware of what/who is around me when in public transit, or walking down the street. Oh, and I wanted to say, that for the most part, if I was her, I would be thinking its just my imagination, UNTIL HE LEANED OVER AND "SNIFFED"?.That would have TERRIFIED me!

So the real horror was the intimidation and making her think she was in danger. Wow, simple but very effective! Every woman's nightmare..
I've had scary moments with creepy men. It feels like every single woman has had these scary moments. 🤔😥

ALTER coming through yet again with another fantastic film. The suspense here had my anxiety levels through the roof. 10/10
What others think to be trivial things continues to trigger the memories and emotions. I cannot even fathom what your 9 yr old must feel. I hope your baby continues to have the love and support she needs all throughout her life, cos she's going to need it.
Next to no dialogue, very little happening, yet the filmmakers STILL managed to make this scary! Great job to everyone involved!
this is why i never smile or make eye contact with any random guy on a street...you never know when you meet the right lunatic and theres plenty of them ...i almost got in trouble a few times
Yeah we have to be extra careful. Its also better to do like she did and seat yourself next to other women. Its a damn shame we have to always be on our guard like this tho
exactly, I smiled once on boy and then he followed me to train ... it was so scary, but when I saw my friend in train he dissapeared....
@@jenniferoverstreet1721 SO TRUE!
Many people underestimate, how big the horror can be for a woman who is alone in a place like that. Very good shortfilm!
There could be some text at the end: Based on the true experiences of countless women who made the "mistake" of showing a little common societal courtesy.
But the two people by the stairs didnt actually do anything wrong. She was in the wrong and misjudged them. She basically demonized them in her head when they did nothing

I think it's because they kind of whisper in The few lines they say
@@isabelladefigueiredo3810 that's what I thought. He probably said something like "you be careful" before getting off the train, as in "you better watch out next time", then when a man tries to sit next to her she snaps and does literally what the skateboard guy probably said to her.
Bird is British slang for girl/woman
She gave off a victim vibe.

If you have a son, send him to Martial Arts classes. He will be the one most likely to suffer a violent assault by a random stranger.

In Dagestan I can walk in 3 a.m. and no one say or do nasty things, I didn't know I live among such a nice quiet people

This short was not what I was expecting. The plot went more to a Hitchcock style where the viewer's expectations become part of the viewing experience. The actor was brilliant ! She had virtualy no dialogue but told the story through emotive expressions. Excellent short, thanks for posting.
This is everyday battle of women.
@@michellemccloy823 They were harassing her. And in the end, they did nothing to her, probably because it was crowded.
Gave it a like for the attempt and the concept but I had lots of subtle issues with the film:

It's like claustrophobia, feeling trapped even in a wide-open space.

this reminds me of the time we had construction going on at work, i was doing room service and was in the same hall as 2 of the workers. i smiled when making eye contact because it’s the polite thing to do, they then tried to talk to me. i’m extremely anxious and really don’t like small talk so i’d just smile and nod. they then said “not much of a talker huh?” they took the elevator with me but were staring at me and trying to talk to me the entire time. i was getting tired of it and just didn’t respond, nod, smile or anything because i don’t owe them anything. they actually seemed mad that i wasn’t giving them the attention they wanted, but they finally left me alone. being a woman is not fun when you have men in the world who can’t take a hint. not everyone owes you their time, and some people are just quiet and anxious, not stuck up.
