Painful Accident Leads To Potentially Life Changing Injury | Inside The Ambulance | Real Responders

  • Paramedics are quick to respond to a call of a man suffering burns after a firework accidentally got caught in his hood. The paramedics worry for the patient as he suffers from serious burns and a potential serious injury to his eye. Elsewhere, paramedics attend to an elderly couple and quickly realise the patient is suffering from heart attack.
    For the very first time, an ambulance has been rigged with cameras that provide a unique perspective on what it's like to respond to emergency calls. 'Inside The Ambulance' follows paramedics from the West Midlands Ambulance Service in England as they take us right into the heart of the action. We see heroism at work in the actions of these first responders. We also enter the lives of people in crisis and learn their unique stories.

    It’s sad bc the logical part of you wants help but as you get more depressed and suicidal that part gets buried. So you have a moment of clarity as your survival instincts kick in to get help but that can very easily be buried again.

    As someone who is suicidal a lot, I feel like they would have had more luck staying with her while she packed up. She could easily have taken more meds while they were waiting for her. People who are suicidal can also be resourceful and sneaky. She needs to get out of her dad’s house. It’s obviously a precarious position. I hope social services can help.

Maybe the assessment took a tad longer than it could've, but getting a good history is important before transporting. That way they could appropriately treat the man with the right drugs etc.

    I've been hearing for awhile now that UK ambulance waits can be for 6 to 12 hours regardless of the emergency due to the amount of calls they receive every day. 3000 calls for service everyday is an incredible load on the service. One man called 6 times due to this mom not being able to breathe and because the 999 operator could hear her moaning in the background he was told he'd have to wait. His calls were becoming more frantic over the next 6 hours as they were told an ambulance would come as soon as one was available. His 7th call was to tell them his mother was no longer breathing at all. They again told him an ambulance was on it's why. They finally showed up 8 hours after his first call. The son was crying and yelling as he performed CPR on his mother trying to keep her alive until the ambulance showed up finally an hour after she stopped breathing. She was pronounced dead in the ambulance. She had been having heart attack after heart attack for over 9 hours. There was an inquiry by the NHS service and surprise their report said "The delay in the ambulance and crew did NOT contribute to the patient's death." The way that mother and son were treated inflicted so much more trauma and pain then her death alone would have caused. They tried to sue the Ambo service but because the company and NHS investigated themselves and found they did nothing wrong, it was dropped. The 999 calls were absolutely heartbreaking and infuriating at the same time. Her son was in complete shock, upset and angry all at the same time.

    • @bethanywashington1243
      @bethanywashington1243 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      That’s absolutely terrible. In the US our waits are like 3 min unless you live somewhere very remote they can fly out in about 20 min. That’s insane the wait is so long in the UK and there is more crime and bodily injury from guns here than in the UK. Trade off you will be hit with a million dollar bill here but at least you make to the hospital. It’s strange they get so many calls a day in such a small place. Makes no sense.

    • @Bettinasisrg

      @@KhanaHatake Whether or not 3,000 calls is “a lot” for the ambulance service depends *far more* on the amount of resources the ambulance service has rather than the population amount.

    • @roguewolf7053
      @roguewolf7053 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@Bettinasisrg Often people don’t think of such things in the midst of an emergency…especially if told an ambulance is “on the way”. Also the son may not have been able to physically get his mother up & into a vehicle. Plus many taxi services will refuse to take people having a medical emergency & many people in the UK don’t have personal vehicles. But if others find themselves in such a position I would hope neighbors would help one another to get the person to the hospital when needed if ambulance service is backed up. No matter what…9hrs to respond to a patient with heart attack symptoms is utterly insane & negligence! As there is simply *NO WAY* there were enough other more serious calls to keep them too busy! As a potential heart attack is nearly as serious as it gets!

      If his oxygen sats aren’t below 94 then oxygen isn’t indicated and if he’s having an mi and you give oxygen (a vasoconstrictor ) that doesn’t make anyone’s life better

    Those trucks are very different from the ones you typically see in the u.s. The trucks in the uk are very organized and very well laid out. Id say they're better than the u.s. trucks by quite a bit.

      The u.s. trucks? What an asinine thing to say, every company has different trucks with different layouts. This isnt an island like your puny country from whence we sprang. The u.s. is huge and varied. You might as well say that all uk trucks are the same as every other in eurasia.

      Just the substandard "social" healthcare system, oh wait they're better??!! Ok bad joke but yes the NHS is AMAZING and helping keep people healthy and not put into crippling life long debt like America.

      @@Bettinasisrg I didn't say they were better just that they're not all the same. And my healthcare is covered by medicaid (state govt health-care) and medicare (nat'l govt health-care).
