    Cool vid. After doing over 1000 dvd type discs, I found the most efficient way is 20 seconds rough sand, 1 minute white compound (I use Meguiar's) then use a microfibre cloth and it gets the job done the vast majority of the time. With everything about 2 minutes per disc or 30 discs per hour.

    • @pdusainc
      @pdusainc 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      20 seconds of Soft or Coarse sand paper? and using Megiars does this technique leave the discs mint mirror finish? or very faint swirls? I've been thinking of buying the ECO PRO 2

    • @davidfernandes8094
      @davidfernandes8094 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@pdusainc 20 seconds coarse only. Fine sand is a waste and actually added swirls for me. The meguiar will
      Finish it to like new condition. I guess the polish would make it pop a little more but I aim to sell used very good and the coarse sand 20 seconds with 1 minute buff is the Goldilocks zone for me

    Nic for expensive or rare games I recommend to cut out a small disc with a hole out of foam or thin cloth that just fits behind the plastic nut, this stops the machine making that ring mark on the disc center, I use foam the kind they sell in rolls for packing approx 2mm thick, noticed the same mark on a lot of CEX discs!

    Been using my JFJ a few years now and its paid for itself 1000 times over! One tip I would give is I always use a disc cleaning fluid after every repair just to clean off any chemicals on the disc! This is something I learnt the hard way as discs I sold looked mint and working but a few were returned unplayable! after a quick clean with cleaning fluid and cloth they played perfect! The early fails have lead to great sales! Love my JFJ

    Hey Nic and Andrea. I wouldn't recommend JFJ machine for your business. This machine is designed for personal collectors who wants to clean their disc every now and then. I'm a high volume seller in New Zealand. Sold over 15,000 video games online within New Zealand in the past two years. I have 3 machines. The machine I use is called Eco Pro 2. I've checked the Europe site for Eco Pro 2 and they are charging €1,250 for one machine. I don't know why it's so expensive for the UK? In New Zealand I can buy one for €700. The machine is designed for us online sellers. High volume sellers. Machine is extremely quiet, has one set of pads that does everything. The compound and water is built-in the machine so you don't have to manually add anything for each disc you're doing. The machine self-dries the disc. You may have a little residue on the side, but a quick wipe with a micro-fiber cloth takes care of that. And all you have to do is place the disc in the machine, no turning knob thing to secure the disc. The machine will automatically eject once the cycle is done. I don't make TH-cam videos, but i did one for my listing showing how the machine works: th-cam.com/video/j_xuhMDmoFQ/w-d-xo.html The link to Eco Pro Site: www.ecopro2.co.nz/

    I have one of these but used to find it left lots of smaller circular light surface "scratches" which didn't affect playback but from a reselling point of view wasn't great (similar to what you had with the sandpaper disc). Not sure what I was doing wrong? The solutions have solidified now so may buy some new ones and give it a try again as it is a useful tool (despite the initial cost)

    I agree with one guy below. Sand paper on disc gives me chills, too. Does the disc lose it's original luster shine? Looks like the shine is a little duller. Have you done DVD's yet and what's the results of it? I'm experimenting right now without the machine. I was always told the disc are kind of delicate. Most of your scratches coming from removing the discs from the cases. I'm going to try that Klean Logic Scratch Away and see if it works. I think it works for light scratches.

    Can you answer this, I seen a review on Amazon that says that sometimes if you were to file it down more than usual, the disc would get really thin and the foil will begin to wrinkle when you put it in whatever system you use because of the heat from the system. So I want to ask, have you tried using a disc for longer than an hour after resurfacing, basically after your system begins to heat up a bit, and did the disc stop working, or did you have no problems?

      It's the bottles of polish/compound they give you, it sucks. Get Meguiar's(yes car care products lol) ultimate compound(replaces the white bottle) and ultimate polish (replaces blue bottle) no more swirls, most of the time I dont even use the sanding pads now.

    I got my JFJ today and was able to fix two games. I'm making digital backups of all my ps1 games by ripping them. And I came across a lot of discs in bad condition but only a few are not readable. I fixed 2 games that I was not able to back up at first. I then tried to fix copy of Tony Hawk 2, the game did also not back up but the opening fmv would play. I have resurfaced the game and the disc is shining if you look close there are swivel marks but the other games that were working again had them too. But still I am unable to rip Tony Hawk 2 and worse the opening fmv is now skipping and freezes. Also there seem to be tiny sparkling specs in the disc. So I don't know what the hell I am doing wrong.

  • @garyr7027
    @garyr7027 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Do you really need to add buffing compound to it everytime? Looks like the pad is saturated with it enough for multiple uses... just spray the disc down with water then buff again.

    Hi nic. I know this is an old vid and you may not see the message. I've just bought a jfj and gone though a pile of scratched discs I had been saving up. How often do you need to replace the polishing foam discs? I've done about 30 games and they have worn down quite a bit already. Just wondering if that's normal or if I'm being too tight on the solution ?

    Just to let you know you are doing it wrong you are supposed to only use the blue solution on the blue pad and the white solution on the white pad when you get the machine there are two new white pads included one for the blue and one for the white but once you apply the solution to both pads it's permanent for assistance if you apply the blue solution to one of the pads it will stain blue and you have to use the blue solution for that pad as same as the white solution

    impressive! so i take it these discs do NOT work before hand, and they DO work after treating them? (as opposed to the scratched disc does work beforehand, but ur just treating it so it looks more appealing).
    also, with the Peppa Pig one, you tested it and it came on OK, but isn't there a chance that someone playing the game will get to a certain point LATER in the game and have an issue because of that little scratch that remained?

    • @NicHills
      @NicHills  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Some discs I repair are not working at all - others do work but I want to make them more saleable. Yes there is always the potential that a game may have a fault later on in the game... not much you can do about that, no way to play every game the whole way through!

      @BENVAFabri 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NicHills you don't need to play them all the way through you can rip them to a computer and if the software doesn't throw you an error there shouldn't be any problem. Works for ps1, ps2. For the Wii I hear you can do it with a modded system. Same for the xbox(360).

    My personal experience with JFJ is that the machine sucks. I have had 8 dvds that had a couple small hiccups while playing from a light scratch or two. So I bought the machine and a kit for it. I used a new buffing pad with the white compound. When done spray with anti static spray and wipe down with cloth provided and 8 out of 8 times the dvd player says "cannot play disc" and I have to buy the season for the bad disc. Not one time have I ever gotten it to successfully repair a disc, and all have bright and shiny finishes when cleaned. for all the money I spent on it, I could have just bought two of each DVD tv series and when a disc got scratched pitch it and use one from the backup series purchased. waste of time and money for me.
