  • I'm sorry this is like the chevy guys against the ford guys. It's just I never get a warm fuzzy feeling from these gate operators. I feel like they should stick with garage door openers. If your the guy that loves them then spread some love in the comments below. I have a open heart but liftmaster has cheated on me to many times and I don't know if it ever can be fixed.
    I'm waiting liftmaster for my Mac daddy gate operator you have my address lol

    Thanks for the video. You should be able to install a jumper wire to bypass the sensor. I only install liftmaster on residential swing gate's. Slide gate's I usually use door king.

    I've been installing liftmaster for 10 years. Way before they were UL compliant. I probably do an average around 50 installations a year. I absolutely love liftmaster. Doorking, FAAC, HySecurity, Linear and Viking are all good options as well. But Liftmaster is my go-to. Holds up over the years like the others.... but is more budget friendly in most cases. With that being said.... I never had an issue with an edge out of the box like that. I stay away from the wireless edge kits now (unless there is an entrapment in the back when the gate opens).... and I put the edge on the gate opening post next to the photo eye. I install a single gang weatherproof mulberry box for my splices and run an 18/6 to the operator to take care of the photo eye and edge. Those wireless edge kits are only for entrapments in my eyes. They aren't nearly as efficient as hardwired and the batteries WILL eventually die and the customer seem to never want to change them themselves. Yeah I get a service call out of it... but we all know that I tiny service call that is over an hour away sucks. Also... the SL585 is now supposedly discontinued. Liftmaster is now all DC motors apparently. And those are far better than the 585 and 595 and their clunk and loud AC motors. Smooth running, quiet, and the designs for a CSL, INSL, CSW and every other model is much better. No more heavy covers. I believe the SL585 is designed the way it is because it was essentially the same design Stanley operators were before Liftmaster bought them. I'm not 100% sure but I believe that is why. The 585 design itself dates back like 30 years.

    I have a Liftmaster LA 400 and I just replaced the batteries for the third time since I’ve had it. this time I continue to have a problem with this gate opener and I was hoping you might be able to put your finger on what the problem is.
    Today, when I went out to open the gate, I heard three beeps, and the gate would not move. I hit the reset button and still nothing. It was only when I pulled out the 20 amp fuse and put it back in that the gate would operate. But even then, when I pressed it a second time, I heard the three beeps and it wouldn’t operate until I pulled the fuse again.
    I replaced the fuse but it still does it.
    I put a multimeter on the transformer and it goes up to 24 and then bounces around but 24 seems to be the full trickle charge.
    Any tips would be really appreciated

    You would think if you test the edge in both positions in the ohm setting of the multimeter. This will tell you the ohms of the resistor. Then make you a pigtail with the resistor(s) of the same value. You could use that for testing purposes. However that depends on if the gate uses the edge as a limit switch or if limits are programmed. If you can close/open the gate with the edge switch constantly tripped then this should work. And I wouldn't know why the edge would even be necessary. Surly it uses it as a limit switch telling gate to stop closing.

    99% of all operator problems are caused by poor installation. Most of this stuff is not DIY. Even the so called DIY equipment can be temperamental if you don't now what you are doing. I sell and install Liftmaster all the time, and never have any issues. I have been doing this work for over 20 years, and people call me when they are fed up with the "Big Companies" here in the Bay Area who can't get the job done. I would never sell the operator shown in the video. Liftmaster makes a lot of models. Designed to move different types of gates. Mose installers never open the installation manual. Don't go cheap on your installation. Get someone who knows what they are doing, and have the experience. Experience is the best teacher. Everybody likes to complain. Too many people won't spend what it takes to get a proper installation. Automatic gate systems are not difficult. but if you don't know what you are doing, you will find yourself in difficulty.

      BOOM! I have self installed Apollo and Liftmaster operators. I am in the market checking around for other operators before purchasing again (due diligence) . . I went DIY on my last 2 gate operators after dealing with crappy installs from self proclaimed "professionals" that have been doing it WRONG for over 10 years! Just cause you have "done it for 10 years" does not mean you actually know what you are doing . . Apollo and LIftmaster have issues - not sure there is a "perfect" product. BUT you are 1000% correct - shitty installers cause way more headaches than the product itself.

