  • If your car air conditioner fuses keep blowing here are 12 possible reasons and repairs. This video is about how sometimes you can diagnose and repair a car air conditioner that is not working without using any complicated electronic diagnostic tools or experience.
Fuses Blowing Immediately Upon Turning On the Air Conditioning
    Check for Visible Wiring Issues:
Inspect the wiring around the air conditioning components for visible damage, such as frayed wires, exposed metal, or loose connections. Pay close attention to areas where wires pass through the firewall or around sharp edges.
    Inspect the Fuse Box:
Check the fuse box for any signs of corrosion, damage, or loose connections. Ensure the fuses are seated properly and that there are no melted or damaged fuse slots.
    Test the AC Relay:
Swap the air conditioning relay with another relay of the same type in the fuse box to see if the problem persists. If the fuse stops blowing, the relay might be faulty.
    Examine the Compressor Clutch:
With the engine off, visually inspect the compressor clutch for signs of damage or wear. A damaged or misaligned clutch might draw excessive current when engaged.
Fuses Blowing After Operating for a While
    Check the Cabin Air Filter:
Locate and inspect the cabin air filter. If it’s dirty or clogged, replace it. A clogged filter can cause the blower motor to overwork and draw more current.
    Clean the Condenser and Radiator:
Inspect the front of the car for debris blocking the condenser or radiator. Clean any leaves, dirt, or other obstructions that could impede airflow and cause the system to work harder.
    Monitor the Airflow:
Ensure all vents inside the car are open and unobstructed. Blocked vents can cause the blower motor to work harder, increasing the electrical load.
    Inspect the Blower Motor:
Listen for unusual noises from the blower motor when the air conditioning is running. Squealing or grinding noises might indicate a failing motor drawing too much current.
    Feel for Heat Buildup:
After the air conditioning has been running for a while, feel the wiring and components for excessive heat. Overheating wires or components can indicate increased resistance or overworking parts.
    General Tips for Both Scenarios
Replace the Fuse with the Correct Rating:
Always replace blown fuses with ones of the same amperage rating. Using a higher-rated fuse can cause damage to the system.
    Avoid Overloading the Electrical System:
Ensure that no additional high-current accessories are connected to the same circuit as the air conditioning system. Disconnect any aftermarket accessories to see if the problem persists.
    Check the Battery and Alternator:
Ensure the car’s battery terminals are clean and secure. A weak battery or faulty alternator can cause electrical issues. While you may need a multimeter to check these properly, you can still visually inspect the connections for corrosion or looseness.

Hi Robb! Good information to help someone out that doesn’t know how to start tracking down the problem and save them some money. A mechanic would charge a lot for doing these tasks.
    Have a blessed day!

You can just go buy a bag if ice and hold it in your lap while you drive if the AC goes out 😅

For years I have been going to make a hot weather suit with an ice chest and some water and a pump and a bunch of tubing and a white clean room suit

I used to do that. But I used it as a back rest. I got a little frost bite on a butt cheek.

    Good stuff Robb.
You could also move to Alaska and hope the heater holds out.
Did you see the story about the giant monitor lizard seen in Florida?

One more thing to be wary of in the Florida bushes. I bet they were captured as youths and mis identified then sold out of a pet shop. Ten foot pet and child eating lizards. It’s getting kinda “jurassic” down there.
On the bright side, I don’t think it’s the biggest . The Komodo Dragon. Looks like an asian water monitor.

Robb, is your stove and vent hood 70s harvest gold colored? That is so cool my man. I wish the appliance dealers would bring back those 70s colors including avocado green and poppy red.

Hey thanks for watching and commenting. Yes my apartment was built in the 1970s and there has been very little modernization I still have popcorn ceilings and I think my refrigerator it's from the same time. The markings on the dial on my stove have all faded and the clock stopped working I also still have jealousies in the front door which is very mid 20th century South Florida. I'll tell you something funny the kitchen has drop lighting with acrylic panels over the lighting and they were yellow and I could never find yellow tinted acrylic lighting panels anywhere until one day I realized they weren't yellow they were just old and faded sorry replaced most of them except for a few in the bathroom that I used as an accent around the perimeter I also have a screened in porch unlike most of the other apartments I've converted them to interior space by putting in solid walls and windows on the balcony.

@@RobbsHomemadeLife Excellent. Glad you're keeping the retro going. I like watching those videos of old abandoned homes, including the 70s that are on YT.

I watched a video that showed the renovation of a travel trailer from the 1950s the other day and it was absolutely amazing of course they updated some of it but the interior Birchwood and lighting was astonishing considering how old it was
