    after three years of having my power wagon, i finally got the balls to ship my PCM to HP Tuners and have it unlocked. all i did was shut off MDS permanently and OH MY GOD it's so much better. yeah you can just hit the gear buttons, but this is permanent and my MPG has gone up without the truck going in/out of MDS all the time.

    Some of the interior Isn’t much different than my ‘12 Ram. I like the CC long bed over the short bed. JB as you know a heavy duty truck is made to haul heavy loads. Our oldest son has a 2002 F-350 CC 4X4 dually with the 7.3L Power Stroke. He had to put heavier duty leaf springs on the front end because the original ones snapped on both sides while going down the highway, gave him a wild scary ride. It rides rougher than before, it’s made for work, not going to the high school prom🙂🙂 JB👍👍keep’m coming

      I had a 2000 Silverado ,3500 with the 454 and 4:10 gears and was getting 14 mpg , traded it for a 2014 3500 with the Duramax and 3:73 gears and got 15 mpg , and every time you would turn around the DEF system was acting up . After two years it was traded for a 6.0 gasser ,at about 15 mpg with 4:10s. With the 10K they charge for the diesel engine option plus the higher service costs and emissions issues I could never recommend going diesel .

    I have a 2020 Ram 3500 w/ the Cummins that I bought brand new. Straight out of the dealership, it rode so stiff that small bumps about crushed my spine, and I'm only in my early 30's. I let some pressure out of the front tires (80 down to 60) and out of the back tires (80 down to 45) and it helped some. 10k miles later the ride was much much better as the suspension broke in. At 40k miles I enjoy it. The Hemi 3500 will likely have a suspension break in period too.

  • @herb7877
    @herb7877 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Not sure on a Ram but on a Ford, the cost difference in base price of a F250 vs F350 is only $1700. I ordered the F350. At the price of these trucks now a days; $1700 isn't much and you gain a lot more payload capacity. I also went gas with the 7.3l. The Ram was a serious contender but in the end I wrote the check to Ford to try the Godzilla. I've owned both in the last few years; both are good trucks. My gas and a friends Duramax pull simular trailers on a 4k mile trip and a separate 200 mile. He gets about 1.5 mpg's better.He does better empty on the frwy. I so rarely run empty on the Hwy . We both pulled the same hills without a problem. I saved ~$9k in cost difference. The cost of diesel fuel eats up the difference. If I were doing long freeway drives and pulling over about 13 -14k pounds; I might rethink it & go diesel?

  • @matthewanderson9912
    @matthewanderson9912 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Nice video and review. My comment will basically be you continue to make my case against having those gear ratio’s that start with a 4 in these modern transmissions 😂😂.
    Cruising at over 2,000 rpm on the Interstate empty is terrible. I also remember you testing two rams and the 3.73 was actually slightly quicker. I understand that some brands force you to the shorter ratio for max towing but unless you are at max or like I mentioned before a lot of slow speed off road type towing you don’t need the 4 something rear end. And I go as far to say you not only don’t need it but it’s a detriment to you.

    • @JB_WhoWork
      @JB_WhoWork  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Lol! I guess ever application is different but if someone is going to buy these gas trucks, it only makes sense to have lower gearing. Typically first gear has a super deep gear but when you’re climbing grades, the trans typically will only go down to 4th with 8 speeds. Can’t think of what the 10 speed Fords will go down to 🤔. This may be a good video to test with either a GM or Ford 10 speeder

    • @matthewanderson9912
      @matthewanderson9912 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JB_WhoWork well I have experience with a GM 8 speed in a 1500 pulling some
      very tough grades. 8% for nearly 3 miles at the KY/VA border. The 8 speed would shift to 3rd but unless I got a little bit of a running go it would not maintain 55 mph. It would as long as I got a decent run at it but I couldn’t wait to start losing speed and then go. That was a 3.23 gear now and the only other option was a 3.42. I’m not sure it would have made much difference because if a 3.23 won’t shift to 2nd than a shorter 3.42 definitely wouldn’t have.
      A 6 speed in a 1500 would go all the way to 2nd on that same grade and would give me up-to 65 mph even after I started loosing speed. But it would go to 2nd and give me plenty of rpm. That was a 3.42 and a 3.73 was optional. Again not sure it would have made much difference because it already went to 2nd. 3.73 probably would have too and might would have got a couple more mph but not sure. A 4.10 might have made 2nd gear not possible but I don’t know.
      As for my Duramax I had with a 10 speed I’m not sure what gear it was going to but it definitely downshifted a few times on that grade. No trouble with keeping the speed limit obviously but it would downshift I would say to 5th gear, maybe 6th but I’m just not sure. It would be pushing 2700-2800 rpm on that grade to do 60ish mph. It’s a tough one though.

    Diesel all the way . 1500 rpms nice cruising speed. Almost 17mpg in the city
    Easy 20+ cruising 70 mph on the highway .
    You can't beat a 6.7 Cummins for everything. Resale you get the 9-10k back. I just went to the RAM dealership looking at a 2022 limited . Two customer 2500 limited just came into the dealership so I had something to look at . I ordered a 2022 ram 2500 limited mega cab @87k .
    They bought my 2018 loaded tradesman 6.7 Cummins outright . 40k miles and mint condition for 45k . Sticker in 2018 was 56k
    and $10k off sticker if you financed through Chrysler . They sold my 2018 in two days ! Nothing more in demand right now is a very well treated diesel RAM 2500. Stick with the diesel you can't go wrong . Fuel prices will go down drastically as soon as Biden gets removed so the fuel
    price issue will not be an issue .

      What gasser do you have? We went from a PW to a 3500 Mega Cab HEMI. Payload was what we needed. Seriously thinking if we should’ve gone with the diesel. Main reason, options for increased fuel (larger tank options and auxiliary tank options for diesels versus gasoline.

    • @myront.miller6868
      @myront.miller6868 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@davidmuniz9995 absolutely. Payload is most important. When folks talk mpg or at least what it seems, it’s more of a how many miles can I get down the road on a single tank of fuel. That’s really how I look at it. With the PW we got around 250 miles before we had to stop at another gas station. Going 1100 miles, that’s a ton of required stops.
      If they had an option similar to diesel with regards to tank options and legalized the auxiliary fill options like diesel, I’d say gasoline all the way!!! Before the folks come, I know the reason is because gasoline is more flammable and goes boom more some than diesel.
      With all that being said, we just got our special order 3500 in January. We will se how this years travels west treats us and decide whether or not to change to diesel. If we do, we will opt for both a larger tank for the stock area as well as a truck bed gravity fed tank as well.

      @@michaellarrick8881 understand that I am getting 50% better fuel mileage towing with my diesel and diesel is only 25-30% more than gas on price. That 10k difference in price is always at minimum made up in resale or more

      It’s not made back up in resale though. It’s 10k higher upfront and it still depreciates. Like if you traded the same two trucks but one diesel and one gas, it wouldn’t be a 10k different on price

      @HalfShell bingo. You’d have to own that diesel truck for 15-20 years to actually get your moneys worth.
