I haven't got one of these machines but I used to turn pens from acrylic and polyester resins. Water is definitely needed and after the initial sanding you need to clean the very fine grit that is left on the disc before moving onto polishing. If not, your polishing the grit from the sanding back onto the disc. It might be very very small particles of polycarbonate from big scratches but they really do need cleaning from the disc before polishing.
Was gonna comment that! A friend and I got this one, highly recommend cleaning the discs between each pad, for instance if youre on a Coarse 600 grit pad, clean the disc before using the Soft 2000 grit pad, then the white buffing pad, and yellow polishing pad. Basically clean in between each pad so you don't get coarser residue on milder pads, that way you avoid potential burrs getting worked into the discs.

I just got my JFJ Easy Pro. I've only tried it on one PS2 disc so far that was in pretty bad shape. However, it still played oddly enough, but I just wanted to see if I could get the scratches out of it. I'm doing exactly what you're doing here, minus the sanding step. I noticed after the first run through, even though most of the significant scratches were gone, the disc then had tons of really faint swirl marks on it. So, I tried to playing it again, and it started up, but was skipping on the start screen which it didn't do before I ran it through the machine. So, I tried buffing and polishing it one more time, and tried playing it again, and it was even worse that before. I don't understand what I'm doing wrong. Any ideas how to avoid the swirl marks?