    • @rentaissanceman
      @rentaissanceman 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@0robsatx0 I would like to know what you perceive the issues are with Liftmaster and Apollo. I have installed both over the last 20+ years, and any difficulty I have had stems from my own ignorance. UL325 has changed the landscape a lot, and not necessarily for the better. At least not for installers that will not educate themselves about the product. There are so many options on the market, and most of them are excellent. Maximum Controls has some great equipment. They are the company that started Elite, which was probably the biggest selling operators in the country, perhaps the world for may years. They sold to Liftmaster and now have a new company, Maximum Controls. Good stuff. They know what they are doing. Installation is not hard, but you gotta know what you are doing.

    • @0robsatx0
      @0robsatx0 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rentaissanceman Overall been pretty happy with the Liftmaster as compared to the Apollo. But there are a few minor issues that become big issues over time - keep in mind I am a home / land / business owner. I am the end user that installs his own gate operators after being tired of dealing with half ass work from “employees”. I am in a pretty fortunate spot to have metal fabricator that works for me along with concrete guys that I use for other project so it is pretty easy for me to have all the labor work done, I just put in the operator. With all that said here are my issues (will bundle related issues into groups): 1. The edge kits are maintenance issue that needs to be addressed. The edge pad itself will slowly start to “slide” down the mounting track after a couple months of use. I ended up having to install and extra screw and spacer on the bottom of the edge pads (have one one each end of my entry gate). The edge wireless kits (receiving unit) are large and prone to issues. So we had to build a cage around them to avoid any issues. Had one broken off and of course the gate stops operating if it does not have at least 2 entrapment devices active. 2. The gate limiter (not sure of the proper term) never lands in the exact same spot. This is pretty much the case with most setups. I have seen this same setup issue with eagle gate openers. I really like the magnets used in the last apollo, because the gate would stop almost exactly each time. This poses a challenge when you have an edge kit to protect vehicles when the gate is closing. (sometimes we get very tall box trucks (special type of delivery) and the “photo sensor” does not “see” the vehicle so I installed an edge pad as a backup safety device. Problem really comes into play when the gate does not STOP in the proper location hits the fence stop and causes the gate to open. 3. The bottom of the unit is wide open. I installed my unit about 18 inches above the ground. Once every few months I have to open up the unit and clean up the spider webs and all the bugs that try to find refuge. 3. The homeowner keypads are simply a joke. This is 2022 and the keypads are still cludgy to setup . . **# repeat ** repeat . . come on . . not sure why they have not come up with a WIFI keypad that is app or even web based? I don’t want to go third party. If I am ever out of town I want to be able to call a “repair” guy and not have issues with 3rd party gate openers. Had a gate installer (owner) come out and inspect my work. I am not a professional installer - but was asked if I wanted a job. 😉 I spent quite a few hours, color coding, labeling and routing my wires so that anyone can follow the work I performed. It would be great if Liftmaster would provide pre-designed wiring channels and better connectors to make the installation super clean and easy to follow. I like how the MYQ app works with my gate operator and garage door(s) from a single app. BUT why has liftmaster not implemented better wifi keypads and access interfaces?

      Well I have a total opposite opinion. I have 2 CSL24v's. Installed in 2013 in Central Florida. This is a commercial property and really doesn't get that much traffic. I'm constantly having to work on these POS's! I have the EL25's for them and everytime we have a good storm I loose the speakers and microphone.Every time we have a major storm or any power surge (THIS IS FREAKING FLORIDA) I lose a main board! I have replace the motors twice in both of them. The screws rust you have to break them to get cases off! Why not use stainless fasteners as these are OUTSIDE UNITS!! It's hard to believe the fasteners rust and threads seize as many times as I have to open them up! With all the open unsealed space I'm constantly cleaning debris from squirrels, ants and mice. I freaking hate these operators!! We had Florida Door Control build two aluminum sliding gates and install these POS operators and paid close to 40k so we didn't go cheap1

    This industry is full of small tech parts that you need to have on your truck. The issue is you need to be able to have these parts for 10-12 systems plus accessories.
    You also need to know that different UL requirements are done with different technologies. Some require the relay state to change. Some require 10k resistors.
    Edge devices are a problem. Non of the manufactures have a decent product for edges.
    Liftmaster has 2 issues. Safeties are proprietary. The other is pricing.
    Liftmaster product here in Ga isn’t an issue.
    Learn ohms. It will help a lot.
    In short there are more unreliable systems that reliable. Each have quirks. Stick with two or three systems and find the accessories that work for you and you will be fine. You can fix everything because of the amount of dedicated parts & knowledge required.
