Mostly genetics. Some are born with more fast twitch muscle fibers. It’s impossible to add more with training. You can only improve the ones you already have.

You can turn slow twitch into fast twitch (a sizeable percentage of them anyway). A study was conducted that found that the only difference between fiber types is the signal the CNS gives them. Also, beyond that, fibers aren't even the most important thing, your nervous system being able to call enough fibers is. Anyone and everyone can train their CNS to call more fibers and use more strength that they already have by putting max effort into jumps and reps. And even beyond that, even if you have terrible fast twitch genetics, you can also increase your max strength and be a "strength jumper". Muscle fibers only really determine which jump archetype you are. Now that's not to say genetics don't matter at the 50" level but I guarantee you most if not all people can get to 40" or more. It CAN be trained

I'm 5'2". First dunked when I was 19. Last dunked at 135lbs. No cell phones when I was younger, but many short people with mad hops... my knees tell the story nowadays. Keep jumping out of the gym bruh. Keep betting people you can snatch a $100 bill off the rim... every short person knows how to get paid by non-believers. Love it young blood.
I have seen 5'5 being able to dunk, but 5'4 bringing head to the rim is first time for me. Imagine him being 6'0 and above. He would be able to bring his head on top of backboard LOL.
Jamal Harris has a 53 inch vert, so yeah its possible to be more than 50 although 50 seems like the ceiling for even elite jumpers. Kinda like how 10 seconds seems like the maximum speed for 100m run although its possible to get slightly faster like Usain bolt etc, but you never have someone run a 9 sec 100m.
Jamal Harris tested 52" I believe, and used the NBA combine method which uses a shorter reach. Using that method boosts your tested vert by ~3 inches usually. At most, he's probably at 50 too

50+ inch hops, with a run up, are and have been doable. Math was a little off in this video. At 64 inches (5' 4") when the top of his head touches 114 inches (9' 6") the vertical is 50 inches. If this rim is 120 inches (10'), this fella was at or above 50 inches with each attempt. No attempt looked greater than 6 inches below the rim. Impressive!
I'm a girl, I'm 5'4, and about 7" away from the rim. I increased just by stretches, haven't did exercises yet... It seems I get my vertical up fast. But this guy is impressive! I noticed most guys that are 5'4 and dunk aren't super skinny.
