    Been tossing around between what my next truck will be. Do I stick with a half ton, or do I need to move up to 3/4 ton to tow my RV trailer? Presently waiting to see what the next gen Tundra "might" be. Will it be designed strictly as "eye candy", only to tow small landscaper, small RV's, boats, or does it push into the 3/4 ton range. Buddies similar sized RV he gets 8 mpg with the F-250 with the 6.2 gas. I presently get 9.5 mpg with my half ton Tundra (5.7). Yes, I would like "more" truck to ton my 7800 lb. (wet) RV. This past weekend ran into someone with the 2500 / 6.4 Ram towing my same RV, who said he gets 11 mpg towing. hard to believe. Non-towing I get 15 city, and 19-20 hyw. So with the larger hemi 6.4 I know I will not see those numbers.

    When I was in the market, the 6.4/4:10 was high on my list. But the MPG killed the deal and needed up with the Cummins. That new transmission should help that 6.4 though. But nothin beats the exhaust brake coming down the mountains with a camper pushing you. Good video of good really useful info.

    Nice discussion of buying a low cost Ram 2500 shortbed. I think you have a nice, easy way of explaining the details which many salespeople should emulate. Keep it up! I'm looking at the other end of the price and size scale. I have an 08 Dodge Ram 2500 Quadcab Laramie with the Cummins 6.7 L engine. It has worked well but the emission control stuff has been a PITA to keep it running. Since I no longer drive 25,000 miles a year I really don't want another diesel.

    • @JB_WhoWork
      @JB_WhoWork  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Appreciate the kind words! I’m with you on not returning to a diesel due to the emissions. I was hoping they would relax this moving forward at least on HD trucks but that’s wishful thinking. If you don’t plan on towing/driving much, a 3.73 axle 6.4L HEMI would be a great truck. Hopefully you can remove the emissions on existing truck now that you’re out of warranty

    Thanks for the great reviews! I just purchased a travel trailer that’s bigger than I originally planned on. Now I’m thinking about getting a heavy duty truck. I’m leaning toward a RAM diesel but given the reduced payload inherent with that motor I’m stuck between a 2500 and 3500. Is there a big difference in ride quality when not towing?

    • @JB_WhoWork
      @JB_WhoWork  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Congrats on the purchase! If you’re towing, a 1 ton ride improves when towing heavier loads. If you plan on stepping up to a fifth wheel in the future, I would definitely go diesel 3500.

    Great video jb. The big horn is nice for a mix of work and personal. It’s nice, but not to nice to use. The mpg isn’t that bad with this new 8 speed either. Around 3k miles it starts to open up a little more and your gain about 1.5mpg 👍

    • @JB_WhoWork

      Thanks Mike! The Tradesman and BH are very similar but what sets them apart are the available pkgs. I think the Power Wagon trim is perfect if you don’t plan on towing and it can be added on the price leading truck! That is reassuring on mpg because 16 mpg is 💪🏾 and if you can increase that to almost 18, even better! Thanks for supporting the channel!

    JB I love your videos. I have had several campers and ram trucks. I have the 2016 2500 Big Horn 6.4 Liter 3.7 rear. I love this truck. Lately though have been thinking about going with the diesel for better fuel economy, especially for camper towing. 10.9K trailer with 1065 hitch weight. I get 7.t5 towing this monster and daily driving about 12.5 winter, 13.5 summer. (the truck computer is always off) 1) what kind of daily fuel economy can i expect with the diesel and is the HO diesel the way to go?

    • @JB_WhoWork
      @JB_WhoWork  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Clifford! If you go diesel your empty fuel mileage will be 15-16 50/50 driving but all HWY at 70 MPH, you can get 20 MPG+. Towing you can get 9-13 MPG BUT If you’re not towing a ton, go standard Cummins as the 68RFE is better for unloaded towing and it’s quicker.

      being out for a long time doesnt mean its bullet proof, if you can get the HEMI you can wait a little longer and save for the cummins, the MPG on hemi's is garbage around 11-14 depending on wheels and drive style but cummins pump 16-20 and a lot more towing capacity and it will last twice as long on the miles

    • @JT-ko3rv
      @JT-ko3rv 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sometimes stuff fails no matter what it is. The owners maintenance diligence and driving habits and use really do play a significant role in durability of all engines. It's not out of the ordinary to see a hemi with a few hundred thousand on the odometer chrysler has sold alot of them since introduced in 03 have been available in pretty much every rear wheel drive vehicle offered by chrysler so there will be a few that haven't survived but as a percentage of the whole its pretty small. Diesels have issues too especially thanks to the EPA and emissions standards their durability is a fraction of what they once were complete opposite of gas engines actually most modern day gas engines will last along time and don't have the emissions problems and huge repair costs of diesels now that being said neither is the wrong choice if your honest about what you actually need.

    For not that much more money and being pretty comparably equipped I’d prefer the styling and creature comforts of the Bighorn. Crazy how much the Cummins kills your payload numbers!

      The 3500 Standard diesel with 68RFE has higher payload than the 6.4 Hemi. On the SWB SRW 4x4 anyways. The high output Cummins/Aisin combo has lower payload than the Hemi though.

      Wtf was that for! It’s the truth, look it up! 6.4 Hemi - 4,270 Payload
      Standard Cummins/68RFE 4,340
      for a 3500 SWB, SRW Crewcab 4x4
      It’s because the diesel has heavier springs in the front.

    Haven't viewed the video just yet, but I'm for tradesman since they have less fluff, which means less things to break, and a cheaper overall price. Only problem I'm having is dealers are overcharging for their limit inventory... and selling trucks before they even receive them. Too many whales buying trucks right now. Plus the new arrivals are listed as 2022 trucks. And I bet they are really parked 2021s restickered as 2022s... which in turn dealers are listing them with zero discount and full MSRP....
    Not a fan of clearance lamps, myself, in the past they were rust magnets, don't know about today's cabs.
    ....and don't refer to me as guys... you sound like a tool.
    4.10? Umm no. No top end and crap fuel mileage.. I wish these came with 3.20s.. cause the other gears are too high as well, in my opinion.
    Wtf do you need a 210 alt for? Voltage regulator is in the computer module... Guess what will have to be replaced if it fails... and guess what the unused extra voltage is going to tax...
    Btw... 4x4 auto mode is a pass for me which is why 1500 4x4 isn't worth it... better off just getting a 2x4 in a 1500 with thst clutch version transfer case....
    No I don't want a power wagon trim... why? 4.10 gears... like I said before even those 3.70s are too high for what I want this 2500 for (which would be the transfer case... and no electronic shifter either ) But no other options than those two...gear sets, which suxs.

      @@JB_WhoWork why would they discontinue diesel trucks? I mean there isn't anything practical out there even close to replacing their capability as far as I'm aware. I know democrats do some crazy environmental stuff. But dear God I can't see that happening at least not anytime soon

      @Jack Dysart we are probably 10-15 years from seeing diesels go away but the gas engine has been making more sense for weekend warriors especially with diesels costing so much upfront and maintenance wise
